I just purchased the Ken Onion Edition. I have a Bubba Blade , 10", filet knife that I have not been able to get the sharpness that is required to filet large satwater fish that I catch. Using the Work Sharp Ken Onion starting with the X65 Belt at low to medimum speed, the knife took shape. After following the instructions of 6 to 10 pulls of the knife I switched to the X22 Belt and again followed the instructions.I then moved on to the X4 and did what the instructions told me to do. Wow, my filet knife is sharp and usable for the first time. Can't wait to get all my knives in tip top shape. Thank you Work Sharp for the best sharping tool that I have ever used. All of my settings for the filet knife were set at 20 degrees.

I have a question. Keeping the blade level when sharpening is quite important. It seems there is room for error when you only have a removed ‘reference’ flat surface. I’ve been using this system for almost a year. It didn’t take long to master. Last night I took a knife from dull to shaving sharp while I was half asleep and it only took about 5 minutes. By the way, my hands shake pretty bad and I can still get a beautiful and consistent edge.
That's exactly the video I needed. I have butchered (pun intended) a couple knives lately and this will really help me fix the error in my ways...and the knives. Just last week I did a horrible job on the point of an old custom Camillus Mk2 knife that a previous owner had expertly modified into a spear point, and I felt sick to my stomach when I trashed it while attempting to sharpen it. After watching this, I am optimistic. I just ordered the Blade Grinding Attachment and some belts to upgrade my KO Work Sharp kit. I just learned a ton of much needed knowledge and I am definitely going to watch this again. Can't wait to get started with the new attachment, get some much needed practice and confidence, and fix my Mk2 spear point! Thanks very much!
Picked up my Ken Onion at Blade Show Atlanta last weekend. Watched your video, and now I’m stoked to get started sharpening every blade in my house! Thanks so much for the detailed explanation on this awesome machine.
I'm a waterstone guy, I learned on them and prefer choseras and shapton ha no kurumakus. I've never been interested in units like the work pros and other setups that control the angle like that until the blade grinding attachment came out. It's fantastic for reprofiling, grinding bevels and allows me to continue freehand sharpening. I truly believe there is no "better" way to sharpen then freehanded. You develope a deep understanding and intricate knowledge in regards to blade sharpening as you progress.

I have been using this sharpener for about a year now - it’s the most consistent sharpener I have been able to find. I have used one more consistent, but I am no longer able to find it. The Ken Onion Elite System is extremely capable.
The grainder is just a great upgrade to an already wonderful tool. It is one of the best sharpining tool i have ever used. It is fast, precise, versatile, and long lasting. It is just superb 👌.
Thank-you for an exceptional video. This sharpener was demonstrated at our recent Due South Woodcarvers Club meeting as part of a knife sharpening program and I immediately knew I had to have one. The shop is waiting to get more in and I will then have one. Nick's endorsement and high praise of this machine clinched the sale. This video helps me to understand what I forgot during the club demo and it introduces me to your great product line. I expect many more guys will be buying this from our local knife store because of his exceptional service, expertise, and your products. Kyle and Kyle are also great reps for your company. I enjoyed their presentation.
Anybody who's watching this video thinking about getting this machine, do it it's so worth it I've never been scared of how sharp a knife was until today, and it was my first time using this machine so it's only going to get better this thing is incredible
I have sharpened hundreds of knives, hedge clippers and other items on the Ken Onion Worksharp sharpener at the farmers market where I have a small stand. But the knife making attachment is a whole new level of effectiveness. The more I use it the more I love it. The adaptability of the system is amazing and very effective. It is so fas. I will be getting a 2nd system soon so tht I can cut my time in half again.

I had no idea how much could be accomplished with my Ken Onion. I will be purchasing the Elite attachment to add to my sharpening tool box. Great video!!
I just bought the Ken Onion and precision adjust. I don't know anything about sharpening, but these 2 sharpeners make it easy! Absolutely no disappointments with the Work Sharp brand of tools! My EDC knives are better than ever. Thanks for the chance at the hat and appreciate the videos. 🤘😎🤘
i loved hearing the guy speak of using the belt edge and going with the curve on the belt to god use, i used the exact same rechniches on identical type of belt drive (MUCH bigger) working on glass polished and bevel edges. these skills and knowledge will be great for me when using a work sharp machine.
