- It's crazy how many Jon Bon Jovi songs I'm not familiar with. His angelic voice, the catchy riffs and just perfection I've seen of his personality and love towards people, how have we not featured him more on this channel?!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Bon Jovi performing "Wanted Dead or Alive" for the first time.

"I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all." One of the greatest lines ever.
Also, Richie Sambora never get’s enough recognition! There would not be a Bon Jovi sound without Richie's amazing voice and underrated guitar playing.
Absolutely! As a guitarist of 35 years I so appreciate the quality of Richie's playing: lyrical, great feel, etc. And yes: his fantastic voice fit perfectly with Jon's! I love singing Sambora's harmonies!
So true. This solo is one of my all time favorites!
Richie's vocal harmonies with Jon (these are more than backing vocals, people) are unurpassed. I zoned out after he left the band. Phil X is probably a good guy, but his vocals can't hold a candle to Richie.
Richie has a better voice than Jon.... check out the acoustic version of this song. Hands down, it's Richie 🎙😎🎸
@@bigbow62 Richie's range was and is limited. JBJ's range was insane though he has now lost it.
Richie Samboras background voice is EVERYTHING!
And his guitar playing 🎸
I agree. I can't believe she didn't comment on his voice. It's so good in this particular song.
@@huntzz21 It's possible she didn't realize the parts where Richie was singing. The man definitely deserves more attention for his incredible talent.
@@Ace2120 Perhaps but a couple of times the camera is close up on Richie as he is singing background vocals so in my mind that is kind of hard to miss. We definitely both agree his talent deserves more attention.
Check sambora's 'stranger in this town'.
The title track of his solo album.
Incredible performance on vocals and guitar.
Blaze of Glory Next. Keeping with the western feel!
I second this motion
nah. Santa Fe. Santa Fe is an undiscovered diamond.
Lead by Jeff Beck
This was my feeling as it's connected to this one. Young Guns wanted to use "Wanted Dead or Alive" for the soundtrack. Jon said that song was wrong (particularly the steel horses) and he's write them a new one. And that's how we got Blaze of Glory.
Dropped in to say the same thing! Blaze of Glory for sure. That entire album is great!
“I’ll be there for you” is a must listen imo
These 5 words I swear to you!
Totally agree
Best performance of this song is John and Richie sitting down with acoustic guitars at the 1989 MTV Music Video Awards and trading vocal lines with this and Livin' on a Prayer. Will forever be in my favorites playlist!
I've heard this live performance is responsible for kicking off the whole 'unplugged' thing.
An Evening with Bon Jovi is still one of my favourite live recordings. It really shows off the entire bands musicianship.
The vocals from both Jon and Ritchie in that performance are incredible, would love a reaction to that. And I do believe it was responsible for MTV starting the Unplugged show.
@@CSTBFO_jad thats how i remember it too , pretty much got the whole myv unplugged going
Yes, this performance starts the project of MTV acoustic by the way.
"Bed of Roses" is definitely one of Bon Jovi's best vocal performances, it's a phenomenal display of textures.
yep
This this this THIS.
Yeah, one of my favourite vocal performances of his too.
I concur
Has to be Bed of Roses, live or studio. Vocal and instrumental masterpiece.
Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora did a live acoustic version of this song on MTV, I think, and that's what gave them the idea for the entire Unplugged concert series. Definitely worth checking out!
Yes this was amazing!
ua-cam.com/video/rWVgbTBlH9M/v-deo.htmlsi=TkPVw0lgPecChpaP
Yes! I'm so glad this was mentioned. I remember I recorded this awards show and replayed their performance so many times! It was absolutely amazing!
ua-cam.com/video/rAiW4jQ-Vno/v-deo.htmlsi=g4i6Pwnv3jaB3NYU
This is the performance i was thinking about, but the other link is just as amazing!
Thanks for mentioning this. I brought it up on her last Bon Jovi reaction - it's so dadgum good.
