Novice pc builder and gaming enthusiast here. I just found your channel.Kudos on this video, and it's a great breakdown of approaching buying used parts online
Mining cards aren't bad buys really. They are usually underclocked, undervolted and well maintained in a clean and cold room. I'm still using a card I bought from a miner 7 years ago. It was in perfect condition for 1/3rd of the price. Any electronic component that's kept at a cool and constant temp doing a single task will last way longer than one that's gone through frequent heat cycles and varied voltage loads.
While this is generally true and I have purchased numerous mining cards, it needs to be said that there the dumbass miners that don't know wtf they are doing and do not undervolt the cards or care to clean them/provide additional cooling. So again, going back to you need to know what to look for. Generally striking a conversation with the seller can tell you a lot about them. If the guy doesn't know what undervolting is and the card seems dusty just pass on the deal.
My build is around $700 and mostly second-hand parts from eBay, including an AM5 motherboard that i got for a steal at $50($200 msrp). As long as you know what to look for and understand the risks that could be involved, it's a great option if you are on a limited budget.
Honestly, the last 10 years... 99% of the PC's I've been selling are made entirely, or almost entirely, from used parts. I offer a warranty on my systems and I've only had a couple come back. One was due to the failure of a part that was bought new, I did an RMA and got a replacement. The other just came back with a dead Z97 board. They bought this system over a year ago and it seems they have a surge that also killed a console on the same outlet. I generally stick to eBay for the buyer protections and then I just fully stress test everything before I call it good, assemble the parts into the system and sell it. If you're on a more strict budget and you're not considering used... you're really leaving a lot of performance on the table for the same money.
This is a great video. I built the same machine for my grandson while watching this and found prices to be lower, equal and higher then what you posted. It was great to use this to help educate my 10 year old grandson what and how to search for anything on the internet. Thank you for this. Subbed just because of the video.
When my sons were growing up I built their PC's pretty much the same way, but mixed in some used, hand me down from my systems, to some new parts. Like Kyle said, you just have to be careful and use some common sense when buying used. Never a guarantee, but in most cases you should be okay.
I upgraded my pc and my wife’s so with all the extra parts I have and my friend gave me some old parts I can now put together 2 full pc set ups that can do solid 1080p gaming for about 350 total. Used parts are the way to go if you want ultimate value. I’m giving 2 of my siblings the set ups including monitors.
6:37 - And the fact that 13th/14th Gen appear to have a 100% failure rate....that doesn't help either I guess.....so AM4, AM5 and 12th Gen Intel or older are the best options right now.
I've only bought a used part one time (an i7-2600 to replace an i3-2120 to breathe some life into an old PC I had) and all I did was check the seller's ratings and read through all positive and negative comments, THEN I checked similar listings they had and compared the price to options from other sellers to make sure that the price they were asking for made sense. I got my cpu within a week and it was properly packaged and delivered as advertised in line with the item condition they provided. Listings with little to no negative reviews or majority negative are the ones I will stay away from. Anyone selling anything is bound to get a negative review eventually (like the seller of the old i7 in my case) no matter whether it is the seller's fault or not and from my experience having a SMALL amount of negative reviews legitimizes that the seller is not trying to deceive buyers about what they are selling.
I used to only buy brand new parts. If the person is a scammer or not. If they're too in a rush to get rid of the items, they don't want to show any proof of it working, they always have excuses for all the solutions you have, and upsells harder than real estate agents. But there are still risks of it being at the end of it's lifecycle since we are buying older products that's been used by someone else. I just looked for trustworthy people my advice if your instincts tell you somethings wrong, most of the time there is something wrong. But I've bought alot of 2nd hand tech from other people and I'm glad to say the parts all still work although it is older and it's showing it's age on other tasks aside from gaming.
I dont think a used SSD is ever a good idea. I'd put trust in some semi recent seasonic models and some higher end corsair models for used PSUs but a Power Supply should always be new too and everything else used is perfectly fine.
I agree, BUT I just remembered I have been running 5 used SSDs in RAID0 for years. They are about 8 years old. My last job let me buy 2 paper boxes of broken laptops for $50. After making good laptops for minimal dollars, I had lots of 256GB left over. I got m.2 to sata adapters (the dumb cheap ones) this worked because all were sata drives. So I put 5 in my PC and used RAID0 for steam library (data I don't care about). They are still chugging along today. 5years of weekday business use then 3 of gamer use. Because of the audience I will share that the drives did not preform as well as my 2GB 4th gen NVME in crystal disk, it was close.
