      @user-do2ev2hr7h 3 роки тому +18

      At the time this episode was made, the in universe assumption was that the Klingons always looked like their movie/TNG style makeup design. TBH as much as the Enterprise storyline officially reconciling the two was a fun bit of fan service, I think that was probably the right choice.

      @@TheTurnipKing Yeah but that was kind of a canon breaking (or at least bending) joke episode. Personally I've always felt that while they were re-compositing the DS9 actors into the old footage, they should have just gotten a bunch of extras and dressed them up in the TOS Klingon uniforms with the modern makeup to replace the original actors.
      I know it's a controversial position, but I've always felt it's a bit tedious to try to shoehorn in in universe explanations for things that are obviously real world production issues.

    • @christopherg2347
      @christopherg2347 3 роки тому +12

      The original reason for the ridgeless klingons was lack of makeup budget. It is the same reason the Borg ended up as Cyborgs, rather then insectoids as planned.
      In "The Motion Picture" was the first time they had the money for proper makeup and they have used the design ever since - with the usual variations.
      "Trials and Tribblelations" could have choosen just to have Worf look like their contemporaries in the past. They did most of the shooting on TOS era film material and TOS lighting, so it would not have been a filmographic stretch.
      But they choose to aknowledge the difference instead, resulting in the need for the ENT Episode that explained it.

    I feel like had Worf not proposed his novel and theatrical trick, it makes me wonder what the more conventional alternative would be. Engage them head on, explain the situation whilst noting that you have no expectation that they will believe nor comply, appeal to their sense of honour when they inevitably fight against overwhelming odds anyway (disabling only their weapons and warp capability, then let them sit tight and wait for the other Klingon ship to arrive. So long as they're no so offended that they actually commit ritual suicide first (is that a thing for klingons?), then it'd just be a case of tailing some grouchy klingons stranded in space.

    Don't get me wrong here ... love Star Trek TNG, and while I realize budget constraints often made for some cheap looking scenes it is hard to forgive when they make logistical errors as they did in this scene. Picard says to magnify 100x, which implies the Klingon ship is several light years away. As we all know, ship scanners can get information on ships dozens of light years away.
    And yet, despite the seemingly faraway distance which forced Capt Picard to order 100x magnification, the Klingon ship was able to shoot photon torpedoes at the Enterprise and either hit directly or detonate close enough for the ship to feel the shockwave. Suffice it to say, I grew up on TNG and love the show despite these mistakes.

    So what was the Klingon's plan? Have a crew drift for 100 years and wake up after the war is probably over?

    • @NYCZ31
      @NYCZ31 Рік тому

      Send out sleeper ships that (with warp tech at the time) would take awhile to reach deep into Federation Space, keeping mostly inactive to avoid detection. They would then wake up deep in the federation rear, cause havoc, causing starfleet to divert a large number of ships from the front to deal with them. The war may have been stalemated at the time and the Klingons thought this a way to break the stalemate.

    Star trek loved to forget about being able to disable ships..... all you had to do was drop their shields and beam them to the brig. or just destroy their engines and send a klingon vessel to scoop them up.
