i dont know why this came up in my recommended but this lady just made my day isn't she just the sweetest
Sooooo sweet
Me, too and she is!! I'm not the usual "describer" type but I did immediatly at her channel 🤗
"This woman" is actually Jenny Jones who was the host of The Jenny Jones Show talk show in 1991-2003! She's also a comedian! 🙂
@@TwistedTeasters Oh my gosh! I have been watching her baking videos and knew she looked familiar, but thanks for the heads up! She makes wonderful recipes :)
She use to have her own talk show years ago.
What's better than how easy this recipe looks, is how excited she gets about her own cake and frosting!! Such a nice personality
I noticed that too and love her for this reason ...
I stumbled upon her and she is indeed lovely. Now on lockdown, I think no better way to spend my time than try this delicious cake!
Check out her bread recipes!!!
How cool. 👍👍👍👍

I come from Greece and it's the first time that i listened a recipe so clearly, this lady use simple ingredients that we can find easy, i just felt like this lady is my aunt, congratulations !!!!!!!🙂
I'm about 8 years late to the Jenny Can Cook party, but I made this cake today and it was so easy and delicious. I have a loaf of your bread in the oven now. Glad I found your channel even if it took a while. 😀
She's amazing 👏 😍 ❤️ 💖 💕 ♥️ 👏 😍 😊

I just made this cake. I tried a lot of “ quick chocolate cake” recipes and this is by far the best. So moist and rich. I baked mine in am 11 x 14 pan that I greased with butter and coated with flour. I didn’t do the parchment paper thing. Loved it.
Did you leave it in the pan or reversed and took it out? I’m asking because I wonder how this recipe will hold in a 9 x 13 size with frosting etc for a birthday party?
did you guys all used baking soda?
@@2026love have to use baking soda ... but instead of using i teaspoon .. of baking soda ...i used 1 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda ....it worked well ....i also used olive oil ....because its healthier ... used lemon instead of vinegar ...u dont need to use parchment paper if u oil and flour your cakepans before u put the batter in ...made it in my convection toaster oven ...just remember when u use convection oven ...it runs hotter than the normal oven ...so i turn down the temperature a bit lower .by about 25 degrees ..and cooks in around 25 minutes ..in my convection toaster oven.. ..

Being currently out of work, and money tight, I am so glad you posted this as at least I have the ingredients to make this. Looks really good.
Sorry to hear, I’m sure things will get better. This cake is amazing by the way!!
Good luck with finding work friend. This is a money saver.
My family has made this cake for years. It's the most moist cake, & SO good. I'm always bugging my Mom to make it for me.
I’m with ya on that plus I love to simplify and this is great
Best wishes👍🏻🙏🏻
Watched this video... got up and made it. I used coconut oil (liquid) and the white wine vinegar instead of the lemon juice. Great recipe. Only change is that the frosting was way too sweet so anyone who doesn't like super sweet frosting maybe start with 1/2 c powdered sugar. I also used coconut milk for the frosting and coconut oil (solid) to keep this cake 100% vegan, Delish.
There is an avocado chocolate frosting that I believe you would absolutely love. I am not a vegan but I make this frosting because my husband has cancer and we are trying to eliminate sugar from our diets, but he loves chocolate so I did research on making sweets that will satisfy my husband the sugar/chocolate junkie. The frosting tastes really good and "no" you cannot taste the avocado at all. Find the recipe at PALEO SPIRIT - just type in Avocado chocolate frosting. I also make a Mejool Date chocolate cake to go with it. This is not a decadent cake to be sure, but it is so satisfying for chocolate lovers that are trying to cut back on proteins and refined sugars.
Kelly Fredrickson THANKS SO MUCH KELLY!🙌 Really appreciate your post as I have to be careful with sugar. Blessings to you💞💌💕

