Wow it’s incredible you three guys are the ones that got me started on bows. I’ve learned so much in a year just from watching you three guys. You guys are truly awesome.
I mean I m a newbie, one year 2 months in. I’m 61 I’ve bought everything except a press, draw board, I bought everything almost to make my own little shop thanks to you guys. It’s crazy that’s all I think about it’s nuts!!!
Learning how to work on a bow came from Josh, I have taken my biggest buck to date this year with a bow I built and that feels great! Please keep up the great content! You guys rock!!
Before I retired from the US Army, my spouse established our household in Fort Hood, TX while I was deployed to Iraq. It was awesome returning to the states and having a home to go to right away. Quality spouses, boyfriends or girlfriends are awesome.
I ordered the sevr hybrids for my first archery whitetail hunt. Due to the hurricanes they never made it in time. Used the QAD exodus with phenomenal results. Those heads are awesome. Great podcast guys. And Josh has taught me a lot. Along with a quality local shop
I shot a bull at 65 yards this year with the Sevr hybrid. Broadside and uphill. Went through front leg, and the bleeders were poking out the exit. Bull down in 30 yards. Arrow weight was 435gr, 30" DL, 70 lbs, 290 fps. Worked awesome, also had the Ironwill Wides in the quiver. Sorry to hear your experience, head scratcher for sure.
Similar thing happen to me with Sevr 1.5 this year. 29.5 in draw, 70# draw weight, 470g vap tko, 28 yard shot, broadside hit 4 inches behind shoulder slightly uphill. Arrow barely penetrated and was sticking straight out of bull. Never came out, and didn’t break off. Very few spots of blood. Had a tracker out and never found the bull. Would have been my first elk.
Just changed strings on my bow and had the confidence to do it because of MFJJ. All 3 of you have the best videos on doing it yourself with realistic expectations of the avg hunter/shooter
Omg I love you guys all together I feel and again my opinion when you guys are together it’s the best ever I watch vids separate and there good and respect what each one of you guys do but just something about when your together I really love the chemistry it’s like you each bring the best out of each other .loved the content ❤
shot a whitetail quartering away with a grim reaper mechancial last season, arrow got caught in the shoulder blade and I couldn't recover it. Last time with a mechanical for myself. 70lb draw 450 grain arrow 31 inch draw length, if you hit any bone they just don't bounce and keep going like a fixed blade imo
48:55 I remember talking with you when I was selling bows in the early 2010’s. WA state was one of the only states with a 6gpp arrow weight regulation at the time. Minimum arrow weight at 70# was 420 grains and EVERYONE said that was TOO FRICKING HEAVY. I love where we’re at now where people (all over) are saying 450 is borderline too light.
Great pod cast guys, I like the longer cinematic idea, do the cooking things because everybody uses different things for seasoning, grill, pan fry, cast iron skillet. I know the guys that I hunt with we are always messing around trying different things and see how it taste. Another thing all three of you plus Jeff go to Texas and hunt. Keep up the great work guys.
This trio is incredible! My take on the sevr debacle would be that 1. The fixed blade portion of the head barely clipped a rip and deflected or 2. The pivoting blades caused the arrow to deviate off course.
I’ve shot a lot of head, mechanical and fixed. NAP Thunderhead, Wasp Hammer, Rage 2 Blade, G5 Texan, Various rocket heads, Sevr, Kayuga Gen II Pilot 175, Slick Tricks, a 3 blade mechanical rear deploy by Rocky that I can’t remember the name of, and a two and three blade MeatSeeker. The best head I’ve used so far is the QAD Exodus swept. It makes a huge hole, 3 blade heads make a hole that just doesn’t close, it’s indestructible, and flies as good or better than anything I have ever used. The tip is super sharp for a trocar style head. The elk I took this year had an exit hole the size of my palm. The Exodus is about as good as it gets, and is as reliable as heads that are twice the price. I hand sharpen the blades on them and they get stupid sharp. I wish QAD would make some 1 5/8ths wide replacement blades for whitetail and animals built lighter than elk. Love the podcast, always informative, far, and covers topics that need to be covered
I used a SEVR 1.75 this year. Got great penetration on a whitetail. All that said if I was elk hunting Id probably go to a fixed blade. The deer I killed turned and I hit it hard quarterin too. Entrance rught behind the shoulder and exit just in front of the far hip bone. Deer ran about 120 yards with good blood and was dead in less than a minute.