Bed Of Roses is a must listen
“Runaway” is a cool vocal track because of how dynamic it is!
recorded before he even had a band. The great Tim Pierce laid down the guitar solo. it's one of the most iconic solos from the 80s.
one of my all time favorites
Really hope she does a deep dive on Runaway.
A great song 🎵!!
@@sixslinger9951 Thanx ... You did it for me !! Tim is Incredible !!
In these troubled times, it gives me some comfort knowing that Jon Bon Jovi is still out there rocking faces.
You can find it. He just talked a lady from jumping off a bridge.
@capnpooter but did he rock her face?
Yeah,,old faces.
I'm blown away that you didn't comment on Richie's backing vocals!!?? 😮🤯
Jon is a great singer, but Bon Jovi as a band is pretty mid without Ritchie. Ritchie is a great singer as well, but also kind of mid without Jon. Together, they were magic.
I was thinking exactly the same thing. It's my favorite part of the song. I kept on waiting for her to mention it. 😥
*RICHIE SAMBORA don't get ENOUGH attention. He do NOT deserve this.* ⚠🎵🎸🔊🔥🔥
Yeah seen other inferior backing vocals getting shout outs in the past and Richie's were top notch and really amazing and also pretty obvious
I'm actually mindblown that she didn't mention it once.
Cause Richie's background vocals, especially in the live versions where he usually sings the entirety of "I've been everywhere, (Oh yeah) still I'm standin' tall" takes this song to the next level. And that's before we even mention his intro guitar piece and his guitar solo!
"Dry County" is their epic. While never a radio hit, I think it encompasses the best parts of the band while Jon delivers a killer vocal.
Absolutely agree. It's a fantastic song and I'd love to see Elizabeth check it out. It's probably be an hour or more video.
It wasn't radio hit, cause radio version fcked up guitar solo. And Ritchie is on fire over there
Best song they’ve ever written.
This song and Bob Segar's "Turn the Page" are probably the best two looks at what being a touring rock band is like
Highway to Hell, also.
Although not a rock artist, Chris Stapleton’s “Devil Named Music” is a good one in this vein.
“Sometimes I’m drunk / Sometimes I’m stoned / And yes I get tired of being alone / I miss my som / I miss my wife / But the devil named music has taken my life”
I agree. I also prefer his version over cover bands like Metallica even though I like those bands more.
Jon used Turn the Page as his inspiration for this one; he wanted to write something similar.
Faithfully by Journey!
I was stationed in Japan (USAF) in 1990, and I had missed out on going to their New Years Concert at the Tokyo Dome but was in Roppongi that night with some friends at a bar named Lexington Queen. If you were a foreigner they usually would not let you in unless you had were with a beautiful lady, which among us we had one, plus I am a Hafu (and looked it) and speak the lingo. We got it, were partying it up, screamed Happy New Year, then many minutes later, was in the restroom and some tall. curly-haired American asked me if I was in the Military. I initially ignored him, but he kept talking and then I recognized him as David Bryan, Bon Jovi's Keyboardist. I stated I was in the USAF, and he asked if I had friends and if I wanted to join the group in the VIP section so that they had some Americans to talk with. He stated for 2 weeks now, they only had their Japanese interpreters and publicists to talk with and that their english was heavily accented and they wanted to talk with native english speakers. I agreed and we partied with them until early in the morning. To this day, I regret that I didn't even have a disposable camera on me nor did I ask for any autographs. Still a good memory though.
It’s the guitarist who wrote the song and sings perfect back up vocals.
it's a co-write with Jon and Richie
Richie...
Co-written by John and Richie. The band is called Bon Jovi NOT Richie Sambora.
