I miss him so much. He was so patient and kind. He was a dental patient of ours in Nederland, Colorado.
That's so cool! I've always been curious about his life in Colorado.
Did he ever tell any Beach Boys stories?
He was so dentist patient
Dan Fogleberg lived there too he died too soon.
Did he take good care of his teeth?
There are a lot of guitarists out there who are SOOOO underrated. Carl Wilson and George Harrison are two prime examples.
Lol george harrison "underrated" ... okay 🙄
YOU SO GOT THAT RIGHT
Damnit Carl why’d you have to check out so soon. Both a legend and a gentlemen.
F#@#ing cigarettes did him in
RIP, Carl Wilson, we miss you terribly. The Boys, are not the same, without you. Not even close. -----------MJL, 76 y/o
I like his calm unpretentious mindfulness.
He had such a laid back chilled way of speaking. Great singer.
Carl was handsome, well spoken, & a total gentleman. He could sing anything, & his guitar playing was so very underrated. Wolfsky9, 68 y/o
Amen Wolf. You NEVER see Carl listed on top guitarist lists
Carlos Bosso he played w with The Wrecking Crew-all the session musicians!! He was the ONLY one remotely interested in expanding his skill-as awesome as he was.
On That's Not Me, the otherworldly guitar riff I think is Carl.
You are , as always, spot on, Wolfsky
Carol Kaye said he'd come in off tour and lay down guitar tracks. He's the one who came up with the 12 string riff on Dance Dance Dance. Plus, on the solo, he bent notes on a Rickenbacker 12 string. Not an easy task, especially back in 64' when there was no such thing as light gauge strings.
I Can Hear Music is mind blowing to hear Carl's angelic voice. Blows The Ronnetts version away. He literally took charge of the Beach Boys at that moment...huge talent! RIP.
Blue Prism Quivers yes!! The first song Carl produced!!! Impressed the heck out of Brian, as he states in subsequent interviews- so proud of his baby brother
I just love that song, I've been grooving on it for a month straight.
And Darlin’
Imagine,im 69 yrs. Amd the beach boys were part of my life. Like the beatles
Carl had so many beautiful songs with the Beach Boys. His "Jai Guru Dev" in All this is that is gorgeous. Feel Flows. Long Promised Road. The list is a mile long. Wonderful man.
That's the longest interview I've seen with Carl. So even if the interviewer wasn't the best, just hearing Carl speak about the Beach Boys and their influences makes up for it for me. He was a great, soulful singer.
What an incredibly gentle soul. Couldn’t be any person more well suited to singing the lead on God only knows. Brian channeled that message the cosmos and shared it with Carl to perform. His voice is angelic
Totally agree and with Dennis singing forever and Al singing Snoop John B were the voices that took the Beach Boys to the next Level...Brian knew this, and sorry to say when I hear Mike singing those songs, well it just doesn't sound right.
He was a very well spoken, intelligent and patient here. He also looked great here...a bit thinner from his earlier days. He was a handsome gent.
What an intelligent, sensitive respectful and handsome man ... how did he manage to come through the music meatgrinder and stay so authentic and grounded? His family must miss him terribly....
@belindaintexas8789. May I quote you?
If Brian's talent was out of this world, then Carl Wilson was truly from another world
To this day!
Well Brian was a musical genius with his song writing. Carl had the best voice of the Bros. And Dennis was the beautiful one.
Lol. Carl was okay. I dont even understand how you could begin to compare him to Brian.
RIP Carl... Such a sweet gentle guy with an angelic voice.. All the Wilson's had their own beautiful voices...especially Dennis..very underrated. RIP Carl & Dennis
I did not think Dennis sang well at all
@@judithryle2113 He did when he was younger but after he was beaten up badly, his voice changed.
@@elizabethmcleod246 his solo album is moving. His voice could really emote. Also, little bird and forever are great examples of his soulful voice.
