time code: 40:53 - the architect's conversation is the most important dialogue of the 3 movies. matrix 1.0 = heaven on matrix-earth, with the angel, seraph [asian guy with white jacket]. humans reject peace. matrix 2.0 = hell on matrix-earth, ruled by the merovingian & his monsters. humans reject monsters, magic, & war. matrix 3.0 = the oracles merges good & evil worlds & creates matrix 3.0 & humans accept it, except the 1% which is "the one", neo or nea. because of this, the merovingian, hates the oracle, who had ended "his world", causing him to hide from agents. Merv also hates seraph for protecting her. agent smith hates everyone because he only wants to be, "the 1", with no one left, but himself. despite the chaos, the architect just wants a fully functional program to keep the machines operational... which can never evolve, because of his inflexible programming/personality. matrix 3.1 = neo or nea = weak matrix 3.2 = neo or nea = getting strong matrix 3.3 = neo or nea = stronger matrix 3.4 = neo or nea = more stronger matrix 3.5 = neo or nea = very strong matrix 3.6 = neo = mr. anderson is the strongest & is now able to control machines in the fake & real worlds.
19:40 The oracle is saying there is no free will. Everything can be predicted. the future can be predicted. You just have to figure out the causes. That is why she said Neo already made the choice. It was pre-determined by cause and effect. So if you want to see the future and see what choice Neo makes, you just have to understand the causes behind the choice. Why Neo made the choice. But the writers seemed to have forgotten that the oracle has no idea what happens outside the matrix in the real world. So her predictions shouldn't be so perfect. She doesn't have all the causes available to her. The candy example is perfect. We know the future. Neo takes the candy. But if we knew the causes, we could have predicted the future too. So let's pretend we know all the causes. 1. Neo grew up in a family that loves eating sweets and candy 2. Neo loves eating candy 3. When Neo came to visit the oracle, he was really craving something sweet to eat Because of 1, 2, and 3, its really obvious that Neo will accept candy if someone offers him some.
Of the 3, I re-watch Reloaded the most. I can see why you felt the action sequences are long. But I think of the playground battle as being like a denial of service attack. Because remember how you mentioned the outsiders translating the Matrix code in real time. That's how Neo sees the Matrix all the time. So he's engaging in a mental kung fu with all these programs coming at him at from all directions. Loved your reaction as always and I look forward to you completing the trilogy. 🙂
Another reactor somehow completely misses the scene where Smith overwrites Bane and escapes into the real world. Please don't take this as criticism, I'm just curious how it's such a common thing to happen among so many reactors. While I personally feel like its quite clear what happens there, enough people seem to not understand it to ask the question what could the movie have done to make that scene more clear?
Not sure. I also thought it was quite clear, but I have missed things in other movies that seemed clear. Also, I did not fully understand the dialog with the architect the first time
She was talking about 'Elrond' the first time and didn't notice there were several of him. And making the same joke the second time, so she didn't notice him injecting Bane. Recurrent theme.
12:45 - The techno music wasn’t actually playing in the cave it was basically the soundtrack for the montage of the love scene and the party in the caves of Zion. The song playing is “Zion” by Fluke, by the way. Probably one of my favorite EDM songs. There’s a 12” single version of it (hard to find) which is about 10 minutes long called “Slap It”.
For the highway scene, the Wachowskis had 2 miles of actual highway with on/off ramps constructed, and much of the action was performed by real stunt drivers.
What's fun about the matrix is there are so many different interpretations of it. I've seen many people argue that Neo is just digital Jesus Christ. Remember that he had to die in the first movie before resurrecting and once he did, he had incredible powers that nobody could compete with or explain and he was finally able to defeat the baddies. Oh and he also performed the miracle of flight so there's that as well. Then here, he literally does things nobody else can do and oh, also brings the dead back to life. Of course, this is just one of the MANY interpretations and that's why the matrix can resonate with basically everyone 👍
This in the cinema blew my socks off. That freeway scene is so well made. Interestingly every single painting and sculpture in the Merovingian's manor has his own face. Morpheus dispatching the Twins is one of the most boss moments from any movie ever. Frikkin' love this movie. It's a shame the internet and video games were not advanced enough as this was deployed as a multi-media product with Anime, graphic novels and online games all telling more of the story.
