Happy Friday...what a week. There are lot of ways to make binding. But before I talk about them, we need to know the basics. If you haven't made yourself a 3-in-1 tool yet, you'll save yourself a lot of headache if you do. Enjoy.
Lol I get so stressed and my neck disappears, I've been clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth...and I laugh and grab a tea, take a break and a breath, and remind myself that it's my first quilt for one of our kiddos! They love it already and it'll be warm usable and washable lol !
What is a quilter's knot? How do I sew the binding down on the back? Do I just sew along the edge (parallel to the edge) or should I sew X's, or perpendicular? What keeps the binding down the best?
Just made mine. Looking forward to using it. Your video made so much sense. I especially like the reason for not pressing your binding in half. I have done that and wondered why I struggled so. I have been quilting for 26years. Love your tips and your channel. Thanks Karen
Hands down, BEST binding video on the internet, or in the entire world for that matter! And this is why I stick with you Karen, to just get it done, and done right!!! Thank you for all you do!
Ok....First let me just say....Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I am so glad you did this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Karen THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok...now I have my tea and I am going to watch....i am so excited!!!!!!! Binding is MY nemesis!!!!!!
You're telling me that for a whole 3 quilts I could've just TUCKED THE BINDING?! Thank you for showing this, as well as why a walking foot is so important! I can't wait to make my next quilt!
I wanted you to know that this is the ONLY video I could wrap my brain around. I have tried and tried to learn this method, but I don't see things the way others do. It always looks backwards to me. So, tonight, I stopped and worked frame-by-frame and it WORKED. OMG I am beyond relieved. I'm working on a special gift and just had to have it perfect. THANK YOU from the bottom of my still learning heart.
Hello Karen. Just to let you know that I am already watching you from my home sweet home. New hip on monday afternoon and back home on wednesday morning. The operation went well now it's healing and hand quilting time. Thanks for your kind thoughts and Love from France !
I've played and backed up and replayed this video to finish binding my first quilt! THANK YOU so much for good, clear instructions! And I made myself a 3-in-1 tool before I even started binding -- it was so useful.
Hello Karen from Sydney, Australia. It’s been a beautiful day here and it’s 2pm. Just finished watching another great video. I prefer your second method of joining at the end. Keep well Karen and keep your videos coming💐
You we're a life saver, so to speak, as your reminder about quilt label stopped me forgetting for a third time. This time, I will not be reverse stitching a corner to insert my label. Brilliant tutorial, thank you😀
Thank you for this video! I love the first option where you tucked the tail in to the starting piece. I have been struggling with the fiddly way and get a knot in my stomach every time I have to cut the binding lol. I am a new pandemic quilter and have learned everything from UA-cam and generous teachers like you. You have made it possible for me to turn isolation into beauty and creativity. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Welp, I'm back sharing your video again! I'm SO glad you have links to the companion videos, including to your tool, too!! I think she'll be greatly helped IF she follows suggestions. (You know about leading horses... 🤣😆😂😆🤣) I shouldn't say that. We all find our own knack, but I've been helped a LOT by your hacks!
I wish I could put another 'Like' on this video for every time I use it to bind another quilt! Thank you again, my motto is 'Make a Start'. Getting even a little bit done gives me some forward momentum and encouragement when I am stuck. Thanks to you for this 'frame of mind'.
Karen, you are simply wonderful! I'm just finishing my first quilt and every time I doubt myself, I watch one of your videos and feel encouraged again. Thank you!
Thank you for this video! No one ever explained how important that 1/4 inch in the corners is when you are attaching the binding. Made a world of difference😍
Thank you for saying do not press your binding in half . I have not been pressing mine for years and teaching this for years too...... it definitely gives you less hassles. thank you for another great video.
You have an engineer’s mind!!!! You have such a clear mindset in figuring out an improved method of quilting techniques! I love your method of binding for the first example. Tucking in the tail is just BRILLIANT!!! Thank you for sharing your expertise.
