Fucking Big Time. Unbelievable Live Band. Big Tone cracking out the Bass Lines with Mark as a Rythm section, plus the Legend that is Stu and Bruce's Bag Pipe Guitars! 😁❤ I know everyone says this shit on here but This Lot are a properly underrated Band.

They really didn't like that comparison. I've seen it brought up in an old interview somewhere here on youtube & the whole band sort of groan in unison at the suggestion.
As a guitarist myself, I suspect they're just using a similar scale to classic bagpipe music & that's where the similarity comes from.
Whatever it is it's awesome, & unique in rock guitar playing. Phenomenal band.

    • @eddievhfan1984
      @eddievhfan1984 4 роки тому +6

@@myfrequencies1912 More than just the use of major scales and trills. The guitar tone in particular is evocative of pipes. Lots of compression before distortion, to create smoothly sustaining tones that don't lose harmonics over time. And the pitch shifter detuning also creates thickness like a chorus slightly detuned pipes. It may not have been intended, but I can see where it comes from.

    • @englundus
      @englundus 3 роки тому +5

For 25 years, I thought they had a piper in the band! And I thought "What a fantastic piper! Comes on on time and on key every time and plays his notes and drops off!"

    "In A Big Country"
    Ha
I've never seen you look like this without a reason
Another promise fallen through, another season passes by you
    Shock
I never took the smile away from anybody's face
And that's a desperate way to look for someone who is still a child
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Stay alive
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in a desert
But I can live and breathe and see the sun in wintertime
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Stay alive
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Stay alive
So take that look out of here, it doesn't fit you
Because it's happened doesn't mean you've been discarded
Pull up your head off the floor, come up screaming
Cry out for everything you ever might have wanted
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered
    Shock, 1, 2
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in a desert
But I can live and breathe and see the sun in wintertime
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Stay alive
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Stay alive
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Stay alive

    Shock

just a thought. when I first heard this song at age 16 I was totally shocked. the threat of a world nuclear event was real. I remember worrying about it. then i heard this song and thought - this ain't U2. I realized after hearing Chance that BC was a band I could never fully understand, but I wanted to, and the music & lyrics were so brilliant, I just thought - go for it. BC has been a true friend. Inspiration. Mirror. I don't credit Stuart for everything, as much as I miss him each day. I credit Mark, Bruce and Tony and Stuart. Listen to that bass line. Listen to perfect beat and fills that would make Peart envious. And rhythm that matches anything. Wonderland still makes me stop breathing.

Duane Boswell As fine as Stuart was (and indeed he was), the band was a synergistic effort that easily transcended just Stuart. And it grows a bit tiresome to continue to listen to so many who cannot or do not appreciate the quality of musicianship that is the rest of the band as it and they are far too under-appreciated.

Stupid comment to say anyone member is the band, Stuart was the driving force but he wasnt Mark Brezicki or Tony Butler or Bruce Watson all of whom created the bands unique sound between them collectively and realised with Stuart a fine sound indeed.

    • @sdushdiu
      @sdushdiu 9 років тому +5

Paul Ockenden Absolutely, while Stuart indeed deserves credit for some fine songs and performances, it is INDEED the ENTIRE BAND that makes BC SO special. A fact that is too often overlooked or simply under acknowledged.

@@cejannuzi it goes way beyond the music, but the sound of the band is made up of four instruments and two voices. the other three members of the band are not bit players. they are integral - every one of them - to the magic that happened when their best music was created. stuart is irreplaceable because he was a unique vocalist, a unique and extremely gifted guitar player AND the poet delivering the message driven by the music created by himself and the other three. what happened to the band after he died proves nothing. would Stuart's impending solo career have been a success? the band was the vehicle that allowed him to be the supreme performer he undoubtedly was. Bruce Watson is himself a fantastic player; his parts are original as hell and he hardly ever fucks up. and as for Mark and Tony, they are the engine. both players are technically top drawer and they created some truly unique sounding music. you are talking about a rare chemistry that exists between members of a band which creates an energy that one person alone simply cannot create.

agree on the perfection of these ones. to me, look away, 13v, wonderland and IaBC are up there with the bestest music ever written, like rush's power windows. it's not really music, it's.... i have no words for it, maybe only love is better than that)). and i know it sounds silly, but to me it's like that. small wonder that even Stewart et al. couldn't create something even nicer.

