About Elvis:
Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (Austin Butler), seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).

I love how Elvis went directly where he could escape anxiety. Among friends and the spiritual vibrations of gospel and blues.
Exactly!
Caught that.
It’s all he knew 😢
Well that as well as literally leaving upper class white area and going down to the club with all black patrons. The radio station is the one station not playing his own music, his friends are there, and some of his followers will not venture down that way.
Well he grew up a bit holy roller and they are a bit wild so he just wants to be around his own kind.
I love the detail that he can’t escape his reality, even on the radio. It’s all Elvis.
Yea I caught that and thought the same thing.
Oh wow I didn’t catch thattttt
All he wanted was normal music
@@kmannash5924 what he liked was great music, he wanted to perform it and the industry and the world decided which part of that they liked and pushed him along.
Until he reaches the all black radio station. Such an amazing detail
The actor who played Little Richard put so much ENERGY into this! Amazing
Director Baz Lurhman missed a HUGE opportunity at club handy. After little richard sang "tutti fruitti", they should've had elvis rock out to "mean woman blues", it would've been EPIC!!!
think they should get him to play little Richard in a miniseries or movie or is it already time to find another little Richard?
So did the Actor who portrayed ELVIS.
Great scene too...
I didn' t see that performance in the MOVIE ! Either some of the songs I can see here in Tube now ? I don' t understand ?? So " What' s the matter, baby ?"

B.B. King
"There wasn't an ounce of racism in that man's body, believe me I'd know"
B.B. King
B.B. also said that in the early 70s' when both had a residency, they'd get together in Elvis's dressing room and sing "every Blues song" together- can you imagine if that had been bootlegged??!
@@WilliamByronIs B.B. also attended the Parties in Elvis’s Suite ,They were Friends
@@retrobilly1719 Yes, B.B. said they'd play old Blues songs all night. I wish there were bootlegs of that!
BB king in this reminded me of Bubba from Forest Gump
@@gabaghoul23 Why? Kelvin Harrison Jr nails B.B. King's voice and mannerisms, which is nothing like Bubba's at all. Bubba is literally slow mentally and doesn't speak well. B.B. is hip and well spoken

Love how in this scene when fans keep swarming him, he's never once rude to them.
His fans were psychos.
Just like Austin himself. A real class act.
@@roddyboethius1722 I hope your happy Tom Parker! 😡 He just exploited Elvis and he is squeezing him dry until he died!
he really did loved his black fans and loved hanging with them I hated that the media put out he was against black's when he wasn't

@@moisesojeda1085 makes sense now
He grew up with them that’s why he love them
He was friends with my dad Billy Ward of the Dominoes
Probably wasn't just the media. Elvis' management would have been in on it to keep his image very WHITE FRIENDLY.
I LOVE when Elvis stops in the Cadillac at 1:37 and the music slows down to Elvis signing “I’m feeling so lonely, baby, feeling so lonely” and then continues to chaos. Because thats exactly how Elvis lived his whole life…
Yesssss.... Those little details are priceless in this film!
I liked how he dose a skid in the Cadillac and the song that plays after his flicking through radio stations!

This scene blows my mind! BB King, Little Richard, Sister Rosetta Thorp and Elvis Presley in the same room. Tripping out hard!
Makes me want to time travel to this time & place! I saw BB King in my early twenties and again in my early forties and I feel so blessed!
This might be my favorite scene in the whole movie. I love the mix of old and new music, it shows just how cool Elvis was to people back then - like a modern rap star or ballplayer would be today.
I love when Kanye West comes on

@@bradhuskers maybe that could be in the 4-hour Luhrmann cut. I would've also loved to see more of Little Richard after this scene! Maybe he could've gone into Rip It Up, Long Tall Sally, or Lucille (bonus points on Lucille since B.B. King named his favorite guitar Lucille)
Wish there were cameras around back then, we missed some of the rawest performances
This scene made BB King look so warm and comforting. Like an old appreciating friend.
And Alton Mason going all in with that incredible energy as Little Richard singing Tutti-Fruity was one of the best bits of the movie for me!
He was like that
This is easily my favorite scene! The music, energy, cinematography, and Austin’s charisma are off the charts!

I do, but he cannot capture or compare to Elvis.
No offense, I am and will always be in love with EP.
Austin Butler was Beyond phenomenal.
People are criticizing him for sounding like Elvis when he was accepting his award Grammy award at the award show I mean he had to be working on this movie for three years it kind of makes a lot of sense that he's going to sound like the person is supposed to be playing in the movie
Austin Butler impressed me in this scene. For a moment it's like you are watching Elvis Presley not an actor. Very impressive.
I simply love this scene, specially in the part when sister Rosetta is singing with all those black legends and Elvis is chilling with them, it shows perfectly how Elvis loved their music, loved to be with them and how it was fundamental to his music. Superb!

