Did you check the oil for metal shavings? A spun bearing would cause the knocking.

Rebuild time. That’s a classic thrown rod/blown motor. You need to do motor and block rebuild

was the old oil in any way sludgy or brown instead of black? could be a hint for a leaky head gasket. I do hope its something inexpensive to fix!