I've been real happy with my arrow/broadhead system. X-Impact 350 at 26" with an Iron Will Snyder Core system and an impact collar all epoxied in as a single unit. The arrow weight is 414 grains and I'm shooting 60 pounds. This set up was devastating on mule deer and elk both. I'm going to try the Beast Broadhead on the UV 1K arrow on white tailed deer next month. We'll see how that works.
I had a fatal steel feral snap in half, right where the arrow and broadhead flush up together, on a bulls shoulder this year. It was a really big 5x5 I had been hunting for almost a week. I couldn't believe what had happened. 37 yards, 75 pounds, 510 grain arrow, with a 30 inch draw. The window was small but I made the shot I needed to and clipped shoulder.
Had perfect shot at 15 yards at a beautiful buck on Sunday night. Sever Hybrid. Lighted nock perfect center of lung. Recovered first 20 inches of arrow, good bright blood. Lost blood trail after 80 yards, no deer hanging. First buck I have ever lost on a shot like that.
I just filled my quiver with the 1.5 Hybrids this season but haven't had a chance to try them out yet. On the sharpness, I removed all of the blades and just ran them on a strop and got them sticky sharp with just the strop
I've seen Sevr broadheads get only one lung on Whitetail on 2 seperate ocasions. 70#, 30" DL and 525 grain arrow. Broadside shot, right behind the shoulder and only hit ribs on entry. Both deer died but that made me not want to use them anymore. Worst penetrating broadhead I've seen. I've also had some bad deflections with Rage and Grim Reaper. I will never touch a mechanical again, not even for turkey.
seen tons of 450 stop in deer on ribs and 450 is light in my book. the lightest I go anymore is 510 and still use 550 on one and 650 with yet a different bow just depends on what im shooting I will never us mechs. again Ive had to many fail and seen even more fail all my friends now use 500 plus and cut on contact mostly Iron will heads qad and magnus
I’ve been archery hunting every year from 16 to 38. This year I decided to go modern firearm though because of the kids passing Hunter Ed. Hoping it is a good strategy for the long game. I will admit it felt weird carrying that tag/weapon around the woods.
As far as hybrid heads I'm all in on Xecutioner 125gr and Bloodsport Gravedigger COC.. I do have to touch up the blades on the Bloodsport out of the package, but they both work amazing..
If your first arrow was the one you practiced with, the foam dulls them to a point where they are pretty dull. I have tested this multiple times. I dont use the heads i practice with, and i check all my heads for sharpness and touch up if needed before i hunt with them.
I can really appreciate how passionate Dan is when talking about the unfortunate situation with the broadhead. The worst feeling ever. Is there a possibility that the leading bleeders caught the edge of a rib and deflected?
Dan, for what it's worth. The 6 point i shot broadside this yr with a 500gr 3 blade, turned nearly 90degrees and exited. The bull was 32yrds away feeding, and waa hit 5" behind the front leg. The bull never knew he has hit, and only walked 10yrds. I put 2 more arrows into him, because he was still standing. I believe that if you kill enough bulls, you are going to see things you never expected. Chalk it up as another lesson, and move forward. You may never see that again.
I'm using sevr this year and I sharpened mine right out of the package they were ok but I want mine razor sharp, a dull broadheads could do that I'm guessing
Which way was the wind blowing? Did the tail of the arrow get blown off course more than the broadhead, causing effectively an “out of tune” style impact at an angle?
I’m there with you Dan this year I had a bull come running in and he watched me draw and he busted out and I had to guess the yardage and i ended up spinning him and I put 2 more arrows in the bull and I hated every second watching him pass I used the evolution jekle for the first shot, second was the beast broadhead, 3rd was the jekle again
I have became a much better rifle shot since I've started bow hunting. Great pod men. I also witnessed a bull getting shot at 40 yards with a rage expandable. Quartered away . 3/4 hanging out entrance side and lived over night . Coyotes got to him before we could
These three guys are the heart and soul of archery. MFJJ, ElkShape, and Tim Conner are extraordinary archers and I love the fact that they love helping us normal guys struggling with everyday issue the common man faces. Good stuff guys!
I wish I would’ve found this bow thing a lot sooner. Question? Is it normal to think about shooting a bow like all the time, I mean I always think about this bow and arrows it’s incredible.
