Biggest improvement by far to the dcs engine 👌🏼
If you like to have your mission crash after flying it for 2 hours 👌🏼
@@patrickthornton5053 give it time, it’s an old piece of software
@@justduff634 also true sorry just sour grapes, little bitter about that one experience
Thank you - this was the most helpful comparison I’ve seen so far - for those of us who don’t have the latest hardware.
Glad it was helpful!
Tried out the MT patch yesterday and was blown away by the improvements. Flying the Ka-50 in a VR TTI mission at a pretty sturdy 60 fps was amazing and not something I thought my rig was capable of.
Did you have settings at high and ultra? What VR do use
What is your rig and resolution/ general settings?
@@thurbine2411 I will take a look and get back you!
I'd like to know to my 3070 is still struggling
@@michaelmanski8391 3070 VR quest user here 🤚while I dare say that despite not the best or ultra graphics, the MT mode allows quite a boost in performance, (albeit not much for 60 fps). And with that, it's not just the bit of performance they improved, but the fact that MT tends to have less "sudden 0 fps drop midgame" than normally does. Try to check your task manager and keep an eye on the RAM, last time I got the 0 fps drop was when the RAM was reaching 99% (32 gb ram btw) in multiplayer server (probably due to lot of assets in the map)
P.S = you're talking to the guy whom 99% mainly plays the tomcat (largest vram demand)
And now a DCS sale to boot! 😎
One thing that is often missed is the Frame Timing, now is lower with MT. You can have the same FPS as before but smoother. Keep up Andrei!
That's my main problem at the moment: frame time variance and the number of >25ms stutters, regardless of your average frame rate.
Even with an average reported frame rate of 200+ fps up at 30kft (in single player and after manually changing DCS's internal frame rate cap to match my monitor, i.e. from the default "180" to "360") and 120~140 fps down low, my 1% and 0.1% low frametimes still average out to 16 and 22 milliseconds respectively, with a large variance over the 15-24ms range (depending on the module, map and mission).
It's a bit concerning to see worse frame time consistency and more "hitching" (i.e. more frame time 'spikes' >25ms), not just with the MT version, but on the *non-MT* OB build as well. But I'm still holding out hope that the frametime variance can easily be improved, since the raw average performance capability is clearly already there.
For example, even if smoothing out the frame pacing requires 2 additional frames of lag (as a buffer) and a 1ms overhead, the experience would still improve from a juddery 200 fps reminiscent of early SLI/Crossfire experiences, to a steady 165 fps.
All it would cost is an increase in the average input lag from an already high ~150ms to a slightly higher ~165ms, which ED might even be able to improve on sometime down the road.
Yeah. And from a code clean-up and refactoring this is huge. Support for Vulkan might be the next huge improvement. Not as much from a performance perspective, but from features and a more generic approach. Sky is not the limit... 😀
Thank you for doing these tests. I wish someone would also do some tests covering our WW2 aircraft. Keep up the excellent content. 👍
Great comparison! At this point, for me personally, it's finally worth saving up for VR if they keep these kinds of improvements coming!
Thanks for putting this out. Really like the objective data for comparo. Also the module over module comparison is something I haven't seen very much and I think it's very helpful. Props!
Another great thing, at least for me as a TrackIR user, is the vast improvement in frametime consistency. It's much smoother now, which makes the game feel, well, smoother! Big improvements in the bottom 5th percentile also - no matter how high the average is, if framerate fluctuates wildly, it isn't good. At least in my experience.
The MT update caught me by surprise , I’m glad they released it far sooner than I expected!
Thank you for this very telling comparison !
Performance improvement is great even on first testing release! The problem is the bugs especially with night lighting which make some modules nearly unusable. Not unexpected, that is what testing is for after all. It will be far better....'In The future!!' :)
Excellent video, thanks for the comparison
Went from around 52fps to 62fps in an F18 sitting on a carrier on a campaign mission ready for launch in VR on a 4090/5800X3D and a Reberb G2. Around 20% performance uplift. Still CPU renderer limited. I was hoping for closer to 90fps, but I'll take the improvement!
