Hello 911, I heard machine gun shots fired xd. Derek has got fast hands still or even faster. Batatata. Props to him throwing in gaining a groove out of it. So bored of plain brutals, i want to dance while being brutal.
that's how i've always felt about the blast. there is a groove in there it's just played at triple what you would expect. of course some guys are so mechanical and stiff when playing it sounds like an out of control typewriter with no feeling, almost as if they are in a race with themselves.
Love your instructional content @Derek! Big fan since the old forum days :D Question, is there a way we could get the old videos were you did a breakdown for Faceless One/I Monarch pattern back up?
This is 100% a factor in Roddy's playing that I noticed and have loved and admired since first hearing his playing. As a drummer. Hearing that groove on 'Victorious Reign' was practically liberating! Haha. Having the different feels to the blast available, also just so much fun to listen to!
Yeah, blast beats have to have groove. Not many people can get that groove with blistering double bass and blast beats, but when you can its unbelievable
Wow! I've been playing for 37 years. (Not bragging, just for reference.) And I cannot think of anyone ever explaining the Groove in Blast Beats better. I've been trying to explain this for years, but could never figure out how to say it! Awesome video!
You're one of the top 10 death metal drummers for me.
One of the top 10 americans drummers \,,/
Wow this is Great & Extreme he was. A Very Respectful person at Drumtek in 2010 :-) Thank's Derek Roddy :-) .
@3:04 - for fuck's sake, your fills are brutal as fuck.

Ok I will never be this good, but I still love watching these and using these tips to make what I can do sound better. Awesome.

Regardless of what style of music you play, you always need to have groove. It's what connects the audience to the music they like.

Also on the grooving blast beat matter: i really liked your drumming on Hate Eternal - I Monarch.
