Zhan Zhuang has been the single greatest asset to me as a martial artist.
I practice western boxing, and BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-jitsu).
With my boxing, it's helped me to maintain my balance, move around the ring better and it's even taught me new ways to through punches! It's taught me the importance of using my kinetic chain and obviously increased my cardio.
With my BJJ, it has helped me to strengthen my guard and it gives me a more intuitive sense of moving around and with my opponent. Its also vastly improved my takedown defense, it's hard to explain but I just know where my opponent is going to go and I can prevent them from doing so.
If it weren't for Zhan Zhuang, I would be nowhere near as good as I am now in my respective martial arts.
When I go pro as a boxer and as I acquire new bjj belts, I will be forever grateful for this art. It will forever and always be the foundation of my training.

Wow that's crazy to hear! I did Zhan Zhuang before I started boxing - got up to 8 mins per 8 postures (64 mins), then went into boxing and naturally was able to assert my will in sparring and was able to natural get power from my feet into my hooks. Eventually I stopped doing Zhan Zhuang and after awhile I started lacking that awareness and control of consciousness. Keep it going my man - glad to hear that it wasn't just placebo on my part.

@@donsimons9810 lol... Well, I don't look down on anyone. We all used to laugh at bjj guys in the early 90's because they "dry humped males to win." I've noticed that there are many ways to perform Zhan Zhuang. If you want to develop incredible strength and power in your legs, then try practicing zhan zhaung in the same manner of a Bajiquan player. Do not let the difference of martial styles concern you. The rounded hand posture helps keep your body balanced. The visualization of the whole body is that you are holding the middle dan tian, and expanding it outward to connect the lower and upper dan tians. The mind leads the Qi outward through the six gates on exhalation, and returns the Qi to your lower Dan tian on inhalation.
Keep your feet a little wider than shoulder width. Try to keep your back as straight as a stone tablet, and bend your knees until your thighs are parallel with the ground...If you have never practiced like this before, the first thing you will notice is your posture will naturally slouch forward, and it may be difficult to keep your thighs and knees positioned. The key is your breathing. With every inhalation, reposition your back and drop down slightly. For beginners, you will find every repositioning harder and harder to maintain. Just focus on keeping a calm, long, smooth, continuous breath like the waves of the ocean endlessly receding and surging. When you feel that you can no longer go deeper to reach your desired postion, just keep breathing and relax until you can continue. If you practice this three times a day, along with taijiquan and seated meditation, you will find yourself waking up at 4am to practice and your energy levels will be unparalleled. Please adopt a vegetarian diet at this time, as you can lose your energy due to digestion issues stimulated from having a carnivorous diet. Peace

  • @ItsAllGoodGames

i practice 1 hour morning, 40 minutes before bed.
will slowly build up to 1 hour 30 minute practice in morning,
also doing 30 minute stepping Mocabu practice.
I feel this is fundamental practice to achieve 24/7 proper posture and the correct body feeling "Relaxed but not loose, tense but not stiff"
You must practice until you are always practicing.
Doing too little practice will not be helpful because you spend rest of the day living with too much stress, and you lose some progress.
I find after Zhan Zhuang my body feels much better and mind calmer and i feel peace, i smile and laugh naturally, but i slowly lose feeling over the course of day, i can't keep it and if i try to keep it its only worse because i use too much effort, so i just stay patient and let nature work at its own pace.
I tried a few times doing "slow living" through the day because it seems to make sense if Zhan Zhuang is almost stillness practice, taking things nice and slow the whole day could be good too, but then sometimes i feel like my body is tensing up too much anyway, like im pressing on gas and brake on car pedals at the same time.
Like im forcing myself to slow down instead of allowing myself to slow down naturally.
I think its too artificial to force a certain tempo on life, kind of like doing artificial breathing exercises all day, not natural.
After 1 hours Zhan Zhuang i feel naturally more relaxed and slower, no forcing, but slowly i lose the magical feelings.
This whole Kung Fu is a real test of Character, that is most important i think, to practice correctly and have patience. If you succumb to desire to progress faster than is natural you will only hurt progress.
To accept the natural pace of training is success.
Im doing ZZ for almost 3 years i think, but only this year i did 1 hour every single day, i made lots of progress but also now aware of many tensions in my back and neck that before i didn't know were there.
So i made progress and also understand how much beginner i still am.
Good luck everyone, be patient and enjoy the process :)

Thanks for sharing your experience! Recently I had tried doing the slow moving thing, definitely agree that a natural slowed down pace is better than forced. I kind of base it off my ability to maintain awareness, the moment I slip out, I'm going too fast or processing too much. I notice myself picking up the pace on Twitter or UA-cam and kind of becoming a slave to the content - rather than choosing the content I actually want to consume.