@@caffeinesippingman Well thats actually kinda fair considering you are reducing the wear on a single drive and just stripe it across multiple. However you should at least keep one drive as redundancy cause its rather bothersome when one drive takes down your whole array.
@@kitsune7919 Meh, just game data Steam has my back. I was super poor at the time and my 1St gen Intel socket wasn't cutting it for me anymore even with the Xeon heater I installed. The drives were "free" at the time when a good 1tb cost over $150. If I had to do it allover again leaving 1 slot open for my next drive would have been nice. I will probably add an old drive to a USB to sata, back up the array then install a 1 to2 tb drive and move the data back.
Also dont recall if this was mentioned, there are parts that you could go used. cpus, memory and gpus usually have pretty good rma processes, and cases are pretty much a good case for used. So people could mix of new and used as well. Mainboards, storage and GPU's are spots where people may feel more comfortable to just buy new.
I love that LevelOneTech shirt. a. I have built around the Montech Air 100. Its a good entry level case with one tiny exception. The USB 3.0 header cable is too damn tight. IF you plug it, removing it will remove he socket brackets as well. But then again this can be put back in and it will still work. b. love that motherboard. c. can't believe how cheap used memory. The used market in my country is ridiculously high. d. I own a small PC shop here and when it comes to PSU, Corsair is something I am scared of. I have seen a lot of failures with it. Perhaps its the environment or what. IT doesn't matter if its, CX or RM series, it might not last. e. how i wish we had used cards at that price point. thats amazing value right there.
Two years ago a friend of mine gave me his old PC that had broke down years ago. It had a GTX 560Ti and an old i7 CPU. I figured out that it was the motherboard that had died, so I looked for replacements. Second-hand was absurdly expensive, people wanted $100+ for their old motherboards (market in Sweden is way smaller though). I found a refurbished option on Amazon for about $40 so I ordered one, and it worked just fine! Added an SSD which gave me a total of about $80-90 spent. It can't run modern AAA titles no. But I use it as a media station with my TV, and if friends are over they can use it and play less demanding titles which is still a lot of fun in many cases.
can you do a video on how to do a stress test on a used GPU for us consumers that fear buying used GPUs on ebay? Preferably with programs that won't cost any extra to use if possible
I only have around $350AUD to upgrade with, so.... i5-12400f ($165AUD, getting next week), MSI B760 Mobo ($144AUD, got delivered). Going from a i5-8400. Should be interesting as I went from an i5-3550 to the 8400! And in early November I am also getting the RTX 3060 from an GTZ 1660 Ti.
Hi, this video excited me because I went on a similar venture recently! I got my self a 3060 12gb from a friend who wanted to move it fast because he wanted to upgrade to a 4070 Super. I bought it for 150 ! I already had 32 gb 3200 corsair from my 10th gen i3 1050ti build. I bought a new AM4 board and cpu 5600x for 300~25. and a psu for 129 (Corsair 750 semi modular) I had peripherals I I bought a cheap li and li case on marketplace for 40 so I spent >~700 on a 1080p beast
A 2nd hand pre-built can also be a good deal, but it’s not as noob friendly. Recently picked up a similar-spec Alienware with a 5600X, 6700XT for $400. Only downside was they either smoked or vaped so cleaning it was not necessarily time-consuming but very disgusting
I have never paid retail for a pc and have never been disappointed, used parts are always the best alternative if you're on a budget, yes you can get ripped off and things can go wrong, but hey that can happen when you buy new as well. If it feels dodgy, don't do it, take your time and assess each person you talk to and know what you want.. you'll know when you find legit people and legit deals, just go with your gut instinct and you'll save a bundle on new everytime.
Video suggestion....query....question..... With the growth of channels like JaysTwoCents, Linus etc etc....has it caused the inflated prices of pc bits so that they are simply over priced tatt now.....or....has the growth of these channels improved things generally so that we all get great machines are great prices?
3:00 I have built many systems from used parts and only ended up with one dud. The ad for the MOBO said condition unknown open box and the price was $80 with 16 GB of RAM, the MOBO ended up being flaky but the RAM is good so I did not loose my shirt in the deal.
