Harley-Davidson Isn't All About Horsepower

- Harley-Davidson isn't all about horsepower and you can't neglect your torque! If you neglect to address your torque and focus strictly on high end horsepower you're missing out and you'll likely regret your build. Horsepower isn't a bad thing at all, but if you working with a heavy bike, loading it down, maybe even pulling a trailer, your gonna be flat on the bottom put everything up top where you may barely ever ride. Mid range and top end is great on Dyna's and maybe even specific Softails but you you have to be pay attention to what bike you have and what you plan to do with it!

What are your winter build plans for your Harley-Davidson?
I need your ideas.
I would like to put sidecar on my Evo Heritage
Front and rear suspension upgrade
I plan to ride since it’s riding season in Florida lol
2006 Deuce. Last winter was S&S 509 cams, S&S cam plate and tensioners, S&S oil pump, lifters and tappets. Big improvement. V&H straight pipes from the winter before. This bike rides and sounds amazing.
Installed a 1275 kit and 570 cams from Hammer Performance on my Sporty last winter. Very happy with the result. Had i went with 560 and ported heads, i’d have to spend about twice as much. So i decided to spend that money on brake upgrades.
08 UC with a 103 SE pro kit 259 cams 10.5-1 comp, kicks arse low mid and top
My winter RG projects? Install a Woods 77X cam into my 131" motor and have the Dynojet tuner dyno'd
Very good advice 👌 Talking just cams I think woods is the best but they are noisy because of the overlap 😂
Great content. I remember when I bot my 2014 SGS, the tech told me to ride it for a while and watch the tach to see where you ride it. Made sense to me. Of course is was down in the low RPM range. I did a search for cams and their profile. Must have gone thru tons of them. Best i could find at the time is of course was the Woods 222. Never regreted that move. Big torque on fast. I hardly ever get to 5k rpm. Mostly shifting around 4500 when I'm on it. Next gear and I'm off to the races again. LOL Torque move things. HP keeps it moving. Really enjoy your work. Thanks!
On my EVO, I put a low torque cam on one cylinder and a high torque on the other cylinder. Best of both worlds! Vibrates like crazy and sounds really loud, but hey, I got a great stereo setup ( drowns out the noise) !!!!!!!!!!
Evo’s only have one cam
@@w1ck3rham U got me.
Shit!!!😂😂
I would actually like to see what that would do in a twin cam
@@atomicwedgie8176good one🤣
Just had Zippers' 511 cams put in my 1999 Electra-Glide, just upgraded the cam chest.
Great video and great explanation. Thank You!
Thank you! I appreciate your support!
Mine is on the lift, waiting on Spring. Total Cost: $0.00
I changed all my fluids including fork oil. I swapped out brake pads and bled brakes. Adjusted belt tension. Adjusted chain tension on primary. I ran carb dry with fuel stabilizer. I pulled battery and placed on tender. I greased all fittings. Checked charging output on stator. Lubed all my cables. Topped off reservoirs. Tightened loose spokes. Checked pushrod adjustment. Topped off fuel. Cleaned and waxed. Come Spring I reload battery. Fire up bike. Ride...repeat.
Good for you. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Thanks. I have been wondering what cam for my 114 Road Glide. Now I know.
Did a EV 27 in my dyna evo and was awesome for low and mid range torque, now im lookin to upgrade my 2013 FLD this winter.
Nice info Amazing how cams can change up the the V twins!
Put a Sage II on my 2019 SGS used the HD SE Torque cam it pulls and throws me to the back of my seat I love it. GFoo you're totally right don't forget your torque!
What do you think of putting a screamin eagle 498 cam in a 23 m8 fat bob with a 122 stage 3??
80% highway riding 75mph and above. 10% city and 10% 2 up riding.
I have a 2017 road king I got in October for my birthday! All stock except for Nabore hater. I have big sucker, I’m thinking s&s 475 chest kit and an on board tune. Although I’m unsure which tuner I will get it figured out!