Shannon Leta hi great idea.. Can I ask how much vinegar is it a straight substitute for the lemon juice 1tablespoon if vinegar? Thanks x
VEGAN FOLKS: when eating the vegan way, you're missing essential vitamins and minerals. Check it out, folks!
My Life has changed since I found you Jenny. I'm officially Your Number One Fan I now make an Easy Chocolate Cake ever other day so I don't run out. I'm alone but that's good so no one fusses at me or sneaks my chocolate cake. Today at the grocery store I had a bit of a wake up call. First, I had to go to a box in the garage for my 'just in case bigger jeans' as I've gained a few extra pounds. As I was checking out & reviewing and bagging my purchases, I made a little discovery. Everything I purchased was directly related to your recipes. The alarming part was it didn't concern me that I had 10 lbs of Flour & 5 lbs of white sugar, powdered sugar, jam, cream cheese, cocoa for baking, lemons, butter & vanilla. I started laughing as it dawned on how very happy I was! I only wish I'd found you before the soon to be X husband & broken neck. You've given me permission to be happy. I love to cook now as I enjoy the process from shopping, making new recipe cards to the cooking & enjoying the results. I have gained some weight but I was very, very underweight as I'd been through some hard times. I'm mending with a big smile & a size bigger (only the one size though)!! Thank you so much Jenny! You've made me smile & feel good about things. Our Grandmothers were right when they said to eat & we'd feel better. I just had to tell you how thankful I am.🙏❤️
Thank you for your note. I'm glad you're liking my recipes but also try some of my healthy meals too.

What happened to Jenny? I absolutely love her videos. My 14 year old daughter has started baking at home. She really enjoys it, so I showed her this channel. She was impressed, which is no small feat!
She's 78 years old now. I'm not sure what condition she's in but it's possible she may not have the health for maintaining her UA-cam channel anymore.
Or perhaps she may just want to relax and enjoy her older years. ❤
She is retired and no longer interested in doing the videos. She might have a cookbook?
I love this recipe I am 11 and I made this all by myself

My Wife made this for my Birthday and it was so good and the frosting was perfect as it wasn't too sweet or greasy tasting. This was the absolute best cake I've ever had! Thank You Jenny for sharing this recipe.
I made it for my partner earlier this year. He said it's the best chocolate cake he's ever eaten. This, and Jenny's "Lemon Brownies" are now my favourite cake recipes of all time.
The best cake I have ever made! Hands down. The frosting is so creamy, silky and decadent. Talk about easy. I've had to make it twice this week due to family demand. Also, we are on a limited fixed income and to have this cake that the whole family loves that saves us money is a blessing. Thank you for sharing your recipes with us. Blessings to you!
JENNY!!! it is Sept.2018, I made this unbelievable chocolate cake this afternoon...I will NEVER attempt another cake recipe after this one. Your amazing cake is light but moist, chocolately, I could have used more spray in the pan, but what the heck, we'll dig it out. Didnt have lemon juice, used apple cider vinegar & instant coffee instead of plain water. The entire recipe took less than 5 minutes to put together, BY HAND in ONE BOWL. Made a light frosting like yours, its just the most delicious cake. I want to try and figure out how to make a lemon version. Thank you so much

Just in general, I love the way she would so smoothly and succinctly give a tip and the reasoning behind it.

I've been making this cake for over 45 years, "Mix-in-the-Pan Jiffy Cake", for clients who are allergic to eggs, milk, etc., or have food preferences such as being vegan. My recipe calls for white vinegar, but lemon juice would also work in the same way. I mix the ingredients right in an 'ungreased' cake pan w/ a fork, if it will be left in the pan for serving. For diabetic clients, I use Swerve White Granulated Sugar Replacement & for gluten-free clients, I use gluten-free flour. For a chocolate cake, I use 1 cup cold coffee in place of the water, to give the chocolate flavor a boost. I also make this cake without cocoa for other flavors - for a lemon cake use lemon extract, water, & lemon zest or lemonade & lemon zest; for an orange cake use orange extract, water, & orange zest or orange juice and orange zest: banana extract w/ a little yellow food color; strawberry extract w/ a little pink food color; etc. - any flavor works. I bake all my cakes at 300 & test the internal temp w/ an instant-read thermometer for doneness, like you'd test a steak. Baking cakes at 300 degrees also gives the edges more time to bake higher, ending up w/ a flat cake. When you can smell a cake, it's almost done, & time to test. Once the internal temp reaches 212 degrees, the liquids are boiling & evaporating, so the cake will be dry & over baked. I pull all my cakes when they test at 208 degrees since they will bake out of the oven for a couple more minutes. If leaving this cake in the pan, press saran on its surface while it's still warm, about 30 minutes out of the oven. If removing it from the pan (you can make 2 layers for a layer cake) put parchment in the bottom of the pan & spray the sides of the pan. Place saran & a cookie sheet on top of the cake, flip all over, lift off the pan, wrap airtight in the saran, place back in the pan upside down, & leave on the counter at room temp for a day to 'season'. Cakes that are made a day ahead of time will be easier to work with, w/ fewer crumbs & crumbling.
Hi i would like to use coffee.. But wont 1 cup be more strong? And how much vinegar to use.. Same as she uses lemon juice measurement? Can you gimme ur exact recipe? And also i dont want to skio cocoa powder
What flour do you use to make this gluten free? I have tried Almond flour twice and both times the cake (and muffins) fell flat and was a big pile of mush in the pan :(
@@ekhiaayu It would be fine.Just make the coffee to your liking-I drink very strong espresso so I use that but it's all personal choice.
@@ChristinaMac Just buy an all purpose GF flour. Using only almond flour or only rice flour etc doesn't work well, it needs to be a blend of a variety.
Hi Bunny, I haven't heard of Swerve. What is the substitution for sugar. I made the cake and love it! Still enjoying it, but would love to make without sugar.
I found this recipe when I was maybe 10 years old in one of my childhood magazines, been making it ever since; I'm 81. It was called "Crazy Cake." It was/ is good for me as I have egg and milk allergies. I have seen it called "Poor Man's Cake" and War-Time cake." It really gets me how things recycle, rename it and people think it is new.