I just got the Belt Grinding Attachment for my KO sharpener. Glad I watched this video. It will save me much time not reinventing the wheel. Thanks a lot.
I just got my work sharp and cant wait to get started . And i sure like that hat .it would go nice with my ken onion knife collection. Have a great day guys.....
Well after purchasing mk2 riser for the newer model machine to keep a steady blade while sharpening. I realize i like to freehand it better. Yes,takes some practive. Isnt that the fun of it.
I went to buy the ken Onion edition at Cabela's one day after doing some research. It looked like the best option for me, I've got a lot of knives. Kitchen, hunting, fishing, bushcraft, work knives and my swords. As a customer when I was there I ended up selling your product to other customers by explaining the benefits of it. Plus it was on sale at the time so it just made it that much easier. Great product, I love it. 👍👍
Bought the WSKSKO for myself for Christmas and then saw the Blade Beast and had to have one. OUTSTANDING tools, thank you guys! In the beginning I saw the burr but didn't recognize it for what it was. Now I know, 'it is my friend'. Maybe some small comment on when I can't see it anymore because of my 'old man' eyes. My current action is to go five more passes with very fine grit and then feel the edge.
So glad I got the elite attachment. It's so fantastic and handy. Ditched my fancy/expensive manual rod types and am so pleased. Very few limitations, hours and hours and hours saved with superior results. After you "figure it out", it will take your blades to infinity and beyond, lol. Recommend their strop cloth belt and then a leather strop belt (leather does do better than their cloth belts, especially if you like shiny edges). Excellent tool!
I have just recently got into the knife community, and I've really been looking into what type of sharpener to purchase. After watching your video I feel the work sharp is definitely what I need to maintain new/future purchases!!!!!!! Thankyou
I love my blade grinding attachment! I've given several as gifts to friends as gifts. I use it almost almost exclusively for all my knives. There is a small learning curve but once you get the hang of it you'll be able to get a razor sharp edge and keep it razor sharp with ease. Let the burr form! Once you get the burr, it's simply a matter of reducing the burr down to a polished edge. I have several sharpening systems but this one is my favorite.
Excellent video thank you so much I've been using a 1 by 30 for a while now and I still learned some great things today, like the fact that I want to change my system over to this one. You guys have taken the Ken onion system to a whole new level!
Sooo, here is an idea: if the key is to hold the blade horizontally, why don't you include a little magnetic bubble level that you can snap onto your knife while sharpening? Just a litte thing, maybe a penny diameter size?
Love the ken onion knife sharpener used to have one otbut lost it in a f5 tornado my whole house now i have retired and on social security cannot afford one makes me sick.thanks Roger
I retired Last year and we have to scale down Most of my tools are bigger and benchtop but I Will still be able to make Knives with this Ken onion workshop system and a some of my other tools. I can't have fire . The Ken onion Well work perfectly for the Room I will have. To make kit knives. The video was great thank you very much.
Good stuff and great information. I just bought the Ken Onion Elite Knife and Tool Sharpener and grinder, and now it's all about learning and using it. This video really opens up the door to knowledge about what this tool can do and how to use it. Thanks guys and great job.
Work Sharp guys are the best teachers ever.that attachment you are showing in this 3 year old video.makes every one want to buy one.work sharp makes the best tools ,tools I trust.do they make the cloth belts for the stock ken onion sharpener.
I have had this Ken Onion edition knife sharpener for 2 to 3 years. I read the instruction manual about forming the bur, setting the angle, etc - but somehow I missed that I am supposed to be sharpening the knife on the top portion of the belt. With the angle set - intuitively - it seems that is was meant to bring the knife directly to the belt from the flat plate. The angles made no sense!. So, I essentially just went to winging it on the top belt at my own angle. I have not yet been able to get a knife razor sharp and was about to give up on this machine. I am very glad that I watched the video. I can go back to my sharpener and use it as intended and see if I can get that razor edge. As a side note, the work sharp chisel sharpener with the round plates is OUTSTANDING. My chisels are always razor sharp, slicing off end grain with ease. I have mostly been honing my knives on the top of the wheel. I have 2 leather hone attachments for different grits. This works really great on the left side of the knife. The right side is a challenge and I have cut many a sanding disk cutting the left side. Only use it to hone now. Still the knife will ultimately make some kind of cut in the leather and that will catch when right side sharpening. I was thinking modifying with a swift to reverse polarity as this machine was the only one that would get my knives truly sharp. After watching the tutorial I will definitely go back to the knife sharpener and give it another chance. Does anyone have any recommendations for knife honing polish. I have a green bar that seems to work well. I have read (on the advertisement) that you should start with the white bar first, then the green bar to finish - if you are looking for a shiny edge. I still love the feeling to passing a tool across a good stone, but the machines are so much fasters.