Thanks!
Thanks for a good video 👍👍
I’m looking into putting some cams in my 13 streetbob not to sure yet what I’m wanting to go with
Hi great video, I just got a S&S MR103 cam in my 103 SG 2014, very strong mid range but maybe a bit soft on low end. Would TW 222 or 551 be a better choice for low end for Touring bikes?
I'm running the 551c in my 13 RG 103 and I'm very happy. S&S lifters and push rods.
For a touring bike you want the 222, the 555 is lighter on the bottom end so it works better for bikes like the Dyna.
I took my 08 Ultra and upped the motor to a 103, added newer heads so I could install ACRs and had them ported. I run a 10.1:1 compression ratio cause in Canada no everywhere has higher octane gas but 91 is common. Plus with the 103 I could stay with the stock TB as it's plenty to handle the power. My crank runout was almost perfect on both ends but I stayed with chain drive cams and freshened everything up and went with Feuling OE+ camplate and oil pump. Unfortunately given exchange rates being the way they are Woods wasn't in the budget, and I was torn between the 555 & 777, instead I went with Feuling's 574, it's power band worked with my riding rpm range so I don't have to downshift and can roll on the throttle instead. All in all after a good tune, S&S powertune duals, and Tab slip-ons, 118tq 105 hp, reliable numbers and didn't break the bank.
105 HP plus the torque Range man that sounds really good and reliable
@@danwhyte3524 it ended up where I wanted it to be, I'm sure I could've gotten more out of but I went with a Tab Performance medium baffle as I was looking for torque over hp.
What u think about the fueling reaper 525s for my 2004 heriatge sofatil i ride 2 up somtimes
1999 FXDX gear drive set on stock A motor cams, you have to be honest about how you ride and how often to consider a cam swap, I listened to club riders that keep their daily rides stock as possible for reliability, serviceability and cost, I'm happy with my 88 as it is and it'll easily get you a ticket in Australia, if I ever had to do cams I'd go low to mid range for sure with mild lobes.
I love Fridays!!!
Hi 👋, GF, I would love to just get my bike back, I had to sell it in 2019, as I’ve just been scammed by my ex female partner, I’ve sold it so I could move to France, to get out of the way of all the shit, that she has created,
New cam chest an cam bearings and oil pump. For my 05 electra glide twin cam 88.
To make a long story short. 41,000 miles on a 2011 ultra classic...96ci (stage 1), usually ride 1 up. Want either 107 BBK (fuelmoto) or ported and polished OEM heads with tw555. I'm looking for HP as well as torque(mainly torque)......options. Im located in Dallas, Tx.....just fyi...if yall have input on companies, builders, kits....etc in the DFW metro????
Sounds like you've got the setup in mind I would recommend! Big bore is gonna help with the torque and the 555 is about right where you'll want to be!
@@GixxerFoo PERFECT!!!!! Thats what I was thinking....what I'm gonna go with, and thank you for seconding that assumption!!!!! P.S. I know "seconding" is not a word, lol. Much appreciation to you🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Ok ok... this is more like it! Lol
07 electra glide fueling cam, power band 2800 to 6200
What cam are you running from Feuling?
For my Trike, torque is king! I have a Jim's USA 819 cam and other goodies and dyno'd it to 130 pound feet of torque. Even with a 1200 pound trike and my 6'6" tall butt in the saddle, I can beat any stock Harley off the line.
Off the line, just not passed it lol
@@freebehindbars8654 Not so sure about that. I get up to 120+ with the rest of my club brothers just fine. :D
@@W9HJBill just busting your balls. That Power to weight isn’t that impressive being 1ft lb to 9.2 lb. A SG with a 107 is significantly better. I’m sure it does bring that trike to life though.
Looking at doing the woods tw222 cams fueling or plus pump fueling lifters and pushrods and a 2 into 1 pipe and dynojet programmer on my 2012 electraglide with 50,000 miles

