The complexity in this video had me all perplexed as the presenter flexed the mathematical possibilities and artistic options developed by these amazing musicians. Great work all around!
Amazing breakdown. Love mos and premier! So many great elements working together in harmony here!
You are truly genius I couldn’t even begin to start how to replay the “Mathematics” sample how Preemo did…. I love how you recreate so many dope records of my teens to twenties years
One small correction, Charlie Hustle was a nickname of baseball player Pete Rose and the more likely reference for both 40 and Mos.
Thank you! Every time you drop a new video, it’s like you read my mind.🤯
Your Videos Are Insane. I am loving learning about Icon songs I grew up with from You. I grew up in a musical family and my mom has a masters as a Music Teacher on the Organ and I played Clarinet in the school band. Thank you for teaching us about music and iconic songs and the history behind them.
Another awesome breakdown. These are 2 of my favourite artists and are undeniable GOATS, but this track never quite hit the spot for me, it’s like the lyrics and production are competing. I prefer the Mos Dub remix version “In My Math” by Max Tannone.
You’re one of the few UA-camrs I hit like before watching the video coz I know it’s going to be good
This is gonna be a great video I already know
An 18 minute Greats video? What have we done to deserve this! Another awesome video!
You are the GOAT, man. Fantastic job as always! Thank you so much!
Really great videos and quality, appreciate you!
This is a dream channel man thank you so much for these deep dives
WOW...listened to this song and played in my sets hundreds of times but never picked up on the deepness of it. Amazing analytical breakdown!
INSANE breakdown, Rob! 🔥🔥
You're really good at this. 🤜🤛
9 planets faithfully keeping orbit with the probable 10 , choooon !👌
Great job bro . Ur my favorite channel by far
This is my new favourite channel, keep the content coming!
I just wanna say : thanks you man for this brilliant work you do 💯💯👊🏾👊🏾
I finally listened to BoBS in full yesterday after putting it off for like 15 years, and it was a as great as I suspected (and subconsciously, maybe even feared) it’d be. This song is a clear standout ever since I’d seen the tracklib video breaking it down, so it’s serendipitous that this video comes out the same day I listen to the album. Love when cosmic shit lines up like that.
Yooo your content is so well made! Keep up the awesome work🙏🏻
Def uniquely Preem, but I remember feeling like his style was overexposed at that time and that the Millenium was going to be not so busy for him, but his production on Like Water For Chocolate was stellar. At that time in '99 I was looking for Hi-Tek and Dilla tracks more often than anybody.
I got so hyped watching you re create the beat, man that was dope! All I could hear was Mos killin it!
Amazing video man!
That production is fucking ridiculous mam.
I already loved this song and the beat but wow I had no idea it was that deep and connected.
Love these kinds of analyses! This is amazing!
(imo) ‘Charlie Hustle’ referred to Pete Rose ⚾️, who’s “#1” in a “number” of Baseball statistical categories. Also got into some hot water for Gambling, which, too, involves complex Mathematics 🤯
I was looking specifically for this comment. I figured the reference had nothing to do with E40 😂 Respect to 40, but yeah..
@@StLaRok nah he is talking about Jimmy from Better Call Saul, who is called Charlie Hustle few times in the show. Mos is so genius he can predict future tv shows (future shock)
I love watching when people misunderstand lyrics LoL. Thanks for pointing it out for everyone. I can't understand why he would think Mos was referring to E40 haha
I was thinking the same thing.
Hey, u just got another subscriber off this video. Like how thorough ur research is and UR point of view.
Excellent video (as always) on 2 of the best to ever do it 🖤🖤🖤
My favorite hip hop song of all time. The balance of all factors in this song is and always will be undefeated.
I remember an old article in Complex several years ago. DJ Premier said Scarface of all people wanted that "Mathematics" track for his album "The Last Of A Dying Breed".
Yes! Sort of a deleted scene - In the complex article linked in the description Premier tells that story. The beat was already made at that point and it sounds like he didn't seriously entertain the idea of giving it away. Good thing too cuz Mathematics is 🔥
I just did a search for best of DJ Premier, the playlist is 321 songs long
I think Preemo was just looking for some dope lyrical samples that talk about math and numbers.
Man. Been looking for a channel like this for so long❤️
Love the time, science and art you put into these uncoverings
Great as always man! It is such a gem, your channel. You should do one about Guru at some point. Hugely influential. And my top notch fav of him "Medicine (Mental Relaxation) - Guru feat. Ini Kamoze". Keep up the good work!!!
That’s beautiful. Thank you
Tell me you can over think without telling me you can overthink. LOVE THIS CHANNEL
These videos are amazing. you are the best youtuber right now
The first time I heard that first verse my brain melted, became the first hip-hop song I learnt off by heart. Great video to learn some more about where the samples come from and it makes more sense why it's so sweet to listen to over and over again. timeless lyrics and beats
Black on both sides is a hip hop classic. Very underrated album.
Thanks for this man. SOOOOOOOO GOOD!
Not even through the video and I’m like and subscribed. Outstanding work dissecting this legendary track
You are a boss. This video is amazing. Love your channel bro!
Brilliant video! 👏
One of the top rap albums of all time. Mos never touched a mic he didnt bless.
Long live Gangstarr 🙏
Guru and preemo changed my life
