7:50 The Quest 2 is not a dual display like you say. The original Quest was, but the Quest 2 is single like the Rift S. That's why the IPD adjustment is different that the original Quest because it only has one display and it actually shifts the image on the screen when you move it to 1 of the settings
This is correct, what this means as well, if your ipd is on the outer limits (i.e. either setting 1 or 3) you will lose fov as you can see the edges of the screen.

@@TheProvokedPrawn great voice mate nothing wrong with it. Quick question I bought an oculus quest 2 would you recommend using the link cable or virtual desktop?
i personally think that standalone and pc powered headsets are two completely different categories that cannot be properly compared, in terms of support, software, and usability in the future , that is. pc powered headsets have tons of support, and probably will never become (completely) obsolete, like the Oculus rift DK2, people have managed to get steamvr full functionality with tracked motion controllers working with this headset, this nearly 6 year old headset can play half life alyx and other great games. And computers can be upgraded, for even better experiences. But when it comes to standalone HMDs, like the Oculus go, support and functionality can be greatly impaired due to developer support, sure you can use alvr, and its basically a pc vr headset now, but its main purpose (use as a standalone hmd) has basically been forgotten by then. I hate that oculus is moving to standalone only, it feels like theyre pushing people into a platform that will soon be quickly dropped in the near future, and considering the main audience for the quest (people with no pc, or a not very powerful one) it kinda hurts.
The Quest as a stand alone device is great, but it made me buy a better pc, so I can play titles like Half Life Alyx and Asgard's Wrath. Even if I play Space Pirates with Virtual Desktop or native on the Quest, I prefer the PC version, as it is so much nicer looking. Unless you will get headsets that can run games like Asgard's Wrath natively without compromise on it, you don't need to worry about PCVR headsets becoming obsolete. I'm collecting as much information about the Quest 2. So far I have no valid reason to change from my Quest 1 to the Q2.
Thank you so much I'm not good with computers so looking for a good vr was extra challenging for me, and you helped my tiny brain decide I think I'm going with the quest 2, thanks.
The Quest 2 uses a single LCD panel. I believe that is why it is challenging to have better IPD adjustment as on the Quest 1, the dual screens moved as opposed to the lenses having to move over the single panel on the Quest 2. Lower cost of single panel LCD/higher res outweighed less IPD adjustment I imagine.
The quest 2 i got was returned, the 3 ipd settings were totally useless for me, my Rift s is much better with the software adjustments they allowed, no idea why they did not allow this for the quest 2
@@punishgaming3325 for sure worth it if you have a decent PC I've had it for 3 years now and have not had an issue with it and as long as you take care of your lenses and avoid scratches it is the best for the price out there! also the cable can be annoying but its an easy fix just hang it from the ceiling and it works wonders!
I currently have the Rift S and I am very happy with what it provides me. I dont need that mobility for my games. They are all sitting simulation games that are not provided on the Quest 2 without also being tethered to the PC. Plus there are still no good "mobile" sports games for the Quest 2 or Quest like on the PC I may go for the HP Reverb G2 for better quality and screen size next year when product is an "In Stock" item in the US.
Why not a single word on the oculus link quality on the Q2? Is it the same(crap) as Q1? Better? Worse? Input lag? You didnt even mention that the pc streams a compressed video to the visor and it is not of the same quality as the Rift S so even if the Q2 has higher resolution you could lose that benefit with streamed games. I think these are extremely important point to clarify as they have ditched the PC Only visors...
Dude I was thinking the same thing... Quest 2 has higher resolution than Rift S, higher refresh rate... But does that translate to a better picture over oculus link, or virtual pc with the quest 2?
Link quality is great. I've tried a few games and didn't notice any problems. Link is out of beta specifically for Quest 2 and they're focussing on making a that the future of PCVR, for Oculus at least.
God I wish they would just re-release the CV1 with an improved high-resolution display. The CV1 was everything I wanted in a headset. The only issue I had was the low resolution.
me with my index 4 years later "God I wish they would just re-release the index with an improved 8k -resolution display. The index is almosrt everything I wanted in a headset. The only issue I had was the glare and resolution."
Same I would love a CV2 release that use the sensors. The sensors give superior tracking to inside out if you have them installed properly. In my room they are litterally installed in the exact manner on wall sockets like you would with a HTC vive and its tracking is comparable in accuracy and has never failed me (using 3). I feel kinda like oculus ditched us CV1 buyers on the side of the road with simplified tracking... I stil love my oculus CV1. Just if it had better ressolution it would stil be perfect. And the LCD usage on newer headsets feels like such a downgrade for me due to the worse saturation in LCD compared to OLED.
I’ve been reading a lot of artifacts and most people are suing that the rift s is best, they say it looks smoother and plays better, and apperentlt there’s a bug with the quest app or something, I’d rather get the smoother looks headset I can secure to my pc instead of the mobile one, but that’s just me
The rift S has a lot of problems for me that a lot of people have to such as, taking countless tries to connect, weird noise that suddenly crashes your oculus, and robotic voice
