So uh, next up is going to be a pretty long grind. I might throw some streams on here if anyone's interested in that but, y'know, spoilers and all that.
Do you have a plan yet for what you're going to do about Crystal Tower? The game won't let you enter without three people, and going into Labyrinth with only three people is actually a guaranteed wipe.
@@Toksyuryel I believe he said he would do it as much as possible so in that instance I think he should be allowed at least the 12 people there, though even 12 is going to be hard to hit that time limit probably, given that would mean only one team could kill an atomos at a time, not sure if you can NPC it though, that is kind of like solo. I look forward to Titan personally, I am surprised a solo run has been possible so far as is, especially synced, but Titan was the big ramp up in difficulty back in the day so I expect that is going to start causing some issues there, eager to see to the plans for that though, especially getting around those rock prisons.
I'm personally a big fan of watching stream VODs, so if you do record or stream then upload, that'll be something to watch. Probably won't get the most views like these shorter edited videos, but they are something for the in-between as you grind.
One thing that might help you: the pieces of gear that take up 2 slots are liars. They seem to give better stats but when you take into consideration that having /both/ a helmet and chest as well as pants and boots, you end up with more stats than the dual slot pieces. The game lies pretty hard about it and is a trap that I honestly think shouldn't exist but eh. Tis what it is. Anyways! Great series so far and keep up the good work! Have fun!
Hopefully this comment gets noticed because yeah, the double-slot gear is a bait. Might save a bit in material costs (?), but otherwise it’s not worth using compared to standard pieces.
Fun fact: Brayflox is a lady! Goblin names typically end with either "ix" e.g. Mutamix, or "ox", e.g. Brayflox, with the Encyclopedia Eorzea saying that they denote "a 'handsome male' or 'beauteous female' respectively".
I love how much of the game this exposes, between niche systems that they've since mostly ditched or made unimportant, but are still there _(combined armour pieces, the weird variety of status heal consumables and niche pots),_ stuff that was more relevant on-launch but you can still technically do _(careful mob routing by aggro range, alternate paths to better gear),_ as well as stuff I don't imagine anyone sane was doing even AT launch except for the novelty _(making your own low-level gear, maybe even full melding Materia IIIs later)._ Really, aside from the fact that it seems to be getting harder and harder as time goes on anyway, losing access to all this "favourable ARR jank" sounds like more of a hard wall for the run than anything--- but I'm curious to see how far it can really go!
so long as he can get to Raw Intuition levels he'll be fine I think, because from there I don't THINK there's a dungeon that can't be singlepulled by a WAR alone?
@@shophaune2298 There's still MSQ trials to consider. Plus he'll have no choice but to give himself an exception for Crystal Tower since you need a minimum of 3 people to even queue in for alliance raids.
Pretty sure Swift Completion is just a leftover from 1.0. You used to get upto like 5 chests at the end of a dungeon if ya filled out the requirements, and one of the tasks was Swift Completion. If ya played before Tam Tara Deepcroft was remade, you'd notice there was a buncha broken chests around the dungeon, and that the final boss chest was off centre. All leftovers from that system
Not really - it's basically just the first time completion bonus you get if it's someone in your party's first time in the dungeon on that character. The actual speed you go at doesn't matter, having a new player in the party will apply the bonus regardless. The full phrase is 'swift first-time completion of duty objectives'.
This is my new favorite series. Between watching you suffer but succeed and highlighting the use of crafters and gatherers and seeing the complex web of materials and recipes needed to upgrade your gear this has been such an enjoyable watch
It really is. It is genuinely refreshing to see low-level crafting and gathering actually being meaningfully useful in some way. In my experience it has always just been the thing you do to get to higher-level crafting. But when there are restrictions like this, it all meaningfully relates to the gameplay.
I'm just starting to watch this series today and I love it so far! One random note: Brayflox is a woman - an easy way to tell is the "ox" suffix on her name, where male goblins have an "ix" suffix (or close to it) Edit: watched the next video and realised you already found this out :3
Brayflox's Longstop solo, on-level, with no Echo. That's so incredible I can hardly fathom it, and yet here it is, laid out in all its glory. I'm sure the joy she expresses and getting the prized (?) Goblin Cheese was almost as grand as getting that Swift Completion at the end!