The guitarist has a name
He wrote the guitar parts for sure, but Mr Sambora is co-writer
I was at Wembley Stadium, London in 1995 and they performed this song; it blew me away, as it did everyone in the crowd. Richie is a beast on the guitar, and Jon just held the crowd in his hands... The whole band had their solo spots, David on keyboards and Tico on drums. The entire concert was a night to remember. And to top it off, Van Halen were the supporting act! It doesn't matter how old I get, that night is in the bank forever. That was a very long time ago. But Bon Jovi will always have a special place in my heart. They’ve helped me through some hard times.
Thank you so much for reacting to this song… Please do more Bon Jovi!
Brilliant analysis video... You’re awesome! please stay happy and safe.
Another favorite of mine from them is "Bad Medicine."
First song I ever sang in karaoke...thumbs up!
I was totally going to recommend this one too!
I still know every single word to that song.
This is the song Jon is most proud of in his entire career. He has stated as much multiple times in interviews.
Dry County is a must. My favorite guitar solo of all time and ALL of Jon's vocal range
John Bon Jovi solo classic "Blaze of Glory" is a must!
"BED OF ROSES"!!! He wrote this, while on the road, for his wife Dorothea. I saw them the first time live 8 days before they eloped to Las Vegas. Another really great and underappreciated song, and my personal favorite, is "Keep the Faith". It saved my sanity during an especially difficult time in my life.
For the drum line throughout, Keep the Faith might be my fave (or at least tied with this one). 🙂
the 90s albums are so underrated.
That is such a boss lyric. “I’ve seen a million faces and I’ve rocked them all.”
Blood on blood, pure feeling and nostalgia looking back to your life.
"Always" is one of the best rock love ballads ever created
I was on a USO tour when this video came out. We were 5 months into touring sometimes 2 shows a day and we were all exhausted.
An officers club in Okinawa had a video jukebox. We probably watched this 100 times. It was exactly what we were feeling at the time. We learned the song off the video and added it to our show.
I still love singing it for people after nearly 40 years!
US Army here. The USO entertainers deserve a ton of credit for what they have done over the years. Always a great show, every one I ever saw, the talent made it feel like it was the best show they were ever going to do, and they were doing it for us. Respect to you, and thank you.
No, thank you for putting your ass on the line to protect my freedoms!
It was an honor playing for the men and women of the armed forces. I played hundreds of USO shows adding up to just over 2 years of touring. You are right. My best shows were at remote bases for a couple dozen servicemen. It certainly felt like the most important thing I’ve ever done in my lifetime.
"Bad Medicine" is a perfect example of how a song should be performed live. Bon Jovi and Van Halen were unbeatable!
"Keep the Faith", another great Bon Jovi song.
How do you not recognize the awesome campground vocals by Ritchie and this one of the best rock solos ever, never mind that face you made during the solo was worth it. This is one of my favorite songs of all time so thank you
I get the impression she thinks it's all Jon doing this. LOL It' s like how most people don't realize how big an influence Michael Anthony's backing vocals were in Van Halen.
Ritchie might take offense to his singing being referred to as "campground vocals" 😜
This song is in my bones. I was a junior in high school, and Bon Jovi was so huge at the time. Walking down memory lane in the 80s here.
JBJ is a real life hero too. He saved a person from jumping from a building about 6 weeks ago in Tennessee.
@@ToxicMan2023 That was in Tennessee, but you're right about him being an incredible man.
I recommend "Dry county", it is definitely the band's creative and vocal peak, simply a masterpiece🔥
You should do "I'll be there for you" next. A lot of emotion and Jon and Richie voice blend is amazing
You must listen to him do: ALWAYS. What a vocal….wow.
Not a Bon-Jovi fan but, this is one of the greatest songs ever written. EVERY musician gets this song. Wow "E", no comment on Richie's backing vocals? One of the best videos ever and maybe the best lead ever.
"Bon Jovi rocks! on occasion..."
- Dean Winchester.
I love this song
Expected to see and not disappointed.
Somebody who can afford to be a patron… please put “My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms” in the queue! Absolutely phenomenal Bon Jovi track that has been practically lost to history.