It’s not that I couldn’t bind...it’s that it was my best guess on how to do it. It was inconsistent; sometimes great and sometimes a disaster. A cozy disaster. Thanks for sharing your method Karen!
i’m so excited for you! i’m a newbie and started quilting due to covid. I’m a retired elementary school teacher, and i only sub now, (well, not anymore due to covid). i needed a new hobby to keep me from having a anxiety attacks and quilting has turned to my spiritual yoga! i have a little domestic Janome i got for mother’s day and i’m learning to free arm quilt so as to put my quilts together. You have taught me so much and i always look forward to your videos. I’m so glad you are still doing your video and going strong! i would love to learn from you 1:1, but due to covid and the fact i live in California makes it a bit challenging! ❤️❤️ can’t wait to see more of your long arm!
Dear Karen, I love how you explain all the steps so clearly and concisely. I've been following you since you started your channel (albeit with a different UA-cam account that I cannot access…so I am now following you with another account name!) Like many new quilters, I’ve watched so many videos on how to finish quilts, but you style really suits me. You are wonderful! All the information I need in just 13 minutes. Amazing! ALL your videos are an incredible source of information. you are also a great interviewer. I LOVE all quilting (and all other crafts’ ) channels. Everybody has something interesting and valuable to share. But I have to say that your channel is my n.1 favourite. Thank you for being here for us. Love from a Londoner living in Japan.
I just have to say that I am SO thrilled to have found your videos. I am extremely grateful for them- you are an excellent teacher and as a beginner, I have learned so many new tips & techniques. I get turned off by so many other tutorial videos because they also include too much irrelevant babbling! Your videos are straight to the point & have precise, clear instructions. Keep them coming!!
Blown away once again! Don't press in half...what?!! Life changing! 😊 Thank you Karen! ❤ For getting beautifully sharp corners, when the needle is 1/4" shy of a corner, i stop with the needle down, then turn and stitch off the quilt at a 45 degree angle towards the corner. Works great!
Of course I boofed all 4 corners (before I found your video)!! I'm tired; surely it will be surmountable in the morning. Thank you for sharing a great video in a calming voice! 💕
Aloha from across the pond ........ have been binge watching for the last week. Have 200+ lap quilts to make before next Christmas for our kupuna of the Big Island. It’s a self imposed goal but am super excited to complete it. Your tips and tricks have been very helpful - thank you so very much. 🌴🌺🌴
First and foremost, thank you!! Since I started using your binding method, my bindings are now more attractive and my binding corners are now sharp and precise. Not pressing the binding strip is the way to go! That’s how I ha s been finishing my quilts since I saw your video. Thanks ever so much. Truly appreciated.

I love to watch your video's. You explain so well and make it easy to under stand. I do not reply a lot because I watch on my Television instead of my pc. Thank you for making these great video's. It really helps.
Hello, Beautiful you're a life saver and you've encouraged, taught , and let me the real beginner quilter know it's okay I love all your videos I've just have to get with it. Blessings & Grace be with you and your family
I have watched so many videos and wasted so much time trying to get my binding ends to connect on the angle. (And wasted so much time picking out the seam and adding fabric because I cut it wrong, etc. etc. etc. ) Finally, a video that actually ZOOMS IN and explains the process step by step. Thank you so much. I'm going to bookmark this on my phone so that it will be there to guide me.
I am a first time quilter. Never made a quilt before. I just created a small five square by six square quilt. I used this video for the binding. It came out "pretty good" (in other words, imperfect) but I'm proud to have finished my first one. THANK YOU!! You helped!
I love your 3-in-1 tool idea because I've struggled getting my quilt binding corners to look perfect. Your hints are simple and straightforward-thank you

And I never knew you could start sewing at the edge when beginning again at the corner. Old dog here is gonna try some new tricks! Thank you, Karen!!!
Thank you, finally found a great instructor. I never struggled with bindings and for some reason I been having a hard time. You made it so easy for me. WOW
