There is some Behind the Scenes footage of that moment from different angles with more light, where we see more of the dragon tattoo than we do in the movie proper. It was also confirmed that it was the same dragon on 2 officials pieces of merchandise: the METAL Die-Cast Joker statue (shirtless), and the DC's COLLECTIBLE SS Joker statue sculpted by the very talented James Marsano. We might get a better look at the DCEU Joker's back in the Ayer cut, somehow? Not sure what the circumstances might be, but there are quite a few extra scenes with the Joker in it, after all... (I really want to see his tête-à-tête with Enchantress, and then his face-off with the Squad when he comes to take Harley back).
Leto wanted to be Heath Ledger so bad but didn't ever know what made Heath Ledger's Joker special, he tried staying in character off screen during production just like Heath but to him that apparently meant "send used condoms to your co-stars".
And worse of all, what is even the joke there? If he's acting like the Joker the condom thing should be a ironic statement or a punchline. Either he just thought "Joker = Weird" or we're missing the setup of his joke.
Ledger wasn't even like that, between scenes he was extremely respectful and inquisitive according to his co-stars and Christopher Nolan. There was a level of method there but he wasn't Joker 24/7.
@@Ethan-wr2osoff screen He locked himself in a room for hours playing the Joker in front of a mirror for practice. I was kinda expecting the one from the 2004 series “The Batman” to be on here. Honestly, that one is probably one of my favorites for how unique he is. Usually the Joker is portrayed as a psychotic party clown, or just a psycho in clown makeup. What made that version unique was that he was a psychotic, acrobatic circus clown. It’s kind of a shame that idea isn’t used as much
Crazy Hobo Joker is the Joker I grew up with. Kevin Michael Richardson made that version of the character unique without trying to copy Hamill like others do. Also The Batman 2004 cartoon is seriously underrated.
The best part about 2004 Joker is that they didn’t focus on the angle of “He’s Batman’s enemy”. They focused on “He’s a clown”, and that made it so his plans were always interesting.
@@RookTVchannel They also made his dark psychotic personality work, in the future its implied that he crippled Barbara Gordon and I can actually believe that because we've seen him drive Ethan Bennet insane
The most ironic thing for me is Jared Leto was the first actor to have the slender skinny body type of comic book Joker. He could have been at least visually a perfect adaptation, if not acting wise, but instead of sticking to the classic they thought they knew better. All you had to do was painting this guy green, white and give him a purple suit.
I hate Leto as an actor and a human I literally avoid everything he’s in If I can but I agree with this, his body type and look could’ve been utilised if they gave him the classic joker look
What are you talking about? Heath Ledger was the first actor to have that body type for the Joker on screen. He was skinny af, Jared Leto is ripped compared to him. Just look at those shirtless tattoo pics, he looks tone as hell. Ledger had the perfect physique for the role. How did this comment get so many likes?
I think if I ever wrote a Joker part for a larger superhero movie, I'd almost write him like the protagonist of a screwball comedy... Like every time we see him he's in the middle of some bizarre situation, and you ALMOST forget what kind of movie you're watching... Until he resolves his situation by killing someone.
Young Justice Joker is ironically funny to me because he always looks so confidence when he pulls out his knives to fight super heros. Who seriously thought to give Joker knives? I don't know how many people notice this but Joker is the opposite of Batman in terms of Batman has muliple gadgets on him at all times while Joker instead of carrying a bunch of weapons like to focus on a small list weapons a lot of the time.
Tbh I like when the Joker uses gimmicky murder gadgets he rigs up kinda like an acid flower on his suit and a knife in his shoe that he can sheathe when he wants to conceal it. Pretty much I feel like injustice the games series is a pretty good representation of how Joker could seriously fight although Arkham isn't a bad representation either. I like when Joker is some kinda of threat in a fight. The dark Knight movie was good at it too but just set the Joker more ominous and unpredictable threat rather than all out fighting but he indeed always had a plan just wanted you to think it was all random but yet he always comes prepared lol
Heath Ledger's Joker LOVED using knives, but he used guns, rocket launchers, shoe blades and anything else at his disposal. He truly was an Agent of Chaos.