Thanks for making this video, I definitely learned some things. I bought my Ken Onion edition about 18 months ago and was duly impressed with how fast and easy sharpening on it was. I loaned it to a couple of friends to try and they loved it too. After hemming and hawing over the blade grinding attachment, I finally purchased one and I’m glad I did. It really added to the versatility of the system. Thanks for making a great product.
What I was doing before I bought this was placing my belt sander in the vice, using my judgement I held the angle and put an edge on. This tool sets the angle and I hold the knife flat, this is more comfortable and the belt change is so much easier.
Always nice to see how to sharpen the right way, I forget how sometimes, but keeping this video I can watch it again before I start my sharpening, thanks again
I’ve been teetering on the edge of buying one, really didn’t realise it was so versatile. I wish I’d bought this to begin with. I began with a Lansky rod sharpener, then the Spyderco triangular rod one, then the other Lansky deluxe system, each one didn’t fulfil my requirements.☹️. Finally going to get this, can’t wait!😁
Even on the Ken onion system I think it's important to pull the blade off the belt when the tip reaches the middle and not pull it all the way through the system glad to see that you're teaching that on this new grinder they should redo the instructions for the regular Ken onion on that point.
I use a magnetic bubble level that I attach to the knife to ensure a level blade while sharpening. Works even better on axes to ensure an equal grind side to side.
Just picked up my WSKO Elite and blade grinder attachment and extra belts about a week ago. I have been practicing on Sam's Club white handles knives we have had in the kitchen and even reprofiled one as they are all single bevel knives with one flat side. I have watched more than a few videos and yours is the best yet. I would ask where do you get your raw blades and handle materials? Thanks for sharing your "tricks".
Like the blade grinding system so much that I ordered 2nd which is currently on its way. My plan is to use one for grinding and one for fine grind along with cloth stropping and polishing belts, this way if I am sharpening more knives the unit gets to rest/cool down while other one is in use.
Excellent video!! I learned several things about using the Blade Grinding Attachment ... and this is after years of use and thousands of sharpening jobs with the Ken Onion sharpeners. And now I’m looking at knife kits and knife making. Thanks Kyle and Kyle! This video is chocked full of great information. Keep up the good work!
A real pleasure to watch professionals at work doing something they are passionate about. I will be ordering the elite kit this week. Really looking forward to taking it to the next level. Well done guys!
They are not professionals , they don't even know that a knife has 2 edges , primary and secondary its knives 101 . When you sharpen you knife , you make a v sharp edge , ok , as time goes on that v shape will become duller , because you did not address the bigger secondary V edge , not all knives have it but most kitchen knives do . If you want to do it like this , im sure you have motor , make a wooden disk , take some abrasive paste and do it that way . you never have to buy or make belts , one tube of abrasive will hold you for who know couple years . But that is not the best way to do it , because again you address only the tip of the knife , or the primary edge you do not address the secondary edge that is equally as important . Do you know why Razor is so sharp , because its thin , once you start eating away in to your knife your edge will become fatter and fatter because you did not thin it down when you sharpened the primary edge .
I have the Ken Onion knife sharper and it works great. Gets the knives razor-sharp too. I only use the blade grinder attachment....seems to work best for me.
I enjoy admiring the aesthetics of knives I also enjoy watching the burr come up on the edge while I'm sharpening it which is why I wear safety glasses!!!!!!!😧
Hey we have this machine that sets the angle, but you still have to free hand it! Don’t worry though as we have a small platform to help you guess as you try to hold the angle.
