8:00 that's one of the beauties of the 40k setting. There really is no line. Newer lore has been far tamed down, but old 40k lore the writers went "how bad can we make this?" Before cranking it to 11, realizing there is a 12 if they wrench on it hard enough, broke the knob off, and proceeded to throw it into the next zip code.

I think there are about three things often overlooked in this video;
1.) Krieg soldiers, like all soldiers of the Imperial Guard, go through a form of basic training. "The Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer" is a book, standard issue to all members of the Astra Militarum, which details everything a guardsman needs to know about fighting the foes of the Imperium. Time to read this book, internalize its contents, and time to practice the basics the book goes over is all given to fresh recruits before they're sent into the grinder. It's not just immediately sending them out to be shot in some drill, they do get simple training which includes an understanding of how to fight literally every form of xenomorph the Imperium has to face.
2.) While going through their training, the soldiers are located on Krieg. Krieg is by far one of the most technologically advanced planets in the Imperium, with access to some of the highest quality equipment possible. This includes medical equipment; Which means that, short of death, there's very little the local medic won't be able to fix even if the worst should happen. Getting shot, crushed, run over, eviscerated, losing limbs; these are all learning experiences for the average Krieg soldier, as there just is the technology to fix any of these injuries almost overnight when they occur.
3.) Krieg soldiers are vat grown. While the Imperium does tend to stay away from explicitly cloning a bunch of the exact same person, Krieg soldiers are all made from very similar stock. As the entire planet was at war with itself for hundreds of years, they had plenty of time to perfect their methodology. So, while those who deviate too much from the norm will be rooted out via death, the number of soldiers who actually die during training would be very small. Hundreds or even thousands of soldiers dead during training does seem like a lot, but when the entire planet produces literal tens of millions of soldiers for the Imperium on a monthly basis, it means that most of their soldiers just aren't likely to do anything that would get them killed during training. They're just not that kind of person.

For 2.) Getting replacement for a grunt recruit still costs a lot of resources and we have always seen that in the WH40K universe, the only resource that is in abundance is humans. Which is why, to my knowledge, a Kriegsman is trained to, for example, toss away their lasgun when they are hit by a necron deatomizer, so their weapon can be retrieved by the Quartermasters. Which means that the medical treatments aren't the best as they usually prefer to kill critically wounded soldiers on the battlefield, delivering the Emperor's Mercy on them.
@@imaran1303 While this is generally true, 'critically wounded' does not mean the same thing in the 40k universe as it does in the modern world. Realistically, if a soldier is breathing and a Biologis is nearby (not an especially common occurrence, but one that does happen) then there are very few wounds that would be considered 'critical.'
Also, your example is a little unjustified. If a guardsmen is hit by a necron deatomizer, being told to toss away their weapon doesn't mean they value the weapon more than the soldier. It means they value the weapon more than the symbolic gesture of letting the soldier die with their weapon in hand. At the point they're hit by that type of weapon, they're going to die. Tossing away their lasgun doesn't give up some small chance to save their life; It just prevents the lasgun from being needlessly destroyed in the process.
@@Necroes I was also bringing out the whole that a Quartermaster will usually prioritize the weapon over the soldier as they are more then willing to put down a injured soldier and then gather up their equipment which also should hint at some sparsity in that regard considering the lengths they will go through to conserve equipment. Because, as stated, the only resource that the Imperium has in abundance and is willing to squander is human lives.
I believe I said this last time, but the Death Korps does not fuck around. If you mess up during training, you can and will die, and the Korps will not give a shit, because you were so incompetent that you died during basic training in controlled circumstances, so clearly you wouldn't be worth anything in the Death Korps proper and it would be best to grant you the dignity of sending you off to the Emperor right then and there. Luck is not a factor in the Death Korps' training regiment, but following orders the first time and surviving to the end of training is. This is the reason why the Death Korps are some of the craziest, hardest, and most well-disciplined bastards to not wear power armor; those are the traits that allowed them to survive in an environment where failure equals an ignoble death.

