What a fantastic use of them. I recently found a old stained pillowcase that my grandmother had embroidered. The embroidery is intact, I may copy your idea and use it as part of the label on a quilt for family.
"your handwriting is loved by the people you love" what a beautiful thought! I have trouble with my labels mostly b/c I don't like my handwriting. Minute 8:18 of this video has cured me of my handwriting issues, and will make me enjoy "my" handwritten labels. I have kept letters from my Grandma and Mom, who have passed away, and love to look and touch their handwriting. I never gave much thought to the quilt label being so personal. Thank you. (also good job Natalie)
I made quilts for all my grandchildren last Christmas and put a picture of each of us together and a poem on the label. I created it on the computer and printed it on iron on transfer paper on white fabric.
Natalie, you do such a great job of explaining things in an easy to understand manner. You're getting more comfortable with the camera and it shows in your beautiful smile! Thanks so much and I look forward to learning more!
I love these ideas, and Natalie you have such a nice, fun-yet-soothing manner. I thoroughly enjoy all of the videos, so please, please keep up the good work!
Natalie this is such an important part of finishing the quilt in my opinion. I wish that the quilts my grandmothers made had their name and date hand written on them somewhere. Even if it's a quilt for me I still put my name and date on the back. My mil recently gave me my husband's baby quilt with no tag. Fortunately she gave me the information and I dated it the year my husband was born. I love your style of teaching and explaining things so well. I hope that there are many more Final Stitch Episodes! Thanks so much. ps I like your voice and Natalie's!
i had my kids date anything they made, i do it too, it's fun to see the date. but oddly i made quilts for my grandkids and didn't label them, new to quilting i didn't think i could do that i guess
Dear Natalie, You are so affirming! Yous positive attitude and caring shine through in what you do. I truly appreciate your kind guidance as we quilters make our way through the intricate patterns and loose threads of life. Anne Thomas
Perfect timing! Just quilting my second quilt (a wall hanging; the first was just a scrap experiment that I'm using as a sewing machine pad). Binding and labeling is next, and I was dithering about how on earth to bind it. You covered everything I need to know! Thank you so much. Your videos are just what this 78 yr old beginner needs to do it right the first time! - Fran
Thank you Natalie for this tutorial. You have inspired me to put labels on my quilts. You are a wonderful teacher. Please keep bringing us more tutorials.
Great video and comments. I press a piece of freezer paper behind the label fabric to stabilize it some while writing. This really helps when using fine point pens. For longer messages, I mark lines on the freezer paper to help keep writing lines straight. Then remove the freezer paper before securing label to quilt.
Natalie, this is so helpful because I am labeling my very first quilt! Thank you so much! I’ve watched and learned so much by watching MSQC videos when the Pandemic began. I have four more quilt tops at the longarmer! I’m so excited and proud of myself. We do need to love ourselves and each other more. 💕💕💕💕💕
I really enjoy this series. I confess, I missed Jake on Live, but I adore the way Liz laughs and the great way she interacts with you all. I also love the zoom ins on the sewing machine/needle area to get a bird's eye view of the process.
I am really enjoying these videos with Natalie. Thank you for taking the time to create videos to answer how to questions from quilters. I love the conversation in the background, it makes me feel like I am there with you. Your voice is lovely Natalie.
I love these tutorials from Natalie. She is very informative and gives all the details that you may need. I would love to see a video on choosing fabric colors that are not in a precut to make a quilt. Something about what colors will stand out in the foreground and what colors stay in the background. Thanks guys....see you soon, and keep quilting
This came at the perfect time. I always label my quilts but as I'm attaching binding today to a wall hanging I debated whether or not to add a label. Was just pulling out fabric to cut for a folded triangle label when your video popped up. As I'm watching you decided to keep the label very simple...wall hanging name, person gifting it to, Christmas 2020 and my name. Easy peasy! I sew my binding on the back and then over to the front so it's very easy to sew the label into the corner as I'm attaching the binding. Thank you Natalie. Have really been enjoying this series.
You seem to be reading my mind this is a step I had forgotten and will now finish off the ones I had ready to gift, I am thoroughly enjoying these tutorials great work and enjoy seeing your confidence grow Natalie
Natalie, your series is a great addition to the MSQ tutorials. I relate well to your way of doing things. I sew my labels into the corner when I sew on the binding, but I need to try out the folded triangle - good idea! I look forward to more videos from you.
Love your new videos. thank you for going over all the basics that we really don't think much about. I have learned so much from all of you at Missouri Star. You are all awesome.
I use my Word program to work on label. I bring in a picture of the recipient and type all the information below that. I size the label. I print the label out on the fabric made for ink jet printers. Then I either put fusiable on the back and fuse to quilt and stitch it down. Or I print the same way and only stitch the label down. My nieces and nephews love their picture on there quilts.
@@cosia5072 I’ve been doing this for 13 years. The first one everyone loved it. It was for my young niece. Her older brother saw the picture label and wanted one on his quilt. So he chose the picture and I put it on. He loved it.
