danie.lee yes you should ! I recently just gotten my cosmetology license through a technical high school that I go too and I feel that I would have liked to learn this technique as well along with the traditional way for state board.
Matt, I've been watching your videos for quite some time now. I love that you are polite, humble and modest in your delivery. I am a diy girl and I always refer to YOUR videos. Thanks for your professionalism and generosity.
I’m actually picking my shears back up. It’d been about 10 years and I decided now that I have focus and am still licensed, I want to re-learn. Your videos are definitely helping!
I do 90 degree cuts nearly everyday. It's the best cut on ethnic women in my opinion. This cut creates the best loopy layery feathery looks on black women. It also removes most heat damage equally across the head. Love it! Love throw backs!
I am a barbering and cosmetology instructor and this was the best video I have seen for this haircut. I hate to see a weight line in a layered haircut. You do everything like I do other than the sections. But after watching your video that is how I section it now. So thank you for that. Hopefully my students will pay more attention to your video than when I do my demonstration in class. LOL Looking forward to more of your videos.
I'm currently in cosmetology school. I take my practical today at 1pm and I have been watching different videos on the 90degree cut. I really love your video thank you.
I am learning a 90° right now. The first time I did it was today and I did get a little confused but now I’ve watched this video 3 times and it really has given me more understanding. Love it!
Hi Matt! I know you didn't intend to make this video for state board; but I'm less than a month away from graduating cosmetology school and going to state board. The hair cut has been a big challenge for me and its in the technique I'm using and my sloppiness. I really appreciate this video and all of the videos and info you share with us!!! you inspire me and make me excited about cutting hair, something I was scared I wouldn't ever master. you help me find that confidence to want to practice! Thank you!!!

Enjoyed this video. I am a 20 year cosmetologist re-entering the salon industry and opening my own salon in 5 more days. This is exactly how I cut a seamless layered cut.
I've been a hairdresser for 25 years and I can't tell you the last time I did a 90 degree hair cut! It is good to not only learn new techniques but to refresh your basics from time to time as well. Thanks for your videos they are great for down time aftwr shoulder surgery.
my top favorite video. A year ago i wasn't know how to cut gud layers, but after this tutorial i always cut this way and got a lot of excellent comments. thanks Matt
Im in school right now and i love doing 90° cuts.. I like being different so thank you for showing this video to us. I love your technique and i will be trying this on my mama soon. Thank you muchos!
I want this cut. Had a hairdresser who did it for many years. Haven't been able to find another who can do this right up to shaping and beautifying the end.
Amazing 90° haircut...I honestly haven't done a 90°haircut since I took my hands-on test to get my cosmetology license(6years ago).. I've always thought it was the ugliest haircut because of the front perimeter.. I liked how you connected that front to the back. I like your point cutting technique..diffently going to try on my next client..😍
Hi Matt. This is exactly how I got taught how to do it in college, I haven't done this cut for nearly two years and this video has refreshed my memory thank you x
You really are an inspiration for me. I've been a stylist for 17 years, worked beside the best of the best, but I love how clean you work. Thanks for showing us.
Great video! Funny thing, I failed about 6 long layered classes because to me 90 degrees was from the head but to the person teaching me it was plane angle. So thank for mentioning that and making it clear.
How come I can't find ANYBODY to cut my hair like this? I ask for seamless layers and they look at me like I'm asking for something that isn't obtainable 😐
@@mistyadams1757 definitely do take no for an answer. They may be saying no because they aren’t comfortable with doing that or because they don’t know enough about it. You don’t want to end up leaving looking like a lawn mower got to ya lol.
You are really good, thorough, precise and very high quality. You're teaching is thorough and not boring or repetitive. You break things down so that it's easy to follow and understand. You are a very good teacher, you don't miss anything or skip over, you are concise and thorough in your method. You keep things simple, yet you give a lot of information and very well delivered. However fyi, when you started on the right side the first couple of cuts were out of frame. If you were not consistent and through with you teaching, it would not be able to follow, but because you are good, it is easy to follow thorough and know how to do that step. You definitely know your stuff and are very good.
I was taught this by my boss who was from London and went to Vidal Sassoon academy there, and I've been using it ever since. That was like 20 years ago. It's not hard, you just have to do it every time you pull your scissors away from the cut so you don't poke anyone. It becomes habit after awhile.🙂
I'm not a stylist or a hairdresser or anything like that, but I do cut hair as a hobby. Started out cutting my own hair, which I still do. One of your bob tutorials helped me imensly in getting that shape and volume in the back, that I was looking for (it was all in the parting which also made it a lot easier to work especially in the back!) Now, that cut has grown out and I'm thinking of keeping the length and doing layers. I was contemplating doing basically the exact same thing you did in this video, but didn't have the guts do it as I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. So thank you, is what I'm trying to say. Your videos are highly educational and helpful even for someone like me, cutting her own hair with a $4-5 pair of scissors in front of the bathroom mirror. 😊
Ok I would really love if someone like u responses to this so soon I'm getting layers but normally every day I part my hair differently will I have to stop doing that or will i still be able to
+Galaxy lover girl Galaxy have them cut it to the center part. That way if you flip or wear to one side it will still be seamless. If you have them cut to the side part and then you wear your hair to the middle, one side may look shorter in the layering.
This is so awesome and helpful, I have a job interview today and it was a great refresher on layered haircuts! Your sectioning makes it so much easier , my biggest problem is losing my guideline in between sections.