15:40 Arch "does" go into explicit detail on this, (over and over again actually) and you have to remember Death Corp officers consider stacking 400 bodies on top of a pillbox, effectively negates the threat of that pillbox through sheer lack of being unable to fire anymore...... Nihongo Samurai in ww2 explains this better than I can. the war was over 20 years ago, but still Japanese soldiers fought a war they didn't know had already ended......... That is Death Corp.....
9:01 if the injury can be treated and the soldier can return to the field with the same or atleast comparable skill as his comerades, they are treated. If they are permanently injured they are given the emperors mercy, aka a bullet to the face.
Krieg doesn't think of their soldiers as people, they see them as ammunition, the Krieg training is to literally create a soldier with reasonable skill but who is so desensitised that facing down the nightmare hordes of chaos is Monday, they are literally expected to be willing and able after watching all their unit die.
its less about the effectiveness of the individual and more about scrubbing out what's left of their individuality so that they charge to their certain death wave after wave squad after squad till the enemy is literally on the verge of a hysterical panic attack when he hears the whistle telling him another charge of crazy people in gas masks is coming.
Krieg makes armies, armies that are effectively a living terror weapons, the soldiers that won that nuclear wasteland war expected to die of radiation poisoning after one or two patrols to the surface and make every moment of that patrol count, this speaks a lot about their indoctrination and ironclad mental conditioning.
Many other guard units have described Krieg rank and file soldiers as cold, emotionless, automata like with little apparent qualms at performing duties most soldiers would outright refuse, or rebel if asked to do.
Eg slaughter an entire planetary population down to the last man woman and child or charge into a literal warp tainted hell-scape and beat back the forces of chaos only to charge again the next day.
Krieger's are rather blatantly a special kind of factory process soldier, the individual is not important obedience in the face of unimaginable horror is important.
Charge across the lethally irradiated no mans land and kill the enemy knowing that just getting in the trench to start has given you a near lethal dose... just like your brothers, your father your grand father and the last dozen generations taking back Krieg from the traitors.
And when war was won the soldier factory kept cranking, all it needed to do was scale up production.
All confirmed in novel ''Dead Men Walking'' (part of Imperial Guard series), even non-Krieg people drafted to their ranks are no exception.

How do Kriegers stack up against Khornate opponents, then? Morale is a non-issue on both sides in that case.

khorne is the god of killing savagery and slaughter, while Krieg are ruthless calculus.
Khorne armies have a savage honour and will see things like gas weapons as cowardly.
Kriegs officers won’t care the weapon works.
A khornate army fighting kriegers is a complete meat grinder the problem is that the slaughter may bring demons into the mix.
Most guard will be hesitant with demons kriegsman will fight even as the exterminatus drops.
The problem for khorne would be their resigned fanaticism, khorne uses a warriors pride and ego to turn them to chaos and well the krieger’s are convinced they’re only worth is to sell their lives for every victory, they’re conditioning is one of self defacement seeing they’re people as sinners and service and death their redemption so I don’t see many kriegers turning.
The slaughter would be exactly what khorne wants but kriegers would use every trick in the book to make it an attritional slog fest souring the battle
@@KrimzonFlygon1 Here's a more interesting match-up - krieg vs. death pact/sons of sek (from gaunt's ghosts series), they worship khorne yet fight in a sensible manner (as much as cultists/traitor guardsmen can be expected to).
Chile during the Peru-Bolivian confederation war actually trained some soldiers in this way. They were young soldiers and lesser criminals, the general in charge of the training shot live ammunition at them and even threw boulders rolling down the hill he made them climb, used actual mines and bombs. They turned out to be some of the best and bravest soldiers of the army during the war and the following Pacific war years later, the place were they trained is actually close to my house "cerro blanco", some still found shrapnel from the old grenades and metralla.

@@steelgreyed penal legions of the imperium are only criminals, the example im giving also included young soldiers that didn't get to join one of the other alreay existing armys, young as a kriegsman, chilean soldiers could be as young as 13 just like legendary Patricio Lynch was during this particular war. I recall there being a story of a mother complaining about the danger of the exercises to his son (they were from a rich family) and the officer just answered: shut up mam im making your son a man. Also im talking about the dangerous training not the man who fills the ranks.

I personally LOVED the sleep deprivation stories of SEALS in training. The one trooper who thought he was in a Casino and spent hours pulling the arm of a slot machine in front of a tree in the middle of no-where. Priceless.

