This is a duo that I've been looking forward to restoring and customising for some time. The Matchbox 8G De Tomaso Pantera. I managed to source some truly excellent reproduction decals to replace the lost stickers. But the original casting had some great cast in detail, particularly at the rear in need of highlighting with a custom. So I did just that.
One of my 1975 to 1981 castings had been crushed above the driver's side window so that needed bending back into shape. Sadly though, because the novelty wheels fitted by Lesney were just so big, my custom wheels of choice just didn't look right, so I had to delve into my stock of Greenlight wheels to fit a larger set instead. Still, I think my chosen wheels suit.
The Pantera was in production for 20 years between 1971 and 1991. 7,620 were made, with the majority arriving between 1972 and 1975 when De Tomaso allowed Ford to import the vehicles and then become involved in the production process. More than three quarters of the production volume came during this time. De Tomaso of course utilised Ford engines throughout the existence of the original incarnation.

One of my favorite castings from back in my childhood. Love how both came out. Nice work!
Great results on both and nice to do a resto and resto mod in the same episode. Liked the history piece too!
Nice restorations, details and paint jobs 👌 👍
excellent and beautiful yellow color 👏👏👏👏
Really nice job on both Jason!!! Love this casting, had a few of them always grabbing upgrades in condition. The extra details on the custom came out awesome. The restoration came out beautiful
Hi Jason,
Both cars are excellent, the custom is special with those wheels even if the license plate has the wrong colours as it should be blue with yellow letters for California
Great job Jason 👍
Awesome diecast cars! I have one of those diecast
Wow they look fantastic well done jason 👍
Top work on both models! Really nice! I love the new wheels on the yellow car, but both are superb..
Matchbox restaurant and custom 8G. De. Tomato. Pantera
aw. both look great! be it the restored or the custom. :) I didn't know they were produced for so long. interesting that they still found buyers after that time without any modification or different design to speak of. imagine the same with current hot wheels... XD
I'm not sure about the Mangusta, but with the Pantera they not only used Ford engines (and ZF gearboxes), but also other Ford parts, mostly suspension. DeTomasos saloons used even more, if I recall right Granada headlights and some interior details as well as the suspension.
interesting thing, the Mangusat must have made quite the impact on kid's playgrounds back when; I have almost more Mangustas in my collection than Panteras. there was even a cable-guided 1:12 scale model made in GDR!
Beautiful resto and custom jobs. Amazing how yellow one with all your details looks so much better now. Resto looks very cool as well. I know of someone who had a 1980s pantera in wine red. metallic very rare and beautiful car. Keep er lit ya boy ye
Great results as ever Jason. The original version actually looks nice, I suppose that's because the oversized wheels cannot be replaced as they're such an integral part of the design. I hope that your elbow is feeling better.
Yes it’s on the mend, thank you!
Excellent builders always my friend you forgot my name in the list. I'm one of your patrone And I prefer the yellow one hnds down looks much better than new original. Keep up to go to work and God bless my friend.
I think it should be on from next weeks video. I’m a little bit ahead to allow for time to put the videos together then start on my next projects! Thanks again for your support 🙏🏻
@@DieCastRestos your very welcome I watch your videos everytime and I love them all
Great as always!
A terrific looking car to do. They both look great Jason. Nice added detail on the yellow custom. I like the original one best, a better finish and looks really flashy!
Both look great!
Excellent work is always there Jason I love them both but I have been a big Pantera fan for a long time I just wish Matchbox Would Have Made It not if Superfast but regular casting keep up the good work have a good one and God bless my friend😊
Thought I was going to like the custom better, but I think Im leaning towards the restored version. Both look great though to be honest.
Do a combo, restored with details. Had no idea that casting was that good
Nice resto I do prefer the white pantera
👍👍👍👍
Restored. I like the color of the custom, but I'm not a fan of the outlining of the doors, etc. I prefer the original Matchbox version.
🤗👍👏👏👏
I like the restored car better, but I have to say that I've never liked the "fast wheels" on Matchbox cars, and I really don't like the balloon wheels that this model came with. Ugh. Those wheels always seemed too much like toy wheels to me. The white and blue is very striking though, and with the decals added, it gets my nod.
Custom Pantera is fairly work nice despite the still-present roof damage. Restored Pantera would've been better if you got the side decal placed right and proper. Bit of bad luck there. We also did a Pantera in yellow - but with none of the detail you've done. We also have a blue Matchbox Pantera as well as a silver Tomica Pantera. Never really liked the white Pantera casting on account of the stickers. The blue one we have is done up with tampos...
Jay Leno has an actual Pantera in blue ---> ua-cam.com/video/Dd2Unce43wI/v-deo.html
YELLOW IS BETTER TO ME