There is two places I can see this run just ending. 1.The crystal tower as that raid series is required to progress the msq and you cant solo it. Even as a blue mage. Unless you buy the cashshop story skip for HW, you cant get past it. 2.The ascian fight in the post patches of ARR needs more dps then a tank can put out during its second phase
Hey with the Inferno Drake fight, there's a light cheese you can do to reduce the Brayflox shenanigans, the drake targets Brayflox when doing the cast and Brayflox moves to .77 ylm distance to his target, so... If you stand near the center of the inferno drake, opposite Brayflox when he starts his bait. You can dodge it since it'll aim away from you. You can also do this strat with any boss casts like the 1st boss and final boss in Stone Vigil too. Though with the Frost Breath attack on the last in Stone you need to be incredibly close to the boss's center and react quickly to the cast itself. Hope it helps!
I'm so grateful you're sharing this hell of a ride with us ! And the necromancer strats coming in clutch is quite a sight to behold ! Honestly I always kinda wanted to do something like this be the effort required seemed too daunting to even imagine. And yet hear you are, pulling it off somehow !
This series motivated me to run the challenge as well! I added strict no-vendor, so some parts like early WVR and early FSH have been surprisingly intense. Currently gearing up before Brayflox, so your run is equal parts inspiring and terrifying XD
I love this series! on the crafting side of things I tried to do something similar with my character, where I ground out almost every single mat for everything I crafted. Keep up the great work!
the editing on these videos is great & your ability to narrate is SO engaging -- absolute gem of a series you've got here, looking forward to seeing more! ^___^
You've brought new life and love into this fantastic game for me, been doing the challenge myself since i saw you'r last vid and it's been such a refreshing experience! :D
I love how this guy inspired me to start crafting, I always hated levelling crafters cause I spent so much money, but if I am just every step of the process then it looks a lot more fun.
This man is having to so more prep for a normal dungeon than I do for throwing myself at UWU. All I can say is to keep at it, I'm loving this series so far.
Swift completion is a bit funny indeed, it's a pop-up exclusive to clearing a dungeon with a first timer/sprout that is awarded to everyone in the dungeon. Presumably to give incentive to stick around no matter how good or not the new peep may be.
This series actually gives me so much more perspective on how crafting and gathering could be integrated into normal gameplay for an efen fuller experience. But i also realise that i will never ever do it myself, haha. This also honestly reminds me of a different youtube series called "Beat League of legends" where a person that enjoys select roster of characters tries to win a game with every champion, and every skin champion has. It was a challenge that was full of self inflicted (and not really) hardships and misery, but the author always rose on the top. Beat league died, so that solo ff14 can walk
I watched your Limsa only run before this, and after the first 5 minutes of that i was already ready to subscribe, but after seeing this I have to say you more than earned the sub and then some, if only i could. These videos are very inspirational. I'll have to use this inspiration to finish level my classes, especially the crafting classes. Thank you!
Just caught this series this morning while browsing UA-cam, right after finishing that first episode I knew I had to subscribe, and this episode certainly didn't disappoint. It was definitely a great premise, having followed RS videos for a while (without actually having played the game), this feels like a breath of fresh air in terms of final fantasy content, given the patch cycle we're on atm. You are very knowledgeable about the game, making short work of all the crafting segments (what about fishing though?) that would take a regular player double the time for sure, makes it better to fit in more content on the video. Hope to follow the series wherever it takes you, good luck on further exploits!
I always rewatch your entire series sometimes just to kill my needs for new videos. I love this, because this was the FFXIV I always wanted. I tried to solo Sastasha in my old days with my Archer but died at last boss and understood that was not possible. Now thanks to you, I can revive the feeling to solo this game for a challenge.
I feel like you'll only get hard stopped by the Crystal Tower, but I'm sure you can make it all the way through to the end of the main Realm Reborn story Keep going :3
Honestly, I'm unsure you can bypass the mechanics which hard-CC one player of the group until he is freed by others, at least without some hard glitching or overwhelming damage to skip phases entirely. But we should be probably able to see it soon enough, as 34lvl Titan actually does that with Gaols. Great run up to this point anyway.
My best friend plays tons of OSRS Ironman/Group IM and follows lots of the UA-cam creators for similar content. I'm trying to get him hooked on these videos, it's awesome how hard you've worked on this!
Great project man! As someone who has largely played for the story it's really interesting to see how all these systems interplay. Really liking this series and hoping you keep it up!