"Raise your hands" never gets enough attention. It's an epic tune.
The moment he says "I've seen a million faces..." and they show him on stage and then the lights turn on and it is just a sea of humanity that wasn't there before has always been my favorite part of thos music video. Epic!
Honestly not a huge Bon Jovi fan, but this is one of the great 80s rock ballads. Truly awesome song. Loved the reaction! We all felt that way in 1986!
I love listening to your analysis. I sincerely hope that after the camera is off, you sit back and listen to the music uninterrupted, and just enjoy it as it was meant to be enjoyed. Especially such an emotional piece, or like "In The Air Tonight" (I listened to your take yesterday). I understand that you are focusing on the vocals, but there are so many super talented musicians who make the whole piece what it is, so Thank You to them all for sharing their talent, sit back and enjoy!
Jon and Richie did an amazing acoustic version of this song on the 89 MTV video music awards. It may be what started the MTV unplugged series.
Which is something you should do a deep dive of as well. There were some superb performances on there and on VH1 Storytellers series
My favorite!
That performance was one of the bigger moments in MTV's history.
Living on a prayer is Bon Jovi’s quintessential song. Greatest song of the 80’s.
She did that one about a month ago :)
"...Dead or Alive" inspired their "Blaze of Glory" for anthem\video to "Young Guns 2" '90 sequel to '88 OG of Billy the Kid as Emilio Esteves w: bro Charlie Sheen, Keifer Sutherland, & Lou Diamond Phillips!
Billy the Kid slowly whistling...to: Bang!
"I'll make ya famous!" & Emilio Esteves
sly/cool grinnin' with bro Charlie Sheen grimacing!
Nope wrong again
@dewelrivera3305 Youngs Guns director+ asked Bon Jovi to make "Blaze of Glory" for Young Guns 2 because they made cowboy bad boy$ cool w: "...Dead or Alive" anthem!
@@maggedo-x1sNot the band, just Jon. It wasn't a "Bon Jovi" song.
@@itsalwayssomething7490 I definitely do appreciate your input & info, & so I'll wisely research this & respond accordingly...🤔🤞
Wanted: Dead or Alive posters are found in Western movies. There's usually a wind chime or some sort of metal clanging as the wind is blowing when the stranger enters the small isolated town...
I've always thought the 'loaded six string on my back' was an amazing line. That's his six gun and he uses it in every town he visits
What a beautiful breakdown of a song without sharing the actual experience and yours is the best rendition of a classic breakdown I've ever heard.
I'll Be There For You is a fantastic song.
X 1000
X 1000
Singing this song in the car, my wife and I sing the line “I’ve seen a million faces and I rocked them all”. The kids in the back seat flipped from kid music to adult music for the final time. I think this is the exact moment that my kids began to think that mom and dad are a little bit crazy. Wait til we have grandkids. Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher” is definitely in order. There are other great Bon Jovi songs, but none even come close to this one. It’s hard to beat a perfect song.
21:45 shout out to Sambora’s excellent backup vocal harmonies, making some of the most memorable parts of the song
“Always” and “Bed of Roses” are the heart throbs!!! 💓 💓
My brother is in this music video standing under the "Welcome Bon Jovi" sign.
It was filmed in Pittsburgh, which is shown by the tunnel shot.
We used to record Mtv so we could pause it and show all our friends ❤😂
My brothers ex GF is in the Bed of Roses video dancing with Jon. So cool thats your brother!
Jon Bon Jovi is my grandmother!
Lol@@vdub1962
“Always” live at Wembley 1995. Incredible performance.
There's something about Richie's solo in that performance that was extra...just perfection
@ absolutely he was on fire.
@ and the solo in Dry County 🔥🔥🔥
What a joy to watch this reaction from you and seeing how much you enjoyed it ^^
I suggest "Keep The Faith" for another Bon Jovi song.
Yes, Keep the Faith!
You Give Love a Bad Name is my 3rd fav.
