    You are the first one I see on youtube to talk about peaks and valleys cutting. This makes me understand the idea of point cutting in a clear way

    I appreciate understanding the difference if you are cutting the ends with peaks and valleys. but Is there really a difference in layers cut with blunt ends vertically vs cutting blunt horizontal layer? Thank you very much for your videos. They are very well done.

    I have naturally medium curly hair which I wear both straight (flat iron or blow dry) and curly. I like to keep long layers in my hair but I'm not a fan or vertical cutting or what they call texturizing because on curly hair that technique equals frizz. I always tell the stylist I want blunt ends. They say yes, ok but then proceed to cut the very way I ask them not to! Please tell me how to communicate this to my stylist. I have had three consecutive hair cuts I do not like!

      Are you looking to keep the ends of your hair look blunt? There are many ways to layer hair but still keep the ends thick and blunt rather than leaving them thin and wispy.

    Follow up re Elsa Haas comments. Do you have any videos for properly cutting wavy, frizzy, shoulder length hair? I, too, ask for no texturing or shattered edges and that’s all they know how to do. I’m giving up and gonna grab the scissors myself. Help!

    Hi I have curly hair from the root and my hair has always been okay in a bob style but my hairdressers boss said to her to snip upwards into the ends when dry.....now my hair looks 2 inches ( or more) thick at the bottom 😞 its cut too short to have it cut again 😞

    • @samvillahair
      @samvillahair  6 років тому +1

      Sorry to hear that! It sounds like the texturizing from the point cutting might have caused your curl to expand... that can happen if the texturizing is too aggressive.

    back in my day we were taught to check our cuts the opposite way ...so if we cut vertical we then checked horizintal..... so it didn't make a difference in how we layered the hair ....again I say back in my day ...which is more then 20 yrs ago lol uggghhh time flys

      Amy Warr well it makes sence then lol ... so is don't understand how cutting layers one way is different from the other way .... it confused me cuz we always checked the opposite ... so either way would be the same ......am I making sence or do I just sound crazy hahhaha

      I was trained seven years ago at college but trained by someone else quite a few years before that and I was taught to check it horizontally as well not guess it is right and just start chopping at it.

      I think there is not any difference if cutting angle is same. but I want to know true answer.

  • @jaquosh1576
    @jaquosh1576 4 роки тому

    I don't understand what you mean. I learnt, that you take the comb line vertical or horizontal, and what you had were both horizontal lines......

    • @samvillahair
      @samvillahair  4 роки тому

      I think it's just a difference in terminology and how we are taught to see sections or cutting lines. At :36 seconds in, Andrew takes a section that goes up and down on the head which we would refer to as vertical. At 1:21, he takes a section from front to back on the head which we refer to as a horizontal section. Hope that helps. Thanks for your comment!

    I have not found any hairdresser that knows how to do either of those methods correctly. I am tired of going to a hairdresser, paying good money, having to go back for them to fix it , and still coming away with a very uneven and bad haircut. Please is there some one near 01923 that can do these methods correctly??

    • @jarose29
      @jarose29 3 роки тому

      At least you back for them to fix it.. I’m to embarrassed and don’t like confrontation. I have super thick hair and I find someone good and stick with them for a years until their consistency fails.

  • @kayceeleigh84
    @kayceeleigh84 8 років тому

    that would like nice. It seems like doing the peaks and valleys in that direction kind of points the layers towards the face. I guess like a directional forward. Is that true or am I wrong?

    • @samvillahair
      @samvillahair  8 років тому +2

      If you think in very technical terms, it does logically seem that it would, being that short hair tends to influence long hair. To be honest, it's not something I'm usually over conscious of and I haven't noticed an influence on hair direction. There are so many factors that play into the saying "short hair pushes long hair" ...it's not always a true statement. If you are creating a lot of strong short areas with very minimal long pieces, then you may see an influence on direction. Good question, I hope this helps.

    • @kayceeleigh84
      @kayceeleigh84 8 років тому +2

      +Sam Villa Hair Tutorials yes I get what you are saying. After watching the video again I realized it didn't influence it either way and I had just assumed it would. Thank you again for answering me!