@@KonigdesUrwalds I agree. He had real soul.
RIP Carl. We love you
So magnificently humble, honest, patient, beautiful, articulate, personable, self- deprecating. I love CARL DEAN WILSON, forever and ever and ever.
"Mom, make Carl sing" - Brian. Good thing mom did because Carl was an incredible singer as well as guitar player. Also sweet, kind, handsome - and the balancing force who tried to keep harmony within the group. The band combined the vocal harmonies of the Four Freshman with the guitar stylings of Chuck Berry and those early recordings reflected that merger of influences to create their own sound. The best American band ever, only matched by the Beatles.
Ramadan Steve he did say American bands.
Nobody topped the Beatles
mysticmaverick1 : I underestimated Carl’s talent. My friends were huge BB fans. I sort of fell into it in the 60’s.
Rubber Soul got us Pet Sounds.
Pet Sounds got us Sgt Pepper.
Sgt Pepper got us Smile. Hateful
Mikey "un-got" us Smile.
In this friendly competition, who
won? Everybody on Earth, duh!
Sir Paul considers God Only Knows,
as the best song ever written. Who
am I to argue with a British Knight?
(I think Darlin, is a better song.)
steve
Far more inventive than the beatles
@@6pup The beach boys far out shone the beatles
one of the greatest voices in the history of recorded sound
Carl was such a sweet soul. God bless him ❤🌹
Carl was one of our finest singers and by just about all accounts a class act as well. Taken way too soon. RIP Carl.
Carl Wilson is one of the most beautiful singers and person I love him to bits
Is no one talking about this man's absolutely beautiful beard?
Its magnificent
It’s lovely ❤️
He aged magnificently. And he wore a beard so well. I miss him a lot.
He had beautiful eyes.
And his eyes reflected his pure, gentle, sweet soul!
Carl shows himself as a highly intelligent, sensitive soul - and his comment that music could have had a greater impact on society in the 60s but didn't because the young didn't have the economic power to institute change was accurate and astute in its simplicity.
zephyrquartz I think they exerted enough influence and change.. look at what has happened to America.. and it’s not good. But to blame a people of a certain generation who like others had gone along with it is not wholly suitable. But to blame the covert globalist pinko party in this country is definitely right! Them and others too. No wonder a lot of people (especially with their eyes and ears open) are afraid!
zephyrquartz from Carl’s generation to ours.. the “agony column of the Beano” to “Snowflake melting in heat” .. from the Silent gen to the Millie gen, America’s really changed and not for the good!
Carl and Gina (Martin-Wilson) were the epitome of class and kindness
@@freshfilms9736 I was lucky enough to know them a bit. I spent time with both Carl +Gina together, + with Gina alone. They both were humble, unassuming, funny as heck. And very classy, as you said. I had hung out with Gina more than 5 times before I knew who her father was! I found out by accident, she never bragged. Very classy indeed! Thanks Gina +Carl, it was a blast!💝
I am struck by his thoughtfulness when being interviewed.
No wonder Brian would say in a much later interview after Carl's death that he "wanted his Carl" back more than anything.
Anita Calloway These brothers were fucked over by their narcissistic jealous father. These guys are all sweet humble souls. Rip Carl and Dennis.
Anita Calloway Yes, Brian, I whole heartedly agree. I want my Carl back.
Diane M. Patterson I want my Dennis back
I want both Carl and Dennis back.
😥
20:01 "Somebody who may be blessed with an incredible sounding voice......". That'll be you Carl and you still did sing your heart out.
Has there ever been a kinder, more gentle, more talented soul on this good earth?
possibly george harrison :-)
No. You hit the bullseye.
Artemis Gordon Nope.
I concur with all the comments here. Carl was indeed so very special. I sure miss him...his music and memories live !🎸🎤
457 comments and every single one explains how nice Carl is and has a beautiful voice say no more R.I.P Carl Wilson
Rest in Peace, Carl - you were a good humble man.