32:00 - Yes, vampire movie - because guys who wathcning it - vampires)) She killed one with silver bullet) They all programms from the older Matrix (vampires, werewolfs, ghosts etc)
The thing i really dont like on this film is how each 5 minutes there is a new "what is something?". They asked so much it got to a point its just bullshit. Its a kind of miracle that the final battle turned into a debate of what is this or that?
There is no spoon. In this movie, the kid says that while in a simulation. The spoon he's handling truly isn't real. It's all in his head, so by bending his own mind, or perspective as you put it, he can bend the spoon.
The Oracle is a program whose purpose was to understand human psychology and behaviour. Then to use this knowledge to help the machine civilization. When she says Neo has made a believer out of her, I think it refers to him fulfilling his potential which the Oracle has suspected humans could have but has been disappointed by the predecessors One's. Speculating a bit, the events leading on from this movie confirm the Oracle's belief that humanity and machines can coexist and this is more stable for the machine civilization, than the oppressive regime it is operating on before Neo's revolution.
I really enjoyed how much you enjoyed this movie! It’s one of my favorites. Some notes on it (btw, it’s chock full of Easter eggs like Smith’s license plate number in the beginning being a bible verse, etc): Any issues with the CGI you have from within the Matrix Reloaded, especially during the Burly Brawl, are explained by the Matrix itself being unable to keep up with this event; this has never happened before, as you find out later, so it's having to drop the level of detail to keep the simulation stable *and* at a high enough frame-rate to keep people from noticing issues with “reality”. The dominos/bowling pin sounds when Neo throws a Smith into a bunch of Smiths were because, again, this had never happened before. The Matrix dynamically picked the sound it thought was the closest match to something like that! Remember, this is a sophisticated virtual reality that’s having to adapt to a new, more powerful Neo on the fly. When you think of it this way, not only does it makes sense, it makes MORE sense than if they picked normal, fleshy knockdown sounds or actually had the modern CGI of today, which I feel would actually look worse. The Twins are ghosts from the horror Matrix (that the Oracle described before the burly brawl -- Smith also mentioned prior Matrix versions in the first movie, like the Paradise version). Persephone shot a werewolf with a silver bullet before the Chateau fight ("notoriously difficult to kill; how many people do you think keep silver bullets in their guns?"); they are also legacies from prior Matrix versions. This was explored more in the video game Enter The Matrix. Some people think that the Merovingian and Persephone are prior iterations of The One/Trinity (“I once knew what love felt like; I want to sample it again”). Bane was the guy in the end shot... the one that Smith took over in a brief, earlier scene (“Oh, God!” / “‘Smith’ will suffice.”) and went through the phone line overwriting the brain of real-world Bane. Bane/Smith then later went to kill Neo in Zion before the kid (from The Animatrix) showed up with the spoon and effectively stopped him. For now.
12:50 I am very glad that you catch the sense of the dancing scene)) Essentially it's totally opposite to metal and virtual world of machines and yeah, celebrating of life before the threat of extinction. Not many reactors catch the meaning of this very powerful imo scene
45:50 - yes, and this is the same guy that Smith possessed at the beginning of the film (at the moment when he was returning from the matrix, via phone) - and he also caused the "accident" on the ship that exploded, which we saw. So, it's essentially mind of Smith inside the human body.
40:00 - Somehow, no reactors noticed that this screens was often shown in the first film from the beginning, with its noticeable image distortion. That is, we were often shown that the main characters were "under glass" (slang for "spyinng") all the time
Regarding the "Good luck, we're all counting on you" line from Leslie Nielsen in Airplane, I read a UA-cam comment recently from a pilot who said Leslie Nielsen was on one of his flights and made his day by actually popping in the cockpit before the flight and saying the line. Classic.
