@BowDisciples I had a freind friend say why buy the course when you can watch him teach online I bought the course there's so much more knowledge on there it's worth the money
Seriously, one of the best videos of information from Joel I’ve seen. His explanations here highly relatable with you and Bri as the test dummies, lol. 👍👍
The more I listen to Joel talk about how to set my back tension and then focus on trigger and execution, the more I understand. The more I understand the more I can do in my own shot. Thanks for posting, you have given me something pretty helpful. I am now hitting subscribe to your channel.
I was always confused about the surprise and punching terms, the clarity of his answer in the first 90 seconds is next level. I cant wait to see what else I can learn from him
I often find myself with the pin below the target. I will try taking my finger off the trigger to bring the pin back up. I always attempt to muscle the pin up in this situation. I never let down, and restart. love listening to Joel, he has some really good insight. Thanks for sharing.
There is no comparing watching someone else being trained to being trained yourself. Joel is an amazing wealth of knowledge. I am looking forward to the Elk Immersion to be announced for next year.
I am on year three with what Joel teaches....it has totally changed on how I execute my shot. He is so good, believe in it...if you can't do it...TRY HARDER! When your brain allows you to leave the aiming room and STAY focused on JUST your release it will blow your mind how "easy" it gets!!
Yup its true. And paper will show that also. It will show the difference in a surprise and knwoing it goes off. Hinge release is super easy.. Thumb button, not so much .. lol Worked that this week with a thumb buttom and its tough.. very tough to get that surprise shot. Simply because my hand eye coordination is on the ball, which makes it even harder.. I sit there for 5 second adding pressure.. if I dont, I know when it goes off.. Might buy a different thumb button release. Using the Tru-Ball Blade. 1" paper tear difference when I know its going off.
I’m really glad I came across this video. I have a really bad time of locking low on the target. But as soon as I put my finger behind the trigger my pin floats to the center and I’ll let down. I’ll have to try not letting down and restart the process when I get back home.
Want to test yourself... with an stan onnex release you can use a firing pin to stop it from actually going off. If you're handed the release and you don't know if the pin is in or not, watch what happens.
Joel keeps doing these videos, theres no need to buy his course now!! Ive watched every video he hes done, and my shooting has gone to the next level from trying his formula.
Agree ..Better than trying new equipment to get better. These videos are both informative and entertaining! Go Phillies!!! 😁 our local news covered Joel’s talks with them! 👌🏻
I would drive Joel Turner nuts. I have mastered the skill of turning my thoughts off. I am not thinking at all. the more chaos there is around me, the easier it is for me to clear my mind. Guys it is scary how easy I can do it. my wife gets mad cause i just set completely without conscious thought. every time i shoot a bow i do this. i go into reflex mode. im aiming, and pulling through, but the rest im allowing my body to do it's natural thing to prevent punching.
@BowDisciples it is meditation. I learned to use this method from a Japanese archer. He taught me the whole ritualistic way they shoot. I even draw over hand like they do. Then when I was diagnosed with PTSD they taught me to use meditation for all kinds of stuff. Ended up doing it so much that I can just go into that state without the breathing part. I get buck fever just like anyone else, if you don't you shouldn't be hunting as that is the rush, then after I enjoy that a bit I go into "the pen state" and begin my draw. I'm not saying I never punch. I do from time to time, but I'm really good at the lock up that keeps me on target. I am still working on the surprise method, and back tension. Mfjj videos with Joel, and some other videos with Joel prompted me to start that journey. It is hard to be surprised though when your mind is empty. That is what would drive him nuts. Basically every shot is a surprise because I'm not thinking about it. My eye is locked on that target, I'm even blocking out feel, building tension through my muscles (back tension), and letting my hand close naturally as I apply pressure to the draw. Your hand will naturally close your grip, and it will happen smoothly creating a clean break. I'm not even thinking of putting my thumb on the button. Muscle memory and reflex does it. To pull harder eventually your thumb has to tuck into your palm. When you let it happen naturally you will get a surprise shot. Here is another thing, your body will naturally put the arrow where you are focused. Where your eye is your hand will follow. I should probably add that I have designated marksman training, and the clear mind is a big part of that training. I apply the breathing and everything to Archery. Archery has so much more than a rifle though. Archery has to do with all of you. Rifle not as much.
Great video, don't let your time with Joel go to waste, even on camera we can see how much better your shots were, now do it for every shot from now on. Ps, don't quit f##cking about though, that's your signature thing. 👌
It’s very hard for me to comprehend the explosion part and the body/ mind has to get set for it. “ bow explosion “ isn’t like a gun explosion at all so what’s the worry? There’s no chance of body damage so why worry about the coming break?