Boy Oh Boy!! I had a terrible experience with the Sevr Robusto this year as well, and I made a video on my channel about it...People almost crucified me! How dare I question the broadhead!! I suspect that I may have experienced that partial opening deflection as well.
We had guys at work that raced. One small athletic guy. One medium sized guy. Pretty equal comparison. Halfway thru the small guy was just barely behind and said I quote "he's got more top end than me" one step later he tripped and went straight down. 😂😂 we all cried laughing for a long time rewatching the video. To this day the small guy laid on the ground is the background picture on our computer.
YES to not ending with a grip and grin. It's why so many (including me) follow The MeatEater crew. The trophy is just a part of the experience and it's so important to show all reasons why we hunt.
I used the Sevr hybrid 1.5 this year. I shot one deer at 52 yards.. hit her a little high but definitely not spinal... my arrow went in maybe 1/4 of the way in.. blood stopped around 200 yards.. never found her. Wont be using these anymore.
This just irritates the fire out of me!!!! Please join back up please. I am crying right now. This is not fair. You all need to do something together. Think about how many followers…
I practiced with my mech heads and I noticed a lot of debris from the target lodged in the broad head that I had to clean out. Don’t know if you did that but may cause an issue.🤷♂️
I feel like the G5 Deadmeat V2 doesn't get enough love. Same as the Megameat but with only a 1.5" cut, little better penetration with same 3 blade package.
Man I appreciate what yall do all of yall put out great content also I appreciate that yall didn't shit on Texas hunting like so many other and QAD Exodus for the win
Spine of the shaft plays a major role in penetration and deflection which usually results in a heavier arrow weight. The other major factor is equal blades such as a 4 blade which has a equal apposing blades too help prevent deflection. The Sevr is a bad design with the pivoting blades that will contribute to deflection issues buy shifting all resistance or drag to one side, however it is a very tough design just lose the pivoting blades and it would be a winner
Great show. I've been pretty hard on these boys in the past, but i truly enjoy the content, so I guess i need to support rather shit talker when the opportunity presents itself!
Those Sevr's can swing like a pendulum. So did it rotate over and "steer" causing more resistance and angle away from the original vector of the arrow flight? Maybe the rubber band didn't break evenly? Full disclosure I use Sevr 1.75s on whitetail.
Got me totally geeking out on how far you can shoot an arrow! Agree you want the launch and the target area to be the same elevation or uphill. I am trying to think of the best high altitude places I could recommend where I could get MFJJ with the wind at his back and the least air resistance possible. Get that thing 600+ yds
I just don’t trust mechanicals enough to use em, I’m also a short 27” draw and bout 65lbs. And I really like hunting shows with cooking at the end to show how we can expand from our regular recipes.
The sevr hybrid 1.5 broadhead is 2.2” of cut, that is a lot of cut. Still doesn’t make much sense. I took a frontal on a whitetail doe and made what I thought was a perfect shot. Got 14” of penetration and no recovery. The arrow broke off and left 10” inside of the deer. Trailed her 350 yards with decent blood. Won’t take a frontal shot on a deer anymore.. thought I was comfortable on knowing where to put the arrow and what not for that type of shot.. shooting 430 grains, 70lbs, 28” dl and tuned with fixed blades..
sevr semi blunted the tip of this broadhead so that it can get a slap cut for a huge entry and i think that kills penetration. That doesn't get talked about enough. They even admit to it in their recent video about the new hybrid.
Riddle me this Dan, there was footage of you shooting the Slick Trick to 100 and flying great. That seems like a no brainer. 4 blade, tried and true head. Why did you not use it. I’ve had great results with them.
I’m personally okay with mechanicals but I’ve heard & seen more issues with Sevr then any other mechanical. I think the way their blades deploy causes issues. The hypotheticals Josh talked about I think are real issues
Honestly I could listen to the 3 of you any day, all day. The chemistry and friendship is just so blatantly clear.
This is the best! The 3 Amigos back together!!! More, more, more… The best trio collaboration ever!!! Yay!!!!
Wow it’s incredible you three guys are the ones that got me started on bows. I’ve learned so much in a year just from watching you three guys. You guys are truly awesome.