Officers in the Guard are generally not that well decorated. In the case of the Death Korps, their officer uniforms are fairly subdued. Instead of a spike on top of their helmet, they may have a small golden bird. Their gasmask may have a slightly modified design with slightly different colors. Their coats are thicker to afford more protection, and slightly different in color to help mark them out at a glance, but their overall design is similar enough that the enemy wouldn't immediately recognize them as such unless they were, say, dedicated snipers and assassins. And if you kill a Death Korps officer, his men are not going to panic and are just going to carry on with whatever orders they were given previously, regardless of personal risk. So short of having their officers paint their uniform flaming neon pink, the decorations on said uniform are insignificant.
An interesting detail a Korps officer will have different to a regular trooper is their footwear.
Officers mostly wear the same tall boots as the Death Rider Cavalry, which is more comfortable and more protective than the footwear issued to the infantry.

In 40k an individual only becomes valued "after" proving themselves, as you mentioned Commissars get body part replacements all the time, where do you think those come from? (outside of Yarrik going "GIVE ME THAT ORC'S ARM....") Conversely if you are a complete waste of genetics, there is always becoming a Servitor and (cough) donating your otherwise useless body parts to more deserving "individuals." The Imperium really has no room for such while fighting for the survival of the species, if you prove yourself valuable, value will be returned. Till then, "welcome to the meat grinder...."

The 40k Caste system works until it doesn't, and that's where the Inquisition comes in. Its still a shit show, however...... they did this for 10,000 years..... Don't worry, it is not like that.
When a DKoK member sprains something and just needs rest to be back at 100% he will be given rest.
Even heavier injuries will be treated.
The only thing that is taken into account is: How much resources are wasted on getting you healed up.
For example: A DKoK soldier loses his legs.
He could be given prosthetics and either be send back to the front lines or be send back to the factories.
But this most likely wouldn't happen.
He will most likely not be as efficient as before.
He can be easily replaced.
It is better to spent the resources elsewhere in that case.
To make it simple:
If it is cheaper to just train someone new or if the costs are to high (many resources and in the end you still will never be at 100%) you outlived your usefulness, and there is no point in keeping your crippled ass around.

I would think a Guardsman who has managed to become very skilled with a pice of specialist equipment would be healed/repariered from cripeling injury. Same with officers.

I remembered something from one of my previous videos that i wanted to state concerning the Imperium's Tanks. Something that gives a very very good insight into the sort of sideways thinking that the Imperium runs off of.
The Leman Russ Main Battle Tank is a absolute peice of trash tank compared to the M1-A1 Bain Battle Tank. However the Imperium despite having the tech to develop a much better tank more in line with the Abrams has a far superior tank for their needs in the wonderfully advanced Leman Russ.
In terms of off road cruising Speed, Armor angle, crew survivability, main gun accuracy, the Leman Russ hilariously underpreforms compared the modern Abrams.
However the Leman Russ was never designed for these details. The armor shape if the Leman Russ was meant for factory simplicity to save the work crews time, even children could be assigned to build this tank at a comparable rate to their adult counterparts. The Leman Russ' shape and simple designs also means it can be conveyed on trains, ships ect in such bulk where they would have a hilarious numeric advantage over the Abrams.
The Tank is simple to train on, men from worlds that have never even seen a car can be trained in weeks to be suitablly proficient on this tank.
And the Leman Russ' Engine is the true marvel of this vehicle as just under 50% of the Engine exists solely for alternative fuel sources, and the Tank can be made mobile on Coal, Wood, or with a little chemistry corpses. Even with deminished performance, that means this tank technically has near unlimited range and, ammo notwithstanding, could operate indefinitely without resupply.
PS. As for Death Korp training and mentality yeah they are kind of shit, but a fan favorite. All your alternatives and complaints are actually embodied by the Vostroyan First-Born who i think would be your favorite.

@@CombatVeteranReacts More or less. Quantity is a quality of its own. Efficiency is a quality of its own. Combine the two with 40k. Chinese Korean war human wave tactics with Sherman tank efficiency, and you've got 40k. They have the people, they have the efficiency, and they drown out the enemy. They also, depending on the regiment and the force commander, they have amazing tactics. When a massive global war costs 17 million dead Kriegers, such as the siege of Vraks, the commander has all of those things combined. And that's a solid example of 40k in a nutshell. With enough human waves, and enough efficiency, and solid tactics, humans are holding their own. Even with the fall of Cadia, the splitting of the galaxy with the massive warp rift, etc... Humanity is surviving. Not thriving, sure, but they still have massive global scale wars with relatively small casualties. Forget the inquisition, forget the space marines, the Guard are holding the line and winning wars.
@@michellewilt4479 that reminds me of a bit from the Horus Haracey, where the loyalists needed to take a ridiculously fortified world and they estimated to take 1000 casualties for every square foot taken back from the rebels. (My numbers may be off but as this is 40k it is better to err on the ridiculously high)