Managed to snag a 7th gen i5 and an RX 580, both used. Yeah, it's not much at all but it's better than nothing i.e. what I had for most of the last year. Times are tough.
That is a great system for most games on 1080p low. 40fps is better then zero fps. Find a good deal on a 5700 or 5800 Radeon and you can play most games on steam
@@gusdelmoba3185 I have been trying to overclock it and it has been paying off moderately but it's still not hitting 60fps so upgrading would be a good idea, I will try to scrounge up some money through the upcoming months to do just that. Thank you
Kyle, why did you kneecap your channel by saying you’re done with tech videos, and then still make new tech videos? I love your channel. You’re my favorite tech UA-camr of all time. I am just confused about the choices.
Did you order the parts? I would like to see the build put together and tested out by you. Especially how you would recommend stress testing the components. Thank you.
16gb has already been replaced for the minimum in new PC builds. I'd consider it reasonable for DDR3 builds and email office machines, but I would personally spend the extra $20 time and time again even for this build. My current machine has 256GB of registered ECC and the base platform upgrade (X99 E5-1660V3 to X570 R7 5700x3d) I'm doing this week will see me downgrade to 64GB. Perhaps I'll toss in another 64GB if I can get a second kit of what I got the first time on the cheap because I routinely hit 50GB+ in use.
There are some parts you should never get used, like PSUs and storage. And even PC cases since new ones like the Montech case shown here aren't that expensive.. unless you like dealing with dust, dirt, hair and dander from total strangers.
Buyer protection rules I got an ultimately free pc from eBay due to the seller packaging the setup like garbage resulting in a broken ssd, the seller told me it was my issue and I should just use the hdd instead, eBay just sided with me and told me to keep the pc and have my full refund :) seller if your reading next time use some form of packing material, like anything would have been better than the nothing you put in the giant box
When I have researched items, even new and read the reviews, firstly I want something with MANY reviews. Secondly I prefer to read the 2,3 and 4 star reviews as you will often find legitimate REASONS for the review given.
Here's a challenge....I have an RTX2080-Super and want to upgrade. It CAN'T be an Intel or AMD card....has to have more RAM, and be around $300-$400, and has to be Brand New. It also has to be at average 45% more performant. What card is recommended ?
The 6700XT is quite unnecessary for a 1080P build. The difference the eye can see between 65-70 fps and 75-90 Fps is very negligible and Imo, not worth the price jump unless your goal is having a budget 2k setup. I personally managed to get a 6600 RX new and on sale for 182$ and it will run just about any game you throw at it on Ultra settings above 60 FPS. The 6600 RX is also the perfect upgrade for anybody who has an older build that is starting to have a hard time running new AAA titles.

Yea ebay buyer protection is a joke. I order a $300 item that never showed up at me door. The seller refused anything and also threatened me. I provided a negative review because of my customer experience with them and ebay took it down. So I could not even say anything about it.
My work was tossing out a old office pc so I asked to take it, they give it to me and I looked for a decent gpu and found a 1080ti for 100 bucks is it new god no but can it still game definitely but it’s mostly used as a HTPC. Honestly never know what you’re gonna find second hand. If you work at a office or anything similar just ask for a old office pc changes are they have a few waiting to go to ewaste and don’t care

You CANNOT trust Ebay auctions. They allow individual listings to be edited in every way without forcing a new listing. So the # sold, etc could be from when the item currently listed as a 4090 graphics card was previously a bag of squirrels.
used PSU prices that horrible in the US? I mean I know used prices are really bad in the US, but 50$ on a used psu? coudl've gone for a new descent 500w psu for that price. + corsairs Warranty is not transferable
He said that a WHILE ago and he didn't say he was absolutely quitting. As I recall, it was more of he was going to take a step back and maybe upload sporadically, which is what he's been doing for quite some time now.
2:33 lol that's a big fat lie, 2 of the items i sold (i sold a lot) were returned for a reason mentioned in the description but eBay didn't give a dam and forced me to return and even didn't refund the selling fees they took from me for selling the item and also 1 of the return i got was an empty box with a proof video upon receiving it from the mailman and opening the box to be empty didn't even budge eBay and STOLE the money from me to refund. eBay might be good for buyers but a nightmare for sellers.
