OHHH YURRRRRR!!!
Is this real life
Is this just fantasy ?
Is it just fanta-BREEEEEEEEEE
Kmac what you doing here son.
You’ve mistaken guitar for drums mate
Meme lord torsion
Derek's toms sound fucking great with that reverb!
Nah it’s perfect!
Sounds great and powerful isolated. Will probably destroy a mix with a bunch of other instruments layered on
But snare sounds not as good.
I would've closed it out with a single hit of a triangle.
Josh Steffen or a cowbell
or both
Elnefial well they are beating off togather
Hahahahahahahahaha!!!! That's hilariois
Or two bottles of beer clenching together!
Bruhhhh Roddy's thrash beat with the alternating hands/cymbals though 😍😍😍
That's what killed it!
Very creative
Thanks so much to Derek for jamming with me!
Such an incredible drummer.
Who else should I jam with?? :)
66Samus George Kollias
66Samus RUDINGER!
66Samus Jon Rice
Francesco Paoli
Allan Cassidy from TBDM!
True sound VS triggers ;-)
NIck Belozerov no se como la gente no se da cuenta que samus usa puro triggers
@@edwincorrea6987 los triggers son para cambiar el sonido de la bateria, no para hacerlo mas rapido
Can you please tell me Which one is using triggers? I'm not a drummer and I'm just curious to find a difference. But I don't know shit about all this specific stuff lol
Yes, derek drums sound amazing
@@logik4264 Samus is using the triggers, Derek is using probably only in the Kick drums
Roddys kick sounds beautiful
Reuben Chadwick too bad his snare sound like a difficult fart
I dont think non-drummers realize how ridiculous the sequence from 2:24 to 2:30 is.
i pooped a little when i saw that, agreed 100%
Yeah, I had to rewatch that many times... what the hell.
According to the exploding poo in my couch - I realized... ;-)
Nope, they sure don't! Its so damn hard to play even at half that speed!
Imagine playing the guitar, then switching your fret hand mid riff.
Its that crazy.
god Derek's snare power with those blasts. Such a legend. You kept up with the master as well dude :D
"Beating off together" doe.
goddamn derek's toms sound heavier and with more reverb. it makes them more menacing!!
It’s because they’re not triggered
Triggered drums sound plastic
Yeah but Samus probably doesn't have a huge acoustically treated room with professionally fitted equipment and mic placement etc white Roddy does.
2:25 nuff said
0:00 I like where this is going
Why is Derek starting to look like a skinny Ron Jeremy
I thought it was weird AL yankovitch at first lmao
It was his hair ü, he probably showered few minutes before xD
I think that both are really awesome! But in my opinion, the triggers on Samus‘ kit are way too loud, barely any dynamics.
2:25 howwww??????
That fucking trigger sound on the toms and snare.. grating on the ears. Derek wins.
Derek Roddy is a very down to earth and humble guy. I talk to him every so often, it's nice to meet a fairly popular metal musician, who has the same level of humility as his talent behind the kit.
This is a great trigger everything vs only triggering kicks video!
ua-cam.com/video/kIs3YHeYKH4/v-deo.html
Derek is a fucking machine. I've rewatched the 2:24 - 2:28 segment a thousand times and still have no idea how that's even possible.
Same!
He Is using double strokes, First hit on the crash and the second on the snare
Im not sure who won, but Derek has a killer sounding kit.
i always love the mixing on roddy's sound. so grandiose
I prefer natural sounding toms and snare :(. The kicks for the speed its ok though
GEEEZ 😮 2 LEGENDS 🙌
5 years later,
and still OH YURRRR!!!
66Samus vs Nechtan
Timothy McKane
Nechtan would win
@@kultenhughes3585 Netchan is weak as hell, especially on the snare. When he's playing simple rock beats he sounds like an amatuer, snare way too weak
@@cosimofusi2562 Nechtan definitely doesn't have as much power as Samus does but with a MICed up kit it doesn't matter as much. Nechtan will always win on speed, bass patterns, and precision. Samus probably has better fills and power but not that blaring fast speed. I wrote this comment years ago so I will say that I think overall they are equal with each having their strong suits. They're both very good.
Some variation in your snare would make it sound... less annoying?
It almost sounds triggered because of how much it projects.
Well d'oh, that explains it then =P
I'd rather it sound.... real.
Does a coach still play pro ball?
You're right, my analogy was shit. It was merely a suggestion to add a more natural feel to the snare. Good sound doesn't always mean a perfect snare hit. And I'm sure if Samus was so concerned with my comment, he would be defending himself. Even in the EDM scene, some producers implement variation in their drums.
Roddy is still and always will be the S+ tier of drummers to ever walk the earth
I could watch this all day. Amazing job by both of you!
jesus talk about sample city
XD
Seriously how anyone can think that this is acceptable is beyond me. I couldn't even watch Samus' parts
It's so cringy XD what makes it worse is the sample's aren't even that good and the valocities are all fixed and quantized. You can tell he's masking it. Defeats the point of a competition.