The fact that they got Brent Spiner to play him in YJ... You have to have some truly terrible writing to make that man seem like he can't act. What a waste. Apparently the character designers were inspired to make him look like Lupin the 3rd. It really shows how much they thought that their inspiration ALONE would make it work.
The big problem? Joker was made to look sexy and edgy. They wanted to sell merch at hot topic and have young girls want a relationship like harley and joker. It was a gimic.
They didn't even had to do that. Ledgers Joker looks like a greasy wet rat and that doesn't stop girls from writing self-insert on ao3. If anything, Leto's looks gives me the ick :/
This is really making me ponder on what makes the Joker seem like the Joker. Like, I would hand on heart swear that Cameron Monaghan's "Not-The-Joker" character from Gotham looks more like the Joker than Jared Leto's incarnation... but he doesn't even have green hair, or the name, and he looks Joker-like right from his first appearance. HOWWWWW.
It's the spirit of it I guess? And the fact that Gotham generally changed up a lot of the characters. Jonathan Crane isn't even the one to mix up the fear toxin. He gets dosed with a gas that was meant to cure fear and then got shipped off to Arkham to be abused and tortured. Jerome doesn't have to have green hair, he's already a clown since he grew up in the circus, he dresses up in that part, he's "crazy" and doesn't care about society. I just wish they had stuck to him instead of killing him off and replacing him with Jeremiah... Complete waste imo
I disagree about Lettos Joker needing a close relationship with Batman, not all Jokers do. The original goldenage joker didnt. He was a mobster, a gangster, I think they tried to do that. A modern gangster is what they tried to make him, unfortunately it fell flat on its face, Jack Nicholson already did the gangster Joker perfecty, I dont think anyone could do that version as well as Jack did. Also in the goldenage Batman was annoying to the Joker, which makes me think thats what they were going for.
I'm on the part he rambles about that and it's so stupid Like there are only a few movies in the universe and these 2 have 1 proper scene with each other in first ss movie (we won't talk about apocalypse) and it's the chace where he fucks off and batman saves harley so there was not even a chamce to establish anything between them on screen What he says has to either take up a chunk of another movie or a whope batman movie to show and he demands it from like 15 minutes of joker in all of dceu
I think he can be a character without Batman. Personally I like him more as a villain who isn’t just evil for power but evil for a vendetta that borders on obsession. It adds to the unsettling craziness instead of a monster out for money he’s an insane stalker obsessed with showing the world that it sucks like Heath Ledgers.
If they wanted to make him a gangster why didn’t they try to make him a sopranos style gangster? Someone who had swagger, not a Machine Gun Kelly Joker.
The worst Joker is The Joker That Doesn't Laugh or as The Flash called him, The Batman Who Tries Too Hard but is officially known as The Batman Who "Laughs"
“Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League” Joker is probably gonna be worse Edit: He was not as bad as I thought. But also not good either. He was just there.
That last one wasn't too bad. It sounded like they wanted Mark Hamill but couldn't get him so they paid another actor to do an impression of him without prep-work and an hour to go through the lines.
I HATE joker throwing Harley into the vat of chemicals, I think that's so stupid. Now she's literally just a female Joker, vs a fan girl who was manipulated into falling in love, and now does all these horrible things just to impress him, out of crazy fanaticism to him.
I think it's because what the movie is *trying* to go for is to have harley replace joker as the main bad guy, but both are just bad at being characters in general.
Like, I prefer to think of Harley's devotion to Joker, something like those "mothers" devoted to Ian Watkins... if you don't know what I'm talking about, and you don't want to have a bad day, then don't look that up.
The Young Justice version of Joker absolutely seems like they were going for the Heath Leger version but instead came up somewhere _between_ the Heath Leger and Jared Leto versions.
Ledger's Joker's self analysis is also largely bs. Intentionally so. Like when he says "I'm an agent of chaos" and "do I look like a man with a plan?"... My guy, you are THE man with a plan.
What really sucks is that when you look at some of the concept art for the joker he had a different style originally that kinda had a mob vibe to him and he looked older and less over the top and more of a crazy man that had a reputation that spread fear.
I watched Joaquin phoenix joker and it scares me as it was based on reality. It felt so real watching it due to the world Arthur was living in and how his entire life is falling apart causing him to turn into this villain. It’s a good movie and unlike suicide Squad, a joker that is well written and executed perfectly terrifies me a lot. The more you go through trauma, it becomes funny as it’s a joke.