I don't think there's been a video you've made that I haven't learned something in some sense!!!! And when it comes to cams you've certainly taught me a lot more than I used to know, then again that's not saying much but I do appreciate what I've learned!!!! Much respect, thank you!!!
21 Roadglide special . Goin S&S OIL PUMP, CAM PLATE , AIR INTAKE , Woods WM8-22XE , spark plugs , then goin on thr dyno for the numbers.
Ive got an EV13 and new lifters to go in my 1987 Evo FLHTC. Big touring bike that we ride 2up in the mountains of western PA and WV. Eventually I'll get either an OD6 or a bigger drive pulley to lower highway rpms and a 3phase stator for the stereo the previous owner put on it.
I have a 1989 flhtc bagger it has 60,000 I have replaced the pistons with 10 1 compression it runs fine do you feel it has to many miles to put In. A EV 27 cam I feel the bike has a little more to offer. On the other hand, I don't want to be rebuilding the Motor
Amen brother! Tourqe cam and head porting made my evo sing.
I put a set of S&S 509 cams in my 2003 Dyna sport tourer. My logic was when I'm on a road trip I load it down with gear. I'm not sure if a 510 would have been better.
or something like the fueling 525. the 509 is a good cam for the otherwise stock motor. im going from a new to me fxdwg that was built with too much compression (ported/milled heads and domed 95" pistions)for the woods tw6h cam, I have reduced the compression and am installing the fueling 525 because I don't care to ride past 5000 rpm anyway.
Either way unless you buy all the different cams and try out all the setups we are always going to wonder if i should have done it differe nt 😅
I recently had S&S 510 cams put in my 2001 T-Sport. It’s just what the shop recommended when I told them I liked to tour. I don’t know the difference between 509’s & 510’s. Could you explain it to me?
Thanks!
@@mitchisaak969 the power band on the 509 is a little lower in the RPM range than the 510.
I found this explanation on the internet-
" The difference is in the timing and duration, even though the lift is close to the same. The 509 cams give the most power from off idle up to 4000 rpm. The 510 cams come on the strongest at 3000 rpm and then tapers off a little after 5500 rpm."
@@jamessouthworth1699, 3,000rpm and up is just what I noticed. This makes perfect sense. Thanks!
I'm pleased I have a Honda VTX 1800R I don't have to alter. There's a glut of good used bikes for sale in the midwest, I'm still seeking a 1-owner Evo Fatboy , preferably owned by a little old lady who only drives it to church on Sunday.
and does burnouts on her way home ,after soothing her conscience at Mass !!!!!!!!
Redshift 576g’s in my 107 already. Love em. I’m just going to be polishing and adding some 12 point SS .
Big Facts Gixxer !
Your gift; investigating, gathering information and thoroughly explaining what you found all things Harley Davidson is commendable.
As others mentioned, I've made changes and upgrades based on your videos and the end result was improved engine performance and/or reduced heat especially the Twin Cam.
I certainly appreciate you.
Johnny Boy
Not planning to do much on either of my bikes. They're tweaked pretty well. Just ride when the weather allows.
Have a 06 superglide just threw in 95 big bore, 525 camchest, and barnett scorpion clutch. It’s a great ride
That's a nice setup right there! That Scorpion clutch make a big difference getting all that to the ground!
I doing up a lowrider (Dyna) with TC88, supposedly already with a big bore kit and cam, but I won't really know until I open it up and measure everything. I want to build it up as a cruiser style, but for touring - and even our main highways have lots of hills and curves here depending where you are. I need it rideable as I am moving home soon, so I've been modelling on simulators. I keep coming back to the Fueling 543 and in fact, when I put in a sim for maximum area under the torque curve the numbers are very close to it. I can't decide until I've sorted the size, but I am going to have the heads rebuilt with slightly larger ports and valves and they will set the chamber size to whatever I want.
543 is a dang solid choice, every aftermarket cam makes power it's just where you want it to come on and fall off.
Zippers Performance Products 95ci muscle kit & hopefully some suspension upgrades!👍🏻😎
Love it! You won't be disappointed this spring! Hey extra points on that suspension! Honestly the big bucks in suspension is arguably money more well spent than in the motor!
cams give mechanics work when the bike breaks down years sooner , gas station makes $100 more a month
Great content . I have a 2023 tri-glide with the 114 . When I'm rolling two up between rider weight and gear, we're packing 550 LB's. What would you suggest for getting me rolling and climbing long steep grades. We want to ride from San Deigo to sturgis , next year. Thank you.
A friend has that bike and did the harley torque cam with the harley tuner and the Dave's fan, dk custom oil filter relocation, and he said it's perfect now and gets good fuel mileage.
Already did my big bore kit 103 tire shredder kit last year only have 6.300 miles on rebuild runs like a ra#$ed ape so basically just keep her clean change oils and ride when I can lol great video ty
That tire shredder kit is no joke on the TC, with a good tune it lives up to the name! Salesman at my local dealer has one in his Road King, it pulls hard!
Driving all winter. 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻👌🤣
I got my hands on a 02 fatboy but I have little information on the upgrades as far as cam size. I was told it has S&S cam in the 600 range. I feel it respond well at 3500 rippers. I normally cruise the back roads at 2500 rpm at 60 mph area. I do like to open it up occasionally but not really interested in fast speeds. What an improvement from the 76 sporty. I'm very happy with my bike. I don't care for wrenchin on my stuff. Thanks for the video !!
Winter is just more riding! 🏍💨🏍👍🏽WestTN
I had an ev13 in my road king.. woods w6 in my heritage. Loved em both!
I learned a lot from ur channel over these past few years. Keep up ur good work man! Always anticipating ur next videos!
I’ve got an evo with a sifton 141 cam, struggling to find out much about it. Do you any insights on it?
Here's some basic cam specs on Sifton, for sure an older cam. I see a lot of them get swapped for Andrews in the Evos since they aren't available anymore. www.vtwinmfg.com/Instructions/10/10-0609.pdf
I put a TW 222 on my DYNA.. love it
It’s time you invest in yourself! Get out of the Sportster lineup and get a bagger. Start a “giveaway” that will fund it, then it will give content in itself.
Want a lot of horse power, get Boss Hog.
Those bikes were absolute insanity, literally riding a V8 engine with a seat on top!
UL 103 twin-cooled running the Feuling 543 Reaper chess kit, V&H power duals, V&H Titan slip-ons, SE heavy breather and tuned with PV2. It has decent torque down low but runs out well through the mids. It tappers off noticeably on the top end. Full disclosure: my only comparison is a Victory Vision106 so my expectations may be way off.
I got roped into a S&S 510c cam and it doesn't have the took its supposed too, my 06 heritage, what do you think about they cam ?
With an 88 and it doesn't hit the way you wanted, 510 isn't a bad cam at all. Where were you looking to find the power, in the low, mid or top end?
@@GixxerFoo in the low but also I bored to 95,, it runs good and its fast but I doesnt seem to have enough tork taking off,, thank you , ,
Oh I picked up a used ev27 and I'll probably put it in my late 90s Softail..
i have always chased a balance to get max fuel mileage. my first twincam, 2007 Dyna street bob. 45mpg, plan to see what i can do to move mileage up to around 60mpg, had too many older bikes mid 50's to low 60mpg, the bad, 1st is already too tall, my 1 mile dirt driveway up mountain is dangerous when wet, bike has to slip clutch to drive slow on it. walking pace...
I’m putting a fuelmoto 129” kit in my 2018 flux this winter. Can hardly wait.
Stock is just fine with me... plenty of stock power. I don't need any more. And, I live in Commiefornia where aftermarket tuners are illegal. Commiefornia does not allow sellers to ship here. God bless those who are looking for more performance :-)

