ELVIS is an epic, big-screen spectacle from Warner Bros. Pictures and visionary, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Baz Luhrmann that explores the life and music of Elvis Presley, starring Austin Butler and Oscar winner Tom Hanks.
A thoroughly cinematic drama, Elvis’s (Butler) story is seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). As told by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamic between the two spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).
Starring alongside Butler and Hanks, award-winning theatre actress Helen Thomson (“Top of the Lake: China Girl,” “Rake”) plays Elvis’s mother, Gladys, Richard Roxburgh (“Moulin Rouge!” “Breath,” “Hacksaw Ridge”) portrays Elvis’s father, Vernon, and DeJonge (“The Visit,” “Stray Dolls”) plays Priscilla. Luke Bracey (“Hacksaw Ridge,” “Point Break”) plays Jerry Schilling, Natasha Bassett (“Hail, Caesar!”) plays Dixie Locke, David Wenham (“The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, “Lion,” “300”) plays Hank Snow, Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “The High Note”) plays B.B. King, Xavier Samuel (“Adore,” “Love & Friendship,” “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”) plays Scotty Moore, and Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Power of the Dog”) plays Jimmie Rodgers Snow.
Also in the cast, Dacre Montgomery (“Stranger Things,” “The Broken Heart Gallery”) plays TV director Steve Binder, alongside Australian actors Leon Ford (“Gallipoli,” “The Pacific”) as Tom Diskin, Kate Mulvany (“The Great Gatsby,” “Hunters”) as Marion Keisker, Gareth Davies (“Peter Rabbit,” “Hunters”) as Bones Howe, Charles Grounds (“Crazy Rich Asians,” “Camp”) as Billy Smith, Josh McConville (“Fantasy Island”) as Sam Phillips, and Adam Dunn (“Home and Away”) as Bill Black.
To play additional iconic musical artists in the film, Luhrmann cast singer/songwriter Yola as Sister Rosetta Tharpe, model Alton Mason as Little Richard, Austin, Texas native Gary Clark Jr. as Arthur Crudup, and artist Shonka Dukureh as Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton.
Oscar nominee Luhrmann (“The Great Gatsby,” “Moulin Rouge!”) directed from a screenplay by Baz Luhrmann & Sam Bromell and Baz Luhrmann & Craig Pearce and Jeremy Doner, story by Baz Luhrmann and Jeremy Doner. The film’s producers are Luhrmann, Oscar winner Catherine Martin (“The Great Gatsby,” “Moulin Rouge!”), Gail Berman, Patrick McCormick and Schuyler Weiss. Toby Emmerich, Courtenay Valenti and Kevin McCormick executive produced.
The director’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Mandy Walker (“Mulan,” “Australia”), Oscar-winning production designer and costume designer Catherine Martin (“The Great Gatsby,” “Moulin Rouge!”), production designer Karen Murphy (“A Star Is Born”), editors Matt Villa (“The Great Gatsby,” “Australia”) and Jonathan Redmond (“The Great Gatsby”), Oscar-nominated visual effects supervisor Thomas Wood (“Mad Max: Fury Road”), music supervisor Anton Monsted (“Australia,” “Moulin Rouge!”) and composer Elliott Wheeler (“The Get Down”).

First 20 seconds gave me chills, I remember the theaters shaking to this scene. Felt like Elvis singing from heaven!

Some people complained about this but I think this is the best way to open the movie. There’s no slow build up or boring introduction. It throws you straight into the action and holds your attention the entire time. Baz is a genius
Absolutely agree.
No offense intended, but you've just described how *every* Luhrmann film starts. He's like Kubrick - on meth.
@@TheStockwell That’s why he was the right man for the job

It's marvellous! Austin is very good ., and tom hank too! But elvis is the o ly one...the king! Thanm you baz luhman for gaving made this picture, we elvis fans owe you this joy! Elvis forever