Genuinely one of the coolest, most interesting series on youtube for 14. You're really innovating video content for this game. I hope this takes off and you get the recognition you deserve!
This journey has me absolutely PUMPED!! PS. Might wanna consider titling these "part 1", "part 2" and so on. When I saw this I was actually a bit stumped on if it was part 2 of your journey- or if anyone else was doing the same challenge. Once i started watching it was fine ofcourse- but it wasn't as "clickable" as it could've been ☺️
Hey this is a lot of fun to watch! I just watched the first episode and was happy to find there was already a second one uploaded. Can’t wait for the next one!
Love this series so much! Can't wait for the next episode! I've always watched Runescape challenge vids and seeing this gave the same joy of me watching those vids haha! Keep it up, man!
I remember being told if you save all the Goblin Pathfinders in Brayflox's Longstop and then wait a moment outside of Aiatar's boss room, they will run up behind you and give you a buff. I just tested it out on an unsynced run to see if I could get that to happen and it did not, at least after a reasonable minute or two wait. Maybe it was true on the old dungeon, but it definitely isn't now. Now, to go catch Mew under that truck...
A tiny suggestion, doing the crafter quests, though time consuming, do help keep your gear updated/on par with most of the crafts. Though full respect for crafting literally all of your gear!!! I kind of want to try this challenge on my own (plus no teleportation) but I think I have enough alts as it is LOL
Even if you could have Esuna'd the poison on the Ochu, it would have literally just reapplied it the next time it could - back before that dungeon's overhaul you could esuna it and it always reapplied it instantly.
original FFXIV content is so incredibly dry (im contributing to the problem tbh,) but this series is great. I can only imagine how many hours go into each of these videos with how grindy they turn out to be. keep it up! 👍
y'know what, this is an interesting challenge so far, and whilst you're absolutely gonna get hard stopped at some point, it's interesting to see how you handle it! I'll be following this along :) Maybe the rules can be bent for the hard stopped areas once you reach them, eg getting a second person in for prison mechanics but they're only allowed to attack on that phase, as an idea perhaps, of course that's just me, but for the rest, i wish you the best of luck!
I love ffxiv and have been playing sincce ARR. But I'm no masochist, so I'm happy that YOU are doing this and I can just enjoy watching it 😂 Jokes aside, thanks for the video. I can just imagine the suffering with trying this challange. I can hear the exaltation and relief when you manage to clear a hindrance 😋
So if I remember correctly, before the rework the Nine-Tails's poison was esunable/antidotable. But if its main target wasn't poisoned it would just reapply the poison over and over. I imagine they decided to just make the poison permenant as opposed to having a healer esuna over and over without realizing it won't do anything in this situation.
Geesh. Great work with the series. I'm really enjoying it! I have been actually thinking of doing something like this but with a 4 person group! Subscribed!
So something to note about the swift completion times, they might be what it took a party back on 2.0's release to clear the dungeons, keeping in mind that there's been major power creep in the game over the years and getting jobs was actually difficult back then, plus a lot of the good skills a class needed to be reliable were cross class (which meant you had to level other classes to get them). I can imagine a group of min ilvl min level classes with no cross class skills taking a while to clear some of these dungeons.
I don't know if I should be happy because of this amazing piece of content existing or mad that I'm going to lose many hours of my life attempting the same challenge. One of the biggest problems I've had with ffxiv is the gear progression while leveling (quest and tomestone gear being all you need while crafted and dungeon/trial/raid drops being almost irrelevant) and I also do like to grind crafters and gatherers with the stupidest goals so this seems to be something I'd enjoy.
You mentioned there are 3 aggro types on mobs. There are actually 5 not sure if they are anywhere else but in Eureka there is also Blood aggro where mobs attack if you are too low on health and spell aggro where mobs attack if you cast a spell.
Oh hey the Aggro triggers for mobs. Its one thing i have done to learn in PotD and actually make use of it almost all the time. Though i call them sense methods. Though i usually say Tremor instead of Sound. I am not too sure why I use Tremor. since its basically the same thing. Moving too fast (loud footsteps) triggers aggro.
