And I can totally relate to the steps in a workday. I work at Walmart fulfillment center, and I pick orders. Daily average steps is between 25k-30k :)

Costco doesn't like to hire except 2-3X a year and they vet those that apply. Some areas are worse than others though to get hired. I applied at a store down in South Florida and the manager stood me up 3X. I can't speak for all the stores, but that store in general seems more concerned about giving immigrants jobs than Americans.
@@SamuelHendrix-kb8nn such a bummer! I agree it’s difficult to get hired. I had applied a good number of times at various locations, and finally got hired because I knew someone there.

Do you guys have Receivers that check and scan in certain items from various vendors in the back? I work for a different company and was wondering what you can tell me about the costco receivier team/department? Payscale? How big is the receiver team? What hours they work? Does that team seem happy? Or if you can maybe make a video about that or give me any info?

Hello 👋🏻 yeah there is a receiving crew, normally one guy who checks in the load when the deliveries arrive. Then a few fork lift drivers who unload.
Most of the crew are Costco career type guys. Who have worked there for years. Definitely good at their job!
I’m not sure the exact pay, probably somewhere around $24/25 an hour. Which is the top of the pay scale for hourly guys.

So Im gonna graduate from HS and leave Panda Express front of house to apply at Costco and I wanted to know will they train you and go through everything with you?
yes! They train for all the various roles. you can learn any department and then work your way up. Go crush it! 👊

Yes totally possible to work before store opening. I would typically finish at 9 or 10 am, which meant I was leaving as doors were opening. There are some heavy items, but in my experience, a coworker is typically available to buddy lift heavy stuff. Just a heads up, depending on the costco, you might have your hours cut as a part-timer during slow seasons. hope that helps! go crush it!

Before getting hired, are you able to choose the time that is best for you? Your schedule is ideal for me 4-10am
It all depends on what positions costco is hiring for. I was hired for evening stocking, but then got moved to mornings. So it depends on what’s available. And you can always seek for a new role in the store once you’ve been hired.

Are the 6 hour shifts considered part time? Do you choose if you can work part or full time?
yeah 6 hours is part time. As an employee you can apply for other roles within the complany, part and full time. Basically if a role is available you can apply. As a newcomer, its pretty much whats available at each location. Make sense?

We were moving states, so I resigned before we left. I was part time as a stocker and found another job in our new state that was full time.
Cashier assistant is another good starting role. Working on the front end there’s plenty of opportunities to move up!

when you work at costco can you where a fanny pack as long it is on your waste ? when i ride the bus to work or ride my bike to work i use a pocket radio i keep the pocket radio in my fanny pack when i am working i dont use the pocket radio till i get off work?
yes! you can either wear it, store in your locker, or place it in the shopping cart that stockers use.
Is stocker position only am job? If evening? What does a stocker do in the evening since there are customers? Still stock?
It’s both am & pm. In the evenings, it’s mainly prep work, and cleaning up while the store is open.
Then after closing, the fork lifts come out and everyone gets to work stocking!

Yeah basically it’s by hours worked. You’ll see a section on your paycheck that says “hours till next next raise”. It takes about 8 months to a year for each raise.

yup! as a stocker we would do our job before and after store hours.
Do they have overnight positions 🤔 i currently work Walmart overnights for $18 hour but looking for a change
Late night not overnight! Usually like 2-11pm or 4-11pm. Nothing overnight.

@@vmartistvlog3573 pretty simple type retail questions. How do you respond under pressure, why do you want to work here, etc. Interviewing was simple, it was getting the interview that was hard, Costco gets lots of applications.
Inflation raise every year? All Costco's worldwide or just in the US?
I’m not sure about worldwide, but US workers who are topped out get inflation raise each year.
I just started working there not even 2 weeks in and my manager is already giving me an employee performance sheet to initial and had a discussion with me about moving “too slow” meanwhile I like just started and I feel like I’m busting my ass and worked at a supermarket before. He also is not pleasant to speak to and is always criticizing. Any tips ? I don’t want to burn any bridges with Costco but will do so if I need to.
ahh man, sorry bro. I noticed at costco that people will press the new workers, to see if they could make it pass the first 90 days.
I might recommend asking questions, it helps the managers see that you really do care and can do the job, but your still learning. I would personally ask all the time, like how does this look? should I try it a different way? is this stacked high enough? Should I change the direction, etc...
the job gets easier as you go, stick with it and you'll look back and realize it just took time.
The nice thing about costco is you can always go to HR and request to move departments, or share in confidence if you feel like you are being mistreated.

