I bought a Sharpmaker from some guy and his wife at a small county fair on N California around 1980 ish. Said his name was Sal. Still got the stones. TRUE STORY.

It would be really helpful to have an update video on this sharpening system. Mostly to know if you still like it, or if it let you down over time.

Magnets work because in each magnet theres a tiny little gremlin that holds the rod in place. Don't forget to thank your gremlin after each sharpening.

Great video man. Just a tip at the end of each stone you should alternate every pass. It will knock the bur off and clean the edge up. You probably already knew that though. Love the channel.

Great video thanks. I think if you leave the covers on the May work as a hand guard. Holding the top can help stabilize it and keeps your hand out of the way. It is fast with diamond stone but the ruff grit is maybe only for if the blade is very dull or damaged. Like the diamond for my CPM 3v steel

IMO the covers on this as a hand guard are a joke. Flimsy with no control. On the other hand the shapmaker cover is excellent as a hand hold not to mention the hand guard rods. On the other hand the Work Sharp stones are far superior. They could be better secured than what the magnets provide

One thing I learned from my sharpmaker is I was pulling the knife away too soon on the down stroke so the back end of the blade wasn't getting as sharp. Now, I concentrate on moving the knife down before pulling and my blades are more consistent along the edge.

The Cedric & Ada review of this made an excellent point. This system is great, however the flat stones mean it isn't great for recurve blades. If you have blades with pronounced recurve the triangular stones of the Sharpmaker would be a better choice, and its a little better with serrated blades than this system (which only offers a small ceramic stone for serrations).
If you don't have any recurve blades, however, he recommended this one, both for its lower price and because it can sharpen at more angles (15/17.5/20/22.5/25).

I have been looking at this, I have a lot of sharpening options, but each blade is different. I usually don’t like a factory edge (even Spyderco) I tend to reprofile right away. Cool vid.

Funny thing is, I find that I can get a blade pretty sharp on the WS sharpener but, I'll finish off with the Sharp maker to give my blade, a hair "popping" finish which I can't do on the Worksharp... Starting a dull blade on the Work sharp for me works better, then, finishing it on the sharp maker gets it the edge, just how I like it! Hmmm...

Mr. Dicey. At the first of your video you state it has three angles. The 15, 20, and 25. It also has angles of 17.5 and 22.5. So it can cover all needed angles from 15 to 25. I have the KME system, and the Sharpmaker. I like this better than the Sharpmaker do to having more angles and three stones instead of the two that come with the Sharpmaker. This 5 angle system is the main selling point. No you cannot get a mirror edge, but as a regular system goes it does very well. I have had mine for about a month. It will replace my Sharpmaker, but obviously not my KME.

Not familiar with the Angle Set types of sharpeners. I use a Lansky system. It feels less clumbsy in my hand. Moving the stones vs moving the knife; those seem to be the top choices. What I will say there is a certain meditative quality to simple, repetitive motion. When I can pair my breath with gliding the stones - usually in a 4:1 ration - I find myself in a relaxing, almost euphoric trance while sharpening a knife. And the weird thing is, the more I love the knife, the more relaxing the meditative state is.

Didn’t get a notification for this Brian so sorry so late. The diamonds sound pretty agressive which means they should work well. The base seems a little wobbly/ unstable so do you think it better to hold it. Honestly it looks like you/ whoever probably should. Looks good though but what do you think! Do you recommend it. Probably a little premature to ask beings that you just got it. I use wet stones to sharpen but thought about using some other alternatives that might be a little quicker but will give good results. Thanks for the review. Till next time.

At the cost of a lot of my knives...I have to go with a guided system out of respect for the craft. I bought a Lansky years ago...there are better systems now (that cost a LOT!), but the Lansky is inexpensive and they have added tons of stones...I have them all...and have the base which I screwed into a piece of hardwood. I use a big spring clip to attach it to my coffee table and I can hone my blades on a guided system AND watch the game! ( YES..I am single. LOL!)...I can put a damn good edge on with that when the blade is past just stropping....a KME or a Wicked Edge would be nice....

I dig it, but I don't know if it would be worth replacing my sharp maker. The camera angle did make it look kinda wonky but anyone who has sharpened on a similar system should get the jist of it. XHP can be a tad chippy from my experience with it, but near ar chippy as s30v.