I’m super stuck because I really want a PCVR headset but the quest is cheaper and has PC connectivity. The only problem is I want to not have the delay the Quest gives with the link
Personally owning the two headsets, I prefer the rift s. I feel like the colors, tracking, and overall quality just looks a lot better, don't get me wrong though, the quest 2 Is an awesome wireless headset but without having a display port connection for oculus link, it's just not the same.
I own both, and I prefer rift s on PC. Quest 2 is more expensive if you consider elite headstrap (a must) and an official link cable. Rift S is just more comfortable in my personal opinion.
11:20 You don't have to plug it in, you can use Virtual Desktop and play PCVR wirelessly with way better graphics cuz there's basically no compression.
I have the oculus Quest 2 and LOVE it! It REALLY IS the BEST gameing head set device I ever had. Quest 2 beats PS 4 VR and The First Quest and Quest rift with out a doubt the BEST gameing head set device you can get and for so much LESS than the other ones. In my opinion at leaste. 👍🌟
Was really hoping you'd do games/gameplay/resolution/lag etc... I've heard people say the quest 2 is higher res, but with the link compression, it looks worse than the rift S (Though, future link upgrade will hopefully fix that, as well as the latency issues)
I didn't think that was the case at all. It looked fine when I played games via Link. Though the lower refresh rate isn't great for Project Cars, but that'll change in future when they make it 90Hz as standard.
@@TheProvokedPrawn Ok, so you tested it with the link cable. Was the lag noticeable? Was it more responsive than the Quest 1 with the link cable? Was there any compresion artifacting whatsoever? Does the gameplay feel the same as when playing with the Rift S??? Come on give us something, this was supposed to be a comparison.
The only fair concern anyone can and should ever have is the compression when connecting to your PC. A lot of people are saying that the compression isn't ideal on the Quest 2 so the Rift S is still the better choice for PCVR gaming apparently. Is this true and would you also have the same recommendation if you exclusively care about PCVR gaming only?
Yes, that is a good question and one you would expect the answer to in a video titled: Comparison between the Quest2 and Rift S. Man, all these youtube reviews have been almost completely useless
Ryzer 1 hunnit and not really because oculus stated they would put all there focus on the quest 2 and the rift doesn’t get to many updates anymore these days and will eventually get outdated
Hi! Thanks for the super detailed and high quality video first! I'm just wondering the performance on steam vr using Virtual Desktop with Quest 2, because someone said the latency and resolution are gonna be worse like Quest 1 just released.
The guy who said that is mostly wrong, VD is impressively good and has much less latency than other things of the sort. So its fine especially with steamvr
I just bought a rift s. The quest 2 while it has better specs Will be only a slightly better experience. I only use my PC. I’ll wait for the next version of quest and just enjoy my oculus rift S Until the next version comes
I was like "wow that sounds pretty good" until I heard the 3 hr battery life and commited die cause I'm used to like 14 hrs straight without taking the headset off
you can attatch a powerbank to the back of the headset. easily double/triple the battery life, and it's actually more comfortable because it balances the front weight. You can buy 2 or and just rotate as they charge as well.
There is one thing that makes the Quest 2 far superior to the Rift S, you don't NEED a PC. That opens the door of VR to so many people, allowing free movement and epic advanced VR gaming without a PC or wires.
Yeah I think he means it can flex up a bit. Mine doesn't flip up either but there is enough flex in the halo and connector that I can pull it away from my face some.
What a well made and informational video. Not even going to comment on all the info I took away from this, just that you made it very easy to listen to. Lol
quest is still fine, i sold mine to CEX 1 day before Quest 2 release for £20 more than the quest 2 retail haha, it is worth it for me since i actually gained money from playing my cards right but if you bought a rift s it would just be a downgrade. Are you using the Virtual Desktop app to wirelessly play games, i had so much fun doing so on my original quest with no issue whatsoever. Buy a quest 2 if your quest is broken, if not, three is no reason unless you get good money for your original. DO NOT BUY RIFT S
To me above all it's the battery.. i Hate batteries, i hate how quickly the quest 2 drains especially at 120hz when connected to pc via usb3 and i don't want to spend extra on battery packs. As good as it is that's a big dealbreaker
@@kowhaifan1249 see I’m so mixed between the 2 I’m thinking the quest 2 cause if I want it stand alone I can and If I want to connect it to my pc I can and it’s still cheaper but I’m still not fully sold anything you could recommend or watever since you own it?
People say it isnt even a comparison... however to the rifts credit, you arent running a standalone vr. The rifts graphics should be much much better than the quests. Right? I just bought a rift s and it hasn't come in yet. I'm waiting to try it out and if it isnt to my liking I'm gonna return it. Will prob get the g2 instead if I dont like it
Rift S is better than the Quest 1. I bought a rift S after my flatmate picked up a quest. The freedom and benefits of the Quest are awesome but the image wasn't as good. I'm not sure how good the link can improve going forward for the Quest 2 but if they can improve the transfer it should be noticeably better. I picked it up for the benefit of bringing it on holidays and being affordable. I'm still awaiting the quest 2 though so can't compare it yet.
@@userious9534 that is some misinformation buddy. The quest is a standalone meaning you cant harness any more power than what is built in to a small box (the quest 2). Rift s runs on my beefy computer