Death Korps guardsmen who are wounded during training have no experience to offset the cost of their injury. They are purely a burden at that point. If they do not execute them, it would probably be merely for morale purposes. But considering who it is we're talking about, even that probably isn't much of a consideration. However, even relatively grizzled soldiers that are badly wounded probably would not be terribly valued for their experience, because it was almost entirely luck and happenstance, with probably little to nothing of value that said guardsman can really pass down. Unless they were an engineer or some other specialist unit, they don't have very long life expectancies. Their injury was most likely received within a month or two of entering combat, alongside millions of other men. The little experience he does have, is going to be weighed against the lives of men who can return to the fight sooner, more effectively, and a dozen other priorities. Will evacuation be worth it? Will the operation have to be changed to do so? I do however believe that they would have no issue with helping someone who is only temporarily injured. If they will be back in the fight within a reasonable timeframe, then obviously they'll just tell the man to do some task he's still capable of performing until that point. They don't just kill each other for the fun of it.
id think anyone who was this seriously injured would just be tossed to the mechanicus for servitor conversion
minor recoverable injuries happen quite frequently amongst the death korps and amongst the guard such as getting shot, spraining something or tearing muscles. the death korps do have medics and also are willing to replace full limbs if necessary to keep a solider in service until they die. that being said its only the generally unfixable wounds such as breaking your spine or losing part of your brain or even losing limbs while in training that is looked down upon since it shows that you were either incompetent or failed to listen to instructions and thus far no use as a death korps soldier. Those are generally the people who are looked down upon and shunned by the rest of korps, arch does a decent job describing lore but often he exaggerates the pure insanity of the 40k universe while the imperium does use a fair bit of logic to make their decisions (even the death korps) its just they often use only reason and logic and not much compassion along side it.

I also feel I have to point out the "danger" of giving priority to the individual, this is exactly how the Horus Heresy happened in the first place, and they really don't have a better answer than what they are already doing. In short, "IF YOU" were in the Corps, you'd probably end up a Quartermaster, the one who "decides" if a soldier is too injured and "deserves" the Emperor's Mercy, or if they could be healed quickly enough to get "back to the line." Quartermasters go out in the night after a battle to "retrieve" Imperial property. One way or another.
When it comes to augmetics, it can be a bit vague who can get them, maybe it’s a mix of reputation and what’s on hand. For instance, Commisar Sebastian Yarick, Hero of Armageddon, voluntarily removed a good working eye in order to have an augmented one in order to help scare the Orks. However, there’s the case of a guy from a penal legion, a “fighting force” that’s sent out to mine fields in order to detonate them and otherwise designed to be a meat shield, can also receive an augmented eye because they thought he earned it. I think things like eyes and fingers could be easily replaced, but mechanical limbs may be a bit harder to get a hold of, if say the Mechanicus would rather keep the augmetics for themselves and their members. But this is partly speculation on my part.

they can live and continue, with some shame but given the chance to redeem themself
if its something big like losing a kidney, a limb an eye
bionics are expensive
once they are in the guard they will probably get one if they lose a limb in combat, but a recruit is cheaper then a bionic
once in combat the bionics are there and the new recruits need to be flown in, so patch up the living with a cheap piece of metal
but when on krieg there arnt many bionics and plenty of recruits
in the end its all about logistics and efficiency, would be a waste to attach so much valuable cheap metal to a person worth less
Death Korps strategy
If the enemy has a thousand rounds of ammunition then send one thousand and one Death Korps soldiers per enemy.