This podcast is best with the three of you guys 🙏 the personality mix is awesome :)

Can I just say it is SOOO great to see the boys back together, just shootin the shit. Love this fellas, we need more of it. Maybe a live version?

Just changed strings on my bow and had the confidence to do it because of MFJJ. All 3 of you have the best videos on doing it yourself with realistic expectations of the avg hunter/shooter
My 2024 ldaho bull went 20 yards with the QAD Exodus. Its hard to find a fault on them, and I've shot many broadheads over the years...

Which way was the wind blowing? Did the tail of the arrow get blown off course more than the broadhead, causing effectively an “out of tune” style impact at an angle?
When you guys do the next broadhead test, you NEED to include the Smith Bros Doom!!!! You'll be shocked at how good it is!
you boys need to hand a couple Mathews bows behind you , eye candy for us to drool over !
It's the dull wings.
Tendons can hang up between the dull wing and blade ,it kills penetration. They stopped making the best mechanical rage 1.5"
I have became a much better rifle shot since I've started bow hunting. Great pod men. I also witnessed a bull getting shot at 40 yards with a rage expandable. Quartered away . 3/4 hanging out entrance side and lived over night . Coyotes got to him before we could

Dan check the spine of that arrow . It sounds like to me that your arrow maybe flexed on impacted
Alone, Elk Shape (all channels) Podium Archer, TimC, Death by Bunjie (crossbow channel) are the only shows we watch in this house. #MFJJ2024
I practiced with my mech heads and I noticed a lot of debris from the target lodged in the broad head that I had to clean out. Don’t know if you did that but may cause an issue.🤷♂️

Josh, organizing videos into playlists would help us find all of your videos.
Perhaps check with ranch fairy, he has excellent broadhead sharpening tutorials.
Tim! Come back to Michigan for late season hunt! You know you want to!!!
Have you checked out Remi Warren’s expandable failure???
The regular Sevr’s are really sharp and have a great chissel tip, the hybrids are different i believe which is odd.
I would like to hear a review on the Annihilator broad heads not a mechanical but still seam like a great broad heads
Man i would look up the LIT nocks by fletch flex. there are 20 bucks for 3 and they are pretty light weight. 18 grains.
You guys need to check out the grim reaper hybrid. Super good penetration, great blood trails and durability.
Please reunite please. I don’t care for the filthy talk but love all yalls show
I think the tip on the Sevr is meant to be duller than most for their stretch-cut.
JJ got to it while I was writing this comment.
I see your fake fire is starting to die out, better put another fake log on it…..😂 awesome episode guys.
Trailed her 350 yards with decent blood. sevr semi blunted the tip of this broadhead so that it can get a slap cut for a huge entry and i think that kills penetration. That doesn't get talked about enough. They even admit to it in their recent video about the new hybrid.
@@ZachCook-rm8zp well thats not great to hear….the tips on all their others were money!
G5 T2 has a titanium ferrule. It's a titanium ferrule 2 blade, that's why it's called the T2.

He’s in a unique position where he gets to try a bunch of different heads. Why not let him?

@@blackbeard0323 he clearly stated he’s non beholden to any broadhead sponsor.

Check out lit nocks they seem to have better string fit than halo nocks and and they are brighter there the only 4mm lighted nock I'll use

Serve has over an inch of completely dull flat blade after its open on each side of the feral
Custom rifles are my language . Mfjj has a sweet setup started