45:06 - In The Bible in Daniel, chapter 2, King of Babylon Nebuchadnezzar has a dream and says "I have dreamed a dream and now that dream is gone from me", that's why Morpheus said it)
28:05 - There’s another way to tell the difference between the matrix and the real world. In the matrix, the scenes are filmed with a greenish tint to emulate the color of the code (the color takes inspiration from text prompts from old school computer terminals), and the real world scenes are filmed with the typical blueish tint.
25:55 There was a game based on the movies-The Matrix: Path of Neo on the PlayStation 2-where you recreate the scenes from the films and it was horrible. The final scene needs to be seen to be believed. Edit: That said, there is another (short) game on the PlayStation 5 based on the car chase called The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Experience and you will not see more realistic graphics outside of going outside.
YES YES YES YES. Now I'm begging you to watch the third one. It's my favorite and it perfectly completes the story. So few people actual even "try" to understand this stuff.
I took my mom and daughter to see the matrix. She was 10 and after the opening scene the look on her face and my moms face is something I'll never forget. I never new Smiths name was Elron? First time I've heard it.
I was sadly someone who did not like the 2nd / 3rd movie when they came out because I got pulled into focussing on the CGI vs the more practical things the first film did. But thankfully over time I started to appreciate the scale increases and that the CGI kind of made sense for that reason and then I could enjoy the continuation of the Matrix story.
There were two PS2 video games. - enter the matrix -the matrix path of Neo The first one you play as characters from the movie, Naomi and Ghost. The second one you actually get to play as Neo. They’re watching a vampire movie because in the game they are all vampires . If I can remember?
There were several Matrix video games made, the last one i believe was in 2021. I enjoy Miranda's excitement when she's getting into a movie, it's really magical. Hope everyone has an amazing day and a Merry Christmas.
This is the best action movie of the early 2000s. By which I mean 2000 to 2005. No other movie in that time frame even comes close. And the fight scene with the weapons in the mansion is one of the best fight scenes in cinematic history.
To me the spoon speech is like alchemy. To change the outside you have to change the inside which is yourself and the outside world will follow. So glad you are awakened.
The backstory of the kid at the beginning that says that Neo saved him (who curiously his name is actually "Kid") is told in the short film "Kid's Story" from the Animatrix. You should react to that also cause it enriches the world a lot and are also very cool and well done productions.
26:47 “isn’t that a line in a movie…I am inevitable.” Yes, yes it is. One of the biggest blockbusters of all time in fact. And if you haven’t seen it it’s time to start down the biggest rabbit hole in cinema history.
The oracle is a program in the matrix that has access to all of the information in the matrix and access to all the brains of the people connected to the matrix. Because of that, she can predict the future by just doing logic. Following cause and effect. So the oracle can think like "this will cause something, then that will cause something, then that will cause something, and this will happen." We can't predict the future because we can't keep track of every single cause and every single particle in the world. But the oracle is a program in the matrix and she can keep track of every atom in the matrix and predict the future. But what is stupid about it is that the oracle doesn't know what happens outside the matrix. So she shouldn't be able to predict the future so accurately because she has no idea what is going on in the real world. There should be some error in her predictions. But the writers of the movie forgot about that.
*"There is no soon"* is indeed about changing your perspective on something, but it is to change the perspective as a means of arriving to a particular outcome.
The guy in the end turned into an Agent Smith clone inside the matrix in the beginning of the film, which basically means that guy is Agent Smith. That's why he tried to stab Neo. He cut himself because he wanted to feel pain in the real world.
Practice makes perfect. I've made so many mistakes in my life, I've perfected the art. Accepting that you make mistakes like veryone else, that is the goal, but the hard part.