Let’s not exaggerate, he’s not scary at all and let’s not pretend that copy of Taxi Driver + King of Comedy has anything groundbreaking about it. Arthur Fleck is not the Joker, all they have in common is the purple suit. Arthur is nowhere near smart enough nor does he have a genuinely sick sense of humor and he’s definitely not capable of becoming Batman’s arch nemesis. He’s not even truly evil
It's bizzare. He *is* a comedian first, and his roles as Lore in TNG and Purple Man in Avengers EMH demonstrate he had the acting chops to be both funny and menacing. YJ's writing, once again, fell flat.
@@USSMariner Lore was a great example that Spiner could do a believable Joker. I just think the YJ character design didn’t fit his voice. It seemed weird with that design and I think that’s why some people didn’t like it
I feel like they should make another Batman cartoon where joker starts out goofy but as seasons pass he should get more and more viscous because of him trying to make Batman break. Also make him smart I’ve yet to see him be the genius that he is implied to be most of the time
I think Jared Leto with a better writer and director could have worked as the Joker. The metal teeth never bothered me because I could totally see Batman punching Joker's teeth out.
To be completely fair, I liked the idea of a younger, more wreckless modern age Joker. He’d definitely drive a lambo for sure, but they had a horrible execution for it.
He’d probably drive a stolen lambo once and crash it. I can’t see Joker actually caring about material possessions, expensive cars… or sitting still for a couple of hours to get a tattoo, let alone several
I genuinely don’t understand what people could dislike about Richard Epcar’s depiction of the joker. (Other than his Injustice 2 design but that’s a dev problem.) His voice is just gravelly enough, he can be intimidating, but he still has the manic flamboyance. Also his laugh is my second favorite Joker laugh.
I think what would have improved the portrayal would have been a post-credit scene where he walked into the shower, spit out the tooth bling, and washed off the tats. Then Harley walks in, sees his isn't permanent like her's, and she tries to kill him.
The grills is honestly the only thing i didnt really hate. Because the implication is that hes fought batman so much that just all his front teeth have been broken/knocked out at this point
Which is weird because his face still looks like Jared face with makeup. Would make more sense if his face is extremely scarred and bruised up as well rather than just his teeth
It's funny to me how when they do that flashback animated thing for Harley that the joker actually looks true to the character in the animated version and looks nothing like their live-action version so why did they even bother making it look like the actual Joker like they tryin to insult us or something lol
For a slightly older, more established Joker, the shiny metal teeth in Jared Leto's face kind of make sense: Batman's punched him in the face often enough that I'd fully believe he has no natural incisors left.
i like to think the idea was Leto's Joker was Harley's view of Joker. her twisted pov, she could never see joker's obsession with Batman. She thought he was just eccentric (i.e the tattoos style and etc). and also that it was meant to be completely obvious that she fell for something false
Nostalgia critic did a review on suicide squad when the movie came out and in the review Jim (one of the crew) was doing a bit where he was so inspired by jerrad Leto he was method acting as Jerrod Leto playing the joker. And I think this tiny bit in the video got the fundamentals of the joker better than Jerrod Leto and the entirety of suicide squad
@ozthebeeman I honestly don't think he's near as bad as people make him out to be. Some of his "serious" video (can a joke go too far, why do good directors go bad, are the prequels better than the sequels) are REALLY well done, and I do agree with tons of his criticism. His sketches are a bit cringey to some but he's just having fun really. Overall, I think the the hate he gets is over the top.
