    It ain't perfect, but I've been enjoying it. Coupled with investigations, I'll be busy for a while. What do you all think they should add or change to the Guiding Lands or the endgame in general? Also btw another fix if you need a non-tempered part from the guiding lands and you only have access to the tempered is to trade at the melder however for you to do this, you first would have had to fight the non-tempered version at least once. If you didn't, you are soft-locked out of getting this item until you can de-level that respective region, or get help from a friend. Kind of a weird oversight that I hope they fix!

      What I feel the guiding lands could use is just separate monster lures for the tempered forms, or if u already have said lure, give the option to select tempered or regular monster.

    • @Dante-uj5pc
      @Dante-uj5pc 5 років тому +4

      Herny There are several options to fix this. First would be to let you choose a lower guiding land level once you have unlocked higher levels. Second would be to automatically unlock non tempered gl materials for exchange at the melder once you have the tempered versions. Third would be to let you select tempered on non tempered when you lure. Also a system of lure exchanges either between players or at the melder or directly with your handler would be cool

      Capcom have mentioned the idea of changing the Guiding Lands system based on player feedback in patchnotes and IMO something like this would work nice:
      *Give players the ability to control Guiding Lands levels in some way without actual interaction, but of course at the cost of resources. Examples might include:*
      -Being able to de-level Zones whenever you want and gain Research Points for making the sacrifice
      -Being able to level up Zones, perhaps with a gigantic Research Point payment to convert into exp at a bad ratio, consuming Lures, maybe both. Or, instead, with some kind of unique resource only gotten by delevelling Zones

The fun of the hunt is also collecting and crafting all kinds of unique weapons, I main the IG mostly but also use the LS, GS, Hammer and Bow. I wanted to learn the Switch Axe and Charge Blade for example but when I looked at the trees...my excitement just fizzled out. Just bleh, especially coming from GU. It's like a treasure hunt in that game, you have no two weapons that are the same and you are pumped to see what you can make next. This giving you so much incentive to grind and learn a new weapon type, don't get me wrong Iceborne is great but ugh the weapon trees....

      Yeah, I agree. If I had to criticize anything about World it'd be the weapon designs. I'm sure they put a lot of time into the monsters seeing how beautiful each one looks, but half the reason I hunt these monsters is for the better stats and *looks* on the new equipment I'm getting for hunting them. Almost half of all the weapon designs look like they grabbed a bone or ore weapon then duct taped a piece of a monster onto it. One of the biggest examples was the Glavenus designs where they dont even give the GS its iconic design. Hell, they give it to the Palico as if to spit on our face.

    I had something similar happen, my Forest region was the first one I focused on and it doesn't decrease... like ever? But my Coral region which is the second one I started focusing on just punishes me really hard if I hunt anywhere else, like almost half a level.
    As someone who started in world, I love the Guiding Lands, I also saw some people noticed there's a Zorah skull within the Rotted region that may suggest it's built around a Zorah Magdaros, which is such an amazing design choice, I love its details. i wish there was also a snow/elder's recess area; Barioth and Brachydios so far don't seem to be included in the guiding lands, which seems quite sketchy, as in, perhaps they'll expand on it, there was a Kirin cinematic in the trailer that showed him on a volcanic area which is extremely weird since this wasn't in the campaign.

    I'm on PC but have watched a good amount of Iceborne play (including you Herny, TheDinosAndTheDrift here). Like you said, the Guiding Lands overall is an improvement and a solid endgame with some flaws, as you pointed out.
    I think the idea of the harsh de-leveling was, as you implied, to promote more group play. I think the developers hoped that players would focus on leveling one region and then find friends or randoms with different regions leveled up.
    However, it looks to be a bit too difficult to get more analyses/etc. Group play should be encouraged, but solo play shouldn't be *much* more punishing given that the GL are the endgame of Iceborne (for now, but presumably even if MR Kulve comes out).

The arbitrary limit of 3 analysis to investigate also makes it difficult to farm analysis monsters. They should definitely increase the chances of finding signs of turf wars and the amount of analysis you get from breaking monster parts.

If you hunted a Banbaro all your regions will level up a tiny amount because he can be summoned everywere however if you summon a kushala daora, only the volcanic and ancient forest will level up and the others will lower.
    Now if you fight a legiana in the coral high lands that will level up more then the hoarfrost reach since he could be summoned in the hoarfrost reach you will get exp for the hoarfrost reach as well but by a tiny amount

      I actually think this is a good thing. Money in base MHW was made valuable thanks to upgrades/augments just being really, really expensive, but in Iceborne they've changed it so money is less necessary, but as a counterbalance the new endgame activity is all about earning Research Points, not cash, so you need to either sell your hard-earned parts or do traditional hunts for that paydirt.
      Remember that traditional Investigations are still not worthless and that Iceborne has over 200 new Decorations to farm on top of the Guiding Lands endgame.