I will always remember the first 20 seconds in cinema, my jaw dropped and I gasped. Was the most magical moment I've ever experienced in theater
literally
The first 20 seconds with the Warner Bros and Bazmark logo with the haunting "Suspicious Mind" song was absolutely chilling. I just can't stop playing that part because how absolutely beautiful and creative the logo intros are, it's magical. The moment I saw this in the theater, I knew I'm ready for a great movie from Baz Luhrmann 🙌🙌
The best logo intro imo
@@nenabunena very creative indeed, from all WB intros, this is probably the most unique one. The Harry Potter ones were awesome but this was just on a whole another level
One questions in 1973 want music Constant did ELiVs nearly die but he luckily survived
@@Erasureeraser for me, it's a tie between the legends of the guardians and Sherlock Holmes
Not hunting, but ambient
I love it when it says "Let's don't let a good thing die", I know it is part of the song "Suspicious Minds", but at the beginning of the film, so haunting... It's like saying "Let's don't let Elvis's legacy die"... Perfect.
Baz Luhrmann has some of the most beautiful openings to his movies.
He's an auteur for sure
Absolutely love this preview! Iv bought the digital copy and preordered the dvd…… but still going to the cinema!!!!! Let’s keep going everyone!!! Elvis deserves continuous success!!!!!
Definitely going to keep seeing it in the cinema as long as it's on 💜
My count is now well over 30 times …..two more scheduled and one on the 16th, which will be poignant…..already pre-ordered the Blu-ray……..definitely a must see in the movie theatre if you can …⚡️⚡️⚡️
This is probably the best film I have seen in a real long time in theaters. Austin Butler and Tom hanks both did amazing performances. I kept forgetting that was Tom and Austin because of how well they portrayed Elvis and the Colonel. I hope they both get nominated for a Oscar
i got so many chills watching this movie
Same! I get chills every time I’ve seen it
Samee and I got so emotional I was always on the verge of crying I got so many goosebumps Elvis was and still is a phenomenal human that walked on this planet ❤️
Baz Luhrmann was absolutely perfect to direct this with his swagger and intense exaggarated visual style that fits Elvis' vibes perfectly. If Baz didn't direct this, I could imagine it would've been a completely different movie, probably just a formualic approach of a biopic but Baz's style adds a lot of energy to this movie that I really enjoyed
Spot on, I was actually dreading the Baz style as I don't like the mad fast-paced action, but it was a slightly calmer version and the pace really suited the huge mad fast rise to fame Elvis had in the early years. After the 50s scenes it calmed down a little more, Baz paced the whole film perfectly!
Also, Elvis's style and his massive out-there story needed a big extravagance to bring it to life on screen and do Elvis justice, this is where Baz really shined and where all other Elvis bios fail. Elvis and his incredible story is just too big for most directors!
I now think Baz is genius, the costumes, the direction, the pace, the story, the music, and especially Austin as Elvis, ALL PERFECT!
Absolutely stunning movie, love it! 👏👏😁
@@jayt9234 I think the pace can at times be a problem, The first and third act was pretty good, the second act however was just a little bit rough for me. I almost fell asleep at the theater during the scenes of Elvis with his crew. When it comes to Elvis with Tom Parker and his family, that's where the movie gets interesting for me
Next, Baz should direct The Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra biopic next
I wasn't an Elvis fan, I hardly heard his music, and saw this film, just cause, but my god was it worth it. It's a gorgeous movie with incredible acting and cinematography.
While I didn’t watch this in theaters, I did watch it while being incredibly high with my friends. Let it be known that I hadn’t the slightest clue of the power and soul of Elvis’s voice and oh my Lord. Words cannot express the intensity of the emotions I felt. I cried, I cheered, and now I obsess over many of the King’s catalogue. Amazing movie!
I can’t believe how many people were bashing Austin Butler for this role before the movie came out. This is the best performance an actor has done at playing a famous musician.
Yeah
I can even say he surpassed Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody (A great perfomance in a 50/50 movie) , and i thought Rami did a great job in term of potraying an iconic musician . Austin deserve a best actor award
And waaaay better than Taron Egerton did playing Elton John
Johnny Cash?
@@mad_borden overall the movie "Walk the line" was a better movie then "elvis". But Butler did a better job of portraying the charter IMO. not saying Phoenix's Johnny was bad, Butler is just more believable as elvis
THIS MOVIE IS A MASTERPIECE
I went to see it yesterday and OMG, it was so great & definitely is a movie that needs to be seen in the theater. if it's still playing in your area. Don't deny yourself from seeing Austin's amazing performance. I forgot I was looking at an actor and not Elvis. It was an out of body experience.
Same to everything you just said! I haven’t stopped thinking about this movie since I saw it 5 days ago and I’m going back to see it again before it leaves theaters. It’s too good not to watch on the big screen as much as possible. Austin did one of the best performances I’ve ever seen!

Austin Butler is amazing. He embodies Elvis. And after a while, I forgot I was looking at an actor and not Elvis. Wow!
I am so hoping for an Oscar for him
@@eileengriffin6476 I think Austin looks so much like Elvis in the ‘68 Comeback Special scenes that I forget I’m watching an actor too. He truly deserves an Oscar but whether the powers that be in the film industry bestow one on him is another matter. Here’s hoping.
That opening animation with the fading voice in the background is so beautiful.
This was one of best openings I have ever seen in a film.. the editing, the music , the whole background music and score etc.
When I heard that singing at the beggining of the movie I was thrilled and some special feelings going through my mind. With every minute of movie I was so glad that I watch phenomenal Austin Butler as Elvis.Thank you very much for this video.

