The Joker is a supervillain created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane, and Jerry Robinson who first appeared in the debut issue of the comic book Batman (April 25, 1940), published by DC Comics. Credit for the Joker's creation is disputed; Kane and Robinson claimed responsibility for the Joker's design while acknowledging Finger's writing contribution. Although the Joker was planned to be killed off during his initial appearance, he was spared by editorial intervention, allowing the character to endure as the archenemy of the superhero Batman.
In his comic book appearances, the Joker is portrayed as a criminal mastermind. Introduced as a psychopath with a warped, sadistic sense of humor, the character became a goofy prankster in the late 1950s in response to regulation by the Comics Code Authority, before returning to his darker roots during the early 1970s. As Batman's nemesis, the Joker has been part of the superhero's defining stories, including the murder of Jason Todd-the second Robin and Batman's ward-and the paralysis of one of Batman's allies, Barbara Gordon. The Joker has had various possible origin stories during his decades of appearances. The most common story involves him falling into a tank of chemical waste which bleaches his skin white and turns his hair green and lips bright red; the resulting disfigurement drives him insane. The antithesis of Batman in personality and appearance, the Joker is considered by critics to be his perfect adversary.
The Joker possesses no superhuman abilities, instead using his expertise in chemical engineering to develop poisonous or lethal concoctions, and thematic weaponry, including razor-tipped playing cards, deadly joy buzzers, and acid-spraying lapel flowers. The Joker sometimes works with other Gotham City supervillains such as the Penguin and Two-Face, and groups like the Injustice Gang and Injustice League, but these relationships often collapse due to the Joker's desire for unbridled chaos. The 1990s introduced a romantic interest for the Joker in his former psychiatrist, Harley Quinn, who becomes his villainous sidekick. Although his primary obsession is Batman, the Joker has also fought other heroes including Superman and Wonder Woman.
One of the most iconic characters in popular culture, the Joker has been listed among the greatest comic book villains and fictional characters ever created. The character's popularity has seen him appear on a variety of merchandise, such as clothing and collectible items, inspire real-world structures (such as theme park attractions), and be referenced in a number of media. The Joker has been adapted to serve as Batman's adversary in live-action, animated, and video game incarnations, including the 1960s Batman television series played by Cesar Romero and in films by Jack Nicholson in Batman (1989) and Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight (2008). Mark Hamill, Troy Baker, and others have provided the character's voice.
Jerome Valeska was a deranged, criminally insane murderer. He was the more anarchistic twin brother of the obsessive and methodical criminal mastermind, Jeremiah Valeska.

Yeah, I thought that was ridiculous. It seems he was just gong with who looked closest to the traditional comics Joker, rather than who was actually the best film version of the Joker.

I know and I know he's the Joker but this isn't the character nor the story that we know, is what I mean. It's effectively a brand new movie with a brand new story. When I say he's not really the Joker, that's not an insult or a criticism.

Ricky Of The Ranch Joker is the comics is usually portrayed as a criminal mastermind with a twisted sense of humor, Arthur Flecks character doesn't have a sense of humor and isn't smart. He gets fired for bringing a gun into a children's hospital. That's not society being bad that legitimately would look like he was going to shoot them, considering he isn't known to be associated with organized crime and he has purchased the gun illegally. He also is very weird around children in public which is the last thing someone trying to get away with crimes would do.

I like the Jerome look before the acid bath and his mannerisms too. I like how they turned down the fits of laughter to just giggles and when he did laugh shit got real. He's a much more cool and collected joker that has fits of insanity which to me made him unpredictable alot more menacing, kind of a hannibal vibe.

One of my favorite versions of the Joker has to be John Doe from the Telltale Batman games. It's a really unique take on the character, with a great voice and suits to go along with it.

My favorite makeup for Joker is Jack Nicholson's because his skin is completely bleached with no flesh color whatsoever, his lips are the perfect shade of red for me, & his hair is a nice shade of green, not to light, not to dark.
I never liked Heath Ledger's makeup, but I love his costume, save for the grey suit jacket under the trench coat.