That's how we all felt when we first heard it back in 86 :)
Always, live from London, 1995. Just a perfect example to see his powerful voice.
Bonus: the perfect Richie Sambora solo. 😁
Yes! And i was there!!
@@antonyoliver7953 I really envy you! 🤪 That had to be amazing!
Richie and Jon wrote it in one day locked in a motel room. Richie was great on guitar and backing vocals. Richie was the backbone of the band. When he left the band you could tell the difference in the music that was recorded.
I think dead or alive was writing and the house of richie mom... in the basement .next of the washing machine... in 1 day.... jon said that I think in blue ray of 2008 live concert at madison square garden... 🤷♂️
"Santa Fe" is his best vocal performance ever in my opinion. It's a great cowboy song too. Thumbs up people if you agree she should analyse "Santa Fe".
My vote is for Always, such a powerful love song.
When I'm driving and listening to music that I've enjoyed for up to decades now, I hear much more in it than ever before thanks to this channel and others. It's like I'm finding new life in old recordings.
Yes. Thats been happening to me for the last three years.
This is why this is one of the best bands and songs in rock
bon jovi were the first band i ever got into as a kid, thank you for reminding me why i loved them
You need to watch/react to Jon and Ritchie performaning it LIVE acoustically. It is on another level. 🤘🏻🇬🇧🖤
By Jove! They have a bunch to choose from, but my pick for next time: Born To Be My Baby
Might be my favorite Bon Jovi song.
Blood on blood, or for a giggle, Love for sale..
Yes, forgot about that one.
As a performer who is currently doing multiple shows a day everyday until the the day before Christmas Eve, I really connect to your comments about performing and rest. It’s hard to explain to people what a toll it takes physically and emotionally. I always balk when I’m going to a show and someone says “have fun!” Don’t get me wrong. It’s more than fun. It’s the heights. I live for it. But have fun implies playing around and it’s not that at all. It’s WORK!
They're not shivers you were having, waves of shivers. They were chills, and they were multiplying. 🤣
Good to see Jon still has that effect on people.
"In These Arms" off the Keep the Faith album. An amazing song & I think you'd love the lyrics.
So glad that you analyzed and enjoyed my favourite Bon Jovi song. Thank you Elizabeth. Lots to choose from but my vote would be "Blaze of Glory" for the next one.
"Runaway", with propably Jon's highest vocal lines at the end
I thought that was Richie
i saw them in concert and i can tell you his voice is just as amazing live!!!!!
Pretty sure Elizabeth is swooning 😊
"Lay your hands on me " was a great song that wasn't played much! If not , I'll be there for you !!! Love what you do girl ....Keep bringing it, You're AWESOME !!!
Yeeeeessssssss!!!!!! Awesomeness, I look so forward to seeing this ❤❤❤
The opening riff is pure gold!
Runaway, Bed of Roses, Livin‘ on a Prayer, Always
Something To Believe In has a great Bon Jovi vocal performance from both Jon and Richie!!
Gotta check the live version from Richie and Jon at the Mtv music awards. Outstanding!
Yes yes yes!
This is without a dought My favorite BON JOVI song! Thanks LIZ . You made my day.
I'll be at work when the premier happens, but I'll watch as soon as I get home. This is a fave of mine. ❤
Loved it!
I'm certain someone mentioned it in the livechat, but when I hear this song, I can't see anything other than fishing boats and fishermen being tossed about in the stormy waters of the Bering Sea. Thanks, Deadliest Catch!
There's a lot of their songs that would be worthy of analysis, but one of my personal favorites is In and out of Love. Just a really fun song and video.
Mine too!