LOL, man, you're insane. When most people talk about soloing a game, they usually mean never partying with other players. Meanwhile, you won't even party with NPCs! And after all the work Yoshi-P and crew did to bring the Trust system to ARR and HW dungeons too!
i saw the first video and thought oh sweet, a cool ffxiv video idea (turned series???) that isn't just some subjective job ranking list, surely this guy is a big name in the community. but less than 2k?? bruh your video quality and effort is worthy of more than 2k lol. lots of potential here, and props to the runescape references and your partner for the cool shots.
I think swift completion may be related to party size. It may just be dungeon timer split by number of players. For I recall once not getting it, I was tanking and the healer just refused to keep up with heals, so we wiped... A lot. It was only when the echo empowered me to the point where potions and mitigation was all I needed that we got through. And the healer wasn't even the new player, heck they weren't even a sprout. It was a ninja that was the new player. Either case, that took around 27 minutes, and we did not get swift completion, only first time bonus. I recall this specifically cause the entire thing was a miserable experience. Like when I felt an RSI coming on from doing a level 84 dungeon where on of the ninja was practically afk the whole time! It was so bad that when they died to the boss we ignored ressing him (we were a premade 3 man) and the speed at which the boss died actually increased, cause now our healer could focus more on DPS.
So uh, next up is going to be a pretty long grind. I might throw some streams on here if anyone's interested in that but, y'know, spoilers and all that.
I just want to wish you luck, we are all counting on you.
At least I would love to see some of the grind and I don't think spoilers are a big problem as long as you warn about them.

This challenge is mental. Kudos to you!
y'know what, this is an interesting challenge so far, and whilst you're absolutely gonna get hard stopped at some point, it's interesting to see how you handle it! I'll be following this along :) Maybe the rules can be bent for the hard stopped areas once you reach them, eg getting a second person in for prison mechanics but they're only allowed to attack on that phase, as an idea perhaps, of course that's just me, but for the rest, i wish you the best of luck!
love the concept! hope you make it as far as you can
IT CONTINUES! Didn't expect a follow up vid so fast but hell yeah.
This is very entertaining and seriously informative. Love it!
amazing series, hope the run will keep going!
I love ffxiv and have been playing sincce ARR. But I'm no masochist, so I'm happy that YOU are doing this and I can just enjoy watching it 😂
Jokes aside, thanks for the video. I can just imagine the suffering with trying this challange. I can hear the exaltation and relief when you manage to clear a hindrance 😋
I watched the previous part just a few hours ago and then see this! So excited! 😄
love the series and i´m in awe of your dedication and effort that you put into this - keep it up!
You're so funny and that makes it so enjoyable to watch! Thanks for the great content. Glad i discovered you today :)
Really fun series, Im already addicted!
Small correction for the leve allowance info (12:40):
You get 6 allowances per day! You get 3 every 12 hours.
Excited to see where this goes!
I'm already subbed and liked but have a comment for the algorithm gods I love this series
Geesh. Great work with the series. I'm really enjoying it! I have been actually thinking of doing something like this but with a 4 person group! Subscribed!
Group ironman when??
Thank you for subscribing :^)
@@rathgames I'm all game for the idea of it. Do you have a Discord?
Yeah right here discord.gg/vG7QBGW its also in the desc
binging the series, this rules
genuinely wasn’t sure if a challenge run could be done in ffxiv but this is incredibly interesting
I left out blood aggro since it pretty much never happens but I've never heard of spell aggro. What mobs have that?
My new favorite series.
This series is hardcore and it makes me wish the regular game required players to work harder to progress.
Thank you for proving once and for all that single pull tanks don't even need healers!
I.... didn't know about the aggro thing. Thanks for the knowledge!
My good sir, you are absolutely insane. I respect it.
i saw the first video and thought oh sweet, a cool ffxiv video idea (turned series???) that isn't just some subjective job ranking list, surely this guy is a big name in the community. but less than 2k?? bruh your video quality and effort is worthy of more than 2k lol. lots of potential here, and props to the runescape references and your partner for the cool shots.
Thank you, that really means a lot. Im glad you liked it :'^)
PoTD TOMAHAWK STRAT BAYBEEEEEE
"unlocked WAR"
Me: Oh nice, Raw Intuition will really do work. Oh wait... it's like level 56... that's a ways off. 😂
im a new ff14 player and this series is great
rooting for you!
As someone who used to do UIM, carry onward bud ;-; good luck this is great.
i like your videos, your voice is calming :)