I don't like make up Joker , a big part in almost every of his origin stories is that he fell into a vat of chemicals that bleached his skin . So his clown look is permanent, only giving him make up makes him less like the Joker for me

He’s not the DC Universe Joker. He’s never going to face off against the Batman, he doesn’t follow the conventions of the character. Joker is a stand-alone film inspired by DC comics but it’s not an adaptation.

Origins is best of the Arkham games, but if you mix the Valeska twins together you get the best possible design. Just take Jerome and colourize him like Jeremiah.
I think we can all agree that the dark knight’s Joker was GREAT, it captured his insanity and murderous acts perfectly but it also had him as a down to earth person making it feel like he’s actually a person and not some movie actor

As the Joker's look typically utilizes a clown aesthetic, I would say that Jerome's look (specifically his Season 4 outfit) channels more of an 80s/90s Stand-up Comedian aesthetic.

He's just a very different character than most other incarnations. All others (okay, excepting some rare Elseworlds) are villains, characters who actively seek to antagonize Gotham either for self-gain or some principle. They lead goons, they use the funnyman as a conscious part of their persona. Fleck is a very different beast than that.
Doctor Whouse he wreaks havoc on Gotham partially because he’s a narcissist in the film and doesn’t gain the recognition he thinks he deserves, he also very much does have goons. Watch the movie.

Don't get me wrong, he embraces the attention, he thrives being an inspiration, and he loves seeing the city burn... but he didn't directly do any of that. His actions snowballed into it, but his intentions were always personal (and somewhat immediate, as opposed to the chessmaster most of his other versions are). Even when he's being celebrated by the crowd, that crash only happened by chance.
I loved the film and could empathize with his feelings of vindication at that moment, but he is not The Clown Prince of Crime, nor do I think he intends to be in the future.

He was never really Arthur, he was always joker, it just took him time to evolve. The movie even hints at adoption, meaning he could've been named something entirely different at birth.

everyone watching this should know that jerome and jeremiah were not supposed to be the ‘joker’ because they were not allowed to give him that title. the two were intended to be the inspiration for when the real joker came into place.
Think im in the minority here, however i really liked letos look. However with the trailers and the leaked scene i saw, Phoenix has nailed it. I look foward to see who plays joker in reeves trilogy.

Screw the classic joker. In my opinion the one that is the most thought out is the best. Heath Ledger's was recognizable and thought out. Also, Arkham Joker isn't live action lol. CGI.

Also, being recognizable doesn’t instantly mean it’s a good representation of the character. It’s the same reason everyone thinks Superman is boring. Movies and other TV media have portrayed him as invincible, all powerful and blandly good when in reality he’s more complex than that in the source material. Ledgers Joker was good, yes. But he was definitely not an accurate (or dare I say it, good) representation of what the Joker really is.
But that’s just my two cents.

I, for one, say this gent's surprising placements actually made the video MORE worth the watch. Having said that, if you can give the LEGO Batman Joker a nod, you can certainly give the Animated Series Joker a nod. I'm aware that both that and the Arkham games are voiced by Mark Hamill, but you never get the Arkham game design without the brilliant design in the Animated Series first. You could even argue it's a cinematic Joker, since he appeared in Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, which was released theatrically. THAT Joker is the gold standard, and I'm surprised it was omitted.
Joaquin Joker IS the Joker. Maybe not DCEU, but still the comic character.
The movie takes place in Gotham even.

"mr J" aka acid dipped jeremiah (love it) reminds me of 'Darth sidious' and the more classic joker looks had fused.
Joaquin’s joker movie was much more drama than action. But that was the only think that disappointed me.

I like Joaquin Phoenix's look as an alternate earth Joker look but not as a Joker look. The idea to make it an elseworld story makes the look great but put him in earth 1 and Idk the serial killer clown thing is cool but it's missing so much but put him in an alternate earth I'd understand since this is a new take on the Joker.
