Its crazy, from the reviews and just the look of the stock Quest 2 strap. I was expecting it to be very bad, but for me it doesn't even bother me and fits pretty well. Had no real issues with it besides if you rilt your head to one side 90% and the heavy front starts resting on your nose, or the fact that it just doesn't "feel" as secure so I am a bit more careful to not swing my face around real fast to look around. But generally the Quest 2 strap has been better than expected for me, good fit and doesn't rest on my ears like other reviewers have said it does.

Just a quick note - for the ground you choose an unfortunately unlucky spot, the Senaki-Kolkhi with the F/A-18C. There is something really botched there, it's either the machines on the ground or something in the hangar that is dropping frames really really hard. Usually game works better than that, haven't tested after the 2.7 update yet. I talked about it when I did the DCS in VR on a 3080 vid. Batumi doesn't have this kind of performance problems for example. As for supercarrier - same thing: remove all the airplanes from the deck, and you'll suddenly hit 60fps. I suspect the static F18 isn't optimised well. As for VRAM - when I had 1080Ti, it seemed to allocate around 8 to 9 GB of VRAM out of 11GB available.

Got a quest 2 this weekend. The comfort level is likely its worst feature, the default strap collects all the weight on the back of my head exactly where my spine and skull joins and its incredibly painful after 30 minutes. Thankfully I ordered the 'elite' strap and switched to it after the first day and its a lot better, but its still not what I would call comfortable, I still would prefer wearing an old pot style helmet (and I hated those) over time.
As far as performance goes, despite the mobile nature of it and compression, its a fantastic beginner vr headset. For your money I am hard pressed to see a better set to start VR with, even with the 'elite' strap tax. The inside out tracking also works perfectly, no base stations required which is also fantastic for a beginner setup.
The link cable was sold out and I'm waiting on a proper usb 3.1 C cable, so ive been playing wireless and it's doable but dont move your head too fast. I learned what synthesized frames were pretty damn fast. I'm also playing on a 1060 3gb card... its still playable but I suspect people with less resistance to motion sickness shouldn't apply I guess. I got a Radeon 6800xt in shipment together with the link cable coming in eta 2 weeks so I'm looking forward to see the difference.

Great video. Just a note, the Carrier is the most GPU intensive item on the DCS list. It tends to lag even with my HP Reverb G2 and a RTX 3070. The Carrier could probably be optimized better. I just bought the Oculus Quest 2 and I was very happy to hear that it supports DCS. Further, if it supports DCS with relative ease, I can't wait to see how Arizona Sunshine looks! 👍👍

EDIT: seems to me the bug" regarding the usb cables on teh PC based rifts, is 100% software based as Oculus/Facebook is now blacklisting devices because they don't match updated USB standards. My setup that previously worked for nearly 2 years got blacklisted in august and since then Ive had to buy a 130$ USB card with 4 separate 5GB/channel for my 4 lighthouse rift CV1 setup. i know...old, but the OG is awesome and the rift s is not enough of an upgrade to upgrade. but...like i said, usb worked FINE till august update which blacklisted my tow chip-sets on the USB card i bought that oculus suggested, and my motherboard USB. This was a CHOICE by facebook.

on that x570, you can probably easily OC that ram. you can try the auto setting, but probably best to use Ryzen DRAM calculator and Thaiphoon. I have an x470 and was able to get to 32gb @ 3333mhz and tight cl16 timings. It is cl 18 3600mhz ram, but the x470 limits me with my 2700x. Once I upgrade, the ram should perform at 3600 cl17...maybe I can squeeze cl16 into it...so you should have some room for improvement there...and Ryzen likes fast RAM.

just to let you guys know the ToS says you agree to waive your right to join a class action suit against them, opting to sue them directly if the need to ever comes up. You also agree to be tracked when you're surfing elsewhere, not even on Facebook or in the headset. They track your entire life...not just Facebook related. You also agree to be recorded...both video and audio...and that even though it's for community moderation, you agree to let them use that footage in commercials, and any art you produce can also be used...without compensation back to you.
And not only is it recording your voice and gameplay...the cameras are recording everything they see as well, including your room, and any 'adult' activities you may enjoy in VR. Zuckerberg's going to have quite the dick pic collection. :p
Yes...the Quest 2 is cheap...but it's being subsidized by your privacy.

You mentioned getting a higher performance is related to both CPU and GPU in the system which was said correctly But at the end you just made an upgrade on your GPU from a 1080 to 3090 without touching your CPU. This is why you are not getting the improvement you expected. I wish you could have an Intel i9 overclocked and rerun the same test for yourself. Anyway, I see some people here are thinking HP Reverb G2 will make a different outcome without understanding that a PC based VR still fully depends on the PC processing power and a headset acts only similar to a monitor!

To give you guys a reference on my rating...
*Image and clarity rating of 10 = similar to using a 24" 1080p monitor at normal use distance (more than 2 feet away).
*Sweet spot rating of 10 = The whole lens is a sweet spot.
*Field of view of 10 means you can barely see the edges or borders of the image both vertically and horizontally.
I had the original CV1 then the Rift S. I also currently have the G2 but not had a chance to use it on DCS. Long story. The CV1 Clarity was sh!t (4 out of 10). Rift S Clarity also sh!t (5 out of 10). The Rift S was slightly better than the CV1 and I mean slightly. The main issue is the resolution. It was just not high enough for both the CV1 and Rift S. So far with a couple of hours of use, the G2 is much better compared to CV1 and Rift S. I will be buying the Oculus Quest 2 soon and I will update this post when I get it.
For me G2 is the minimum acceptable level of both clarity and image quality. My initial G2 ratings... The sweet spot is ok not great (6.5 out of 10). The field of view is also ok nothing great (6 out of 10). Overall image quality and clarity for the G2 to me (8.5 out 10). I will update once I get more use.
Keep in mind there are a lot more variables that go into it. Like comfort, sound, mic etc... I'm just focusing on image clarity from a lay person point of view (meaning an average user).