7:50 So many arrows!!! This is like a wet dream for me XD This is the most amount of arrows I ever seen in one spot. This will never happen where Im from o.o We are WAY too tiny. There are more arrows here than there are archers in my entire country lol. He literally has 10,000+ arrows in that shop (jsut this angle). I think there are 10,000 arrows just on the left side row. And the right side looks like they are closer packed. Holy shizz kebab :P
@@BowDisciplesnot a hater been shooting bow for 45 years nothing he is saying is any different then all the pros teach. And Brianna is right you never said that.
I have found that archery has an over abundance of "talk" .... So many people that are "experts" will talk themselves in circles over the course of a few years... archery is just incredibly nuanced and it is a very individualized sport. There are a few basics that work with every human, but beyond that, you need to find your own shot and work on things you feel you need to work on. Too many people these days think they can just listen to george ryalls or joel turner and that will help fix their shot... but in my experience, nothing will help more than shooting lots of arrows. If you want to actually get significantly better with your bow, you need to shoot 150+ arrows a day for a few months. Also 100 good arrows is better than 200 bad arrows of course, but I know lots of people that just don't shoot enough. Nothing any of these "experts" say matters because they don't shoot enough to actually learn to apply it subconsciously while in their shot. Strangely enough, some people I shoot with can only shoot a surprise shot and struggle to shoot a command shot. Its just how their mind and body works through the shot process... other guys I know cannot shoot a surprise shot after 5 years of trying everything in the book... they just cant do it, so they command their shot and they shoot phenomenal anyways. I try to do my best to get close to a surprise, but I still tend to know when the shot is going to break. Its just suuuch a nuanced sport and there are so many variables at play... I always tell new archers to try and learn the "cookie cutter" release style and form in the beginning... and then after doing that for a while they often find their own little variables that work better for them. If you look at the Pro line at vegas or any large event, you will see tons of different shot processes, forms, and release styles.... and thats how it should be since we are all built differently and our minds are not robotic. This is all just my opinion of course... I encourage everyone to do what they feel works for them.
James, I loved that you asked about why the speed was a factor if you were closed loop/and surprise break as I have watched him and wonder about the same thing as u acquire the target well/efficiently. Thanks it was great to hear his answer and wow on that super/crazy slow u did as it was so slowwww! 🫵🏻💪🏻
The fact that we have access to this level of education for free is mind boggling

I absolutely love watching this guy explain shot IQ and the connections between body and brain. Awesome!!

Look at Brianna pulling the good questions out of Joel! She's a smart cookie
She definitely chimed in quickly when she heard something useful. Good on her
She killed it
Loved it, every time listening to Joel break it down I feel like I get something new out of it.
Perfect
This is pure gold - thank you for doing this and sharing!

Just recently stumbled on this account and your content as a new ambitious bow hunter and wow. Thank you!
Welcome aboard!
James you shoot so well and so consistent. I wouldn’t change anything. I don’t think you’re a full blown puncher because you always control your shot.
Thanks Ed

Give Joel the bow and have him show everybody how to do it. If he can teach it he should be able to do it every time .

Stand close to the target and close your eyes and activate the release you will be able to do it perfect every time and feel it.
Yes, and one of them is named Levi Morgan.
Well Joel used to teach pull pull pull now he says not to do that to much input.