Used is the way to go, a lot of new parts are way overpriced even in the US not talk about Israel, here the price for new parts in store is usually 1.6-3 times over the US price so I've mostly stopped buying PC parts in store long time ago, order most my stuff from Amazon, Ebay and Aliexpress, much better prices even with the 17% import tax and usually overpriced long time shipping. I can afford to pay those prices I just refuse to. I always say to people VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET, if you don't pay those ridiculace prices than they will have no choice but to lower them just like with the 7900xt for 900$ that almost no 1 bought so the price dropped to a much more reasonable if still overpriced IMO 700$. Or like with storage, remember last year when 1TB nvme sold for 40$ and then they actually said they didn't like those prices so they're going to create a scarcity so the prices will go up and they did, thankfully I stocked up son storage when it was cheap so didn't buy any since the prices went up, let them rot on shelves and the prices will come down to those lvls.
To anyone thinking you can build a decent tower for 500 might want to add another $400 and be prepared to wait weeks to months for RMAs and refunds. just browsing amazon it would make more sense to buy a prebuilt and slap a used video card in it.
Well, Corsair is a... brand, nothing more, not a good PSU brand because they don't manufacture their PSUs, they have good and bad products, so you need to know who is which model from, just saying
I absolutely hate videos like this, not because of the fact that they are using Ebay/Mercari or sites similar to these, but because they NEVER use the Make an offer option. Every single pc i have built since my first in 2014 have ENTIRELY been on Ebay with almost no issue (other than a single dead DDR3 dimm and a Ryzen 9 with a bad Memory controller) and i would SAFELY recommend building using a site like Ebay because of the reasons Kyle has mentioned here. HOWEVER people who make videos like this NEVER talk about the fact that Ebay is an auction site, where you do HAVE the potential to secure an item for less using the bidding option OR taking full advantage of the ability to make an offer on an item.
I hope i get top comment but im a small content creator and i need a good gaming pc if i want to make videos the way i want to because i also want to make vr vids but its just not possible due to the fact that my graphics card isnt good enough to due quest link and my sister wants a better pc as well. You just aren't able to play any good games without a 200 dollar computer anymore and it makes me sad. if you could build a pc for me, my sister and i would be extremely happy. please like this so i can get top comment so he sees this.
I'm am a pc FPS gamer and a $500 gaming pc can't compete against a $500 current gen console. Especially in games that have crossplay. You are better off getting a console at the price point Imo.
Can you PC builder youtube guys stop doing used builds? Every time you guys do a video on this stuff, the used market goes to shit in the USA for a couple weeks. Oz just did a new used build and LTT did scrapyard wars and now rx 5700s are close to $200 again.

My 4070 and i5-13600k PC was 1k USD exactly because i went with a mix of used and open box parts, "nothing beats used parts if you're smart about it"
I have never paid retail for a pc and have never been disappointed, used parts are always the best alternative if you're on a budget, yes you can get ripped off and things can go wrong, but hey that can happen when you buy new as well.
Yo! Shout out Zach's tech turf for the b-roll of his 500$ pc. Could recognize it anywhere lol.
Whenever I get around to upgrading my current system (i9-9900k with a 3080ti), the GPU, RAM and PSU will go into my backup gaming pc.
2nd hand PSUs are fine.
I love your channel man, but since when is gtx 1080ti close to performance with rx 6600? 1080ti is at least 15% faster
I got a 6700XT for $220 shipped. I only play low-res high FPS so I think im set for a couple years
"anything the buyer should be aware of" like its just the box
When I have researched items, even new and read the reviews, firstly I want something with MANY reviews. Secondly I prefer to read the 2,3 and 4 star reviews as you will often find legitimate REASONS for the review given.
Great video should i get a ryzen 5 7600x for a rtx 3080? Its for 3440x1440 i got a gigabyte b650 aero g rm1000x nv7 with alot of fans
Man sad, Man see Kyle, Man Happy
That PC Case Placentia that my neighborhood.
Here's a challenge....I have an RTX2080-Super and want to upgrade. It CAN'T be an Intel or AMD card....has to have more RAM, and be around $300-$400, and has to be Brand New. It also has to be at average 45% more performant. What card is recommended ?
Get a Used 3080 for$375
yeh please make more of such Videos
The 6700XT is quite unnecessary for a 1080P build. The difference the eye can see between 65-70 fps and 75-90 Fps is very negligible and Imo, not worth the price jump unless your goal is having a budget 2k setup.
