I was the 17-year-old bus boy working late as Rod Stewart, and his "hottie" rolled in with a bright yellow Pantera. It made all the glasses in the restaurant shake with its thunderous exhaust. I told my co-workers, "someday I'll have one of those," my co-workers snickered back "yeah right." I worked my butt off, began a business that eventually became successful. One day, I realized that I had enough money saved to start looking. I found an incredible white 74 Pantera, my dream car.... It was worth the work.

I saw a white one listed for $169,899 yesterday. I don’t know if it’s sold yet or not but it probably won’t fetch quite that much. According to the ad, it was meticulously and faithfully restored to better than new condition with the engine completely rebuilt. The ad listed all the details of the restoration and it was quite thorough.
That’s a lot of money but still significantly less than many other exotic cars while still quite a bit more than most of the later models.
There are a few models that are more sought after and more expensive than the Pushbutton models. It depends upon supply and demand, original equipment and what modifications it has. *(Contrary to what some people believe, there are some modifications which increase the value.)*

I was 16 when I bought it in 1977 for $700. It was so much fun watching the speedo needle bounce off the post at 120mph.

He is right, the front end gets light. Took a guy for a ride when he asked if it would do 110 in third gear? I got a ticket that night.

Hi Nicole, Great job! Tom Tjaarda (charda) was a good friend of mine and on many occasions my house guest. He and I attended the Detroit Auto Show together. Tom was born in Birmingham, Michigan of Dutch ancestry. Tom’s Dad John, designed the Lincoln Zephyr in 1937. Tom graduated from U of M in architecture and ironically, an American, that designed an Italian car. His professor at U of M impressed by Tom introduced him to Pininfarina after Tom was instructed not to design a sports car so his professor restricted it to be a station wagon. Tom designed the most radical station wagon ever. Later he became head of Ghia design studio when he designed the Pantera. Tom married an Italian wife, created Tjaarda Design Studio and lived in Italy until he died. The design in the DeTomaso logo is an Egyptian “I” for Alexandro’s wife named Isabella.

Anybody who sheds a tear over a Pantera is okay with me. This one hit home. My Dad brought home his '72 Pantera when I was 8 years old in 1980. I still remember that night very clearly. I saw the headlights turn into the driveway and as he pulled into the garage, the windows shook. That's when I fell in love with that car. I lost my Dad several years ago, but I'm blessed to get a reminder of him everyday with his Pantera in my garage. I would normally be a little disappointed to see a highly modified '71 push-button car, but after seeing it, hearing it and listening to Shad Bruce talk about it, I get it. Well done.

My dad had a red and black Pantera back in the early eighties when I was 5 as well. This was in Longwood (what is now called Wekiva), Florida. He bought one that had crashed in a snow bank on the Autobahn. He picked it up in California and we drove it on a trailer back to Florida where he restored it. We had to go up on a mountain in the sierra Nevada mountains and back the trailer down a skinny one way mountain road with high cliffs that dropped off just off the shoulder of the road. That was so terrifying of a ride for me. I was riding up in this little space above the front seats of the blue conversion van we were driving. But boy was that Pantera loud. It made me feel SO COOL when we would pull up at my elementary school to drop me off & at the end of the day he came to the parent pick up line . Everyone thought it was a red Ferrari. I was like “nope, that’s my dad & he drives a Pantera). I got to tell all my friends about my dad who’s a fighter pilot and a race car driver… cuz he was. Well he was those as well as a computer programmer. I miss my Dad ♾️❤️♾️. Thanks for this video!

The flower teared me up a bit. I also carry a pink flower on the roll cage of my '86 Ramcharger, the truck the wife and I took on our honeymoon. The flower is one that I saved from her final resting place. The old RC has a special place in my heart, and rebuilding it over the last four years helped keep me sane during that very trying time.
She's the one that named the truck 'ol Bumpy, and that will get lettered into the pinstripe when the fresh paint goes on. Attachments to vehicles is something non car people will never get. Even some car people don't get it I suppose. But enough of that. Great episode as always Nicole and crew. And a fantastic build Shad, well done.

Lived on Vashon Island, Washington as a kid. Walking down the road as I often did and this yellow Pantera pulled up alongside and the driver called my name and said that he knew my dad. He told me to get in and he'd give me a ride home.
It was so low, I could see the motor in the rear window. He gave it the beans and we were flying, it was so loud, so brutal. He dropped me off at my house and told me to say hi to my dad for him.

I love that you finally lived your life long dream while paying homage to your dad. You drove it very well also! I know what it's like to drive a 550 Maranello with the owner riding shotgun (I also held the clutch in and Jim wasn't a fan of that either). (That was actually quite a story.) I grew up in Kansas City back in the 60s and 70s during the heyday of muscle cars and had a beast of a Camaro. Was great friends with a family that lived around the corner. Their father was a doctor and former race car driver. His best friend was Leonard Yonke, who owned a Chevy dealership in Pender, Nebraska, and raced a Mark IV McLaren in the CanAm series. Leonard would get wind of all sorts of exotic vehicles that Doc Rollins acquired over the years. A Lotus Europa, an AMC AMX-Trans Am, etc. The rarest of the bunch was a 1968 DeTomaso Mangusta, the predecessor of the Panteras. I drove it one time, and it was an incredible experience driving the first mid-engine Italian car with a rumbling Ford 302 sitting right behind you.