@@N.I.A23 I agree i still like the guy but his content is so stale. Whenever I hear Vee Infuso talk about Jared Leto's Joker - I cant help but feel he is speaking my thoughts! The Justice League Snyder Cut Cameo... PERFECT! More or less... It certainly worked... But Leto's Joker was SO BAD otherwise... However, I am actually going to DEFEND LETO... As this is an issue that plagues Batman! It seems NO ONE can make a Batman Movie without JOKER or WITHOUT HARLEY QUINN... Batman has one of the largest Rouges Galleries of Any Super Hero - Yet every time a movie is made, JOKER OR HARLEY QUINN MUST BE REFRENCED OR APPEAR! And that's a major issue.... Take ALL THE SUICIDE SQUAD MOVIES... Harley Quinn is in all of them, She is in the games... She is PART O FTHE SUICIDE SQUAD... Screw the fact that The Suicide Squad PERDATES HARLEY QUINNS EXISTENCE PERIOD... Studios (Warner Bros.) are constantly playing Fan Service without understanding the property! While I have yet to watch it - Even THE BATMAN has a nice End Credit scene where a NEW VILLAIN could be introduced and everything seems set up for HUSH... An Iconic villain that MANY FANS, Including myself want to see on the big screen... BUT NO - ITS THE F**KING JOKER AGAIN! CONFIRMED... THE DIRECTOR CONFIRMED ITS THE F**KING JOKER! Give us a Joker who Lives, Who Batman refuses to kill, In ONE SINGLE MOVIE... Then have him be nothing more than a reference for a while, A Background part, Give us HUSH, PENGUIN, RIDDLER, FALSE FACE, THE MNAD HATTER, Then bring Joker back to the forefront... Having planned and waited and he was portrayed to have done in the animated "Killing Joke" Constantly throwing him and Harley Front and Centre to play Fan Service KILLS THE THREAT! It becomes teh thing the the Joker should never be... BOOORING!
That's less a problem with Batman films and more an issue with Batman in general. Joker's like DC's Wolverine, he'd be on a cover of an issue he isn't in just to sell more comics. Joker's too popular for his own good.
@@Scatmanseth Very True... Same with Harley Quinn... I love both character's, but even I can call overkill! I have still not seen THE BATMAN but I did hear about the "Easter Egg" at the movies end - Saw a theory that it was going to be HUSH in the sequel but the director confirmed the mysterious figure was in fact The Joker... It sad, there is so much potential in the DC universe... But no one seems to be able to get past Joker / Quinn! Marvel are facing a similar problem, Robert Downey Junior was so good as Iron Man, Many fans seem to have fallen off since he decided to leave... (I will be frank, I also feel that leading with Infinity War was a mistake as legal issues aside, Kang the Conqueror is not as compelling as Thanos... In my opinion anyway!)
For the YJ I think they made him mediocre because they have other major villains they wanted to go into and the joker here is just to remind us that he exists. Because everybody has done Joker and if they had writers on just him. They could fill an entire show with just joker interacting being an agent of chaos even against darkseid.
I love and hate Young Justice Joker. His saving grace is that he’s better than Jared Leto and he is just insanely weird, but still he’s fine. Probably because, as you mentioned, he reminds of the Joker from the old cartoons/Silver Age.
Heath Ledger did The Joker so well that he ruined the character by every film depiction since doing some kind of terrible impression of him afterwards.
I genuinely hope to god that they cast Jim Carrey as Joker in the new DCEU. Not only does he physically fit the role, but he also has the acting chops to pull it off.
I can't believe I never thought of that or no one ever tried to get him to play Joker. He's absolutely perfect. Even if it's just Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey I'd love to see it.
I knew Leto's Joker has been cut from the final version of the movie almost completely, but I had no idea how much of footage was left out, and seeing this video I realised how much was actually lost from his whole "method-acting to be Joker" thing, and I'm glad about that 😅
Jared Leto's Joker just wasn't scary. He always struck me as Justin Bieber breaking bad. Joker should have a sense of menace, that if you get in his way or just be in the wrong place at the wrong time, he might rip off your face to make a point or as a punchline. This Joker, he feels like if you got in his way in Columbus Ohio let alone Gotham city, they'd find him laying face down in the city's sewage treatment pools.
The only, and I mean ONLY thing I like about this Joker is that for once, he exists solely to serve Harley’s story. Since in every other piece of media she’s in, Harley only exists to serve the Joker and his story. In this case, the Joker needs Harley to exist for once, and it’s a huge breath of fresh air
I don’t mind young justice joker but that injustice one is the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I remember thinking he was the worst as soon as I saw him in one scene. Even worse than Jarrod Leto.
31:05 Pollak’s Jack Nicholson imitation was so spot on would it have made a difference if he had used that voice instead of the one he used for “Injustice”?