Wow, such a beautiful, peaceful voice Carl had. His eyes are very intentful in this interview!
845callaway they need to be or he would fall asleep. This interviewer missed every single solitary opportunity to REALLY delve into Carl’s persona. I certainly hope he was fired and never interviewed anyone ever again
Agree with these comments on here about him having a beautiful voice, You Close your eyes when you hear it and it’s like he’s in the room with you. He gives me goosebumps. Such an amazing talent and beautiful soul. You’re so sorely missed Carl. ❤️
This is the first time I have heard Carl in an interview and he really impresses me with his thoughtfulness and kindness with no sign of an ego.
What a gentleman, Carl was. A very sad loss to his family and the world of music.
I love this interview. Carl is so seemingly gentle. But, man could he Rock!
He certainly could! I get the feeling that Brian and Dennis preferred gentle music. Carl was happiest when he could rock out.
Gentle, articulate, thoughtful, intelligent - what a treat to hear him speak and hear his thoughts. Thanks for all the great music Carl Wilson.
Great interview. Carl was a kind soul. There was a happy and feel good vibe to their music. their vocal harmonizing started in their childhood. The three bro’s shared a bedroom and found some peace from an abusive father by singing together before bed.
The singer of the band! Always and truly cool, gracious and authentic!
Luv Carl’s voice...he was the soul of group for sure. Decent, humble person with a great voice. The Wilson’s WERE The Beach Boy’s.
ABSOULTELY!
Carl Wilson,"Our music is simple!" - love that, to me it is fun, lively and youthful, as well! The Beach Boys music is timeless!
In actuality, their music is not simple. It's one of the multitude of reasons so many artists have had such respect for Brian, all of the complex chords, key changes, and innovation unlike anyone at the time.
What a sweet gentle human being had voice that was so unique and recognizable and I respect his musicianship and his leadership in the Beach boys and I think he was a great guy what a legend! God only knows = timeless
This interview is priceless. First, & just to get it out of the way, this interview wins the award for worst interviewer paired with most generous & patient interviewed subject. Carl is making gold out of all this interviewer's terrible questions. Most subjects would have gone monosyllabic or stormed out by the 2nd question.
Plus he's got such good insight on the band & what was going on. & you can tell he loves Brian so much, which is lovely. Just all 'round amazing interview.
What a talent the man was.Rest in peace Carl..
Agreed. This interviewer is awful. Bless Carl’s heart…..he’s so respectful and patient.
💔
I want to get up and walk out. Carl was more patient than me !
I kept thinking to myself this must have been some college student in Communications doing his first interview ever. Most of the questions were painful (especially in repetitiveness - kind of like the spoof Chris Farley SNL interview of Paul McCartney), but Carl was so lovely and patient.
🙏🏻RIP Carl Wilson , man I missed you so much you were awesome You had one heck of a voice and played the guitar with so much love and passion. You’ll never be forgotten.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✌🏻✌🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸
I was lucky enough to meet all the Beach boys and speak to them
After a concert in Worcester Massachusetts in a restaurant. I have a few minutes to speak to each of them and I never forgot how sweet how nice how open he was to a total stranger like me. I never forgot being of his presence and I miss him
HE had the voice, Brian had the brains and genius of production. But that voice was simply perfection.
Carl was a pretty good guitar player too. And he was a great musical director for the onstage band for decades.
He knows Brian was the genius, his humility and acknowledgment, and love, makes him, as a human, a giant
RIP Carl. The boys are not the same without you and Dennis.
Great. But not the same.
I still can't dry the tear from nmy eye we all love you guys, see yo noh soon.
Carl was the Golden Voice 🎙 🎶 🎸 of the Beach Boys!
Totally underrated musician, but man he was fine as wine
The most graceful beautiful spirit of a man, boy do I wish Carl and Dennis were still alive.
