Thanks for all the comments. I've had a good laugh at some of them. Of course it's much harder back home;Due to far more traffic and uphill. Average to work 40 k/h return 30 k/h. Regards Nore231 ( the fucking peasant)
very nice guy your ride is a beautiful city that you guys have in Norway, soon I'll shoot one of my tours in Brazil, and post on you tube to know my city that is nothing like the 1st cities world more than we love so much and fought so that one day is more worthy to inhabit. congratulation a hug from all Brazilian who enjoy trikes.
I'm amazed at how fast you ride this awesome machine! I'm really stunned! It's hard to believe it's only human powered! Come on... You better tell us you were only going downhill! ;-) Congratulations for the machine, the ride and the beautiful country you live in.
Ah, thank you! I have seen your other video many times. Now I've put my own background music and took a very enjoyable trip through Oslo on a beautiful morning on your velomobile! Thank you once more :-)
excellent ride! Thanks for sharing! Such wonderful roads upthere in Norway! One day I will test a velomobile, for the moment I keep my recumbent bike :-)
Beware! Just the first 8km out of this 25km-trip are downhill, the rest ISN´T , so, the last 67% of the trip is on leveled road!!! Cause many of you seem to have the impression, that the whole trip is downhill... in the first 8km he drops from 125m to 0m elevation... to my opinion, this is just a small declination, it is just an 1,5% slope in average!!!!
Thanks for putting this up. I commute on a recumbent bike, but could never get speeds like this where I live (NYC), even with a faired trike like yours (crazy cars, poor pavement, clueless pedestrians). Pay no attention to naysayers from this part of the world, most of them can't get in their SUV's without a shoehorn :-)
i'm not english speaker, i'm a Russian. While i can understand your English, i still can not understand, what you call "dish soap" and what kind of "dew" do you mean?
lucarne étrange Thank you. Now i've got all the idea. The dew is the breathing dew on visor. My dictionary gives the word perspiration for it.. To eliminate it, he uses a drop of a dish soup. Thanks for your explenation.
The issue here that I have is, as an office employee, I could hardly see myself arriving at work in one of those contraptions after say, 45 mins of peddling, baked in a thick coat of sweat. I work out and love to do so, but I only see a future in such things for short distance commuting, say 10km approx or around 20 minutes.
Every monday I cycled 38 km in 1 hour 5 min to work in a velomobile with electric motor assist and take a shower there, then I am the freshest smelling person in the office.
I think you are absolutely right. From what I have read, despite huge numbers of regular bike commuters in the Netherlands, working age males (20s, 30s, 40s) ride their bikes the least for exactly the reason you've stated. Their average commutes are much longer and so much more likely to be done by car. Only enthusiasts would ride much more than the 10km you stated, and that would be assuming a very moderate pace (non-sweat speed). I think a velomobile, through efficiency, can increase the average speed, but the cost benefit for most people wouldn't be worth it. Although I admire salsagids above for his effort (I might do the same), it's certainly not typical.
Riding work is very easy, little traffic even on normal days(not summer vacation) . 65% on road. Average to work is normally 40 km/h(35-36 min). Back from work its much harder, half the distance is on walking/cycling path and pavement, average is 28-29 km/h (51-52 min)
I use burnus antistatic plastic cleaner, just soak a paper towel and apply, no rubbing, just make it wet with the cleaner. For emergency I have a soap-water spray with me. But since I use burnus, I didn't get any fogging of the shield anymore. I never drive without my windshield hood, because I wear contacts.
It amazes me sometimes what excuses people find not to look after what is left on this planet. If you have Electric assist Its a walk in the park. I do 40 Ks a day and I'm 59. Good set of hydrological disk brakes and I can pull up my bike from speed faster than some cars.
+Gregory Potter No electric assist on my bike yet.. but if I am on a flat or downhill, push hard, have the crankset in mid or low position, and pace my up-shifts on the rear cassette with my cadence, I do leave the cars behind if lead or can comfortably tail them turning for a short distance (enough to cross the light and make it clear I am in the lane). My drag limit is roughly 45km/h on normal sitting stance. Halifax has hills though, and for some I have to bail from the bike and walk up them to avoid stressing the gearing (10%-15%+ grade).
And your street conditions are paradise - only roundabouts! - In germany you would have traffic lights all over - although the trend is moving towards roundabouts as well now - but still :D
105??? fantastic. Just the muscle force? Well, i see - the air shell (don't know in english)... Well, what about spokes in your wheels? actuaally, spokes drag lots of power! Even to ride 15m/s (50km/h) having just 100 watts of human power, gives only 6-7 Newtons of motive force! it is so little! to get 50 km/h!... How can it be possible???
I love the idea of these. The only fault I can find is the inability to reach the roads speed limit unless going downhill. If your on a road yo shouldn't slow traffic if traffic is around. Do any of them come with something like a electric assist motor? I would think a gas engine would make it fall under different rules more akin to a automobile or motorcycle, but maybe electric assistdoesn't count.

Incidentally, I'd be interested to see how easy the trip is around 7:30 / 8:00 am. I noticed you left home very early ... just before 6:00am. (Is this necessary to avoid rush-hour traffic). I would imagine this trip would be a lot slower if you had to contend with more stop-start traffic, and therefore you wouldn't be able to keep your speed from the downhill sections onto the uphills. Is this one of the reasons you leave so early?
It appears that you have no real suspension beyond perhaps a larger tire. The sound of the Streamliner casing bouncing about on the wheel must be pretty annoying.
What a ride! I know microphones pick up all kinds of noise that you may not really hear. How quiet or noisy is the velomobile? Is there much rattling from the frame and components? Alex
I rode in one of these and they are dead quiet, no louder than a traditional bicycle. Very smooth. They have the potential to be louder depending on the body mounting brackets, if they’re loose and the like.
Depends on gearing and tyre size Most people are around 80 rpm but some go as low as 60 or as high as 120, some professional on upright bikes grind gears and others go easier gear to spin at 120
Cool now lets see the return trip.
Thanks for all the comments. I've had a good laugh at some of them.

Thanks for the great ride and the tour of Oslo and environs! I had to put on my helmet!

To go uphill, just add pedal-assist.
Velomobile = the electric car of the future (will less and less oil).

All these bikes have suspension, usually a single Risse setup at the back. Very comfortable, but strong enough to keep acceleration quick.
