I wish more videogame company would take the time to make masterpiece like RDR 2.

John is already coded as a separate character, and it has been that way since early development. NPC John is the only character in the game besides Arthur and epilogue John who has player skeleton, and shares many things with epilogue John, proving epilogue John existed for most of the main story's development. Truth is no one knows why John's correct beta model was scrapped and replaced with Arthur Marston, when they could have fixed all issues with the beta John model instead
It seems very fitting that RDR2 is more detailed and vivid looking while being set before RDR1. The graphics are more fluid and theres more to do. Its like real life, as you get older life can seem more rigid and limiting than it used to.

john’s epilogue model is literally just arthur but they slapped a poor impression of john’s face onto it. they literally had a fully finished model with its own weight system and hair styles, but still decided to give us whatever this is. they literally use arthur’s sound file for when he vomits. why? they had a fully finished model of john for the epilogue that they just decided not to use and actively made him look worse through patches
Obviously RDR2 is better in most areas. But RDR 1 was ground breaking and started the whole thing, and was still amazing for the time period that it came out. I mean it's 15yrs old and people are still playing it today. There are only a few games that have that kind of staying power. And not only that, but it's still pulling in new fans that have never even played it before. That shows its true value to gaming. And don't get me wrong, RDR2 is also ground breaking. But it's a sequel/prequel. And no matter how good it is it's still sort of a copy of the original. So in heart the first will always be special. But I do play the hell out of the second one as well. I'm literally on my tenth or eleventh playthrough on story mode... It's very rare that any game yanks me in like that.

John from RDR 1 looks slightly "chubbier", perhaps because his body model from RDR 2 is the same as Arthur's. They wanted to make him look younger, so I don't see it as a downgrade. He looks taller on RDR 2 too.