Bon Jovi is my absolute favorite. I’m an 80’s girl so Jon 😍. Here is my list: Runaway, You Give Love a Bad Name, Never Say Goodbye, Livin on a Prayer, Bad Medicine, Always, I’ll Be There For You, Bed of Roses (the live one where he plays the piano), Keep the Faith, It’s My Life, Blaze of Glory…That’s enough for now 😅
Easily one of the top two songs about cowboys this band has ever released
I grew up with Jon back in the early 70s, we were in scouts together too. My mother and his mother worked together.. Have not seen him in a while.
who remembers Bam Margera summersaulting out of the alley in front of people, jumping up and singing this at the top of his lungs?
Who?
I do.
Rock of Ages with the Mormon girl
I remember Sam and Dean Winchester's sing-along.
I also concur with Dean's assessment of the band. 🙂
@ the best
Thirty-something years ago, my wife and I were camping and at about 1 in the morning, we were awakened by a group of kids from the local high school singing this song at the top of their voices. We got up, smoked a joint, ate some popcorn, and listened until the county sheriff showed up to tell them to shut it down. Great times. Great reaction.
By the way and off topic, we need to make a The Charismatic Voice and Rick Beato meet happen! ❤❤❤
To talk about what? Rick isn't a vocalist and Elizabeth isn't a guitarist or in a band.
@@DruEllz question asked question answered I suppose. Analyzer a song that has vocal and instrumental virtuosity and come at it from their respective skill set and background.

Elizabeth, I relive my youth through you when you discover a song like this that was released in 1986 when I was but 17 years old.
My post suggesting this song got over 1k likes on the first Bon Jovi reaction so the system works. There are some songs that are a better showcase for vocals but this is the ultimate Bon Jovi song imo.
The system does work well that she has for sure.
One of the best rock sings ever. Probably my favorite to sing back when I had rock star aspirations.
"It's My Life" and "You Give Love A Bad Name" are two of my other favourite songs from Bon Jovi!
Seconding these. Those are the usual suspects when I think of Bon Jovi songs.
Yes, please.
Genuinely one of the best songs written & recorded in the last 50 years.
"I'll be there for you", particulary from their Crush tour in Zurich 2000, is a brilliant live performance! additionally, "Lay your hands on me" live from London 1995, I was there as a young teenager in the crowd!
Another parallel to the western outlaw theme is the pace of the music. During the guitar 'slow downs' it feels like riding a horse at a slow pace. When you're an 'outlaw' there's no need to be in a hurry. Every concert is a showdown, Dead or Alive. It only matters when you're on stage, and Bon Jovi is still standing tall.
Add Seegar's "Turn the page" and Jackson Brown's "Stay" and you can begin to get a glimpse of the hardships of touring as a rock star. Moments of glamour scattered between long days of the grind. Great review!
Bed of Roses is the best Bon Jovi song. 👍
I will never forget seeing them performing this incredible track at Wembley Arena, London in 1988 on their New Jersey tour. I had goosebumps when Richie sat on a stool on a darkened stage, a single spotlight on him strumming that iconic riff, with a whole arena holding lighters in the air. Its a memory that will live within me until my dying day. Still brings me to tears even now.
You already did this bands 2 best songs, IMO. I suggest round it out with a rock song, "Shot through the heart".
I'm thinking you mean "You Give Love a Bad Name." Only because Bon Jovi has a totally different song called "Shot Through the Heart." Confusing, I know.
@@brianr3763 You are right. Sorry, it is early here.
And she hasn’t even remotely come close to doing this bands “two best songs”. lol. She’s done two of the most popular ones. There’s a huge difference.
@@davidstratton9918 I did say IMO. Everyone likes different things, so we can agree to disagree.
@@davidstratton9918 Not even that. Pretty sure Always was the bands biggest hit.
If you want another one about how rockers (and other musicians) leave it all on the stage, try Turn the Page (live Bullet version) by Bob Seger. Also Jackson Browne's The Load Out/Stay
Hell yeah! Finally!
.
You should really check out Volbeat. I recommend "Die to Live" or "Still Counting"
The Bliss/ Forevigt as a starter.
@darkiee69 Also good!