Fun fact !!!!! i wore a leather trench coat to the matrix reloaded , and after leaving the theatre i was stopped by the police and searched. they didnt find anything and appologised after i explained i was here to see the movie. i did have a record of carrying weed on me, so fair on the police stopping me. but still.
There was so much philosophical discussion and ideas in this one that rewatches are a must. They just come at you too quickly to process all at once. Still love it though!
28:15 - The Matrix scenes are also all tinted green. The Zion scenes are all tinted blue-ish and have more natural colors. Unless of course you're red/green colorblind in which case it won't make any different.
Consider yourself fortunate to have access to all the information n the 3rd movie. For most of us we had to figure it all out ourselves n wait for the 3rd movie to come out
35:10 Actually, the opposite; they're old and outdated. The Oracle said programs that are exiled are often mistaken for ghosts or monsters by the common people. Their ghost-like appearance is meant to tell you that they're exiles. That's why they're not on the same side as the Agents. They are formidable, but inferior to the now-common Agents; they couldn't even stop Trinity from driving away in a car, something an Agent (with a gun) could easily do.
32:00 - in the lore of the films, it is said that one of the Matrix's was a nightmare world filled with monsters, ghosts and unending horrors. This is because - as Smith pointed out in the first film - the Paradise Matrix where everything was wonderful was constantly rejected by the human brain and they kept "waking up" from it, so the Machines though maybe a "Hell" Matrix would be more effective. This version also failed, though the reasons why are never explained. The Merovingian and his vampire / werewolf / ghost lackeys are all exiles from the Hell Matrix and they''ve used their power in more "real world" versions of the Matrix to live like kings. This is also why the Merovingian doesn't want the Matrix to be rebooted and hence why he wants to stop Neo.
My favourite interpretation of the Matrix is Tilly Bridges' book Begin Transmission, which examines the quadrilogy and the Animatrix through a trans lens. It goes practically minute by minute examining every reference and symbol and how it relates to the trans experience, it's a true work of art (it's a book but also collection of Twitter threads you can read for free if you're curious.) It helped me understand the films, even the fourth which on first watch I didn't understand at all, in a completely different way and I recommend anyone who's curious check it out, changes the whole game :) ALSO, "this should be a video game" it was! It was called The Path of Neo and was released on the PS2, it was absolutely mental in the best way :)
16:00 In science, "theory" doesn't mean we don't know. Actually we know almost everything when it comes to how our bodies work... it's our consciousness that we are still trying to discover. Basically, a scientific theory is the best explanation of an aspect of our reality that can be achieved with the data we possess. We have almost no data left to discover about anatomy, cells, and genetics so our "theory" is pretty much complete. There isn't any conceivable data left to discover that would change our current understanding, so this "theory" is basically fact. Same thing with evolution and other theories related to macrobiology.
You say you would rather trust and get burned then be paranoid. That made me recall a quote from Sherlock Holmes from the show Elementary. Sherlock says "Paranoia is the bi-product of being constantly right."
35:35 No, the twins are some of the Exiles that The Oracle mentioned - rogue programs that chose to hide within The Matrix rather than be deleted. Since they're not working for the system, the Agents would clearly not see them as allies.
"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened." That's a Douglas Adams quote from one of the Hitchhiker books. I grabbed it just to be a smartass about the philosopohising this movie has. But in reading it again, that's actually a pretty good summary of this movie.
29:37 - What the Merovingian is talking about is that he knows Neo is essentially a rat in a maze; performing a set of tasks that the system has created for him. He's laughing that Neo thinks he has Free Will when all he's doing is obeying instructions that the Machines knew he would do because the previous five Ones also did the exact same thing. That's what amuses the Merovingian so much - he's seen it all happen 5 times before and he doesn't want the Matrix to reboot because he will lose all the power and control he has amassed in this version. And that's why he stole the Keymaker. Again, as I said in a comment on your MATRIX reaction video, the sequels are not as interested in telling a simple-to-understand story, they're far more interested in talking about philosophy first and spending the screentime on that rather than explaining the plot or characters.