I like to use two pieces of fabric, sew right sides and turn,... I also love my machine that can stitch the lettering for me. Then I hand stitch all around all 4 edges to apply. I like the corner idea! Thanks! A laundry marker is much better than a regular marker. It lasts longer when washed a lot.
Oh, this was so great to watch. I love that people want to document what they made, who they made it for and what occasion if there was one. I think it is so important to document your creativity so going forward future generations will know what you did and why. I love making quilts and sometimes there is no special reason other than I liked the pattern and wanted the challenge to do something different. These also need to be documented. Great video! Thanks!
Thank you so much. I have been making quilts for years and never labeled one until now. I was so unsure. Now i will have fun with no stress. Again thank you.
If you have a hard time writing on the fabric, try putting masking tape or freezer paper on the back side to stop any stretching. Thanks for all the great info. I love watching your show.
Thanks Natalie. I have not been labeling my quilts and wish that I had. So good to see your tips and ideas on how to go back and label quilts that are done and then begin labeling as I make them going forward. I have to say that I really love that little triangle in the corner caught in the binding. I think that is going to be my go to label.
Great information. I was going to embroider my message on the quilt I just finished for my granddaughter. I was dreading it because I'm not really that good at embroidering but thanks to your video I've decided to use a Sharpie instead. It will save me lots of grief. Thanks again!
Thanks Natalie!! I absolutely loved ❤️ this episode of your Great tutorials on The Final Stitch!!! I've always wondered if I should put labels on my quilts, you have given me confidence to do it!! Thanks!!
I loved this episode. It had a lot of information we needed. We need to keep and record for our loved ones down the road. I love everything about your company. From tutorials, demos, and of course, your fabric. I love that I can re-watch every tutorial many times. It is so appreciated!
This was so lovely! Your handwriting is gorgeous. Thank you for the video. I've made a lot of quilts, but most have no label because they were just for me. It is nice to know you can write anything you want on that label. There are NO RULES! Hugs, Joy
Your program on labeling quilts could not have come at a better time! I have never been satisfied with how I label quilts. I didn’t want to purchase a fancy already premade, fill in the blank label. And I also didn’t know the best way or a way that I liked, to attach the label. Until I saw your program! Thank you for your common sense beautiful technique for attaching a label in the corner. Even though I had already bound my quilt, I picked out the stitches for the corner of the binding, attached the label that I had already written on, re-stitched the corner of the binding, and whipstitched the loose end to the quilt. Oh I am finally satisfied! Thanks again Missouri star quilt company and Natalie!
Thank you Natalie for this simple way to attach labels. Someone else posted how they didn't like their handwriting well I don't like mine, you gave me a different way to look at it, now I label all my quilts.
I’ve used a very fine sandpaper under my fabric when using the Micron pens. It keeps the point of the pen from sticking and pulling/stretching the fabric =)
I think it’s good to use your own handwriting as the person you’re making it for may well know and prefer that, but I have also popped it into my embroidery machine and done it quickly that way.
Just the very thing I needed - thanks so much, Natalie!! I love the variety of methods you presented because I have some finished quilts to label and some in-progress quilts to label. And now I know how!
I have a subscription to Sweetwaters label club where they are personalized to your own name (you can also buy them individually or by sheet). However - I iron them on and then sign or write an additional message with the micro pen or Sharpie so it has a cute label and a personalization. I agree where at about minute 9:30 Natalie says your handwriting is *your handwriting* even if it’s shaky, messy, etc. It’s a masterpiece and a piece of art made with love and will have that history to it. I also like the iron in nature of a label where you can put it on the front or back or make it part of the design. I have seen others comments about printing their own labels and personalizing, it’s amazing how many options you have with such a little but important thing like a label.
love the triangle idea for a label! So easy. I am bad about taking the time to do the label, but I am one that keeps a quilt journal with pictures of completed projects. The triangle method will be an easy way to remember to do a label even if it is just with my name and a date.
I use wonder under and fasten the label down then add the binding to the front. That allows me to hold the label in place while attaching the binding. I works great.
Super helpful! I'm about to bind a quilt made from African fabrics purchased by my dear friend's beloved mother who passed away. I've never put a label on any of my quilts before, but this seemed like the moment to change that.
Just rewatched your video episode 6, I've always typed my labels & printed on printer paper, then sew it on. At 80 my fingers don't work very well & difficult to hold on the needle...I so much enjoyed this video for other ways to do this...Thank you! You are a blessing.
Hi Natalie, thanks so much for this video, I have just purchased some quilt labels and was unsure what to write. It’s great to think items I’ve made will be enjoyed after I’m gone! I am labelling some advent calendars for the family this Christmas time. Keep safe and quilt on 🥰
I once made a quilt as a special gift, but I realized too late that forgot the label. So I picked out the stitches far enough to open up my binding, and then I chose contrasting thread and a nice small font on my machine to stitch the information on the part of the binding that would so be on the back of the quilt when I turned the binding to the back. It turned out so nice! I typically use a triangle for my labels, though.