So incredibly grateful to have gotten to see Brian Wilson (and Al Jardine and family) band perform live years ago the entirety of Pet Sounds in concert, included a first set filled the the surf/car classics, it was truly magical to hear that performed live by its creator. Brought tears to my eyes, Brian once said he wanted to make music that people could pray to and Pet Sounds and Smile is that for me.
Long live Rock N Roll, Live MUSIC and the eternal sunshine music of the brothers Wilson and The Beach Boys!
my god, he's adorable
He sure was.
@@1401minstrel Always was...watch their early stuff and he had never changed..always humble, just like Brian and Dennis
Carl was a gentle, loving man, and the soul of the Beach Boys. Miss him so much.
We still love and miss you Carl .
Carl was very patient in dealing with an awful interviewer, i am surprised he did not "Nod Off" waiting for the next question. Fascinating insight on Carl's thoughts and influences.
how does an interview go without being intimidated by real time priviledge. questions are relevant and timely with an amazing artist. tuff gig for a probable nervous interviewer. Mr Wilson gracious, patient and understanding.
Carl looked so good here..the best I'd ever seen him look..Gone way too soon and too young...RIP Carl.
min 0:10 "hearing Tutti Frutti in the Manriquez' back yard...our neighbours down the street"
Thats friggin AMAZING!!!
Really? Was it AMAZING?
i wish i could be half as handsome as he is
I wish I had half his vocal range.
Heck, I wish I had half of Matt Jardine's
range.
steve
Typical good Wilson looks
Such an amazing wonderful beautiful kind soul
Skeet Freak q
And gorgeous
Carl was a very gracious interviewee
He said that the integrity of Brian's work was complete. Carl had equal integrity. He never projected himself as a guitarist; he only focused on making his brother's songs sparkle.
I think all the Wilson's boys and Al had integrity and humbling, they all believed in Brian..
That is why he is my favourite Beach Boy member. Very intelligent and contributor to The Beach Boys.
carl is such a beautiful man. Beautiful soul
I’m 38 and he is my fave beach boy.
His vocals on Darling kill my heart. I am so so so sooo so so so soooooooo so so so so so sad that I never got to see him. Love ya Carl xxx
What a cool guy. I have always loved The Beach Boys. Fantastic singers and musicians.
CRAB JAB : I’m 68 and feel the same! I’ll be rocking on my Zimmer frame.
"Darling" and "Sail On Sailor" are my two favorite Beach Boys songs
susan allen Top man. Well make sure you stay home with all this madness going on out there. Don’t be taking no silly risks.
Tony Correnti classics.
You can see Brian's pain when talking about Carl being gone. Fitting that Brian let Carl sing their most beautiful song. Carl saved Brian's life.
Such a deep and insightful man. I am such a huge Brian that i have not taken the time to look into carls life. this was awesome. thanks for the upload!
For me this was Carl's best time as a physical specimen. He was just so classy, so smart and so presentable. Just a great all around look.
I'm reading a book on Carl right now: Long Promised Road. He's by far my favorite of the Beach Boys. So talented, but so kind, a calming influence..
My favorite too. Thanx for mentioning the book...I gotta check it out
This was Recorded on the day I was born
Happy birthday Carl 21/12/46 xxx
What a talent , love that voice. I'm 67 and can remember like it was yesterday, the first time I heard the Beach Boys. Blew my mind !
I wish the interviewer would have asked more about CARL…. But yes Carl was so sweet and rolled with it.
Beautiful voice
Beautiful man
One of my all time fave vocalist :)
Mine too
Carl was wonderful ❤️ so thankful I got to see him perform live xxx
the wilson boys were all handsome
Yes
But Carl was THE MOST PERFECTLY GORGEOUS.
Yes !
Carl seemed a bit awkward when he was a teenager, but in his 30s he sure was dreamy.
@@1401minstrel who isn't awkward in their teens..?
may carl wilson rest in peace
This is really wonderful to watch. So soft spoken. A real joy to listen to.
