"Celebrate the News" is one of the best deep cuts The Beach Boys ever recorded. Dennis really turned out to be a marvelous songwriter. I'm pleased that he's finally gotten the recognition he deserves. I feel so bad for him that he didn't live to see it happen.
So unusual to see Dennis switch places with Carl; Dennis singing and Carl playing drums is such a rarity! Looks like they were having a blast with Dennis dancing at the end to “Pennies from Heaven”!😊❤
The guys look good here. Love the outfits. Nice performance. Some of the vocals seem to be live, whilst the backing track seems prerecorded. Good job 👍 guys.
This is a really interesting show, esp the interview and Mike Douglas breaking into song. You don't get hosts like this anymore. Now it's just hot air.
One of The Beach Boys greatest 45s. The phenomenal “Breakaway” was inspired by The Monkees. Yes. It IS true. Love “Celebrate The News” and all it’s zwonkiness.
@@metalEric69I have no idea when this show went out but Manson and co weren’t arrested for the Tate/LaBianca murders until Dec ‘69, it was a mystery who was responsible until then
@@metalEric69 it also seems that there are some accounts of Dennis Wilson (and maybe some of the other band members) having contact with Manson in the weeks after the murders took place seemingly oblivious to the family’s involvement, the latter half of ‘69/1970 must have been a strange and unsettling period for the Beach Boys, the performance here on Mike Douglas takes place right before all this crazy Manson stuff started to come to the surface, it’s an interesting time capsule- and Break Away is such a great song
Capital Records quit promoting the guys in a big way around this time and weren’t getting much radio airplay what a shame, they were still a creative force. 🎵
1 of the first bands used for political point scoring. Now the whole entertainment industry is a branch of politics. You gotta love the beach boys tho.
Deleted portion of the interview segment: Douglas: Dennis, are you still friends with that cult leader who has the harem of 20 young girls and who spent several months last year living at your house? Dennis: Yeah, we still see each other from time to time. Him and the girls live on a movie ranch north of LA now. He actually composed one of the tunes on our latest album. We've been recording him and are thinking about putting out an album of his songs maybe later this year, but he doesn't believe in signing contracts so it's kind of been a difficult process trying to convince him what you need to do to actually get a record out. Hopefully someday he'll sign and we can put the album out, because charlie's really talented and I think America deserves to hear his music.
Breakaway was very much an underrated song. Doesn't get a lot of airplay.
yep, it's a great Brian Wilson production.
It was their last great record.
@@brucelevy5603
You never heard the album 'Holland' then?
@@gerrydooley951 it was their last new 45 r.p.m. record released on Capital Records in the '60's, before they went over to Warner Brothers Records

Dennis' Celebrate The News is showcased with live vocals and Carl pretending to play the drums. Awesome.
So good to hear and see Dennis up front singing the great B side Celebrate The News! Rare. Never seen this before
Wow, Mike Love without a hat! It's like spotting Sasquach out in the wild.
😄😄😄 ouch!
There are a few sightings of these seemingly rare event (in Sir David Attenborough's voice) where "the bald" comes out of its natural habitat.

Sounds like they are singing live to their own record in the background.
Amazing to see this historical footage.
Love Celebrate the News! So underrated.
it’s so cool to see Carl & Al trade lead vocals. it’s amazing how similar the vocals of Brian, Carl, and Al are
Al was so often the harmonic glue that made it all gel, especially in their late 60s through mid 70s era. A true vocal chameleon.
Mike Douglas had a great show. Go Carl go. Thank you.
Brian Wilson is a musical genius. One of the best Rock n Roll groups ever. ☮️💟

Dennis's voice is amazing in 69
I like break away. Especially the checkoslavika one.
Charlie was watching that night.
Thanks for this
Awesome!!!
Wow thank you for precious clip. Actually, this was 22 Aug. 1969
I highly doubt they would have played any music with a Manson contribution, after the tate murder.

I’m sure Dennis wanted those legs.

Dennis dancing is so funny😅
Did Dennis teach Kaye Stevens how to do the Inhibition?
Kaye Stevens was really good to the Vietnam vets--entertained in country. Kaye and Dennis made an "interesting" couple!

Charlie got so weird Dennis had to move out of his own house
Ouch!
Mike is such a narcissist that he’s convinced himself his bass part on celebrate the news is a lead vocal worthy of really singing