I was just thinking I might try using fmq to include the label in the quilting itself and I came across this comment...even better! I think I will try this on my fil's quilt ❣️
I keep a quilt journal on my computer, with a picture and bit of information about each quilt. However, I just recently started labeling my quilts, I had never bothered before. Your video was really helpful as I haven't decided on the method I like best, and it gave me some good suggestions, especially about going back and labeling some already finished quilts.
Very good tips Natalie, I usually do them this way as well, my friend Dolores, taught me to put them in the binding, believe it or not I used to sew them in all around...LOL

I made a wedding quilt last year and attached 2 labels. One corner had the to and from, etc and the second one had care instructions. I also attached photo fabric framed to look like a photo of the save the date engagement photo card of the couple and wedding invitation. The bride is a graphic design artist and it really personalized the quilt. Great video of the techniques. I have seen some quilts with embroidered binding. Beyond my skills at this time.
Thanks for all the good info! I've been making crumb blocks and putting together lap quilts to donate to a local nursing home for the residents during this time of isolation . I was wondering about labeling and you answered my questions. Thanks again.
Thank you so much Natalie! I started quilting during the pandemic and thought my only option was printed labels online ( very limiting!). But you have simplified this for me in an easy and fun way! Love all your tutorials!!
My first quilts have no label but since I am giving to family now, I make a label. I never thought writing it in my own hand would make a difference. Now I may change from embroidering a label to a hand written one. Thanks for the tips.
Another option is to print your label on fabric and then attach. I don’t like my own handwriting (surprise surprise) so I print using an ink-jet printer and freezer paper. I enjoyed this so much. The time went so quickly. Thank you! 😊💖🌸🌷
Just found this! Thank you so much, Natalie! I've only added a label to a couple of my quilts but you made this look so easy, I'll be adding them to all of my quilts from now on!
I do label most of my quilts. Thank you for showing a way to sew them with the binding and the encouragement to hand write on them. I will use this on the quilt I am working on.
Thank you, Natalie, for these wonderful AND helpful videos. I have a question: is it possible to see closer views on the overhead shots? Sometimes you demo something from that high overhead shot or from the side, neither one really showing me what to do. If I am the only one with this issue, no problem because I always learn things from you that help me be a better quilter!
This was so timely for me! I've been experimenting with a few labels, but I love the ideas you just gave, especially the folded square. Thank you so much, Natalie. I am really enjoying The Final Stitch episodes!
I gift so many baby quilts & lap quilts & I never put labels. I think I will from now on. Thanks for this video. I really didn't know what's best to write with. I thought maybe paint pens for fabric. This makes it easier; )))
I came across this video as I was getting ready to label a a quilt for a baby gift. I inherited my mother’s projects and some quilt tops were there. I want to complete the quilts and label them with her name as the hand quilter and finished by me and gift them to my kids:)
I like to use vintage handkerchiefs for my labels. So many of them have lovely embroidery on them that I can include.
What a great idea -:))
What a fantastic use of them. I recently found a old stained pillowcase that my grandmother had embroidered. The embroidery is intact, I may copy your idea and use it as part of the label on a quilt for family.

Old doilies too!!

I also attached photo fabric framed to look like a photo of the save the date engagement photo card of the couple and wedding invitation. The bride is a graphic design artist and it really personalized the quilt.
Great video of the techniques. I have seen some quilts with embroidered binding. Beyond my skills at this time.
I really enjoy watching you in the tutorials Natalie, love to see more of you and your projects and how you create a pattern or design
I love listening to Natalie!!
Excellent video! I got an answer to all of the questions I had about diy quilt labels....THANK YOU!!!
Another great episode. I hadn't seen the triangle in the corner before! Thanks
Natalie is a rock star. I love her videos.
Thanks Natalie, that was interesting. I always embroider my labels, using colours to match the front of the quilt. Cheers from Melbourne
Thanks for all the good info! I've been making crumb blocks and putting together lap quilts to donate to a local nursing home for the residents during this time of isolation . I was wondering about labeling and you answered my questions. Thanks again.
I sew appreciate your clear, calm manner of teaching! Thanks a lot! 😉
I live you, Natalie you are so easy to watch. Thank you.
I am new to quilting and there is soooo much to learn, I love it. Thank you for this video and greetings from the Netherlands
I love your style and great information!! I’e been quilting for over 45 years and I still find new ideas on your videos =)
I like the camera looking directly at the machine/piece of work when you sew. That is a great angle and added benefit.
I really love the camera angle on the sewing machine. For a beginning quilter it is really helpful and I haven’t see anyone else do it.
I do label most of my quilts. Thank you for showing a way to sew them with the binding and the encouragement to hand write on them. I will use this on the quilt I am working on.
Very clear instructions....thank you! BTW......L O V E. your back wall....actually, your entire sewing space!
Another fantastic episode, Natalie! Thanks, and please keep them coming! ❤️
Great idea, Natalie, for your triangle corner label! Thank you!
Thank You, Natalie! I've never labeled my projects, but now I have so many ideas!!!
Thank you for giving me easier ideas for backs!