@@orkutozdemirci8767 Sorry I completely forgot about this post. I did get the Quest 2.
My take on it is that picture clarity is good. Assuming you can crank it up to it's maximum resolution. Although not as good as the G2 still. The G2 has better colors and clarity. I have heard of people saying they do not see screen door on the Quest 2... well I do.
The Quest 2 is a front heavy VR. Even with the $50 elite strap I find the G2 is significantly more comfortable still.
The biggest plus on the Quest 2 is that it is a standalone VR and it can also run some PC VR games wirelessly through Virtual Desktop app (this is a BIG plus).
Using the link cable (I'm using the official fiber optic Oculus cable) is also a plus because it's not as cumbersome as the cable on the G2.
The G2 is great for mostly Simulator use (seated use). If you play mainly simulators (racing and Flight) get the G2 and pair it with RTX 3080 minimum for a good experience... I recommend RTX 3090 if you can afford it. It really needs a next generation card (RTX 4000 series?). I'm serious about this. I have seen You Tube videos showing that even the RTX 3090 is not good enough yet for flight sims like MS FS2020 in VR.
Also the G2 has really good head phone speakers. The quest 2... blah it has sound LOL.
The Quest 2 has a much better controller and I like holding it better compared to the G2. The controller on the G2 is huge (the rings). I don't like it. And I think the tracking on the Quest 2 is much better. Also the G2 controllers goes through battery like crazy. It's not even close to a contest when it comes to battery life on the controllers. Quest 2 wins here by a mile.
Both headset requires a very powerful graphics card to run at their best resolution.
Over all I prefer the Quest 2 for the flexibility with an ok display. And the entry price is much better. And playing wirelessly with Virtual Desktop is nice.
      I hope this helps.

Strangely enough I have more FPS on my Asus RTX 2070 (CPU: i7-8700), gpu-tweak show 45-55 FPS in my F-16C, same in F/A-18. My graphics parameters for Quest 2 are: 90hz, 1.7 rendering resolution (5408 x 2736), in debug tool I have 500Mbps encoding bitrate and 3664 encoding width. Also I have 32 Gb of RAM and M2 SSD drives (samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB). Nothing is overclocked, so there's probably something wrong with your system. Hmm, i don't understand why you're not using the Quest 2 to it's full capabilities in this comparison. The Rift S can't do it, but on the Q2 you can go down to 72Hz and enjoy a performance advantage. You will need only 37fps for syncing instead of the full 40fps - granted, it's not that much, but it can give you some latency and resolution back.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. That is all that can be said about that. Anyone who has a loss in their family for disease knows how it feels.
Given that you have a 3900x and now a RTX 3090 GPU, it comes down to efficiency of the convoluted sim that is known to be a bit of a mess.
CPU use was mid teens, GPU use was a high thirties.
    Two things to look at.
What was the single core CPU use at that point? I will assume that one or two cores was pinned to 100% at 4350Mhz and the rest were mostly idle, so I guess a 5000 series would technically do a bit better. If you can get a utility to lock 6 cores of your system off it may boost higher and get raw speed, because the engine isn't going to do any paralized tasks to the level the CPU is capable of. Does they Threadripper game mode tool work on Zen2/3 desktop CPUs? It basically turns off a CCX unit to allow better boosts.
The graphics card wasn't even trying.
The only thing left is software inefficiencies in the engine. We can't do anything about that except wait.
Keep in mind that even a small change may allow you to lock at full refresh instead of 1/2, or 1/4. If you have your headset set for 90/45/22, you might want to set it to 80/40/20 if you can maintain the 40 most of the time, but not the 45. If you fall under by just 1 fps it has to go down the whole step.
Try adjusting the CPU cores access (or run out and get a 5600x, 5800x, 5900x) if you can/dare to.
Try adjusting the sync rate for the HMD.

    • @XCHECK
      @XCHECK  3 роки тому

Thanks Mike! I will definitely test with lower frequencies, see if I can manage higher sustained framerates. And will also look into adjusting the CPU core access.
      Fingers crossed!

    • @jellowiggler
      @jellowiggler 3 роки тому

      @@XCHECK You are welcome!
The 3900x has the following clock speeds: 3.8 base / 4.6 boost. So if you have sufficient cooling you should be able to get it to boost to 4.6Ghz, especially if you are only working 2-4 cores. Maybe a bit higher.
Look up PBO tuning and manual overclocking your CPU. Do not try for an-all core over clock. That is just silly, you are just spending your power/thermal budget on cores you don't need. Your aim is to hit a sustained 4.6+ with up to 4 cores in heavy use, then you can let it down clock at 5-6, 7-8, then 9-10, 11-12 cores in use. I believe this is possible in BIOS.
You can set max multiplier per core.
I just got my first Ryzen so I'm not well versed yet. My brand new 5600x boosts to 4650 on its own. But if all 6 cores are working hard it will drop to 4350 sustained. It only does that under stress test benchmarks though. I haven't played with manually tuning it yet.