Beautiful
You just spoiled the beginning of the movie for yourself
I like the transitions of the clips and the voice of tom hanks, its so clear. And i like how they do the movie it's very good, Baz luhrmann did a new bloody masterpiece.
The transitions are pretty great. Especially with how the camera goes in and out of the Las Vegas billboard. It's almost as if it were a toy set! And how the words "LIAR", "CONMAN", and "CHEAT" appear on the board as the news anchor says the words. Really brings you into the bad nightmare the Colonel is having
@@martinshewfelt1236 yes the nightmare scene is like the scene from spiderman far from home, where spiderman is in misterio's illutions its very great idea to make a nightmare with good transitions.

Couldn’t agree more. I desperately want him to make a Marilyn Monroe biopic next 🤍
The first 20 seconds was the most magical feeling I have ever felt. I remember gripping my seat and feeling like I was watching Elvis's soul unfold before me. Moments before I have never heard his voice or knew much about him. I wish I could experience that first time feeling again.

I don't know what effect that is called but I thought that was super cool how we could just only hear his voice being played in no other sound it was such an interesting out of body sound that just made it sound super cool and magical.

I loved many parts of the movie and gave me chills and often I was in tears... Sometimes I even felt angry because I remember so much from that time in our history and in Elvis death and other huge sad events... I lived vf throughout and it has always effected me... Elvis his voice and how he sang to us in a way we could all relate and he knew the songs of real life, of Love, sadness, loss and our emotions... They were His too... This movie showed that and the timing bvb they used each song of HIS music and performances... He did the music the Greatest if all time and none can compare... But he had happy times too and they did not show that... They showed his Greatness, loss and tragedy.
Do yourself a favor and see this movie in the cinema. There are few movies that need to be experienced in all it's glory 🙂

I love elvis!
Who dosent he was a legend like Micheal Jackson WHTIEY Houston’s and may more
God bless the king Elvis the king of rock and roll,
03:30 - 04:07 I gotta say, the visuals here and the way the combine with the music are phenomenal. First we have Elvis 'powering' to sing the last bit of American Trilogy, we also have the audience bawling and losing it because they are seeing the best show of their lives, Colonel Parker looks like he is concerned that his product is being over used or consumed beyond his control.
And then you have Elvis and the singers, with the blue light, almost as if they are on their own but somewhat melancholic (remember what situation Elvis was on) but 'the show had to go own', I absolutely adore how during the last vocals we have all of the other frames replaced with an angle from Elvis to the drum beat, the man was truly a whole act.
Thanks to All who support Him keep His legacy alive forever Elvis Presley let's Make this best year for Elvis Presley TCB 2022
A.Butler must be happy and excited when he played ELVIS!
Travelled to 6 different cinemas in 6 weeks to watch the screening of this artistic masterpiece :) each time it was different because there was a different audience from a distinct neighbourhood of the city :) I never experienced this with any movie but I believe that is the purpose of true art - to inspire you to challenge your potential and creativity as a spectator and art lover :)

The reason why this is Baz’s best film in my opinion is for one reason
The dialogue isn’t weird
In films like Great Gatsby, Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge, the dialogue sounds fake and forced
Like in every scene in Romeo and Juliet it sounds like the actors have no idea what they’re talking about
But in this film, everything seems like it actually happened, to which it did, and the dialogue sounds like how people would speak unlike Moulin Rouge or Great Gatsby where they all speak with wide eyed expressions
I respect your opinion but I honestly disagree what you said about Baz I love Elvis one of his best films but Moulin Rouge is his best
I mean this is clearly Baz Luhrmann's best film, some can make arguments for either ballroom or Moulin rouge but those films don't quite have the humanity Elvis has
@@moviegeek1111 moulin my favourite but I could be Nicole Kidman biased but I wouldn’t say that because I love Tom Hanks just as much as I love her

2:37 that line is based on actual statement Parker made to Larry Gellar about five months before Elvis passed. According to Gellar, Elvis was very ill and couldn't leave his bed. Parker showed up to the hotel room and went into Elvis' bedroom. Larry said that when Parker opened the door, he could see Dr Nick dunking Elvis' head into a bucket of ice water to revive him and that Elvis was moaning and almost comatose. After a minute Parker came back out and told Larry" Now you listen to me. The only thing that matters is getting that man on stage tonight' So there is truth in this scene.
So abusive Manager how he can do that to Elvis