Very talented musician and a kind man. Had a chance to chat with him for a while one day in the gym at Harrah's South Lake Tahoe...1984
Oh wow, that’s amazing! What did he say? Do you remember?
thank you, Carl. You are and were a gentleman that touched me; thank you for being gentle, kind, humble, thoughtful, kind, sensitive and creative. I pray that you are at rest.....cuz you embodied that insight. Thank you, Carl. And dude....you fucking rocked, brother.....bless on you.....
Yes, a wonderful human being. The world is a better place because of the Beach Boys and Wilson brothers. Heaven's gain
So handsome and sweet. Taken away from us way too soon. Great voice, wonderful interview. 1st time I ever heard him speak. So intelligent.
a real nice guy !! one of the good ones
Such a gentle humble soul !
In addition to all of his amazing musical qualities, Carl is also credited with teaching Alex Chilton to play the guitar-so thanks Carl, for helping to deliver Big Star!
Is great to hear what Carl has to say. Favorite vocalist. I enjoy the music he did as a solo artist also. Such an amazing talent. He was obviously a very humble, sincere, caring and educated man. He took his role as leading the BB for many years seriously as you can tell even just from his stage presence. I saw some comments inferring drug use. From what I understand he had stopped by this time.
As others have said, miss Carl. Was a great singer and musician. Have read countless times he was an amazing kind person. RIP Carl !
Beautiful human being. Absolutely gorgeous 💗🌹
The Beach Boys, like Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, the Who, Led Zeppelin have created music that if you're lucky enough to receive the feeling would make you understand the true potential of music.
The Doors...
Yeah, The Doors!
I am impressed and incredulous each and every time I watch and listen to this. What an extraordinary privilege and honor, to sit and ask Carl questions. (Seemingly, at random, whim...)
I am developing a regard for the Beach Boys. Great interview!!
Carl Wilson what a beautiful person x
Carl was one so underrated. People always talk about Brian, but Carl’s voice was what made so many of the Beach Boys’ song special. His guitar playing was also very distinctive, and defined the sound of their early hits. After Pet Sounds and Smile, Carl’s playing on the records showed he was every bit as good as the session it’s Brain was favouring at the peak of the band’s career. I also think Carl, in spite of the problems he had in his life, was able to overcome them with his tremendous sense of responsibility, and he was never flippant. He always treated interviewers and his audience with respect.
1. At 15:25 "For us, recording was church." 2. At 16:20, Brian telling Carl that "The Beach Boys music communicates the joy of living. Just the simple joy of being alive, just being here." AND THANK GOD THEY WERE/ARE. Carl was sweet of voice AND spirit.
Great talent hard working and humble something hard to find in a superstar.
I know, what he said is so true. I can’t imagine my life without Beach Boys music!!! The joy of their songs got me through those tough teenage years and all the horrible things happening in our country. The JFK, RFK, and MLK assignations which were so heart breaking.
And thank God that we were/are alive at the same time that they were/are.
Miss you king of voices
"No one sings like you anymore"
The slow pace and lethargic tone of the interviewer makes this sound like a job interview.
What a kind, humble, beautiful person inside and out, Carl was. Amazing voice and musician too! Discovering The Beach Boys and their music all over again has been a source of great comfort to me during this difficult time, thank goodness there is so much archive material saved!
Just makes me sooo sad
What a nice man.
You can see Carl thinking "This interviewer is a buffoon".
the eye close and jaw twist haha
Long hard road
duh, how come you don't all surf?
The camera operator is a real cinematic genius too
Carl was the only kid who wasnt regularly beaten like Brian and Dennis.
Maybe he behaved
@@judithryle2113 bruh
@@judithryle2113 Clearly you have NO IDEA the history of that family my friend, and seeing that i know quite a bit, Carl wasn't able to entirely avoid the beatings, Murry would ruthlessly dole out. #LoveAndMercy
He gave his all.