Yes!
Baz could have hit a grand slam there.
Look up elvis's, "mean woman blues" here on UA-cam. It's filmed in color, from the movie "loving you", now imagine elvis jumping on stage right after little richard, and bringing "club handy" to it's feet!!!!
I love that scene also. He wasn't Elvis the King, but Elvis one of the boys.
So did elvis really hang out at the club or this is just frictional?
Someone else mentioned this but you gotta appreciate how even though Elvis clearly felt overwhelmed by everyone surrounding him, he still did his best to shake hands, smile and sign autographs.
Bb king lil Richard and Elvis wow 🤩
And Sista Rosetta Thorton.
Kelvin Harrison Jr. as B.B. King, with just a few minutes of screen time, is fantastically soulful. His delivery of the line "if you're sad / happy and you wanna be sad / happy, you're in the right place," is so warm, so supportive, I feel personally comforted just watching him. You really feel B.B. would have been a best friend for life had they kept strong contact; the idea of Elvis being prevented from collaborating with heroes and peers like King is heartbreaking. This sequence, including the window discussion, hit many richly emotional notes for me, it's just masterful.
Elvis and BB hooked back up in Vegas backstage I think or in a room, and played a lot blues in 69 or 70. Same as James Brown sang in a hotel room with Elvis a bunch of Gospel, but yeah the official colorations never occurred sadly
Alton Masons cameo as Little Richard was one of the best scenes in the movie. Another great casting for this wonderful movie
....i only bought it so see him do justice to Little Richard.....everything else is gravy to me....
He nailed Elvis's laugh at 4:11. Oscar-worthy performance. At least he got a golden globe.
Sadly, the Academy hated it. They only liked it enough to nominate the movie for an award, they didn’t want him to win. One would suggest that the higher ups probably saw that “Elvis” got the highest amount of votes in every category it was nominated in, and they chose to give it to a lesser movie. That’s why I don’t watch awards shows that much.
Yeah. Was listening to the 68 revival album and he laughs several times throughout the show and the intonation is DEAD on. Incredible stuff.
He always paid homage to his roots and inspirations. That’s why I’m a fan
This is one of my favorite scenes also. BB king told Elvis a very big truth

You can feel all the stress and the pressure that he felt…it’s an intense scene and I love it
Bravo to Baz Luhrmann for emphasizing how much Elvis was influenced by soul and gospel singers. You can easily hear that in every song he sang. This is my favorite scene in the film. Elvis escaping to where he felt most comfortable and welcome.

Elvis used to rehearse at MGM Studios now Sony Studios in Culver City. My cousin and I saw him once driving up Washington blvd entering the Studios. This was back in the early 70s. A dark haired man was in the passenger seat. Might've been Joe Esposito. That was quite a thrill.

There’s so much attention to detail from only elvis playing on the radio when he needs an escape to the slow I’m so lonely part of heartbreak when he slows down to Austin’s movements and gestures!!! That’s what makes it feel like you’re not watching a actor because of his gestures, laugh, hand movements, body placement, smile SO MANY THINGS ARE SPOT ON.

Honestly and personally I believe Spike Lee should direct a biopic on black billiards legend Cisero Murphy. There’s great potential there, much like how Paul Newman in The Hustler reignited America’s love of eight ball pool 🎱.

As usual, you're dead wrong.
Having the young elvis rock out to "mean woman blues" after little richard, would have SHOWN the connection they all had.
And, it would've made the scene richer and fuller.
If you had an ounce of intelligence, you'd understand that.
The problem Baz Lurhman had with Austin, was that Austin's voice was limited and he specifically chose songs that Austin could handle. Elvis had many "rocking songs in the 50"s.
And at club handy, elvis rocking out with little richard, would have been EPIC, improving the film in every way possible.
You remain completely clueless.

Every era has a great window in music. Elvis, Jerry Lee, BB King and Little Richard are certainly a great one
Now we need a Little Richard biopic, and have that guy play him
I met BB King back in March of 1985. At the time, I was 16, and had no idea BB had known Elvis. It was an incredible enough experience all by itself -- had I known about history like this, I'd've totally flipped. BB was a shaman, a magician, a 100% spiritual force in concert. It's really no wonder he and Elvis hit it off so well.
I admire Austin's dedication to this role. He put every part of his heart and soul into this. He's a great actor and I can't wait to see what he does in the future.