04 electra glide classic. complete engine tear down. Was gear driven runout still a .002. Delkron cam plate and andrews tw 44g cam. Just want more.
Many if not most performance enthusiasts, car or bike, do not consider of how it's going to behave in day to day driving, commuting to/from work, and most of all, sitting in bumper to bumper traffic without loading up, or melting down! You are going to hit snail speed to full stop traffic. And you will hit it on a hot day. High performance air-cooled motors do not like this.
All the ridiculous bagger buyers need convertibles. A motorcycle isn’t a gwady sofa you are making really motorcyclists look bad
I have 2013 road glide with a Stage1 . It has Screamin eagle high flow intake ,rineheart true duals , obsolete Screamin, eagle tuner, buy another license and use my vision tuner that I use on my 07 ultra, I mainly ride on one up. About 275 in lbs , I am wanting to go to like a full-blown stage two , I want to cam that when I’m on the street then get me out of the way and when I’m on the highway I can get out of the way I’m not looking to drag race
Big bikes need big dollars lol
Its does take some money to make those big bikes really scoot down the road!
I rode a 1996 FLHT for years with reduced diameter flywheels ported heads 10 to 1 pistons 50 thou off the heads with a 040 mls gaskets 560 lift cam thunderheader & S & S E carb single fire ignition & I rode that bikeall over the place even got stuck putting 85 octane in it out in north Dakota no torque cams for me !
If you want power and something that’s legitimately fast don’t buy a Harley in the first place.
ridding it, still don't want a car and i don't mind the snow/ cold. I do repairs/ maintenance as it comes up. Here in ohio we only get like two weeks of heavy snow anymore. thanks global warming?
What's your recommendation on a 114 M8 Road Glide
Great advice ❤
Glad it was helpful!
465 or 475 will get you whatever you want out of the 107-114 M8. S&S makes fantastic parts at a reasonable price.
Great video Gixxerfoo! I don't plan on doing anything to my 883 Sportster, but my '95 Evo Electra Glide Custom is another story. I need to go through it top to bottom because I never really did that when I bought it a year ago with 95,000 miles. Just ride it, right?!? I am pulling the fairing off and am going to paint the inner fairing to match the bike and I am going to paint my helmets to match too. I know I need riser bushings in both bikes, and the Evo has a leaky rocker box gasket on the front cylinder too. Might also be a good time to check the push rods, lifters, and cam to see what's in there. I imagine it is all stock. Keep up the great work!
Look at inner cam bearing.
Last winter I put a S&S 509C complete cam chest kit in my '02 Super Glide. Absolutely love. I ain't one of these "Dyna bros" doing stupid stuff on my bike. Can ride in the mountains and find I don't downshift nearly as much as I used to. Did the same kit in a buddies '00 Electra Glide and he couldn't be happier. Great cam for low end torque.
I live in Florida so riding season is not over yet but possibly 🤔 cam 468
They make a HD with a lot of torque? Lololol, how quaint.

