Soil to Soul Restaurant: Augarten

In 2019, the two sisters, Anica and Nicole Schmid, took over the carefully renovated Gasthaus Restaurant Augarten. In addition to the restaurant, it also has a "Braugarten" brewery for their "Huusbier" and three hotel rooms. The Augarten is located right next to the entrance to Rheinau Abbey. Rheinau locals and gourmets meet in the restaurant and the magnificent garden with its gravelled square and chestnut tree, but the many day-trippers in the region also come here. They come on foot along the Rhine from Schaffhausen - which is highly recommended - or drive straight up: Everyone is welcome at Augarten.
For Anica and Nicole, their philosophy of regional and seasonal cuisine is not just a trend that promises success at the moment. They run and develop their kitchen the way they lived and learned it at home on the farm in Appenzell.
In close collaboration with Zurich food blogger Sarah Blattner @zueriplausch, Soil to Soul presents national restaurants that have excelled in terms of soil-conscious production and preparation.
