Joel & Bodie Turner were nice enough to be HONEST with me about my shooting and helped me recognize a fault in my system - made this video to potentially help others that might have a similar issue. This really helped me BUST out of my archery slump! Thanks for the support! -Dan

This level of honesty and transparency is so rare amongst UA-cam archers. I really appreciate it, Dan. You're legitimately one of the most down to earth and humble content creators I've had the pleasure of viewing. I'm glad to hear you're out of your slump. Keep hammering. 😂

Thanks for sharing, Dan! I know we all struggle at times. I noticed on my Lift 29.5 that I was doing simular of either moving my face up to string or allowing my front hand to bring the bow back. Switched to 1/2 inch longer mods, and everything feels right. While my Lift 33, the shorter mods line everything up perfectly.

Had almost the same thing happen to me this year. Had a brand new set of A3 strings on my bow. Had just got everything settled and shooting good and maybe only 300 shots on them. I was looking over my bow and found several spots with major serving separation 3 weeks before elk season. Could not get any answers from A3, did not feel confident that I was going to make it through season without issues, so I got ahold of a new string company I've been following, Hooked up Bowstrings. They were willing to rush build me a set and had it to my house in 5 days from contacting them. Nothing more stressful than that situation! Lucky for me everything went on perfectly and literally had to do nothing to my bow to get it perfectly tuned. Ready to hit the hills next weekend to try to fill my cow elk tag and a couple weeks after that I'll be on my big bull hunt. It's my only two tags this year and I'm excited to give it all I've got to get it done!

It’s easy to feel stuck, like there’s no light on the other side of a slump or in my case when you have target panic. But being real with yourself like this and working through it like you have, is the way to beat it. Thanks for sharing Dan!

This is one of the reasons I like Elite bows so much. They have 1/4" DL adjustment and a moveable draw stop. You can dial in the exact DL and holding weight without twisting strings and cables or buying extra parts. Most people don't understand how important having the DL micro adjusted to fit you is to consistent acuracy.

I just did this exact thing this year I went from Mathews triax 28in ATA to the new lift at 33 ATA huge difference there because I have a 30 inch draw and I was shooting 29.5 and I had to tuck my head it didn't feel right at all I figured going to a longer ATA would change string angle and I wouldn't tuck little did i know i was short on my draw and bumped it up to 30 and it's nice and smooth now still a slight head tuck but I have a small nose lol and if I go any further my arm will be over extended thanks for putting this video out everyone has slumps !

Got a lift in January. Went to the bow shop this past weekend and found my bow had dropped a few pounds. They twisted things up and got me back to where I should be. I'm going to keep the match strings on through this season as long as they don't completely go bad. Even with the little stretch the timing was still good. Also, an elk emersion in the south somewhere would be awesome!

Awesome stuff! Amazing to have access to true mentors and a solid proshop so near. I'm pretty solid on my 28" drawlength, but one thing I noticed was...I started shooting with a UV Button and I didn't know how long I felt until I switched to the Stan Onnex Click. With the Stan's shorter neck, my anchor point feels way more solid (like that bone on bone anchor you mentioned) and more comfortable. And I'm not searching for my peep cos there is way less head tilt while anchoring in. Good Stuff Dan! Godspeed!

After struggling with opiates for like 10 years, I finally got clean and in trying to give myself something to stay focused on I bought a Hoyt Torrex last year so I could start shooting and hunting again. And after I buy the bow I find out the shop I bought it from has no idea how to tune bows n I can’t drive way off to anyone else so now I’ve got a brand new bow I never shoot n obviously can’t hunt with it because it’s so out of wack not comfortable with that at all, im just extremely bummed with all of it.

Check out or find a string maker who will make a set with X99. Its a smaller diameter so its a higher strand count and uses less vectran than 452x so it doesnt require wax as often. 452 also uses vectran but has more and vectran absorbs up wax. Ive also found higher speeds with x99 and definitely less fuzzing.

27’s and some ‘special adjustments’ could make it 26.75”. 🤷🏻‍♂️ PERFECT DL makes a HUGE difference for me. I can tell when there’s an 1/8” to much or to little. D loop length won’t fix it due to nose to string distance. Especially since I typically run no stabs and no quiver, and have a 4lb bow, it’s REAL easy to see a draw length issue in your pin float whereas stabs and other attachments can really be setup in a way that covers it up. It’s the main reason in the off-season I shoot without stabs or other attachments. I remember the first couple months after years of running bars it was very interesting. I Worked on form, worked on DL, worked on the shot process, and that pin float was very good. Then if I needed, stabs for a particular setup or shooting at long range I will set that up knowing everything else is money already. Just make sure it’s tuned once the bars are back on and go from there. DL perfection is #2 with proper form #1!

I wonder if the anchor/draw could be induced by the Lift itself. I have the V3X 33 and I can’t rationalize an upgrade when they shoot the same speed and a much stiffer draw. I saw the same, it takes longer to get ready.

But my shop 45 mins out the only one i trust had some new guys in there and didnt even tie in nock sets, and told me i have to shoot it a bunch then come back. Time to get my own press and vise i think…these strings are guaranteed no stretch/separation, peep rotation within the first year. Very frustrating. Need to go back because im going to try a raptor peep for the first time…also didnt like how they tied in the peep just overhands above and under…didnt serve in the peep at all lol first world archery probs

Have a v3x 33 at 85% and 29.5 inch mods, because i was told mathews mods run a bit long, and with side plates it measures 29.9 , but still feels a bit short (im 30 inch dl), so i ordered some 80% 30 inch mods, and now im afraid they will be too long if they run longer then what they say. I love the feel of Mathews, but the adjustability and tuning are a bit behind...

Spend more time shooting your target bow 60lbs, you will learn how still you can get your pin to sit by playing with draw length loop length. It’s crazy and a good way to get reps in. Shoot some indoor and 3Ds with your target bow. Shooting a 300 on a Vegas is probably just as hard as elk hunting 😂

Honestly I've always thought you looked a tiny bit short at 27". I know you have a larger pointier nose than most that can kind of get in the way a bit, but the string could definitely come back further on your face. A slightly higher anchor and longer d-loop might be all thats needed for you to achieve a more "classic" locked in anchor. All of that said, most important with draw length is obviously not how it looks with face contact, its about body alignment and hold. So if you feel good at 27" then rock it. All the best.
