    It’s a testament to great coaching when the students pull off submissions. I’d imagine 100s of instructors would not admit to getting submitted by one of their students in private let alone put it on the internet.

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  Рік тому +29

      Exactly man. It's a proud moment when a student submits you or gets close to it - it means that you've taught them well and that they're improving well. Not much more you can ask for 🙂

      In truth, if I were an instructor, I would consider it a honour to be submitted by a student. It would indicate (to me at least) that I taught him well

    It was a great time, if we ever do it again, in GI maybe, Id be down for that :) Thanks to Jordan and Nord VPN for the cash and was well spent on a good meal afterwards with a great group of friends. One thing not mentioned was that we (the students) got water and 2 rounds of breaks in-between rolls, they got zero water and less than 5 seconds between rounds. Like Darren said, after a while it takes its toll.

      I don't know if you'll see this but a possible idea that could go along these lines is having the three coaches fight 3 white/blue belts each at the same time. If you submit one, they have to go out for 1-2 minutes. If they submit you it's game over and they get to pile onto a different coach along with the other ones who are already fighting. Then create a scoring system based on how long the coach team manages to last. Might make for an interesting video concept that I don't think has been done before.
      Loved this vid btw, great stuff

    I trained bjj for few months, got injured and was out for a 6 months. After that, had 3 kids, moved, career, etc.. I just got back into it and was almost upset that im already 35.. Seeing this older dude kick butt like that at his age, I am completely back on track in my mind. At the current time I feel stronger and better than ever. Clearly we dont have to retire at 40. Thank you for this video!

  • @AnaranjadoGuitar
    @AnaranjadoGuitar 2 роки тому +21

    This was very fun to watch. The idea that your students were paid for each submission was a clever one. I hope to see more like this in the future i.e. a GI sharktank. Orrr a mini tourney/king of the mats with bjj youtubers. You could do handicap matches like one person in gi, the other in no gi.

    Looks like everyone but poor Joey had fun 😅
    He got set up to have his lack of size exploited by the students, and then you can tell that being the only coach to be tapped was demoralizing him in addition to the insane energy expenditure, especially when you're a smaller guy where you're fighting off much more weight relative to your size, which makes these shark tanks especially brutal for the smaller people.
    He still got plenty of vengeance though, so I hope he didn't take it too hard!

    • @bolieve603
      @bolieve603 2 роки тому +11

      Yeah when you're big you can put weight down without expending very much energy, especially when you get good at it. Keeping the weight off you is not as easy

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  2 роки тому +70

      We knew going into it that Joey was the most likely to be submitted, only because of his size relative to some of the students. He's a highly skilled black belt and actually the first black belt I've given out. He's got a great attitude and it didn't bother him 🙂

      try this:
      Pick a class time that suits you.
      Go to the head coach outside of that class time and ask who is a usual at that class time that is the most friendly, that could pair up with you for the first few classes.
      See if you can meet said person BEFORE the actual class. If youre okay with this, have the coach explain to the person that youre anxious.
      Ask said person some questions about anything, even non-jj related, just trying to warm up yourself to the one person.

    It seems like some coaches don't role with upper belts as much and don't compete. I can understand that you wouldn't want new students to think that a black belt isn't a big deal just because they lost some rounds. This is cool because its a bunch of rounds combined so you can see that skill and training gives you better and better chances to win (even if almost all black vs white belt matches are near 0% chance for white belts)
