1:00 "The traffic AI doesn't allow a vehicle to enter the intersection if there isn't space for a vehicle on the other side" - Cities Skyline traffic AI is already 10x smarter then average human driver...
SERIOUSLY! I was driving in Santa Monica, CA, and I saw people in traffic behind me DRIVE ONTO METRO TRACKS and wait there because traffic was pooling. My goodness people can be so dumb!
@Andrew 1010 That is my biggest wish! First you set a road, big or small, then you click on the road sections and change the behavior of that particular route and the game automatically combines the other sections. You don't need more than 30 streets in your construction list, you only need 2 and the street tool in the game.
All my industries are always on one corner of the map, yes there is heavy taffic and I only use one 3 lane highway in and out of that area, all 3 lanes full of taffic but it moves, it can be done, i play on console so I'm very limited.
What I do with an industrial area is place a direct single lane in from the main highway and a dedicated underground road towards the exit. And all the roads are one way leading to the exit. The only problem here is the services. Oh and I've only tried this in a small city area, not yet in a humongous city yet.
The two videos in this short series were a lot of fun to create, and I hope they are helpful to both unmodded and modded players, as a lot of the concepts carry over into modded gameplay as well!
After all this time I finally know WHY you never put service buildings on main roads. You would think I'd have figured that out by now, but noooooo.... This is why I'm an accountant and not a city planner :)
Part of my problem, despite a good 80% traffic flow, is not having the roads I'd like to use. For example, I'll used a six lane road with trees when I'd much rather have a four lane version. Roads I'd like to use don't exist and I have no idea how to create them myself.
@@bassdrumflextime1253 When did I said it’s his fault? I said it to Cities skyline so they could notice me and change the airport. But it’s very unlikely cause they are big Dev, not as dedicated as small Dev.
Hey, I have been playing with cities skylines for a bit and I've always encountered the situation when I have a three-lane highway and despite the fact that the next intersection is more than 100 units away, all of the vehicules queue up in one of the lanes
Yeah, that's in a nutshell the Achilles' heel of C:S. Traffic is clueless, and your options are near-nil. Even an advance left turn signal would be nice. Never going to happen in vanilla. Still absolutely amazing that C:S has 10 modes of transportation but not even one advanced traffic signal. Lead left turns are at your own risk, it seems. Disastrously designed traffic model.
Typically that happens because straight through traffic is being held up by turning traffic. Reduce the number of lanes on the destination side of the intersection until you get dedicated turning lanes and through lanes.
Lane Priority, Lane Priority... GDAMN Lane Priority and Lane Sharing. Stay in lane with less turnoffs ahead until you get near your turn off then start SLOWLY switching lanes. Let me give you an example, I have a diamond off ramp 200-300 meters away from the main highway stack interchange, there are two curves in the highway. First Traffic piles up on the left and right output lane because the pass through lane is using the lane closest to the ramp in. Second all lines converge aggressively into following the apex of the highway, vehicles will slow down and turn horizontally into traffic from lane 3 to 1. Cars might need to be aware of other cars around them, but every car using a single lane because its technically "faster" is a real killer. Some other things, whats up with all the cars making U turns, Tax's, (idk why my public transport loses money all stops are maxed???). And what the holy damn is up with the amount of traffic cargo terminals make. Also buses shouldn't block a lane just to turn in, and buses waiting shouldn't either. Also... a public transport need overlay would be super decent...... IMO roundabouts should work out of the gate with this fix, as the cars will turn into the appropriate lane and downstep till their turnoff, instead of using one lane to make all turnoffs. Also setting terminals for input/output only, for industry exports.
I just use one way roads all the time. Works for me since the cars literally can't turn and hence there is no logical way for there to be traffic. It isn't pretty but it works.
I never play without Traffic Manager PE, but it would be insanely useful if the game allowed you to change the lane arrows without using mods or fiddling with different number of lanes to try to "trick" the game into creating a turning lane...
The biggest problem I have is buses take way to long at one stop, if a second bus comes along then there's taffic cause the stupidity of the drives don't drive around in to the second lane.
Novadays i see a spread of "FIX Cities traffic" videos on youtube... and these always start with "MOD, MOD, MOD, MOD, MOD,"... intead of thinking a bit. I saw 350k cities without traffic ai or lane changer mods, with high traffic flow... Since that traffic mods means lazyness to me!
I disagree. While its important to plan out your city in a way that traffic works without requiring mods, the traffic mods often add things that should also be in the base game. Or at least that make complete sense from a traffic engineers perspective. The base game simply lacks some very basic mechanics that these mods add.
ledgeri the traffic mods like TMPE actually add realism, they aren’t a chesty way of doing things since people generally want to make realistic cities. Things like turning lanes, and special traffic arrangements are made possible with TMPE, which can only be a good thing. The game will default, for example, to letting cars cross from one on-ramp to another off-ramp on a national highway if they are on the same node, but normally this wouldn’t be allowed in real life, so TMPE allows for you to change that to how it should be. You can also make times traffic lights, a feature which vanilla does not offer but which is very realistic in cities!
ledgeri and what’s more, there base game doesn’t have a concept of slip roads for highways, since a car will swerve into whatever lane it feels like! So the lane selectors are another realism necessity... that does not happen in real life.
chongjunxiang3002 The problem isn’t the AI, it’s the limited hardware most people are playing the game on. If he had quantum computers we could enjoy an intelligent AI.
I hate the single-lane fixation thing the AI does. If there's even more than 1 lane going to the same place, they will only ever use the 1, even if it means waiting in line for 2 miles next to a clear and empty lane that goes directly to their destination (with fewer lane changes required, even!) Can you imagine, in the real world, if there were 2 turn lanes at a signal and cars were only in 1. Imagine standing in that remaining lane; just how long until you're turned to hamburger by the mad rush of cars cutting the line? 5 seconds, if everyone is sedated?
Côté Fabrice A massive industrial district can be fine if you have a proper highway system going around and through it (and you keep it in a separate location from your other districts).
Still think you should add that mod where you can tell the AI cars which lane to use, if they need to turn a certain corner. (Not sure of the name of said mod!)

3 Lane asymmetrical roads don't get the credit they deserve, really useful roads. Great video 👍
Indeed! They really could be used a lot more.

@Andrew 1010 You're asking too much of them.
Honestly for German cities at least, those asymmetrical roads are the reason why traffic is still working. We got some two+six lane combinations here.
Great job, everyone loves a bit of traffic fixing 😀👍
Yes but not to much:)
Thanks!
For a traffic video this certainly covers a wide range of topics. I won't zone one big industry anymore. 👍

@@DazzBeat you must have a good road system

Well said!
When planning a district you can improve flow by zoning properly
70% Residential /10% Commercial 15% Office
Have each district use proper Bus/Subway
Imagine how much more control you would have with traffic president
Ascdren yes exactly. Although it’s so annoying it’s nice that c:s leave certain features to moddeds
Although it's a fantastic mod, Traffic Manager takes a heavy toll on your computer though, which many players can't handle or choose not to =)
Cities: Skylines Official like me xd. I love it but the moment I activate my FPS drops a lot. What’s the launch option the disables workshop
The tips in this video as well as the road hierarchy video I did last week are useful even when using TM:PE.

do you have plan to make it multiplay? and also war between players and player attack lands and see whose land function much longer

it makes the road a priority road.. causing the other roads that connect to it to give way to the cars coming from this priority road