While the movie may be a bit too weird overall and I understand the dislike for it, I loved the Joker in Batman: Ninja. He was just so animated and expressive, yet as seen in his final battle with Batman, he could be absolutely terrifying as well.
I actually agree with all of your takes. Jared's Joker would have been fine to me... If this was a Batman Beyond movie and is the Joker for that timeline.
i love the one fan theory about Jerod Leto's Joker that he was actually jason todd after he got abused by the joker and turned into that just to piss batman off
The problem is that Ben Affleck is physically younger than Jared Leto, so unless they make Robin his co-partner instead of side kick this theory doesn't make any sense
For the Young Justice version there's something they could play on that might be interesting. "MY multiple personalities." What if it's like there's personalities that we just don't see? Like you said YJ skips over a TON of events between seasons 1 and 2.
You'r completely right about tatoos not belonging on the joker. One of the most consistent or at least belonging overlooked features of the joker is his boomer attitude when dealing with youngsters. That involves his strict ideals for dresscodes and him being classy and debonair.

That’s perfect.
Instead of Joker breaking out of Arkham to commit random violence, he breaks out of Arkham to go to the club.
and get random gangsters to sleep with harley, just remembered they tried turning joker into a cuck💀
Which is like... the most normal and expected thing for a serious career actor to do. If anything Leto should have been doing that not trying LARP in front of his coworkers when theyre not filming.
I think Leto was trying to be crazy in real life, which did not translate over well on film, he only turned in a weak performance.
@Ethan-wr2os Leto is the type of actor who uses "I'm method acting" as an excuse to be a gigantic douchebag in real life and think that makes it okay.
Yeah the batman had a really fun joker design, i liked his straight jacket sleeves a lot
@@sandyscrapwitch2064 The episode where Joker drives Ethan insane even parallels The Killing Joke.
Really?
Heath Ledger looked slim when he played Joker(R.I.P)
@@StardogChampion06 he did but leto’s body type is perfect
What are you talking about? Heath Ledger was the first actor to have that body type for the Joker on screen. He was skinny af, Jared Leto is ripped compared to him. Just look at those shirtless tattoo pics, he looks tone as hell. Ledger had the perfect physique for the role.
How did this comment get so many likes?
Tbh if they had been a bit more conservative with the wardrobe and toned down the tattoos he would have had a good paul diny joker

Remember when he said "it's Jokin time" and then he actually didn't tell any jokes?
I knew Leto's Joker reminded me of something.
Honestly that straight up works better than having his film being a melodrama
Young Justice Joker looks like the fanart a thirsty teenager would make

This is also how i feel about it, you nailed it
He's like... Those edgy teenage boys who make being modern gangsters their entire personality
The dark Knight movie was good at it too but just set the Joker more ominous and unpredictable threat rather than all out fighting but he indeed always had a plan just wanted you to think it was all random but yet he always comes prepared lol
.... TAS joker used knives all the time
@@rwg6357 The problem is less with the knives and more of that's the only thing I can remember about him.
Heath Ledger's Joker LOVED using knives, but he used guns, rocket launchers, shoe blades and anything else at his disposal. He truly was an Agent of Chaos.
@@rwg6357He also used sharp playing cards.
"They gave us Harley Quinn's boyfriend" is the funniest description of the Leto Joker so far.
I've always believed that Leto's Joker would be perfect for a Batman Beyond movie as one of the criminals who use the Joker's aesthetic
I feel like Leto was less playing the Joker and more trying to channel Alex from "A Clockwork Orange".
He shouldn't even be filmed reading the credits to "A Clockwork Orange".
I always felt like he was trying to do the mask ngl
A Clockwise Orange is good tho...
The only girl fans I've seen who actually like him don't seem to be older than 13. So they failed ig....
They didn't even had to do that. Ledgers Joker looks like a greasy wet rat and that doesn't stop girls from writing self-insert on ao3. If anything, Leto's looks gives me the ick :/
Joker got tatoos? That means he went to a tattoo artists and sat quietly while he got inked
disturbing thought. thank you
This is really making me ponder on what makes the Joker seem like the Joker. Like, I would hand on heart swear that Cameron Monaghan's "Not-The-Joker" character from Gotham looks more like the Joker than Jared Leto's incarnation... but he doesn't even have green hair, or the name, and he looks Joker-like right from his first appearance. HOWWWWW.