Yesss, I have a vegan friend, but usually, the things I make for a birthday and stuff aren't vegan, and when I do look up vegan cakes, they usually require things like apple sauce or ground flaxseed meal, whatever that is, and those are things I don't have lying around and would be a waste if I just have to use it once. This is great, thank you! Now I can finally bake things for him too haha
Flaxseed meal is just ground Flax seeds. It works brilliantly in the cakes and stuff I make. No cholesterol either! :)
Aether Idol yeah but I don’t have flax seeds in my house...
@@andydu723 www.vivahealth.org.uk/resources/vegan-egg-replacers-wallchart some options you may have in your house. You can also buy a specific egg replacement powder, I've got one from Ogran and I pack cost about $4Au but is equivalent to 66 eggs!
Aether Idol I think it went straight over your head. What she is saying is that this is a normal recipe with normal ingredients that most people will have in their house already, it’s really easy and simple and takes little effort, has no weird ingredients and looks amazing
@@EnterShikari01 if you read the link, most people would have some of the suggested alternatives in their house. Like a banana. I just made the Easy Chocolate Cake! I didn't have lemon so I used the vinegar. It was delicious. So yummy! I'm snow bound & I had nothing here remotely interesting or sweet. I took it as a challenge & my Lord was I in for a treat. It's so good. I made the glaze which was wonderful. I've eaten 2 large pieces already. An hour ago I hadn't even started. You're a genius & the cooking guru for sure. It's a great cake and just as good as any chocolate cake I've ever eaten. Thank you so very much Jenny, you really can cook. Next time, when I have more powdered sugar I'll make your icing! I'm going to get year & make your yeast rolls. I grew up in the South & never saw this recipe. . We worked ourselves to death kneading to get the perfect rolls. I'm sorry my Nana & Mama aren't here to eat your rolls because I know they would've love them. You've changed my life. I've had a broken neck and lots of surgery and nerve damage so if I wanted yeast rolls, I need a bakery, which are always sold out at holidays, or I buy the frozen ones & thaw them out, which are expensive and not as good. Now, I can make my own again. Thank you so much. This means a great deal to me. You're helping correct a problem and keep a bad memory away. 🙏❤️

I've been making this cake for 50 years. It's called the No No cake. As in no eggs, no butter. I always use white vinegar, not lemon juice. And adding toasted, chopped walnuts makes for a great crunch to the cake. Good on you Jenny!
I made this too it was amazing! But I was wondering if I could make it with less sugar or a sugar substitute and some oats for children.
@@ldnh.6300 Try using Splenda. It can be used cup for cup like regular sugar, but it will produce a bit of the artificial aftertaste.
As for the oats, I've never tried that. But you can replace a half cup of the all purpose flour with almond flour. The cake will be a bit heavier though. Happy baking!
I made this cake yesterday. It was so easy & quick to mix! The cake is rich & chocolaty. We crumbled it into parfait glasses with chocolate pudding & Redi-Whip for one of the best chocolate desserts I've had in a long time. Thank you so much for this eggless recipe!
Use vegan butter and vegan milk for the frosting and it's gonna be an amazing vegan cake.