Have some therapy ua-cam.com/video/l6XZ4XhwH00/v-deo.html
i personally think that standalone and pc powered headsets are two completely different categories that cannot be properly compared, in terms of support, software, and usability in the future , that is. pc powered headsets have tons of support, and probably will never become (completely) obsolete, like the Oculus rift DK2, people have managed to get steamvr full functionality with tracked motion controllers working with this headset, this nearly 6 year old headset can play half life alyx and other great games.
Quite so
The quest 2 i got was returned, the 3 ipd settings were totally useless for me, my Rift s is much better with the software adjustments they allowed, no idea why they did not allow this for the quest 2
Would you say that the Rift S is worth it? i wanna start playing VR games and its the cheapest headset going

I currently have the Rift S and I am very happy with what it provides me. I dont need that mobility for my games. They are all sitting simulation games that are not provided on the Quest 2 without also being tethered to the PC. Plus there are still no good "mobile" sports games for the Quest 2 or Quest like on the PC

Bc they haven't updated it yet
Dude I was thinking the same thing... Quest 2 has higher resolution than Rift S, higher refresh rate... But does that translate to a better picture over oculus link, or virtual pc with the quest 2?
@@nativerezmedia it already looks better than index in through the lens video using Oculus link
@@tehgusbus2716 I haven't seen that vid, saw it vs the first quest tho.
Higher res wasn't all that could be improved, wider fov, less fogging, eye tracking, finger tracking all would be nice.
me with my index 4 years later
"God I wish they would just re-release the index with an improved 8k -resolution display.

Who’s saying this because there only sending units to reviewers on UA-cam rn

Does the Quest change over the link cable while you’re playing a PC VR game? Is there any degradation in quality when playing via PC?
They didn't reduce the tracking LEDS, you can see them with an infrared camera, they're just arranged differently.
Arranged the same way, they just flicker to save battery.
@Just a Normal Gamer Gamer they're flickering differently now. New algorithm to save battery.