I don't see what the problem is with triggering or sampling. The drum technique and timing are all that matter. They're both drumming out their own strokes, no 'cheating.' Perhaps the sound could be better? That's just a matter of opinion. I thought it sounded decent. Keep in mind there are no other tracks to balance against.
The problem is that it makes everything sound the fucking same. His sound is so generic and cringy lol. I can hear triggers a mile away and I'm just like whyyyy?! Why buy a super expensive kit and then use samples?? Makes no fuckin sense
66Samus win !
Derek is my favorite metal drummer. Just watching his feet on “I Monarch” is enough to blow anyone away
I found this very awesome to listen to. Derek Roddy has always been one of my favorites. Hails!
I L U both #nohomo 🤘🤘🤘
66Samus is the weird al of metal
This is so awesome! Love it
Derek Roddy has been for favorite drummer for some time. Definitely one talented man. Sweet collaboration.
nice "Decapitation - Nihility" beat on the first one samus ;P
You should do that with Lord Marco, while both being blindfolded.
both drummers are amazing, uao!!!!
OMG that snare sound from derek. Love it so much
Tight playing both of them with alot of stick motion at high speed
Hey Samus, it would be great if you'd made a video without sampling and triggering. That would be really interesting to watch!
Like if you are agree, so Samus can see this comment! ;)
Suhanovsky Drumming Is it just me or does it look as though Samus's clips look a tad bit edited? Almost sped up a tad? Just look at his hair and bodily movements. Looks like it was intentionally sped up so as to compensate for lack of speed.
What would the point of that be?
I have the same type of hair as him. when it's long that's how it looks when it moves. It's a lot heavier and thicker than it looks, so it actually reacts less but faster.
watch nachtan
I mean, I dunno. I suppose I shouldn't be throwing around accusations either, I'm also a fan. Just seemed kinda like it to me. And what would the point be? Don't ask me. People just do stuff sometimes simply because they felt like it.
yeah those sound like 80s hair metal toms
Incredible that even against a drummer like Derek he looks so fluid in his movements. Such a talent!
My two favourite drummers in one video! Thank you for that!
Brutal. George Kollias next please
Derek's kit is hefty as fuck! But I, personally, like that nice clean punch/snap of Samus. I love it though, love their bands too
Franklin Scott I love Samus but what you're hearing isn't his "kit" really. It's the samples you enjoy, but some people prefer the "fake" over processing. Nothing wrong with that right? Lol.
BurnThePope No, not really. It doesn't affect anybody to use what you find effective, so why do people care so much again?
Derek Roddy was the first extreme metal drummer to inspire me when I bought my first kit. He really is amazing, especially how ambidextrous his playing is. His left side is stronger than my right side.
Awesome performance by both!
I like the other guys kit sound except for the snare.
Spaghetti N' Meatballs his kick sounded like a cartoon character running away
“The other guy” saaaaaake man
You spelled "Derek fucking Roddy" wrong my pal
Damn, can't wait collaboration with you and George Kollias now
Whooof! Super fun & impressive, fellas.
Such a great goddamn time! Had the pleasure of meeting Roddy years back, such a great, kind, all around awesome dude. Do more of this for sure!!!!!
Oh Yerrrrr
Love the video and the skills but damn Samus, you gotta let go of the triggers brother. Your drums sound like the samples I had on my toy keyboard when I was a kid. Go watch Gojira's Standed live at Hellfest video. THAT's how drums, especially the snare should sound.
macleod1592 not everyone has a recording engineer 24/7 to make everything sound that perfect
Mhaenal The Destroyer lol you don't need one. In fact, it's probably harder to set up the triggers and software etc, than it is to turn a few knobs on a mixer.
You know that he can change the drum sound instead of removing the triggers? Using triggers and that drum sounds just makes it easier to define every hit at that speed
i think gojiras drummer is known for using triggers more than most if i remember correctly. this was just a lazy use of triggers there was very little variance in velocity..
I'm not so much anti-trigger....well ok I really am but I'm more anti-sounding like a Commodore 64 game. I know most all the extreme metal guys (except Paul Mazurkiewicz) use triggers but they don't all sound so squishy. A snare should sound like a rifle shot, not a damp sponge.
Oh hell yeah! George Kollias next? 😁
awesome!!! this made my day 😀
This is amazing ❤️
Can't hear the cymbals at all, so why have high quality ones, they just sound like.paper
"dude, St. Anger is an underrated album"
Duxo Durazzo yes
Awesome you both dudes
Was definitely an honor to watch both. You and me Both agree that Derek is another level of power and groove. 5 stars on this video bro.
derek’s snare is literally st anger
aic 92 If anything it sounds like Jordison.
aic 92 XDXDXDXD
That's a perfectly normal snare sound. Listen to something not overly processed/sampled for a change. Here's something to consider:
ua-cam.com/video/hhcxekqZTes/v-deo.html
Samuli Auno just because its normal doesnt mean it doesnt bare any semblance to what lars’s sounds like
EQ-smoove kill em all is probly my favorite record
Eugene Ryabchenko next please!