if a krieg guardsman has minor wounds that require minor medical care, they will be given the care and rest needed to recover and return to the battle field. If you get so injured that you require major prosthetic replacements, you may luck out and get those but it is not likely unless you are an officer of some sort. It is like an equation, how long will it take and how many extra resources are going to be required to get this soldier back to fighting strength and back on the front line vs how valuable is he. if the quartermaster comes to the conclusion that you are not worth the time and materials to rebuild your body, he will give you the emperors mercy. But if he deems you worthy enough to be kept alive, he will do his darnedest to keep you alive long enough to reach the apothecaries and receive the medical care you need. And while the medical technology of 40k is amazing, it does still have its limits.
The death korp officers also keep track of which formations are taking more casualties, and which ones are taking less, and adjust their attacks accordingly. So lets say we are rushing positions A, B, and C. Positions A and C inflicts Y casualties in X amount of time, while position B inflicts less then Y casualties in the same time. it could be a defensive battery that needs maintenance and is thus less effective, it could be less experienced troops, or any other number of factors. So they will then adjust and mass rush position B while pressuring A and C to try to impede the reallocation of enemy defenses. And higher ranking Krieg officers do realize they are better able to serve the korp by leading their men rather then dieing on the field and will lead them from the rear, but they are much closer to the fighting then other commanders. A krieg general may be in the first or second line of trenches, while any other commander would probably be kilometers behind the lines, if he is even on planet. Heck, Zulka thought he could lead the siege of Vraks while not even in the same solar system.
And special uniforms for officers was a thing for like napoleonic tactics where you would line up in orderly line formations, fire, let your enemy fire, and be gentlemanly about it. One of the things the British hated about fighting some of the american commanders during the revolutionary war was they had standing orders to shoot the officers at the start of engagements to try to disrupt the british chain of command.
The Marines are usually reluctant to be mounted infantry because of their role as naval infantry. They aren't usually meant to be going too far beyond the coast line of any given place, so when they are deployed that way, they're sort of screwed. And while they can meet and excel in those roles normally reserved for the Army, that isn't what they were designed for. They were always meant for coastal assaults with close air support and naval artillery, and limited armor and vehicles due to space upon ships. So it may be some time before we see them raise to their new role as Army lite and adopt mounted infantry tactics.
Actually Napoleonic Prussia was on the decline, rife with old traditions and complacency. The Prussia you were thinking of was decades prior to Napoleon. But good job on actually knowing about this, since nearly all Americans (US) I've spoken to don't know what Prussia is, or who Frederick the Great was.

I always loved the fact that Napoleon deeply admired Frederick. For his tactics and probably because they both went through similar experiences; that was being dogpiled by most of Europe.

One of the things you have to keep in mind when it comes to Death Kore training and tactics and the (what we see as absurd) casualty rates is that the population of Kreig are not naturally born but grown artificially at rates otherwise impossible effectively giving them unlimited amounts of people to throw into training and combat, also on the topic of the physical size and fitness of Kreigers its probably worth remembering that they are not "natural" Kreig has at this point spent decades if not centuries manipulating the gene stock of its people through various means (including but not limited to eugenics programs) to maximise the combat effectiveness of its male population.
The general consensus for kreig medical aid is if it’s possible for you to return to the fight and not be a burden them sure Patch em up your duty is not down yet

It's worth noting that the latest release of plastic Kriegsmen includes options for a medic. Not a quartermaster, a medic.
So really a lot of this is up to interpretation. Krieg are as cruel as you think they are, and GW leaves it vague enough for you to sort it out. Whether a really terrible situation is a worst case scenario or a really common one is never specified

Have you ever thought about making a video of you designing your own Astartes Chapter or Guard Regiment? It would be interesting to see how you would make one based off your experiences and see which existing chapter or regiment most closely matches it. There combat doctrine, homeworld, are they codex compliant etc.

its generally a misconception that learning to read takes a lot of time and effort
we often think of people in the dark ages as being illiterate, but that was most likely not the case
most couldnt write, and they would probably have trouble reading a scientific thesis, but basic reading skills are fairly simple to pick up over the years atleast in a culture with letters in its surroundings
it is never mentioned if the people in the imperium can write, but it is safe to assume almost everyone in the imperium can read

The idea that everyone (or even many) people of the medieval where illiterate is a fiction invented by the victorian's (along with a great many other myths) almost all the archeology evidence we have suggest otherwise (we actually have "letters" written by peasents) along with many other indicators of this being the case (why outlaw translating the Bible if nobody can read it anyway), it really does seem that all literacy rate statistics from the time are based on the ability to read/write Latin rather than local languages.

