Living in Crooklyn helped him a lot also. Not taking nothing from Texas because it’ has tough neighborhoods to but Crooklyn is in a world by itself especially back in the 80’s/90’s. I think living there gave him something that helped him create that gritty jazzy boom bap sound he is known for.

As a beatmaker myself who has sold some mount of beats I find this video inspiring that sometimes when some artists don't use your beats it's because it may not match 100% with their style or what they are looking for exactly that moment, but it doesn't mean that the beat is bad because another great artist might use it
I remake boom few days ago but had to sample another ticking clock sound and used a low octave piano from the electric plug in on the mpc for that other bit that come in after each few bars I used similar drums wasn't dead on but the sample went well with the drums I used I also duplicate the main sample and put a low pass filter on it and used that for the bassline..I like remaking the odd beat for practice I remade shook ones p2 aswell but couldn't get the drums right there's a filtery groove in the drums I couldn't get right ...don't know how to explain it but its like hi hats with a filter on them bouncing in and out.. but anyways reproducing other peoples beats can really make u a better beat maker in general as u find little techniques u would never use and it gives u a new prospective

Premier's beats sound more like NY Hip Hop than most NYC producers. He's considered #1 citywide. Which is crazy because he's from Texas.
