Ey up Keef! Watching this Swedish Cabbage Pudding video has got me proper intrigued, I tell ya! Who'd have thought cabbage could be so darn exciting? Layers of meaty goodness sandwiched between cabbage and onion, with a dollop of lingonberry jam on the side - it's like a taste of Sweden right in your kitchen! And that gravy? Proper lush! Can't wait to give it a whirl and add a bit of Yorkshire flair to me dinner table!
Sounds awful. But probably nice. I like properly prepared cabbage in butter. Ok . My update. I see all the ingredients, wow looks good. I must have a go. My wife is an ex chef, but I will take over for once, I can do this. Many thanks.
In the USA there's a casserole that's called "lazy man cabbage roll" -- minced beef, onion, cabbage, tinned diced tomato in tomato sauce, plus seasonings. On UA-cam I've made the version by "Grandma Feral" (name of her channel). Nice way to eat cabbage.
I sometimes find myself with leftover cabbage from some other recipe and I'm never quite sure what to do with it because I've never been a huge fan of cabbage if it's not part of some larger recipe. This recipe sounds ideal since I also tend to have ground meat that needs using too. White pepper can be a hassle since in the USA - at least where I live - it's treated like some Grade A rare spice like mace or cloves, so it costs $6 for a tiny amount. I'm thinking of venturing into Canada to see if it's any cheaper there, unless someone in the US knows a good place to get it cheap. I know it costs far less in the UK so I have this aversion to paying an exorbitant amount for it. I use quite a lot making pork pies.
Hi. You can use black pepper if you like, no problem. Many people do here in Scandinavia as well. When I grew up white pepper was the common spice. Black pepper was mostly used when making meat soup, and then whole pepper corns. Cheers from north Sweden, a two and a half hours drive north of the Arctic Circle
Hmm, interesting dish. 🤔 Cabbage rolls are a regular thing here in Alberta and the filling is much the same but it's wrapped up in a softened cabbage leaf, like a sausage roll, and they're cooked in a tomato based sauce. Nice variation though. 😊
That looked tasty, after you were finished 🙂. Was not expecting it to be while you were performing. Looks interesting enough to have a go and I will take your point about maybe being under seasoned.
I made the mistake of watching this when I'm hungry. Now all i want is a plateful of that! It looks so good, total comfort food. Mmmm.
That was a nice surprise to see a Swedish dish. I never have rice in my Kålpudding and prefer black pepper over white pepper.
Oh, it's like cabbage rolls but with much less work :D
Yes - that was my first thought too!
Yep. Just a deconstructed cabbage roll.

Tallow. Use to use that to lubricate cutting dies. Good stuff.
Winner 👍🏼 going to have a go at that as almost like stuffed cabbage and love that too thanks Jan ❤️
Adventurous Keef
Love anything cabbage myself!

Cabbage pudding? Give me some time to wrap my head around that.
It is very good, taste ❤
They must have a different definition of pudding.
I think the strange (to us) measurements are metric measuring cups. You can get them online. Not surprisingly from a few Scandinavian websites.

Keefy can you make sri lankan beef pancake rolls. You'll love em.
Looks great!
I love cabbage.
Looks great! The name is intimidating, but all said and done it’s more like meatloaf with a side of cooked cabbage by proportions, so it sounds great!
I thought the title said "Garbage pudding" at first glance. 😆 🤣 😂
Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.
😆
this sounds absolutely fuego. if i make it im gonna cut some of the meat and add more cabbage though, im a cabbage fiend.

Looks like cabbage meatloaf
That looks delicious! 😋 you make so many things I've never heard of...it's why I keep coming back 😊 that, and your wonderful sense of humour.
Thanks Cheryl!
Käl has a cognate in English, which is cole. Cole is a brassica like cabbage, kale and kohlrabi.

Between Keef and the Swedish Chef from the Muppets, I'm learning all I need to know about Swedish Cuisine.