66Samus, I really love the sound of your drum !!!
Derek is always a monster - nice playing both of you!
Real drum set tracks, ftw. Made those samples sound really cringey in comparison.
If Roddy triggers anything, it's only his bass drum. That snare, and those toms are real, which trumps the other sound. *EDIT* Listening to it, yet again, those kicks are real, too.
Everything is 'real.' Every kick and tom/snare stroke is legit. Nothing is duplicated or manufactured beyond after-effects.
Roddy does trigger his kick drums but he mics them as well. He does NOT trigger his toms at all, in fact 66Samus is the only person I've ever seen trigger their toms and I just don't get it, I know it makes it "sound" faster and snappier but that is what quick toms (short) are for.
Derek’s toms might just be the absolute worst I have EVER heard.
@@richardaaron4454 I've seen sound engineers use triggers for things like noise gating. The triggers, in this case aren't being used to trigger a sample hit, as in Samus' case. It could possibly be that Roddy is using them for noise gating.
wtf 2:24
That's the mighty magic of Double Strokes
RRLLRRLLRRLLRRLL
His balance is amazing, he trains his left side like no one I've ever seen.
Intraterrestrial I had to watch it 10 times to understand it. Still didn’t understand it, had to watch it a couple more times at .25 speed lol
The bass drum sound is literally hitting my ears through my headphones. The speakers are hitting my ears.
Holy shit!
Love.the sound of Derek's drums
Both are great drummers, but boy, Samus could improve his sound. My opinion though.
That's probably because Samus triggers his snare, making it sound very machine like and not too organic. I much prefer his organic snare sound, especially because he gets good power out of his snare without triggers, but we haven't heard his pure snare sound in years, I think. Unfortunate :(
Samples and farts all the way bro!
He's good, but Roddy is far better drummer
I preferred the sound of Samus drum set.
All these Trigger comments smh Without triggers, it just wouldn’t sound as crisp...has nothing to do with their overall skill.
Galactis well, the dynamics suffer, I would understand if only the kicks alone were triggered. The snare and toms sound not so great imo
Two epic drummers right there, blast off!!!
I like this style of drummers!
Dude please kill trigger sound .. its horrible maybe just kicks
aa türk buldum vallaha :)
I,m sorry for the thumbs down :( snare triggers should be illegal, even if mx blended
Don't be sorry dude! I'm not sorry for using my triggers :)
I agree with all of them, except the snare just to be clear haha. And also, you're playing has still been KICKASS for the last 10 years
n/
i feel the exact same way
1 word, Dynamics
Because if you want a better snare sound, you get a brass snare and use a top and bottom mic. There's a difference. Imagine trying to play a ghost note on a trigger haha oh yea, you cant
The hidden boss of the mega man series: TRIGGER MAN!
Cool video. Really cool.
Bravo Samus.
Who mixed Derek's drum sound?! It's absolutely horrible :/
They're both horrible haha
Welcome to acoustic drums bitch
Clickbait :(
Great contrasting styles !! \m/
Sick!!!!!!
Ok, now do it without triggers
Antonio TF sorry sir, impossible
Holy moly, i thought all shouting "trigger" school-girls are already dead
Brody Cates Sarcasm?
Yeah pretty much
Triggers are lame
Derek Roddy is good but he have bad soundmaster
Gabriel THIBAUD he doesn't trigger, it's called natural sound.
Derek = real drumkit
Samus = vst pluggin
Tom Kapral His drum kit is so compressed and awful sounding though. Id almost choose the clichè triggers.
For me both are good drummer but now for me 66Samus is more powerfull for playing metal.
Roddy is much better drummer, his grooves sounds amazing and he's a blast beat master
Two drum monsters. Congrats!
Blast blast & blast!!! Wow!!
Derek's kicks sound like shit........like the typewriter double kick tone that came out of Morrisound on all the death metal releases of the late 80s & early/mid 90s. His toms sound massive, but too much reverb! Not really a fan of triggered drums so much, but overall I still like Samus' drum tones, even though they are fake. Derek has always been a great player, but IMO, Samus has got Derek beat on tightness and fluidity.
Samus kill Derek
Vlad Tepes Draculia not at all.
WOW amazing!
You guys so cool.awesome...
Glorious!
best video ever!
Pure awesomeness
Saludos desde Argentina muy buen video
2 pros at work!
Could watch this for hours! 💪🤘👍👌
i had a blast for sure 😎👍
Amazing
This two is twin.. Crazy twin!
MARAVILLOSOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
this should continue for hours!
Fucking cool!, a true metal legend and a metal legend in the making!!. All the best mateys!
Two great drummer's! I was heavily into the Derek Roddy forum back in the day, he was wise and a great player. Can fool people into thinking he was a country, blues, prog or death metal drummer. This was a good drum off!