0:51 - "There is no spoon" refers to the core concept of the Matrix. Everything that is happening in the Matrix, is happening virtually, in code, there is nothing physical about it. The spoon bends, because the boy knows the spoon is not real - after that, anything's possible.
Neo finally realizes this when he wakes up from the dead, it's all just the code of the Matrix and it can be rewritten, reassembled, reloaded, rearranged, refactored etc.
'The shock is all in your head.'
49:19 - Sort of, it's simpler. Neo is the anomalous person that refuses the programming and the machines keep resetting the Matrix to try and understand why.
What's really going to bake your noodle later on is: it's never mentioned in the films if Neo is human, we're only hinted at the fact that the machines can move their consciousness into human bodies and that they are indistinguishable from humans. It's quite possible Neo is a learning program designed to spy on the people who outright refuse the programming of the Matrix and actively fight against it.
... and that code is interpreted by your brain just like signals from your eyes and ears would be without the Matrix, so it's only if you accept the data uncritically that the Matrix has power over you. With the discipline of The One, you manipulate the code, not vice versa.
Exactly. In the matrix the spoon isn’t real, it’s just a projection you are seeing. It’s not philosophy for real life
Eggxactly what I was going to say.
Basically the boy bending the spoon is really the mind of the boy in his pod hacking the simulation code for the spoon in the matrix to make it bend.
It should also be noted that the 'there is no spoon' concept isn't just a matrix thing. It's a concept that goes far back in several ways and refers to the concept that the real opponent that one has to overcome is one's self. For example, in martial practice when breaking the board, it's not the board that's important, it's managing yourself to overcome the board or the brick, focusing yourself is the most important factor, the board will follow.

matrix 3.0 = the oracles merges good & evil worlds & creates matrix 3.0 &
humans accept it, except the 1% which is "the one", neo or nea.
because of this, the merovingian, hates the oracle, who had ended "his world", causing him to hide from agents.
Merv also hates seraph for protecting her.
agent smith hates everyone because he only wants to be, "the 1", with no one left, but himself.
despite the chaos, the architect just wants a fully functional program to keep the machines operational... which can never evolve, because of his inflexible programming/personality.
matrix 3.1 = neo or nea = weak
matrix 3.2 = neo or nea = getting strong
matrix 3.3 = neo or nea = stronger
matrix 3.4 = neo or nea = more stronger
matrix 3.5 = neo or nea = very strong
matrix 3.6 = neo = mr. anderson is the strongest & is now able to control machines in the fake & real worlds.
I never see my parents faces in my dreams. I hear the voice but never see.
1. Neo grew up in a family that loves eating sweets and candy
2. Neo loves eating candy
3. When Neo came to visit the oracle, he was really craving something sweet to eat
Because of 1, 2, and 3, its really obvious that Neo will accept candy if someone offers him some.
Check out MTV's Matrix parody. It largely spoofs this movie.
Agent Smith is inside the last dude on the screen at the end. Agent Smith has entered the real world.
Miranda needs to watch the MTV music awards parody on The Matrix now.
She'll love it.
MACHINES!
The video game did have free flowing combat. It was pretty awesome!
I just realized during your discussion that the One is a perfect example of a bug becoming a feature!
This is the first time the One has chosen not to save humanity... and the first time Agent Smith is unleashed. Something else not planned for.
You're right... Trilogy... Only a trilogy...
8:32 'Every cool sci-fi movie has mechs, let's be real' District 9: Check Aliens: Check Avatar: Check Pacific Rim: Check Robot Jox: Check Edge of Tomorrow: Check
It amazes me how these movies get more and more convoluted as they go on.
"what's our vector Victor?"
ij us died lol
There is no spoon. In this movie, the kid says that while in a simulation. The spoon he's handling truly isn't real. It's all in his head, so by bending his own mind, or perspective as you put it, he can bend the spoon.
I replaced the word Spoon with 'gender' in that little speech which is hilarious.