The death kore dose have a form of officer training but its typically do in field. Luetin09 has video explaining the korps in greater detail. Arch has good content but skips over a lot of information. All in all Ive been enjoying your channel and would like to see more

one thing to say about kriegsmen training program. they are there to make as many fighting men as possible, and it is much faster and efficient to teach through shock. "that man died because he didnt take cover, that man died because he was not fast enough", the whole of krieg is to churn them out at a mid-line as quickly as possible, and if a few hundred thousand need to die to make a million decent troops than so be it, remember they dont want low quality, they dont want high quality, they want an average to give them a decent chance to survive long enough to make a difference and possibly become elite units, specialists, or leaders with large amounts of experience under there belts.
I just looked up the Potsdam Giants on Wikipedia, and I honestly have to agree with Arch on this one. The Prussian king who organized them was Friedrich Wilhelm the first, and he was known to be obsessed with the regiment. Apparently, he once said to a french ambassador "The most beautiful girl or woman in the world would be a matter of indifference to me, but tall soldiers-they are my weakness."

I feel the training of the death korps would make more sense if the following tweaks where made
Bayonet drills are with some kinda taser thats designed for pain. This should keep a degree of disturbing lore, you know kids getting tased being bad.
Training blank rounds should have say 1 in 20 be a live round. Keeps the risk and the grimdark, with their being logical reason.
Then at the end of training different say platoons (or similar groupings) of guardsmen. These engage in an actual if scaled down military campaign for a length of time.
This would include acting in a variety of roles to test compentance and what role is best.
That's still incredibly "grimdark" and makes a hell of a lot more sense. Given it's a trail by fire you could see the logic.
I think with injuries if a limb is severed they will arrange a mechanical one if your deemed good enough.
I do believe that they go out of the way to keeps soldiers healthy. So a slight lore discrepancy I suppose.
Finally I do believe that the Krieg soldiers in some books are shown as a bit dour. Though are willing to crack jokes of you can't ride a horse. But when push comes to shove they just switch into "sacrifice mode".

FYI, that Prussian guy sent his men internationally to get his giants...this includes a story about a giant man here in Ireland that was kidnapped...I think they got him really drunk, pass out and tied up...I think, if I remember the story correctly. Look how far away Ireland is from basically modren day Austria (I think) and you'll get an idea of how big a feat that kidnapping must have been to pull off...in the time of horse and carts...and muddy, pre tarmac, European roads. It rains a lot...People that remember fairs and concerts in grass feilds, will understand this.
remember though, it's like the Krieg do the same bio mechanical stuff other regiments do. This seems like more of s personal interpretation of things I think isn't there, as grim as Krieg is.

The death korpse have a cult of sacrifice, not a cult of suicide. So if someone were to waste the emperors resources, they will execute them

And the strong military shows in the proverb of the time (post-napoleonic), that the German Kaiserreich was "a military with a state and not the other way around".
The way to view Krieg is not as much cruel as deterministic. When they make a plan they calculate the most efficient way to achieve this, which includes the most cost beneficial expenditure of lives and then they do it. They see it as a simple cost to be paid to achieve the results they already consider a foregone conclusion. The moment that plan was signed those men were already dead men walking. It is kind of like a monetary transaction in a way.
They might get a bit zealous sometimes but this is not truly who they are, they dont THROW their lives away pointlessly. It is always towards this bigger goal that has already been set in stone.
The same is true for their medical section. For them every soldier has a value, some more than others. Likewise they only have a limited supply of resources with which to help out. Their assistance towards you is directly determined by your value as well as the resources required to help you VS the value of the next person and the resources required to help them. When they have more resources they can help more people and more valuable people get preferential treatment. But no one is exempt from the need to be efficient.
The way that Krieg can just grind their opponents into the dirt is not because they have necessarily more although that can certainly be the case but that they efficiently use everything at their disposal. They will drag their resources out to an insane degree if given the opportunity and the resource they most often can spend the easiest just happens to be manpower.
I like how Ork snipers are a legitimate concern now…
Some rejects, may still be able to serve by aiding in training the next generations..... there are books mentioning that the mg gunners and so on shooting at the trainees would be the rejects.