That would be great. Cause there are a lot of things I can't eat cause I have endometriosis.
She also mentioned you didn't even have to use butter amd it could just be a glaze!! So you could just substitute the milk for nut or soy milk or just water!
That's what I would use as an alternative too. This is a great idea for a vegan cake version.

@@scifiaudious2 yes vinegar. For years my family has made what is called either Stir Crazy Cake or Cowboy Cake. About the only difference is our recipe calls for cold coffee in the cake mix and the topping is cinnamon and sugar which crackles when baked. My whole family loves it so much that they request it for birthdays, with the crackled top or iced like this one. Coffee in the icing is good too. Best with instant coffee so as to not liquefy the frosting.
I made this cake couple nights ago. Was so easy and delish!! Definitely a keeper 🥰
My batter turned out really runny.. Not sure where I went wrong..
As a child I had allergies but I could eat this cake. Despite outgrowing allergies this remains a moist yummy favorite. Frosting was out too but a dusting a powdered sugar topped it off!💕🤗
I love this recipe. I just changed to dairy free butter and hazelnut milk for the frosting. Tasted fab! 🤗 Thank you for this.
I love the simplicity of Jenny's recipe. I confess that I'd just make the frosting only, since for me that's always the best part.
The best chocolate cake, so fudgy, delicious Jenny! I'll be making a double layered one tomorrow for my daughters birthday as she requested it! We all love it. Thank you so much. Love your crusty bread and rolls also. Love your sense of humor. 💞
She's an absolute delight. And the recipes work! I love them too