What I was describing was technique of the time. This tune has more feeling in it compared to a song that simply has someone stomping all over it playing crazy fast. So, I agree that its GREAT MUSIC. And it's the Scotts Riffs that Make it Great. Course they ARE SCOTTs. Along with the happy faces they presented on stage made them fun to watch. Little known that the lead singer was really sick and needed mental help. BUT, they stayed away from each other outside playing and never knew he was sick

Some said there was some sort of bloodline connection between me and the black Scotsman and if you knew my real (Complicated) family its certainly plausible, way back then the same people asked me for some sort of a message for these guys and guess what, it was simply "STAY ALIVE"...
The song always lifted me, not so much now, weird world...

I've never seen you look like this without a reason
    Otra promesa incumplida
    Another promise fallen through
    Otra temporada pasa por ti
    Another season passes by you
I never took the smile away from anybody's face
And that's a desperate way to look
Para alguien que todavía es un niño.
For someone who is still a child
In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Mantente vivo, aquí vamos
    Stay alive, here we go
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered
No espero cultivar flores en un desierto
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in a desert
    Pero puedo vivir y respirar
But I can live and breathe
Y ver el sol en invierno
And see the sun in wintertime
In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Quedarse vivo
    Stay alive
In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Quedarse vivo
    Stay alive
So take that look out of here it doesn't fit you
Because it's happened doesn't mean you've been discarded
Levanta la cabeza del suelo, sube gritando
Pull up your head off the floor, come up screaming
Clama por todo lo que siempre quisiste
Cry out for everything you ever might have wanted
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered, see ya
No espero cultivar flores en un desierto
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in a desert
    Pero puedo vivir y respirar
But I can live and breathe
Y ver el sol en invierno
And see the sun in wintertime
In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Quedarse vivo
    Stay alive
    Jaja
In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Quedarse vivo
    Stay alive
In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
    Quedarse vivo
    Stay alive

3rd. THE PROBLEM with FIELDS of FIRE and BIG COUNTRY is that they were SO GOOD and SO NEW to listeners, what with the Scottish marching band riffs and all the FOLK tunes that they "Folded" into their songs JUST FLOORED everyone. So, HOW do you TOP THAT? Almost, almost like what do you do when your FIRST known TUNES do so well across the world? BUT, there are SO MANY BANDS just like this one. They write and produce a TOTAL HIT that EVERYONE likes, I dont know ANYONE that doesnt like this tune,

they were led or allowed themselves to be led towards the middle of the road, when it is proven that the best way to survive long-term is to stay creatively leftfield. they had hits in the uk and were seen as a pop act by anyone who hadn't seen them live or listened in more depth. tunes like the crossing and porrohman showed the band taking a piece of music for a real walk. more progressive rock than pop. the introduction of keys and bvs (although they do sound pretty good on this recording) was a step too far for Mark, and a lot of other fans jumped ship with him. they started off SO original (AND successful!) and ended up american MOR. fucking tragic story. i wish the rest of the band every success and happiness in their lives. Stuart RIP.

No problem and Dude, one thing about me is that I really dont do mean comments on line. I DO state my opinions thats about it. I truly believe that if ALL you have to Say is Negative, Dont Say It. Why is this saying SO IMPORTANT to ME? Because it covers so much. Such as the ME Fallacy. And also keeps my Negativity away from coming back on me as well. Now for the BAND..they COULD have done SO MUCH MORE its a crying shame that their following LPs never did anything over hear. Some of their best