Thank you so much! So this is normal for a new employee to have to initial an employee performance sheet regarding slow performance? Like I haven’t even been there 9 days! I was so shocked. I am a hard worker which makes it even more shocking!
They there will definitely be more performance sheets coming. It’s standard.
I wouldn’t let a slowness a review offend you, let it motivate you.
I had people say I moved slow the whole time I worked there, but I always got the job done and done well.
Are you a stocker?
Yes night stock and the manager said to me before that evaluation we have to have a talk maybe night stock isn’t for you meanwhile I feel like I am getting better and I ask lots of questions to make sure I do the job properly and I am asking less questions now but he still treats me the same but only him I feel like he’s targeting me, the other 2 guys are new but worked in a wholesale place before one of them actually worked at a costco before
Favoritism is no joke!
You might eventually have to switch departments. I’d try to make some friends, get to know other managers. You can also check the break room or ask HR for other department opportunities around Costco. Even chat with the interviewer who hired you and ask how you can improve/get better at your job.
The key is being a peaceful person and not burning bridges. You never know whose friends with you and burning one bridge could lead towards all kinds of conflict in the future.
You said you work from 4am - 10am (6 hrs). Do you get a lunch? Or do you work 6 straight hours? And, are you considered part-time?
Yup part time! 6 hours gets a 15 min break. Pretty much on our feet stocking for the entire shift.
@@MicahSimpson Ok, thanks for the reply. But I have one more question: Do most people that want to work full time at Costco (40 hrs a week) have to begin as part-time? I thought I've heard that somewhere but I'm not sure whether or not it is true.
from what I’ve seen, most people get hired on as part timers, then you can look for full time openings through the internal Costco job postings.
However, the busier the Costco, the more hours are given and people are hired, so you could score a full time role right away.
What questions did they ask in your interview

They were the standard type questions, like how you handle pressure, if you are calm when it’s busy, why you want to work there, etc. straight forward no surprises.
Hi theere i cleared my 1st interview and was called for 2nd. So at 2nd interview they told me to provide the reference and also told me whenever i get a call i should keep my documents and bank details ready what does that mean?

How exciting! For me, I had my first interview, then my second call back was for orientation. Maybe that’s what they mean 🤔.
Because it was during orientation they needed my id, and I had to input my bank/tax information etc.

Costco is a great place to work and they train employees for all the roles. Normally they’ll assign you to a specific department. Which is good! 👍🏻 they’ll train you and you’ll get accustomed to costcos ways. Then you can always switch and try new roles in the future!

the shifts ranges from 4-6 hours for part timers. Essentially you’d stay till the work is done… but no, not really any 4 hours shifts

@@swagsukeuchiha7599 it’s not really overtime, because part time is up to 30 hours. It depends on the Costco, but when I stocked mornings I rarely had a full 30 hour week, it was more like 25-28 hours.
I was scheduled 4-10am, and only when busy did I actually stay the full 6 hours, we’d normally be done by 9am
Do you get paid a higher start rate if you have previous retail experience?
good question, I think hourly pay rate varies based on cost of living and the city’s minimum wage. with that said, I believe all new hires for entry level jobs are not paid more if they have experience. but maybe it differs?

So why does costco check the receipts?
Basically to ensure items have been properly scanned, like no doubles or missed items, also helps with loss prevention, each day receipts have a new code so people can’t reuse them… 👊🏻😁

Maybe a few of the full time departments… like gas or bakery… but it’s not typical

Mine was about a week, because they were actively hiring. You can also go in person or call to follow up after a week.

yes I worked with ladies for opening and closing shifts. As long as you’re willing to lift, push, pull, clean, and organize you’ll do great!

Do part time hires have the option to move to full time?
Yes! You basically need to wait for a full time spot to open, then you can apply and move to that role/department.
They basically let you move wherever you’d like within the company. It might take time, especially if someone with seniority applies too, but yeah you can always transition roles.

No sir! Forklift driver is a totally different position that you would either train or apply for.
Stockers only use pallet jacks and other simple equipment that does not need certification.