    It's probably good to note that if you are hunting with others, any lures that they get you also get. For example if someone else gets a Kirin lure, everyone in the party geta their own copy which incentives playing with more people so you get more lures.
    My primary issues with the guiding lands is leveling up regions since it takes so long, the MR caps are also quite annoying and finally, knowing what I need, I've looked up tons of guides for a select few augments since you don't get told until you find them which can take quite some time.

  • @FakeHeroFang
    @FakeHeroFang 5 років тому +6

    And the theme of the issues still largely stems from RNG, who could've seen that one coming? If special track research is going to choose random monsters, yeah they should be popping off all the time. You wouldn't need to decrease area levels as often if they were generous enough with low tier monster lures. Hoping for the chance to fight something you need and never getting it isn't fun. Having monsters like Zinogre being stuck behind rng spawns or investigations is also dumb. There should always be a standard optional quest for regular materials, and investigations should be a bonus if you find one, not your only reliable option.
    I dunno, the game's still fun to play, but it still feels like you don't have enough control over the endgame systems, so you're just meandering about for hours on end with nothing to show for it.

      really you just kill anything that moves in order to increase your mr as fast as possible because regardless of the area lvls because you need to kill everything at least so you know what parts they drop

  • @Idothinkysaurus
    @Idothinkysaurus 5 років тому +2

    I think the perfect way to solve the issue of locked levels/needing to delevel is to just let us decrease the level when we need to. We have a region a bit too high, even by a single level? Open up the menu, press a button, and send it back to level 1. It still incentivizes grinding out a region, because you can need a monster from level 3 but now you're at level 1, and it gives us some more control and lets us get what we need, when we need it.
    I'd also think that it'd be nice if we could lock regions into stagnating in level. Say I needed a ton of stuff from a level 4 or 5 forest, I could lock it at level 4 or 5 while I relevel the other regions. Balance this out by only being able to lock one region at a time, so we have to be sure that we're getting the most benefit from locking a region. We're still grinding but now we can more accurately level and delevel regions.
    I might be suggesting changes that defeat the whole intended idea of the Guiding Lands, but I personally think that they'd be the perfect changes without altering the core grind.

    So, guiding lands. Here’s a tip of how guiding lands work. So basically, when killing tempered monsters you level up slower (in a respective area). If you want to decrease and increase your level so much faster. You need to go to a session with lower level area (lvl 1-3) and hunt like girros or jargras. Break all it’s parts then capture it. I level up my rotten from 3 to 7 in in couple hours just killing girros.

    My biggest flaw with IB is monster health in solo. Its waaaaaaaaaaay too much to be fun, every hunt becomes boring well before the end because if you aren't using a setup optimized to shred a monster, it takes 20-30 minutes to kill anything. I used to main SnS, and then I found Shrieking Legiana. 49 minutes. 49 god, damn, minutes, of chasing that bitch from one area to the next, rarely getting to do any damage because the new ai never lands.
    I gave up and adopted a Spread HBG build for missions too annoying for my liking. I'm a HBG main now and I never even wanted to be.

    The Guiding Lands, as it is now, is the best endgame of any MH game, much better than the Anomaly Quests and armor augment system of Sunbreak (To who calls the Guiding Lands the Grinding Lands, just try min-maxing in Sunbreak. At least, you can do it for all the weapons in Iceborne without losing your sanity) or the Guild Quests of MH4U (please, no more RNG meta weapons and armors). The only improvements they could do to make it perfect would be to make the monsters GL materials rewards instead of drops you need to pick up in the middle of the fight and allow players to have all areas at lv7 at the same time (although the melder does solve a bit this problem). MH6 should take inspiration from the GL rather than MHRSunbreak or MH4U for its endgame.

    I think that they can fix this issue with the levels of the areas by let in people to just level them up and not loosing any level anymore so you collect mosnters trails and then unlock them, that way you can make them spawn and if you are looking for elders then you have to kill or capture certain amount of monsters like "wiping out" the area then the elders will apear to check what is causing the biome "unbalance" (which is the hunter). This way players will collabotare to hunting and fighting the elders together. Also, there is a big fail in mhw iceborne, they not only under use hoarfrost region but completely forgot about it to the point that the biome isnt even integrated in the guiding lands lol, it should be there too, why would you call it iceborne and then forget about that biome later.

