I see they have a great respect for their Grandmaster. I noticed the scrutiny was a reflection of defense versus offense. My contention is that, to be successful, when using martial arts, we must focus on ourselves. Our defense is only as good as we believe it is. He was shown these forms to more adequately establish a beginning and end. These traditions were passed down to represent the protection the monk would provide as the last line of defense or first line of offense. I could see the Grandmaster in the beginning really focusing on his entrance into the void. This was great. I was happy to see how eager the disciple was to correct himself in that moment. His resolve persisted despite his internal struggle.
