About Elvis:
Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (Austin Butler), seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).

“Nobody’s going to remember me. I never done anything lasting. I never made that classic film that I can be proud of.” That is probably the saddest scenes in the movie. Austin Butler was amazing in this role. He deserves every award, I hope he gets the Oscar.

@ELVIS 2022 I'm pretty sure that the person is saying THEY were 16 when Elvis died. not that Elvis was 16.
@ELVIS 2022 you said 42, which is the age Elvis was when he died. I thought you were correcting the person who said they were 16 when Elvis died.

@ELVIS 2022 lol ok
This was one of the few times I've cried in the cinema. Baz Luhrmann really knows how to build an atmosphere. The grey colours of the airport, the enclosed space in the car, the music in the background. This scene is incredibly heartbreaking.
I wasn't a fan of Elvis going into the theater but this scene really messed me up emotionally, I can only imagine Priscilla & Lisa's reaction to this scene..

may i know how she passed?
Elvis adored his little girl. She was his world.
Yes, you can definitely see that in those family pictures that they took especially when it was just Lisa Marie and EP. And although she was only 9 when he passed away, the things that she remembers and has shared say it all. There’s the time she was in her bedroom and pretending that a hairbrush was a microphone and she was pretending to sing. Then she just sensed his presence and turned around and he was standing in the doorway looking at her and smiling. He wasn’t laughing at her he was just enjoying watching her. But the thing that always touched me the most was when she said in an interview that the one place she felt the most safe and secure was in his bedroom and office. She’d go through his religious and philosophy books and read all the notes and questions he had written in the margins. And no matter whatever happened to her, returning to Graceland and going up to his room and office was the best place for her (this was before Benjamin died though). They definitely had a bond.

I cried so much when Elvis went up the stairs to go in the plane. It was so sad.
Watching this again made me cry. That's how emotional this scene is.
That was the scene that really broke my heart as well. My daughter, who was only 7 when Elvis died, now she’s 52, didn’t have the strong connection that I had, and she said that scene was so sad that it brought tears to her eyes. He seemed broken and so lonely.
Elvis brought so much happiness and joy to his fans when we heard him or watched him. He did not deserve to leave this world so very young.😢
and Austin as Elvis telling the story about the bird
I will always love you. That got me.
This scene broke my heart...the colors, the music, the dialogue. This movie really showed how sad Elvis's life really was.
He did it to himself

@@cazpk6840 It was a combination of him doing it to himself and people preying on his fame and taking advantage of him

Why did he give up on his dream?

“40.. and nobody’s going to remember me, I’ve never done anything lasting..” I was deeply saddened that this was a real quote Elvis said. I’m happy this film was released, as it revealed Elvis to a new generation. RIP Elvis, we still remember you. ❤
They really got it right. An amazing movie and this scene blew me away. We all know these moments, where there is so much tension that you can barely say hello or touch the other person. It made it very relatable how lonely he must have been inside. No nice car or clothes, no amount of fans or money can help you if you feel so empty, alone and lost.

So sad that he was feeling so lost only at age 40.

I love this scene in the movie. When he told Priscilla, ‘I will always love you’, so heartbreaking.
Gosh, what a heartbreaking and soul-shattering scene, brilliantly and flawlessly played by Austin Butler. This scene speaks volumes in so many ways. The people who truly cared about Elvis did everything they could to get him the help he needed, and all they could do was helplessly watch as Elvis slipped farther and farther away. This is the moment in the movie I always start crying. Watched it 5 times and it happens every time. So well played by Austin and Olivia. It is so sad!
The 3:36 mark is in my opinion the absolute SADDEST part of this scene. It's heartbreaking to me because at that moment, despite what he's going through, he has to step out into the world and pretend like he has everything together, like his life is perfect, like he's happy. He had to protect an image that was nothing more than a lie.
I couldn't have said it better.

Elvis said one time that a man can't live up to an image.

Still remember opening weekend. People needed a few minutes to compose themselves before they got up. Very emotional movie.

These days, the age of 40 is so young and of course Elvis had done lasting stuff - and of course, here we are, nearly 50 years since his passing, we still remember and love him and he is still gaining new fans around the world. No
I need this song version
That scene was devastating to watch on so many levels. There was also something else in the scene that I’m not sure many people picked up on. When he mouths to Priscilla, “I will always love you” I don’t know if people recognized that it was the title of a song that Dolly Parton had written and REALLY wanted him to sing. (Of course she had written it related to the breakup with Porter Waggoner) But she absolutely wanted EP to do it but Parker made all these demands on Dolly regarding the royalties. She said, “I can’t do that. That’s what I set aside for my family after i pass away to protect them.” So it ended up that EP didn’t sing it. Dolly had a hit with it and then a few years later Whitney Houston had a monster hit with it for the movie The Bodyguard. So it was another lost opportunity for EP due to the Colonel’s machinations. I’m not saying EP knew that when he mouthed it to Priscilla, just that it registered to me after I saw the movie several times. But the whole scene in the car about no one remembering him and his watching them drive away really made me cry.
I learned this after watching the movie (and maybe you already know)--on the day that Elvis and Priscilla went to court to finalize their divorce, these were the exact outfits that each of them wore. Priscilla said that during the proceeding she and Elvis were holding hands, and as they left the courtroom he was walking behind her whispering the lyrics to "I Will Always Love You."
Someone said he sang that song to Priscilla the day they divorced. The clothes they're wearing in this scene are the clothes they wore the day the divorce was finalized. They left the courtroom holding hands.
@@susanma4899 Yea. I even read although I don’t know if it’s true that the judge kept watching the two of them, saw how they were behaving towards each other and asked them, “ Are the two of you sure you wish to get divorced?” They replied they did and they moved forward with signing the papers.
Yeah I saw a Dolly Parton interview. That song was really meant for Elvis to sing.
But do you really think this scene really happened? From what I read no one dared to tell elvis he needed treatment if they did you were no longer in the group. And Priscilla also dabbled in pills they all did. She cheated on elvis and vice versa. This movie seems from the perspective of the colonel and Priscilla. I would love to see a movie from the inner friends of elvis.