I would say to avoid this, use the challenger mantle or wait till their map icon is a red eye and let them follow you back to their main region. For example, lure kulu back to the wildspire, lure rathian back to the Forest, and lure radobaan back to the vale.

    The map should've been substantially larger or they should've given more purpose to the other 6 maps in the game. I honestly prefer investigations compared to the Guiding Lands, mainly because I get to at least see varying locales. I also believe that they should have made a highlands map or something along those lines, in which any monster could appear; I just find that lack of options and alternatives to be extremely dull.

    It’s a wonderful way to implement an endgame, though it was poorly implemented. Compared to previous installments it feels refreshing to have this change of pace, yet the pacing is unbalanced. When hunting for specific parts or items, the variance in combination with relying on rng makes for a tidal wave of frustration. If for instance a host could have some control over whether a tempered or regular version would show up and/or control which region spawns a monster, it would vastly improve the experience. When searching for great spiritvein gems you’ve got a 1 in 5 chance to get the right region, then a 1 in 10-ish chance to get an elder, and then coupled with a rng chance for whether it is tempered or not. Compare that to base game where the variance was based on which investigation you received being the only real reliance on rng, then you pick a specific monster via that investigation and fight it knowing you have a chance at what you’re working towards. Maybe I’m missing something but this current grind has been rough so far.

    I dont like the current endgame, I played until MR72, but there's absolutely no reason to keep playing, only nergigante but just for one weapon/armor type, that I don't need and probably not gonna use is a literal waste of time.

    Honestly I do like Icebornes grind kind of except the fact that monsters are locked behind rank 7 of each area, now this wouldn't be a problem if the levels didn't take so long to get to and to top it off the decreasing mechanic makes it less friendly to play with friends/randoms. Because your going to each be soloing to get one part of the map leveled up and most of that grind you can't play together if you want to level separate biomes because of the decreasing mechanic. Better than Kulve Taroth end game yes, but to say best end game in the franchise ehhh for I like 3U and 4U's end game a lot more~
    Reason I say those are better is because there was more monster diversity, your hunter ranks unlocked new monsters so playing with friends was beneficial and not a detriment, plus the story was a lot longer to~ When you got to dire miralis you may have spent a couple 100 more hours getting to it and than there was plenty to do afterwards on release. Like the silver and gold rath arena new zone~ Plus all the dlc too could be done whenever and wasn't timed, though thankfully they still add that stuff in free which I appreciate.
    Plus the underwater combat for 3U was one of my favorites and I really hope they bring it back better than ever as would give the world a lot more feeling like a living eco system~

    You never have to de level, unless I'm missing something. Check the melder. You can change high level tempered parts and elder dragon parts for low level monster parts, as long as you've seen the monster and collected the part once before.

    Hi henry, i have read some updates about fixing the levels of the guiding lands regions, so it seems like it fixes one of the biggest problems of iceborne right?

    I haven’t made it to the Guiding Lands yet since I’m still getting through the main story but I am curious if anyone can tell me whether or not hunting/exploring the starting locales (Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste, etc.) become somewhat pointless once you reach the endgame? That is something that I’m a bit concerned about after I heard that the Guiding Lands are a combination of most of the other locales.

    I really hate the fact that I got wildspire and forest to level 7 on Friday, I’ve played everyday since, and I’ve had those areas fluctuating between 6.5 and 7 consistently and I haven’t gotten a single tempered elder to spawn in or a gold rathian, I got one gold rathian at mr70 and not one since and I’m mr126. I’ve only fought 3 scarred yians also. Safe to say I can’t ducking stand the rng on monster spawns, I feel very behind for my mr simply because I am not getting tempered elders to spawn in, and if I go do the wildspire to get it back to 7 then my forest will go down below 7 and then vice versa. So I basically have to do only one area multiple multiple times just so I can get a chance at spawning a tempered elder, and even then I need the rng for that one rare spawn to drop me the streamstone I need.. I’m not happy with it, can’t even get brute tigrex armor either bc I can’t level rotten vape without sacrificing my level 7 in wildspire or forest, and if I join someone who has it at level 7 I loose level in my areas anyway

    I really like it compared to just the mhw endgame, I think if you could lock one of the zones while leveling the others it would alleviate a lot of peoples concerns

    11 months later, i gotta say, i prefer MH4U/MHGU's endgames, i dont like excessive RNG and iceborne really adds too much imo, i hope they never do anything on the same vein as safijiiva/kulve weapons ever again.

    I hope they tweak the weaker weapons and armor (not just nerf the strong ones) so you have more options for play styles.