I was expecting 10% to 20% improvements, but nothing near 100%! I can't wait to see how much more MT can bring! With Vulcan we will truly see what proper optimization can bring with AAA graphics as opposed to the half assed stuff we usually see from AAA games.
Great to see you testing on an older system. Looking at the numbers for the Apache in VR I’m feeling much more positive. Great review as ever 👍
Thank you, Andrei! The squadron I fly with was wondering about VR improvements. Even 2 more frame rate more is better, so we are all really excited! Thanks again for assuaging everyone’s concerns.
Good job
Definitely headed in the right direction!
Thanks!
Thank you dear prichardgs
It's amazing how ED delivered such a stable update, they did it again! Graphics, Clouds, Dynamic Weather, LOD and now MT, my Apache is so smooth!!! Enigma and Blue Flag servers are really playable on my setup now with really good graphics! Amazing work!
And thank you for your amazing videos!
Fpv is really amazing. I cant wait to update my system for that VR capability.
I need to test my Viggen out at low level with multi threading on, I feel the need for speed!
Haven't played with MT much but nice to see that my similar system should see some improvement.
one of the reasons why i quit flying DCS actively and in VR was because Im sick and tired of tweaking this and that to get playable FPS. built a new rig this past month with an intel 13900k, an asus z790 hero, 32gb of ddr5 gskill ram 6000mhz and an rtx3080ti (only old thing in this pc now), and Im seeing (maxed out everything) 100fps in 2d. Ill give vr a shot this weekend maybe, but it better be amazeballs.
I love the MT feature so far, I'm getting 160fps avg. on MAX (for real - anything max) and 2k. Before I got like 50
what are the specs of your pc?
MT got me from 35-45 FPS to 110 fps and even 130 at high altitude, even with all settings on high. This is a game changer and I am very excited to see the future improuvments.
Thanks for the video, I am not computer savvy so how do I do this MT. Was it with the new download or do you have to do something else. I also use a Rift S. Thank you
4:21 that dudes face scared the shit outta me 💀💀
Hahah! Indeed! Sorry about that :P
SSAA is not working in MT atm, so you might be getting extra frames from that. You could try the difference between the 2 without SSAA on.
Bit late, buuuuuut, my old RX580 was bottlenecking with the MT on, so I couldnt get past 35 FPS max in the F-14 on the Syria map, even with lower settings, so I ordered a RX6700 XT, and installed it, and am I amazed, 92 FPS on high settings. BIG improvement!
MT seems the way to go. I like the presentation MT vs non-MT.
It's a shame the VR performance hasn't been improved as much as the flat screen, I am hoping Valcan/dlss will improved the render pipeline for VR as the current one seems pretty awful. I'm now getting 60fps with a RTX 3090 but my Quest 2 is capable of 120 fps so it seems there is some way to go. I will start saving for a RTX 5090!
I mean, it's a nearly 30% preformance improvement in just raw FPS alone, nevermind the frame time differences. An 8 FPS bump is VERY nice.
Will be nice when they fix some of the issues with MT. I haven't been able to run it in VR since the headset wasn't displaying anything running the MT executable. I also saw another player seeing the same issue with a different VR headset.
hi
not that much more fps for me.
but i Love the Mt Update.
Great Work from ed
interesting mostly all test with mt running in gpu limit! (if they have not noticed ergo was "the fps uplift" rather limited by the gpu! which leaves even more room up!)
Hey guys, how can you enable the MT? I heard there is a folder you need to open but i cant seem to find it?
What about the bug in which the airplane is not loaded and becomes invisible? This happened to many people while trying dogfights.
On my system I don't feel any boost. With my 13900k and my 3070ti on 3440x1440p nothing happen. When I set my graphics on ultra low then I think but so nope. My gpu is on 100% on all max and that is why the patch help only when you play on low.
How did you manage to display this window with the FPS in the VR?
while the VR fps increase of ~45fps doesn't seem great that's a ~50% increase in performance.
DCS has a Spring Sale starting today so a good time to buy.
Have you checked if your fps was capped by the coy or gpu in MT during these tests?
Did you record this with OBS? When starting VR in DCS and having only OBS open, it can easily drop 20 to 30 frames. And that's with OBS just open. Without it, you gain a significant performance boost. Have you tried to see the results with OBS closed?