    • @ItsAllGoodGames
      @ItsAllGoodGames 3 роки тому +5

@@matthewsnow6317 Yea true, its hard to notice when you lose control of yourself when you're in the middle of something.
I still played around a bit with slowness, but honestly i find i build up tension no matter what i do, fast or slow, but as soon as i stop completely and do actual zhan zhuang, the effects start happening.
I guess my Kung Fu teacher had the simple correct answer when i asked him how do i just be happy in day to day life, and he just said "smile and enjoy life" LOL.....
Gotta remember Wang Xiangzhai's instruction to not force the results, he said "You can't make the grass grow faster by pulling on it"
According to wang, feelings such as Worry, Impatience, etc are signs of insufficient character, this is why its so important in Kung Fu to cultivate your character.
It's as if "The Way" is actually very simple but to Follow The Way is what's hard. External and internalized distractions keep blowing us off the path.

How did you build up to so much time? I started this practice a few months ago and my arms hurt when I hold them up. I find it very hard to go longer than 10 minutes. Do you have any suggestions that I can implement to improve?

    • @ItsAllGoodGames
      @ItsAllGoodGames 3 роки тому +3

@@saimaahmed4258 took me a long time to build up time, I built up in 5 minute increments and stayed at each increment for a few weeks i think.
You can try to scan your body from top to bottom every once in awhile to consciously let go of any tension if you can.
When you say arms, i presume mostly your shoulders cause that's where everyone feels pain at first from my experience, I suggest moving your shoulders around slightly to try to get the tension out of them, just feel around.
Imagine your arms are just floating on clouds, so your brain eventually gets the hint and relaxes the shoulders.
You can build up your time to 40 minutes using lower arm position, at belly button height, or even by your sides with some spacing in the armpits, this position really doesn't tax the shoulders or arms much at all. Once you do 40 minutes of that then it won't be as painful to raise arms, and maybe you'll be able to get over that hump.
Most important is don't try so hard, you're learning how to achieve natural comfort, think in terms of letting go of what's not necessary, and not so much what you can add on to do it right.

I've been standing for 20 mins a day, and I'm lucky my bro is a taiji master so he corrects me from time to time. When it's your day, you manage to clear your mind and can hear your own heartbeat, the qi comes up at the 15 min mark and circulates. After that you feel so good. Other days, you feel nothing but soreness all over. I'm beginner, will take me some time to reliably replicate the feels.

Also, celibacy means no ejaculation in the Daoist way. Read the book “multi orgasmic man”. That practice can actually greatly enhance your results but most won’t be able to handle the energy that is produced with out succumbing. I was able to do both for a while but ultimately wasn’t disciplined enough. Trial and error. But give celibacy a try and practice diligently and I guarantee you will see the results for yourself.

Hi, I’m interested in joining the on line academy but I’m not sure how to start. If I subscribe, will it be clear after, how I should train, interms of what and how often?
I’ll be a complete beginner in this style. If you can advise me I’d be grateful.

This is not my understanding of zz. This is completely external . The posture is Bao, to embrace. The action of grasp / embrace is the cause of the shape. Instead this teacher creates a structure. The structure is created by the action not the other way. The other way doesn’t function the same. Motion in stillness is the action, Bao

Why open knees, in many Zhan zhuang instructions it’s opposite you imagine squeezing ball between knees.
Opening knees actually anatomically leads to arching the lower back, so the simultaneous instruction to tuck in the tailbone would lead to stiffness…

I think it just means not letting the knees "collapse" inwards, losing the curvature of the sole of the foot.

@@tryingtogoalltheway i see what youre saying, then this is just yet again another instance of misunderstanding of instruction, words need to be chosen carefully.
Then again i dont feel my foot curvature changing all that much whether my knees are closer in or out.
How "collapsed" are we talking about?