This recipe is absolutely delicious! Made it today and it will become my favorite cake to make from now on. I love to make your bread and rolls which are also so delicious! Love your videos and your humor! Thanks for all your tips and recipes!
This is so calming and sweet. It's like when I would cook with my mom or my great-grandma when I was a kid. Very nostalgic. Thank you so much for posting!!!
The food really looks good and nice
How are you doing?
Thank you 🙏 sooo much.
I made it double, it’s so high & fancy & delicious. The sugar I replaced with coconut flower sugar& only 1/2 cup. You are amazing 🤩
Jenny. I love your cooking. I am vegan/plant based, so can translate a lot of them and this one is perfect. As you said, leave out the butter and add more (plant) milk. Thanks for the tip.
Almost the same as the old wartime mayonnaise cake.....those are always so good and moist too...bet this one is too....
You love her cooking? I love her humour!
Loved the perfect measurements and clear instructions and the fine details
The cake turned out simply 👌 awesome. Thanks for the simple recipe
I loved this entire video from beginning to (very cute) end! I also love how colorful everything is in her kitchen background along with all the different colors of the baking utensils and bowls. She must be a happy person :)
I tried it... When I saw the video I had doubted the frosting but it came out to be super tasty I ❤️the frosting so now I make only the frosting and I love it!!!
I love this cake! My 15 yr old made it for my birthday and it was amazing! Thank you!
Sweet! Happy birthday J C 🎈
Jenny, I love watching you cook. I’ve been cooking and baking since I was a young child; and never tire of watching you teach me new recipes!! thank you!!
Thanks a lot for this recipe! I made this cake with the frosting according to all the guidelines shared by you and it turned really great! My boyfriend said it’s his favourite brownie cake!
This recipe always works for me!!!! Everybody shall try it the results shock you.... the cakes sponge is so moist and the icing works perfect for cinnamon rolls even!!!! I have even made cupcakes using this recipe!!!🤤🤤🤤👍🏻👍🏻🤍🤍
HAHA that last part with the video recording was so cute!
Okay, so, I made this tonight. Being that it's late and I wanted something sweet, but didn't feel like driving to the store, (I also didn't have any eggs, or much milk.) I looked up recipes and came across this one. I had a fair share of scepticism, but I can't believe how yummy this came out. Alright, it isn't going to win any awards, but it's perfect for a quick cake in a pinch. Thank you for posting. ❤
I wasn't expecting much from this recipe, but i actually got compliments on it!
Here's a tip if you make this cake. Use 1/4 of pretty warm water to dissolve the cocoa powder in, it releases the oils in the cocoa powder and gives a deeper taste. It's called blooming. Then add 3/4 of cool water making total amount 1 cup as called for in recipe.
does it really work
Thank you, Hope. I will definitely follow your tip.
@@helloxx4094 yeah, watch Adam Ragusea’s video “Do you have to “bloom” cocoa powder?”
I made this as a sort of birthday cake for me for the weekend. I wasn't sure, to me a cake has a filling and a topping, but boy was I wrong. This is the chocolate cake I've been looking for my entire life. It's rich, moist, the topping isn't too sweet, and it's utterly delicious. It would work untopped as a pudding with cream or custard, could be double-layered as a special cake, or served just as you do it and it would never disappoint. My partner says it's best chocolate cake I've ever made. I agree. It's also the simplest by a very long way. Wonderful. xx
Hi Jenny: I'm watching this during Corona Virus isolation and it's the perfect cake because it doesn't require eggs. I have 5 eggs in fridge that I need to optimize because I can't go to grocery store for probably a month. Be safe everyone
Sagisli Did you know you can freeze eggs? Great UA-cam videos out there showing you how to slightly scramble, put in a muffin tin, freeze and then remove & place into a freezer bag.
@@Paula-rh5kl Hi Paula, Thank you so much for the tip. I wasn't aware that eggs could be frozen. I will look for the video. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and be well :)
Sagisli there is no need for eggs anyway. Cool recipe
I have simple recipe for banana bread but requires 2 eggs.
Stay safe everyone 🙏
Thanks, Jenny, for your channel! I have always been intimidated to bake, but with your easy to follow recipes and fun instructions it takes away all the anxiety. You have made me love baking, and I can’t thank you enough. Best wishes to you and your family during this crazy time.
Thank you for this recipe -- I love that the cake takes just simple ingredients and is vegan! :) The frosting can be easily made vegan as well with vegan margarine and plant milk. I will be trying this soon.
I made this today and it turned out so good!! It was chocolatey, moist and absolutley amazing especially since the recipe didnt call for any milk or dairy products. Basically vegan! Literally 10/10!
Jenny, I just made these In cupcakes. 350 degrees for 10 minutes then 325 degrees for 8 minutes, I added a raspeberry filling in the middle, I had dark chocalte special dark chocolate cocoa powder, and it worked fantastic. I also used a dark tin cupcake pan.I'm going to let them cool, and use your icing mix. on top I'm adding herseys chocolate, pieces cut up, no I'll shave the chocalete, I don't have to much, it made 18 cupcakes, with the raspberry filling, they look really good. Can't wait for them to cool and I ice them. Tomorrow morning I'll bring them downstairs for the apartment complex to enjoy. Thanks Jenny. Your a great cook to. Miss Jane Kovaly
I used to skip the bus in the morning to sneak-watch your show when I was in middle school. Here I am in my mid 30s learning how to bake a chocolate cake from you. I absolutely love this :) much love :)
When I make a cake at home I just follow all the instructions but I always replace the water with milk bc that’s what my mom taught me and it makes the cake taste better
Michelle Rosalee if you’ve done this recipe before: does the milk curdle with the lemon juice added?
I do that too, and for the same reason 😄. These days I'm loving hemp milk.
Try Almond milk; bumps up any cake recipe.
No problem with curdling at all.
Hello how did your cake turn out using milk?
I’ve been a JJ fan since I was a child and my grandma watched her talk show! I absolutely love Jenny and all her recipes! I’ve tried many and this one is a big favorite along with the meat loaf!
ONG I TRIED THIS AND IT WAS AMAZING!!!!! Me and my sisters full on demolished the whole cake before my mum could walk through the kitchen 😂❤️❤️ they said it was the best cake I made so far 😂😂😂
Hi! I just wanted to say that I made this easy cake yesterday...I needed a sweet fix for the family for after dinner but I didn't have any eggs and little butter so I searched and found this recipe. I made it; it turned out so delicious and moist. Couple of little twists though; I used an 8x8 pan as I didn't have a 9" round pan and I had to use lemon juice from the bottle as I had no fresh lemons on hand and it still turned out great. The frosting was super easy and tasted fabulous. Overall I loved this little cake and will make it again in the near future. Thanks Jenny ~ Melissa ~
We called this wacky cake and definitely use vinegar instead of lemon juice . Super moist cake that we have for all family birthdays , yummy!
Janet Gillespie yep my sister has been making wacky cake with homemade fudge frosting forever 😜💦
i can't just have a one layer cake. its not right. I can probably use this for cupcakes...

What does adding vinegar or lemon juice do for th cake? What's the purpose?
@@VideoGrabBag Vinegar and baking soda combined make the cake rise nicely.
Thanks Jenny , very economical and delicious .I increased the quantity , baked the cakes in the microwave cutting it into squares . Added the frosting , which is a winner
