    What’s your favourite local junkyard/wrecker/scrap yard ? Jolly’s is nice with its concrete grounds and modern tech to find cars and parts, but also seems a bit sterile and corporate to me. Been visiting pick a part for close to 20 years now, and always visit every couple of months to see if there are any rare sightings of gold.

      Imlachs is always good, lots of variety and not bad prices.

      Jolly’s is good for this as you can go online, find the car and even see what is missing from said car without leaving home.

      Jolly’s is my current goto since they started, been to a bunch of others … there is only so much working on dirt you can do.
      But if they don’t have what you want then you need to go elsewhere and some places now don’t even let you in the yards and will get the parts for you.

    If it doesn’t already have a metal pan on it go to repco and get a trans filter kit as they come with a new metal pan instead of the plastic one 🤟🏻 its a common “stage one” upgrade

    For the gearbox, make yourself an aerodynamic undertray that covers the whole underside of the car (Julian Edgar YT), and also acts as a skid plate for your gearbox if you make it from aluminium

    For a/c you should ring the boys at Bad Obsessions Motorsport and see if they'll make you a Binky unit. Thing's got a/c, heat, blower, and diverter in a unit the size of a large shoebox.

    Here's a bit of a left-field idea, look for Mercedes or Jaguar cars for the HVAC unit. None of those cars were designed to have AC they only got them because the increasing US exports, therefore their "factory" HVAC units look like an aftermarket solution (because they effectively are)

    One thing the bumper scrap metal prices of a couple years ago did was eliminate acres of old cars in alot of areas. A great shame to think of what parts are now gone that could have gone to good use... but I guess, how long do you hold things for? Damned if you do....

      I just assume the yards should still have cars from the 80s there but forget it’s 40 years ago now ! Then I remember going to yards in the early early 2000’s and rarely seeing anything from the 70’s there. I’m Just getting old 😂. Mid 90’s is about the cut off now at even the older type yards like this one. Majority of stock starts at AU and VT with most of the older stuff Korean, jap, euro that has been there for some time.

      Where is imlachs? I’ve never heard of it before. Pick a part was the only worthy one in the north when I was young, and I live 2km from pick a part Kilsyth these days so haven’t needed to venture too far from home anymore. I did go to Jolly’s the other week to get the FG shifter however as they seem to have a better selection of ‘newer’ cars than pick a part.

    For blowers, Falcons and Territory’s have the nicer units but for your size considerations maybe too big

    • @BroomysGarage
      @BroomysGarage  Рік тому +2

      Yeah they are massive. I think I might be able to make that 323 unit work, or also sported an N14 pulsar there that had an entire setup removed that also probably will work.

    • @b_for_brett
      @b_for_brett Рік тому

      N14 units are pretty effective and compact. Similar era Corolla units are really good too

    • @wobblysauce
      @wobblysauce Рік тому

      N14's are nice size wise vs flow output... early 90's Corollas are nice flow also but never had to do a dash job to see size on them.