The Ken Onion sharpener comes with a cassette that guides your knife at a set angle for those that prefer it. The Blade Grinding Attachment, shown here, is for those that want a free hand experience. If that's not you, all good, stick to the guide. Thanks for watching!
I'm really considering buying this knife sharpener for my bigger knives like my Tops knives Skullcrusher, and Tom Brown Tracker. I can't find anything else that will not only sharpen such thick knives, but also the angles of those knives. My only question is does this elite version include the original Ken Onion system with the guides? I definitely want both systems to do the variety of knives I own. It seems this package does include the original Ken Onion. But I wanted to make sure before I make the purchase. If you guys could let me know I'd appreciate it! Also anyone else that knows. If you could respond to this comment I would greatly appreciate it!!!
Awesome!!!!!! Thank you for such an awesome presentation. I enjoyed watching it. You kept me interested the whole time. I especially enjoyed the part where you show about making knives and just playing around with the machine and getting to know it. I have recently purchased the Elite kit and I have yet to play with the blade grinder attachment because I haven’t read the manual I just started playing with the Ken Onion machine because it was less intimidating. But after watching your video I’m going to break it out tomorrow and get to know my machine. I have always been a knife collector and tried many different sharpening systems that I did not care for because it took too long. But with this Ken Onion Elite, I have found my love for sharpening knives. It is quick and easy to use. I really shouldn’t have been intimidated by the blade grinder attachment but I didn’t wanna mess up my knives LOL. Just wanted to say thank you again! I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos.
You guys rock!!! Inspired me to finally get a KO, and then a week later I forked out for the Blade Grinding Attachment, and haven't looked back! Many a knife and machete has already had its turn on the machine. Would love for you guys to do a tutorial or how-to on converting a Scandi grind to a Convex edge, for example - a standard Morakniv type scandi blade to a decent convex edge?!?! Keep up the good work and awesome vids! Yours truly, Dan from Down Under!
Wow! Very informative. Thanks so much. I just purchased the Elite system last week based on watching a video with Steve in it. And after getting a deeper explanation from you, Kyle, regarding the belts, including the cloth stropping belts, I just purchased them. I didn’t really consider the Ken Onion original system. It would be nice to be able to do scissors easily and consistently. But that seems pretty extravagant just for that extra. I’ll have to see how easy the results are for scissors after I get some sea legs with the Elite system first.
I would love to see more about the knife making process, especially the grinding part. The only reason that I would think to get a BGA would be to either thin out blade grinds or to bring up the blade finish to a higher grit.
@worksharpoutdoors I have the Ken onion elite with the attachment. It would be super nice if there was a flat guide attached to the grinder to hold the knife flat. So you’re not holding the knife in mid air. Something to set the knife on while the edge hung over to rest against the belt.
I love my Blade Grinding Attachment... best knife accessory purchase ever! I noticed you had a leather plate on the platen side - I must try adding that!
I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.
Great video, last knife i did on my ken onion with grinding attachment was a tracker knife a friend bought on ebay that was completely lacking an edge. Man those angles were hard to get right, but without the grinding attachment it would have been impossible. The knife turned out great!
I wish I could give double thumbs up! Excellent video with so much insight. And I love watching glint of the burr forming along the edge as I move the blade across.
great video I've just gotten the Ken Onion plus BGA a month ago. Love them. I'll admit I need to work on my skills with the Karambit....Its a tough blade for a beginner like me. You've got me interested in the knife making now!!!
Question. So I recently ordered the Ken Onion Elite and I am very excited to receive and start practicing on it. As I wait for it to arrive, I'm curious. Once my blade edges have been converted to convex, can I still sharpen on a stone (as I still enjoy the process and convenience)? Or does going back and forth continously change the edge profile and excessively wear down the blade? If this has been covered in another video please refer me to it as I have not come across it.
I want to know this too! What it is and how it's attached! I'm guess it's for flat grinding to keep the belt from rubbing against the wall of the grinding attachment.

Then why did you make this comment
@@LarryMarston because peep game ; this unit, is essentially-at it’s core-a FREE HANDED GRINDING TOOL-rite so it goes hand in hand with his free handed skills he has been honing for the last 33years.
Anyway that’s what hommie be fittin to be trying to be communchemicating…. Pace ✌🏿 ps you have just been edjumacated farther THEN you nur thought possible.