Put a lot of hard miles on the ol girl this season. Motors good but she needs some lovin otherwise!
Thankfully I am quite happy with set up on both of my bikes, both have a stage 1 and that works fine for me!
Exhaust, air cleaner and a tune goes a long way! You don't always have to get crazy with cams and big bore kits!

I have a 03 Road King Classic with EFI. In a past video you mentioned a Wood TW-6 cam for this engine. Would this be a good cam fit for my bike? I mostly ride Solo and don't pull a trailer or heavy loads.
I put a set of Woods 555 cams in my 103 Ultra last fall and could not be happier. Put them in at 50K. Huge difference.

That's about right with the 96 inch displacement and stock compression. Honestly that's really good and numbers I would expect on a 103. That 2 into 1 pro pipe makes a huge difference! Are you running an open element air cleaner or stock air box with a K&N filter in it?

I am really partial to the 222 in touring bikes, it's just got power all around the curve without sacrificing anything. The 48H and 527 are great cams but the 222 just seems to out do them everywhere on the power curve.

Nice work Mr,
I just upgraded from a sportster to a 2010 ultra classic with a twin cam 96. What cam would you recommend. I live in WV with a lot of curvy roads but when I hit the gas I wanna know it haha.
Wood 222
Right on Gixxerfoo. Very informative yet straight up ! I learned a lot.
I love to hear that! I hate seeing anyone dive into to upgrades and be disappointed with them!
What would you recommend for a 2009 Harley Rocker C, i prefer the low end power and have been looking at the Fueling HP+ 525Cam Chest kit, i dont think Harley has anything in the SE line. Anything you recommend, i want to do the entire cam chest
I wouldn't mess with the SE stuff since your not under warranty. The Feuling kit would be my pick. I like a matched set personally. The 525 would be about right on that rocker. Depends what power and where you're personally looking to have it delivered at though. Based on the bike, that would be good choice!
