- Although the consumption of beef is frowned upon or even banned in some Indian states and religions, there are places where it is quire common. The southern state of Kerala is one such place and this beef curry recipe is really fantastic - fruity tamarind and tomato balanced with coconut flavour - you'll love it!

Cilantro is something I grow all year round. Great for Indian and Mexican dishes and a good garnish and great in salsas.
I love a coconut based beef curry, ideally made with ox cheek.
Thanks for this comment, I've got some ox cheek so may subsitute it for the stewing beef!
Going to try this during the weekend! Thank you!
Awwww thanks Keef.....presentation was brilliant.....definitely going to do this at the weekend ❤
Ey up our lad our goer Keef. This beef curry recipe truly encapsulates the rich culinary heritage of Kerala. It's fascinating how food traditions vary across regions in India, yet they all contribute to the country's vibrant gastronomic tapestry. The combination of tangy tamarind, ripe tomatoes, and creamy coconut sounds absolutely mouthwatering-I can't wait to give it a try! It's refreshing to see diverse recipes like this being shared, highlighting the beauty of cultural exchange through food. Thanks for sharing this delicious gem!
Regarding the corriander, although I like it, I can see where the "tastes like soap" contingent are coming from - and they're in good company: Michel Roux Sr. was in this camp, I gather from watching at least one of the Rouxs' videos.
Looks delicious. 👍💯💥✨️
Fess up, Keef - what's your honest opinion about the taste of ginger and garlic paste? I'll also confess that sometimes when I'm cooking a South Indian dish I've been known to add brown sauce instead of tamarind paste. Of course, tamarind is a major ingredient of brown sauce so it works rather well. Your recipe does look appetising and it reminds me of the hot/sour combinations so beloved in South India, especially vindaloo dishes which often include pork. I'd like to see you turn your hand to a vindaloo - it doesn't need to be particularly fiery.
Do you know what, I've never actually considered the taste of ginger garlic paste - I assume it's the same as if you mince ginger and garlic yourself. Am I missing something?
@@Keefcooks I've used commercial ginger and garlic paste in stir-fries and found it to be rather insipid compared to fresh or frozen. Garlic keeps well so I have no problems storing it. However, root ginger deteriorates fairly quickly, so I always peel it as soon as I buy it, then freeze it whole. Whilst frozen, I can then grate it and it grates so much more easily than fresh ginger! It also tastes just as good. Perhaps you might care to experiment and see how this technique works for you?
I don’t like coriander as a garnish 🤢 l cant explain why but if it is hidden in salsa etc its fine. Love a good curry ❤️👍🏼😘
Seems like a contradiction in flavors to me - curry combined with fruit - but I'll take your word for it.
The fruit is tamarind which is in many curries. Curry raisin chicken salad is also one of the best things there is.
Coriander is an delicious herb, and definitely does not taste of soap.
Hi Keef,
I hate the smell and the taste of coriander but my wife makes me eat it. She hides it in my food. No respect.
As a side note, I came across this: ua-cam.com/video/RZtPynXsFas/v-deo.html which might aid the people who dislike corriander.
Interesting!
It tastes like soap
Not a big fan of coriander. Pungent, overwhelms all other aromas and flavours, and frankly I don't like its taste or smell. I usually replace it with parsley.
Sorry m8, you must be in the minority 🤷🏻♂️,
A staple & garnish of 99% of all curries 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Looks absolutely gorgeous! I'm so hungry right now, wound snaffle that down without batting an eye. Yum!
Great colour in that sauce Keef! Keralan and Rendang are my two favourite beef curries. Nice presentation too! 👍
This looks great, when I make it, I'm one of those who will leave out the cilantro!
I think it tastes of soap and I like it.
It’s missing 5 pints of cheap lager (for the authentic taste)
C'mon, it's not a vindaloooo!
