When a car manufacturer tests an engine on the dyno for regular use on the street, they run it at wide open throttle nonstop for a few days, But with the power mods some of these engines have they will only last for short pulls on the dyno, or maybe the drag strip. It's where the engine runs most efficient. You usually want to be at least at the red line or above it, otherwise you risk running inefficiently. You should try it, the difference is remarkable!

@@fin3662 You do that very briefly. Engines can't survive being redlined for long and doing it even a small bit is hard wearing on the engine. You don't need to hold it at max RPM, once you've reached it, you have the data. Any longer is just showing off and asking the engine to fail. There's also little airflow through the engine. They need to breathe, stationary cars overheat insanely quickly when ragged.
If you stand within 10 feet of a car on a dyno then you're pretty soft in the head, I've seen cars pivot off during a pre OBD emissions test at a much lower RPM.
I love these videos because you can hear the exact moment they push the engine too far then watch them keep going to catastrophic failure. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Thanks for the entertainment! Also, dear tuning shops: If you aren't going to spend the money for an in-ground dyno, you shouldn't be dyno-ing cars. Dynos are generally safe, they have power limits and they're done for a pretty short amount of time (start at a high gear, floor it till it redlines, and you've done a dyno run). It's just that some idiots like to do it for too long and end up breaking their cars, or they just didn't strap the car properly.

I had my Daihatsu Terios on a dyno and it made 73 bhp. It feels much less than that when I drive it so was quite pleased with the result.

@@fin3662 a quick google search will explain everything about dyno tuning but basically these idiots are blowing their engines because they aren’t doing the test properly and are over revving their engines and the car can’t handle the high rpms

@@fin3662 You do that very briefly. Engines can't survive being redlined for long and doing it even a small bit is hard wearing on the engine. You don't need to hold it at max RPM, once you've reached it, you have the data. Any longer is just showing off and asking the engine to fail.
There's also little airflow through the engine. They need to breathe, stationary cars overheat insanely quickly when ragged.
I'm getting my car tuned this month and this does not help my confidence right now lol

If you stand within 10 feet of a car on a dyno then you're pretty soft in the head, I've seen cars pivot off during a pre OBD emissions test at a much lower RPM.

u dont shift on a dyno, u want to go in the gear nearest to 1:1 ratio and look at peak power (located at top rpm)

It AMAZES me that so many people can casually hang around such potentially dangerous situations.
Dynos are generally safe, they have power limits and they're done for a pretty short amount of time (start at a high gear, floor it till it redlines, and you've done a dyno run). It's just that some idiots like to do it for too long and end up breaking their cars, or they just didn't strap the car properly.
Chinese rice is #2. It wouldn't matter if it put out 5,000 hp.
