This recipe is in our Vol. 3 Cookbook
    Hershey’s Syrup Cake
    1 1/2 CUPS OF SUGAR
    1 1/2 STICKS OF MARGARINE
    6 LARGE EGGS
    24 OZ. HERSHEY'S CHOCOLATE SYRUP
    1 1/2 CUPS OF SELF-RISING FLOUR
    1 TSP. VANILLA EXTRACT
Cream sugar and butter together, then add eggs one at a time. Add chocolate syrup, then add flour 1/2 cup at a time. Add vanilla and mix for 2 minutes on medium speed.
Place batter in a greased and floured 13x9 sheet cake pan and bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, reduce heat to 325 degrees and continue baking until a toothpick comes out clean. (Takes mine about 40-45 minutes total).
    Mama’s Stovetop Fudge Icing
    3 CUPS SUGAR
    1 STICK SALTED BUTTER
    3 HEAPING TBSP. COCOA
    1/4 CUP PEANUT BUTTER
    1 CUP EVAPORATED MILK
    1 TSP. VANILLA EXTRACT
1.5 CUPS PARCHED PEANUTS (OR PECANS)
Combine sugar & cocoa, mix well, set aside. Melt butter on medium/low heat in a medium saucepan. Add sugar/cocoa mixture & milk, mix well. Keep on low heat until mixture simmers.
Careful with Sugar Granules: Wash utensils to prevent transfer of sugar crystals into fudge.
Boiling Fudge: Bring to a slow simmer (until it looks as if most of the sugar has melted). Cover & turn up to high heat. Set a timer for 3 minutes. Check with a candy thermometer. Cook to a soft ball stage, around 240 degrees.
Beating Fudge: Pour candy into mixing bowl. Do not scrape sides of saucepan (to reduce chance of sugar crystals getting into mix), mix on high, add vanilla. Beat until frosting starts to thicken, then add nuts and turn the mixer off.

OH MY......this was my mother in laws Sunday dessert cake after a roast dinner for all the family gathering. And her potluck choice for church fairs. Yep it’s a sweet one BUT so worth it and can’t thank you enough for allowing me those precious memories. Homemade and old recipes like this one needs to be around and tried FOREVER. ❤️❤️

Look absolutely delicious. Add a ice cold glass of milk to wash it down, now that is comfort food. And, if I happen to have some vanilla ice cream, take a piece of your cake, stir it into a huge bowl of vanilla ice cream, mix it all together, and get a big ol' spoon. Yum. Adding your cake recipe to the must have list.

I have had a good laugh at several of your video mishaps, such as things falling into your batter. One thing you do that is a very good idea is to break your eggs into a separate bowl before adding into the batter. One time I was breaking eggs directly into the batter when my egg fell into it. The beaters immediately beat the eggshell into it, and I had to toss it and start over!

Have made this cake for special family occasions and you are absolutely right it is delicious and definitely needs good vanilla ice cream to go with it. You are one of the best online self video cooks I have come across. Most of them talk way too much and although they may demonstrate good recipes the constant chatter about stuff other than the recipe drives me crazy. Thanks for a great recipe and watching you in the kitchen was delightful...

My mother-in-law's recipe for family favorite brownies was similar but used a can of syrup which can't find now. Made in a large cookie sheet pan. Frosting very much like this.

I have a version of this recipe that uses cocoa powder in the frosting instead of choc chips, which I use the dark chocolate, and the batter is put into two 8” round pans. I also use the Hershey’s Simply 5 syrup, which is the same as the old cans, made with actual sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup such as the one shown. Alternating the addition of syrup and flour, being sure to end with the flour, improves the consistency and eliminates those hard edges that form during baking. It’s much better to have two (or more!) layers of this cake than one. Recently I’ve started adding crushed dark chocolate Oreos between the layers, then decorating the top with 6-7 whole Oreos. Adding that crunch in the middle really improves the flavor! It’s everyone’s favorite. Oh- the original amount of flour gives this cake a different texture as well. I tend to like it better with only 1/2 cup to 1 cup of flour.

Was DYING for chocolate and all I could see was chocolate syrup in my fridge. Thought to self... I wonder if there’s a recipe for a baked chocolate desert using syrup. And here I am almost brought to my knees by how good this looks! Mmmmm!!!😋

I like Ina Garten's chocolate cake. It has brewed coffee to enhance the chocolate flavour and is moist beyond reason. I always cut back the sugar, though.