One last point of interest. Nothing says screening potential "lucky" candidates quite like incoming enemy fire. They have million's of applicant's, its no longer a question of "if" you find someone lucky, its just a question of "how many?" And nothing says "inspiring" fellow soldiers quite like having an officer who "survived" 15 bayonet charges.
Idk if some one said this yet but for every 1 guardsmen you kill 100 more will take his place 3.7 times that for kreigers

If you continue watch Arch's vid on the battle for varks you will see 3 types of commanders 1. A bad one 2. A Great one 3. A one with absolute power.
fun fact about the officers uniforms the departmentomintorum orderd that the officers of the death korps have some diffrences from the every day guardsmen other wise the officers woulde not give a singel s*th about their uniforms
8:36 a bit late for this one but, to put it simply, there’s no line on krieg, if you failed to make the grade, on krieg you’ll be sent to the rejects regiments and literally every use to make a final test to the actual krieg regiments finial test, which is a final “mock” battle, in which everyone is using live ammo and the objective of the new regiment is to take the position of the rejects, and the rejects will use their sacrifice to better prepare the new soldiers, there’s a hole book on this subject, in which one of this rejects soldiers survives long enough to encounter a lurking genestealer which he kills thus becoming an actual guardsman but it infects him, unfortunately for the genestealer, he’s a reject and dies on the next 10 min, but failing to make the grade is the only way that you would end up on the reject squad, being injured in a way that you could recover, they will just heal you up and send you back in.

Speaking about lethal training: WWI italian Arditi have significant numbers of deaths during their training, and they were most volonteers soldiers. It's not so strange to imagine this happen in a culture like Krieg.
But did that level of training make them better soldiers?

In the case of the Arditi, they attacked the enemy trench only with knife, granade and some kind of stun petard. Plus they had to run throug covering smoke (when they are lucky) and rain of bullets.
So, they must learn vey well close combat techniques and explosives. In this case, during the terrible time of WWI this type of training was probabably exagereted but not so much.
If you think... it would be cool a tipe of hand to hand suicide specialists unit for krieg. Much theyr attitude.
Just because your soldiers are genetically identical, it does not mean that they are all out of the same psychological mould, look at the GAR from Star Wars, their officer corps was initially trained from birth for leadership but the Republic still ended up with officers with a wide range of personality traits

So by the time they turn 18 they have had 10 - 12 years of training. This is how they have large numbers of troops
Thats way too long to train for the kind of doctrine they use. These aren't super elite spec ops even then special operation soldier's don't take that long
I saw talking to an American tourist a few years ago, he told me that the VA (veterans affairs office, ie medical support for the US military) was doing fine before 9/11, but then after that, got so backlogged with the overwhelming amount of claims to sort threw, that he described it as "you'll get the help that you need, but after you need it".
I love the USA, but that's scary. Apparently they only digitised their records within the last decade or so. Having said that, our soldiers over here in Ireland get really bad wages that make full time soldiers able to be fine financially until they start a family...because you're living off base food and accommodation, etc, but then you're screwed. God help decent soldiers trying to make a living...at least it's far better then the British Army grunts where treated, by the British army, back in the day.

As far as I know it is simply stated that they use live ammunition in training and that training is quite deadly though it isn’t clear in which way I doubt they just kill of their troops from the start but more like sort out the good ones in the end and due to the more deadly training they do tend to die more often then other regiments in training but not like almost everyone dies.
The quartermaster on the other hand seems to be more like if the injury would need more complicated medication they are killed.
A small flesh wound? Nah he will be fine (probably they are still send back to the grinder before they are fully healed but hey) but if you have like a belly shot you aren’t medicated you are executed and maybe you are also executed if you won’t fully recover or are able to be returned ina. Reasonable time to the regimen as your equipment is needed for others. And they don’t want you just lieing around slowly firing so they give „the emperors mercy“
The officers are mostly drawn from the guard through long service time and yes their qualifications are likely slightly less but they are still an normally thinking human (to some extend) and it is not stated that they aren’t getting officer training etc.
You are trying to apply logic to the imperium. You have planets dedicated solely to paperwork, religion, or even cemetery worlds. The administratum on Terra are processing reinforcement requests for battles that happened and ended 100's of years in the past. The same waste and lack of forward planning is endemic throughout all imperial manufacturing. And the death korp is effectively manufactured with no care to waste. If you want highly skilled and trained troops you look to the Cadians.
He was speaking of a major permanent damage not a sprained ankle.
Minor injury isn't the problem, it's things like losing their limbs with nerve damage. Nerve damage as in that you have to spend huge amount to fix.
One of the fun things about 40k, is that you can dismiss stuff that's stupid and substitute it for your own lore if you wish. Everything is canon because nothing is certain in the historical records. I like to think Krieg soldiers aren't utterly mindless baboons. They'll treat an injured soldier like anybody else would, because it's a waste not to. And you can see bionic limbs in the newer krieg models anyway, so it's confirmed that regular soldiers do in fact get them.
