Sophisticated Classic Rock on the highest level. Never heard anything from them that wasn't Top Shelf Material.
When the music mattered the most in popular recordings. All done on tape in studio. Before the internet, before cell phones, before home computers. Think about it kids, study music with a qualified teacher.
I grew up during this time, so I grew up listening to Steely Dan. I love every damn song, but this is my favorite. This song is so bad ass.
Thank you so much for playing my favorite steely dan song ! I think I was about 12 when this came out ? It's been one of my favorite songs ever since ! A big part of that is all the great memories attached to it !
Ahhh, this one is very special. Way back when this song was still all over the radio I had a boyfriend named Ricky. When he told me he was moving out of state this was THE song. We kept it going long distance for a few years but no cell phones, eMail etc. that wasn’t going to go on forever… we lost touch over time until I got an email from him 20 years ago and now we are once again BFF…
Love Steely Dan! More please. ☮️❤️😎
"Not To Be Overlooked".... Jeff "Skunk" Baxter on Lead Guitar. I met him and shook both hands. I always shake both hands when I meet a great guitarist.
Thanks for playing this track. It is one of my very best favorites !
Most musicians love this band. Check out some of their other stuff, Black Cow, Peg, Reeling in the years, FM to name a few
Yes! First song I heard from them. Head back about 50 years ago, amazing how spoiled my generation was with music. Yes, I'm a happy, spoiled, musical brat. 😊😊
HIGH Nancy. Yes we were the lucky ones. My music collection is ridiculous, but I love every tune.
Exactly! I've believed this for years. I feel sorry for those folks who are pretty only into Rap and Hip Hop. Sometimes their ignorance of real music I find shocking. In the 1960's and '70's we were exposed to all types of music. On the radio and on TV. The TV variety shows especially.
It's Jazz; no matter what you want to make it, at its core, it's Jazz. It was in Walter Becker and Donald Fagen's DNA. They shared a similar intellectual bent and manic love for modern Jazz, old-school R&B, and the earliest days of funk. It's a Gumbo of taste, but the spice is Jazz.
When this song came out all of us kids listened to Steely Dan but this song my father loved. I don't know what it was about this song , but it was one of his favorites. This and Charlie Daniel's The Devil Went Down to Georgia . He was a big jazz fan but those two songs he sang along every time.
I start looking around for a number whenever their music is played if you know what I mean!! As always your selections are top shelf in my book!!
HIGH Michael, lets get JM to do this little ditty.....Frankenstein . Edgar Winters Group . 1973
@@AliasMark69 omg yes! Toronto 1974(?) I went to an Edgar Winter concert - my intro to Johnny's little brother - and I was so-o-o blown away! Cheers from Canada & a granny that's munching on an edible 😁
@@CharCanuck14 HIGH.... I'll hit my Pipe in your Honor. Have a Splendid Day.
Perfectionists
Supposedly Rikki was the wife of Donald Fagen's professor when he attended Bard College. He became infatuated with her, gave her his number, knowing he would probably not hear from her. Great song with some nice guitar work by Skunk Baxter.
❤ not sure why this brought tears...teen years was sad I guess. Appreciate you.
THANK YOU FROM BUFFALO, NEW YORK
Both Johnny and his younger brother Edgar were born with albinism. White everything with Pink eyes. Both brothers are seriously talented musically. They play.... Everything. try this..... Frankenstein . Edgar Winters Group . 1973
The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
A simpler song from a simpler time...simply better...
perfection !
So, I wanted to Spark Up My Pipe. I decided I would open your Playlist and pick a long song Live. I picked Santana - "Samba Pa Ti" live in Mex City.... AWESOME Reaction. I almost went with "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock. Thanks again.
The Graphics.... Cool touch.
Hey bro. Another great song from these guys is the song Peg. Trust me you’ll love it!!
RIP Jim Gordon...iconic drum part on this
When you find yourself back in Boston. - "Foreplay/Long Time"
"Rikki Don't Lose That Number"
We hear you're leaving, that's okay
I thought our little wild time had just begun
I guess you kind of scared yourself, you turn and run
But if you have a change of heart
Rikki don't lose that number
You don't want to call nobody else
Send it off in a letter to yourself
Rikki don't lose that number
It's the only one you own
You might use it if you feel better
When you get home
I have a friend in town, he's heard your name
We can go out driving on Slow Hand Row
We could stay inside and play games, I don't know
And you could have a change of heart
Rikki don't lose that number
You don't want to call nobody else
Send it off in a letter to yourself
Rikki don't lose that number
It's the only one you own
You might use it if you feel better
When you get home
You tell yourself you're not my kind
But you don't even know your mind
And you could have a change of heart
Rikki don't lose that number
You don't want to call nobody else
Send it off in a letter to yourself
Rikki don't lose that number
It's the only one you own
You might use it if you feel better
When you get home
Grew up with this, and didn’t realize that music had reached its zenith. Nobody is maki g music like this, anymore.
You heard The Voice, Chaka Khan, My favorite Carly Simon, The delightfully smooth, Anita Baker, Karen Carpenters impressive tones, The Queen Of Rock Tina Turner....I think you should add "The Queen Of Disco". The woman that had millions on the dance floor wearing out their shoes.... The Incomparable Donna Summer, this performance is best. ......Donna Summer - MacArthur Park (from VH1 Presents Live & More Encore!)
They did this for their induction into the R&R HoF
"Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention"..... Frank is among the genius level musicians. INSANE Talents.... Frank Zappa - Peaches En Regalia (Visualizer)
FRANK ZAPPA Cosmik Debris
Frank Zappa - Stink-Foot (A Token Of His Extreme)

Can’t go wrong with Steely Dan. I hope you will try Stepping Out by Joe Jackson when you find time. He’s another great songwriter and musician.