He's just so good at playing Jack Nicholson Joker and Heath Ledger Joker so well.
The smile
You have to ask how? Seriously? Just watch it. It's self-evident.
Rest in peace Kevin, the best Batman.
😭😭😭
I disagree about Lettos Joker needing a close relationship with Batman, not all Jokers do. The original goldenage joker didnt. He was a mobster, a gangster, I think they tried to do that. A modern gangster is what they tried to make him, unfortunately it fell flat on its face, Jack Nicholson already did the gangster Joker perfecty, I dont think anyone could do that version as well as Jack did. Also in the goldenage Batman was annoying to the Joker, which makes me think thats what they were going for.
I'm on the part he rambles about that and it's so stupid
Like there are only a few movies in the universe and these 2 have 1 proper scene with each other in first ss movie (we won't talk about apocalypse) and it's the chace where he fucks off and batman saves harley so there was not even a chamce to establish anything between them on screen
What he says has to either take up a chunk of another movie or a whope batman movie to show and he demands it from like 15 minutes of joker in all of dceu
TBWL wasn’t awful until they put him every comic for like a year straight

I feel targeted here…..
What really sucks is that when you look at some of the concept art for the joker he had a different style originally that kinda had a mob vibe to him and he looked older and less over the top and more of a crazy man that had a reputation that spread fear.
Mf couldn’t be the prince of crime, so he became a farcry 5 villain
I honestly dont think Brent Spiner was that bad of a Joker. He wasnt homicial sociopath Joker, but his performance was good.
Interesting
I recall in one comic Batgirl knocked all of Joker's teeth out as revenge for paralyzing her, so it could in a work more focused on her.
Reckless.
I genuinely don’t understand what people could dislike about Richard Epcar’s depiction of the joker. (Other than his Injustice 2 design but that’s a dev problem.)
His voice is just gravelly enough, he can be intimidating, but he still has the manic flamboyance. Also his laugh is my second favorite Joker laugh.
hes an amazing joker yeah comic book fans just complain a lot about things like that
I think what would have improved the portrayal would have been a post-credit scene where he walked into the shower, spit out the tooth bling, and washed off the tats. Then Harley walks in, sees his isn't permanent like her's, and she tries to kill him.
Tbh, the idea of that look just being the Joker trying something new for a day is oddly in-character (for some versions) lol

It's funny to me how when they do that flashback animated thing for Harley that the joker actually looks true to the character in the animated version and looks nothing like their live-action version so why did they even bother making it look like the actual Joker like they tryin to insult us or something lol
Jered Leto’s “Joker” is an edgy K-Pop teen who’s “Too crazy for society because his dark and damaged mind is too deep for normies to understand🤪”
If you told me Jared Leto’s joker was played designed and written by Pete Davidson. I’d believe you
For a slightly older, more established Joker, the shiny metal teeth in Jared Leto's face kind of make sense: Batman's punched him in the face often enough that I'd fully believe he has no natural incisors left.
It also doesn't make sense he is still alive in a world where Batman kills...
i like to think the idea was Leto's Joker was Harley's view of Joker. her twisted pov, she could never see joker's obsession with Batman. She thought he was just eccentric (i.e the tattoos style and etc). and also that it was meant to be completely obvious that she fell for something false

Having planned and waited and he was portrayed to have done in the animated "Killing Joke"
Constantly throwing him and Harley Front and Centre to play Fan Service KILLS THE THREAT! It becomes teh thing the the Joker should never be... BOOORING!
why does this read like a trump tweet lmao

It sad, there is so much potential in the DC universe... But no one seems to be able to get past Joker / Quinn!
Marvel are facing a similar problem, Robert Downey Junior was so good as Iron Man, Many fans seem to have fallen off since he decided to leave... For the YJ I think they made him mediocre because they have other major villains they wanted to go into and the joker here is just to remind us that he exists. Jared Leto's Joker just wasn't scary. He always struck me as Justin Bieber breaking bad. Joker should have a sense of menace, that if you get in his way or just be in the wrong place at the wrong time, he might rip off your face to make a point or as a punchline.