-I have survived your predecessors and I will survive you.
-But none of the others were Neo.
Ups... yes, they were.
Did that "to be concluded" bother you?
Imagine how we felt back in the day, having to wait 5 months to find out how it ended.
Some notes on it (btw, it’s chock full of Easter eggs like Smith’s license plate number in the beginning being a bible verse, etc):
Any issues with the CGI you have from within the Matrix Reloaded, especially during the Burly Brawl, are explained by the Matrix itself being unable to keep up with this event; this has never happened before, as you find out later, so it's having to drop the level of detail to keep the simulation stable *and* at a high enough frame-rate to keep people from noticing issues with “reality”.
Classic.
I am glad you are giving the sequels a chance. I would also recommend the AniMatrix anthology. It really adds to the lore and builds the world
06:10 "letting you know he's taking hobbits to Isengaurd", laughing my ass off [and i dont care about the spelling]
Edit: That said, there is another (short) game on the PlayStation 5 based on the car chase called The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Experience and you will not see more realistic graphics outside of going outside.
you cant "Roger, Roger..whats my Vector"!! right now... LMAO!!
First time I've heard it.
it was the actor's character name in lord of the rings. it has nothing to do with this movie.
Great reaction! Love the philosophical discussions. Keep having fun and with the great reactions.
If you want to experience it like we did back when these movies came out, you’ll need to rewatch the DVD dozens of times before seeing the next movie.
7:32
Deadpool: "Superhero landing! Must be really hard on your knee!"
Morpheus: "Do you think that's a knee he landed on?" 🤭
There were two PS2 video games.
- enter the matrix
-the matrix path of Neo
The first one you play as characters from the movie, Naomi and Ghost.
The Merovingians were such good over-the-top scenes...loved it. If you're looking for the meaning of life and everything it's 42.
Predetermination vs Free Will, the movie. The Matrix is basically philosophy in leather packaging with slick stylistic action.
*"There is no soon"* is indeed about changing your perspective on something, but it is to change the perspective as a means of arriving to a particular outcome.
Hugo weaving doing 3 matrix films and 3 lord of the rings films in like 5 years is crazy
The guy in the end turned into an Agent Smith clone inside the matrix in the beginning of the film, which basically means that guy is Agent Smith. That's why he tried to stab Neo. He cut himself because he wanted to feel pain in the real world.
18:36 Her face lol!
If you name your car Nebuchadnezzar, people will think you're a real fan of the Neo-Babylonian Empire of the 6th century BC.
Nebuchadnezzar was the Longest reigning King of the Babylonian Dynasty...One of the most powerful Rulers
in the World...(1125-1104 B.C.)...=)
Practice makes perfect. I've made so many mistakes in my life, I've perfected the art. Accepting that you make mistakes like veryone else, that is the goal, but the hard part.
"Thanks Mirandalorian for picking me up from the airport! What car are you driving?"
"Oh the Lexus Nebuchadnezzar"
".....the what?"
A good movie about changing your destiny, sort of, is A Knight's Tale.
Highly recommend Matrix Resurrections. It doesn't deserve the hate that it gets. Very meta and entertaining
Same thing with evolution and other theories related to macrobiology.
you know that cave smells like a fishmarket in columbian summer heat.
You say you would rather trust and get burned then be paranoid. That made me recall a quote from Sherlock Holmes from the show Elementary. Sherlock says "Paranoia is the bi-product of being constantly right."
Trinity is so badass, she is the one of my most loved female character of all time, along side with Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley.
35:35 No, the twins are some of the Exiles that The Oracle mentioned - rogue programs that chose to hide within The Matrix rather than be deleted. Since they're not working for the system, the Agents would clearly not see them as allies.
the architect scene is my favorite in the whole series there are so many layers to it..
I remember when these movies came out for the first time, people had to watch them multiple times to understand them
"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened."
That's a Douglas Adams quote from one of the Hitchhiker books.