I personally managed to get a 6600 RX new and on sale for 182$ and it will run just about any game you throw at it on Ultra settings above 60 FPS.
The 6600 RX is also the perfect upgrade for anybody who has an older build that is starting to have a hard time running new AAA titles.
I have the same cpu on the same board in a pc i have up for sale for $540. all Brand new parts:
MSI PRO B660M-A CEC WIFI DDR4 MATX MOTHERBOARD

MONTECH AIR 100 MATX BLACK CASE W/4ARGB FANS
WESTERN DIGITAL BLACK SN750 500GB NVME SSD
PHANTEKS PH-CB24P-BW - BLACK/WHITE 24-PIN CABLE EXTENSION
I got a rtx 4070 for £175 used but I knew the seller personally so I know the cards history.
Yea ebay buyer protection is a joke. I order a $300 item that never showed up at me door. The seller refused anything and also threatened me. I provided a negative review because of my customer experience with them and ebay took it down. So I could not even say anything about it.
Always risk it for the Biscuit 😏
My work was tossing out a old office pc so I asked to take it, they give it to me and I looked for a decent gpu and found a 1080ti for 100 bucks is it new god no but can it still game definitely but it’s mostly used as a HTPC. Honestly never know what you’re gonna find second hand. If you work at a office or anything similar just ask for a old office pc changes are they have a few waiting to go to ewaste and don’t care
I saw you the other day at SB and wanted to say hi but you were with someone lol
Is a r5 5600 and rx 6700xt and 16gb ddr4 (8x2 3200mhz) a good build for $520
hey kyle do you have plans to do a buiild in the lian li sup-01 ?
i got a ASUS ROG Strix B660-A wifi Gaming motherboard and i7 12700kf and ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 Ti White OC and i waiting for Kingston Fury Beast 32GB (2x16GB) Expo / 3200MHz / CL16 and i have no idea if this will be a good pc
Nice content
did bro just say he was quitting this channel, then just keep uploading?
He said that a WHILE ago and he didn't say he was absolutely quitting. As I recall, it was more of he was going to take a step back and maybe upload sporadically, which is what he's been doing for quite some time now.
I replaced my 1060 i bought used in 2019 eith rtx 3060 ti for 200 dollars also used
2:33 lol that's a big fat lie, 2 of the items i sold (i sold a lot) were returned for a reason mentioned in the description but eBay didn't give a dam and forced me to return and even didn't refund the selling fees they took from me for selling the item and also 1 of the return i got was an empty box with a proof video upon receiving it from the mailman and opening the box to be empty didn't even budge eBay and STOLE the money from me to refund. eBay might be good for buyers but a nightmare for sellers.
hell 16gb of ram can bottle neck games now adays with just having another tab up in a browser
Cool !
Show me the CPUFax..... if only.
Eh no
Asus has a 0 day warranty.
Not all items for sale give the make an offer option, sometime it's only "Buy Now". But you can always filter a search for that option.
@@marcusdamberger I'm completely aware of that, but the fact remains that NOBODY even mentions the fact it's there
bring back Lyle!
Bro last video i saw was prolly you leaving gaming content

I hope i get top comment but im a small content creator and i need a good gaming pc if i want to make videos the way i want to because i also want to make vr vids but its just not possible due to the fact that my graphics card isnt good enough to due quest link and my sister wants a better pc as well. You just aren't able to play any good games without a 200 dollar computer anymore and it makes me sad. if you could build a pc for me, my sister and i would be extremely happy.
please like this so i can get top comment so he sees this.
hey bit!
First view and comment! Gimme a sticker! Nvm. I'm not first. Lol

I'm am a pc FPS gamer and a $500 gaming pc can't compete against a $500 current gen console. Especially in games that have crossplay. You are better off getting a console at the price point Imo.
So who else was waiting for the build? wtf was this? Just talking about common sense shit? I want the past 12 minutes of my life back...
Can you PC builder youtube guys stop doing used builds? Every time you guys do a video on this stuff, the used market goes to shit in the USA for a couple weeks. Oz just did a new used build and LTT did scrapyard wars and now rx 5700s are close to $200 again.

Only 3 days (NOT 30) on eBay when seller does not accept returns. Been selling on eBay for 25 years. More misinformation from a "UA-camr" or "Influencer" as usual.