@@6nosis lmao. My guy out here edgumucating us. Thanks bud. Lol
Very impressed with Kyle Crawford. Perfect educator.
Hi from Italy, glad to listen someone who thinks and speaks like me when knives and sharpening is involved
I agree , I’ve taken my knife Nerdom to the next level with this system and I love it !! I’m going to start making my own knives , and Kyle Crawford!!! You can start your own show and I’m sure I speak for a lot of fellas , I would watch your shows , you are like the modern day Ken onion lol who is still my knife nerd idol
I had no idea how much could be accomplished with my Ken Onion. I will be purchasing the Elite attachment to add to my sharpening tool box. Great video!!
just got my Ken onion yesterday and watching some videos, I know I'm going to like this and the wife will to
I just bought the Ken Onion and precision adjust.
I like the wider belt on this elite. Got mine from menards and used menards rebates to get it . Well worth the money
Learned a lot on this video. Possibilities are indeed endless! Great job WorkSharp on coming up with this product.
Yeah tried that too. Realize after a few passes you don't really need it.
Wow, thanks!
Just got the KO edition and love it. Saw the attachment and was on the fence but this video has got me sold! Getting one real soon.
Boy does this gets my creative juices flowing!
And that's what she said 🤭
Thanks!
Quite helpful with my Ken Onion Christmas gift from my daughter.
It's a cool tool..!
This was a great and very helpful and informative video. You convinced me to buy it!
What is the 20:00 fixed blade double edged knife make and model ?
I have one on the way, thank you for showing some of the possibilities. Those 1095 knives were really nice.
Always nice to see how to sharpen the right way, I forget how sometimes, but keeping this video I can watch it again before I start my sharpening, thanks again
Awesome stuff! I got the ken onion sharpener for Christmas Great companion in the shop for making knives.
Great video. Just purchased this system and itching to get going without destroying anything :)
Thanks so much guys, great video! Looking forward to applying some of the tips and tricks!
Such an awesome system -love that you have added cloth belts!
I have the elite system and love it this is the video I've been looking for from Worksharp very well done
After five years I finally killed my worksharp mk1 and I look forward to seeing the new model at work soon in my shop.
I enjoy admiring the aesthetics of knives I also enjoy watching the burr come up on the edge while I'm sharpening it which is why I wear safety glasses!!!!!!!😧
Thank you for the demo and pointing out all that the Elite is able to do. I personally have learned a lot.
You should make a guide/platform for the blade grinding attachment. For machetes and swords/sabres. Something that tilts too. For thicker swords .
I have the original and one day I will have the Elite! Thank you for this instruction for future reference!

You can use a q-tip to check for a burr.
I love my Blade Grinding Attachment... best knife accessory purchase ever! I noticed you had a leather plate on the platen side - I must try adding that!
I started out with the smallest sharpener and worked up to the Ken Onion. My knives are always sharp
Good wide range of information. Thanks
Any chance for a video with the elite and the whole process for fillet knives?
I wish I could give double thumbs up! Excellent video with so much insight. And I love watching glint of the burr forming along the edge as I move the blade across.
Thanks for the video..freehand adjust and go to belt with free hand with belt that bends when sharpening. ...good luck. Thanks for the sample.
Fantastic! I've have wanted to begin making some knives, but I live in an apartment, no workshop, so maybe this is a place to start!
I did not know I could track the belt. I am glad I watched this episode!
Hey Kevin, you won the hat in our giveaway! Send an email to kyleo@worksharptools.com and we will get it shipped out!
Great video! It pushed me over the edge and now I’m going to get the Elite sharpener kit! Now I’m really going to need that KO signed hat!
great video I've just gotten the Ken Onion plus BGA a month ago. Love them. I'll admit I need to work on my skills with the Karambit....Its a tough blade for a beginner like me. You've got me interested in the knife making now!!!
Thank you for the education. These videos are so helpful.
Have one and love it. What's the padding on the vertical surface behind the belt?
I want to know this too! What it is and how it's attached! I'm guess it's for flat grinding to keep the belt from rubbing against the wall of the grinding attachment.
Can you use this to sharpen a straight razor?
You can but it takes a LOT of practice and a skilled hand.
My knife are now razor sharp. So versatile love it!!