You will be amazed, but I don't use OBS.
@@hipgames haha, good to know!
Definitely need a 2 PC setup for OBS and DCS VR
I actually got a few less FPS in MT in VR. Testing identical settings. Not sure why.
Same here and I haven't figured out how to fix it lol
For VR, can you show you DCS settings?
Mt seems good
Multithreading is a great feature it really is...
How are y’all getting these rates and visuals??? What is wrong with my settings? I have a ryzen 7 clocked at 4.2 ghz and an rtx 3060 running at app 2k with 12 video ram and 32 non-video. I can’t get above 35fps
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I had similar improvements in VR. Not mind blowing, but welcome nonetheless.
I'd love to know what FPS counter you're using - it looks pretty neat!
It's built into DCS, just press right control & home in game.
Similar system for me but 20% increase in VR performance for me on quest 2
SSAA is not working, probably that's helping a bit with the FPS boost (?)
VR or not ...MT is the way to go hands down
how do I enable MT on oculus vr?
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THE CRASHING ON BOOT IN MT
Check in BIOS if you have by chance the Hyper Threading option off and switch it ON
Anyone know why when I run the Standard version the DCS FPS counter says about 80fps and when I run the Multithreading it still says about 80fps, but now it has an additional reading below that that has a Theoretical FPS counter that is higher (Around 120fps)? I have a Radeon 6900XT.
Do you have vsync enabled on an 80hz refresh rate display?
@@Whiskey11Gaming No vsync. I do get up to 150fps when looking at the sky ect. My average is 60-80 fps
Theoretical FPS in MT mode in DCS shows what your FPS would be based on CPU frametime if you were not GPU limited
I got like 20-30 FPS boost but in Syria map still going down below 60 fps in some crowded airports. Needs more improvement.
PS: No VR.
Does MT work on CPUs with greater than 8 cores? All of the YT reviews of DCS MT that show actual core usage graphs seem to be 8 core systems.
Up to 32 Physical+Logical (hyperthreading). Anything over 32 total won't start the game.
@@Whiskey11Gaming hello. Yes, I’m aware what the readme says. What I haven’t seen is any proof that works on 12, 16 or 24 core CPUs. All of the YT DCS MT videos that show CPU core utilisation with MT are 8 core processors. One YzT’er was using a 24 core CPU and said ire emerged great. However good FPS was about what one would expect from a ring such as his with a single thread. My 16 core 3950x shoes zero performance improvement. Hence the question.
Every VR game that has added DLSS has either eventually removed it or told people not to use it. It just doesn’t work well in VR
Rift s ? I get better VR FPS but tearing phenomenon when looking outsideways
Keep getting drops of like 10 fps in low flight level over central Marianas Island
I was looking forward to this, but It's an unfortunate test. As it has been admitted by ED, the SSAA is broken. That is, it has no effect on the quality of the rendering. So, by using a 1.5x on SSAA, you are not measuring the improvement of MT vs ST, you are also measuring the improvement of disabling SSAA, which would have probably given you a higher FPS on the ST version as well. :(
It was the same for me in vr mt mode I got 20-25% extra fps compared to vr st. Until 2.9 came out. Niw it just ruined the whole game for me. Now I get terrible bad frame rate in mt vr. St vr seems also worse but it is still playable. Ed should fix the long term mt cpu bound issue first before adding dlss and such (comoletely useless features in vr). Some people reported that issue early 2023. And still no fix..l
What operating system?
where are the settings mr kakasus?
The settings are presented in the video
@@hipgames searching for monitor settings, dcs and or nvidia panel, cant find them.
Brutal. I just deleted the game because of poor performance. Even on a 3070. 100 plus gbs to reinstall. Maybe one day.
F for respect.
I have max 5 fps increase xD
second
For performance testing and comparisons, it's a lot more useful to present the results as "x% increase in FPS" rather than just say "y more FPS", makes it more applicable to everybody else. A 30 fps increase is very different for someone playing at 30 fps and someone playing at 120 or more. A percentage difference is more clear.
You should still show the before and after FPS results of course, but the main point is percentage performance difference.
The MT VR may have had more fps but it looked HORRIBLE
